Can somebody give me an idea for a new router? My old router (Linksys WGR614 V10), keeps randomly shutting off every 10 minutes after about 5:00 PM.

Eh, I've had so many problems with routers in the past year I could write a small troubleshooting manual. We've had a similar problem where something in the house was interfering with the router and shutting it off temporarily every 15 minutes or so, and we found out that the interference went away when we powered down the entire house and ran the router off of a battery. One of the suggestions we came up with follows, and I'll direct it towards you: If you have cordless phones in the house, it would be good to check those, but since the interference happens after a certain time it can't be just your phones. If you have neighbors close by, see if they have cordless phones and like to call people after 5 pm. If you unplug all of your phones and you notice a difference, get phones that use a different frequency.

And it could also be the wireless adapter in the wireless device you're using. the wifi is consistent for everything but this 10 year old laptop I have at my house, and I'm 99% sure it's on the receiving end of the communications. Try reinstalling the network adapter drivers, and if that fails, reinstall the motherboard drivers.

But I use a wired connection off the back of the router. It can broadcast wifi, but we only do that if someone wants to use the Toshiba laptop that's about 3 years old and runs FPS like sludge.

I had that same problem. A few months after that started happening to the router, it died. Permanently. Never would turn on again.
