Ipt: The Video Game: Episode 3 - The Day The Data Died
IT'S THE ULTIMATE INTRODUCTION!
Seeing as you guys won't get the jokes, I think I might as well share with you a new project I'm undertaking for my HSC. A point-and-click adventure game, "IPT: The Video Game: Episode III - The Day the Data Died" is my 'major' work for IPT: The Subject (Information Processing and Technology). Basically, the project is simply about us listing everything we know about IPT. Most of my classmates are doing simple websites, but I decided to think outside the...net...and do something totally awesome.
The basic aim of the project is the following:
'Syllabus Outcomes'
- H2.1 analyses and describes a system in terms of the information processes involved
- H2.2 develops and explains solutions for an identified need which address all of the information processes
- H3.1 evaluates and discusses the effect of information systems on the individual, society and the environment
- H3.2 demonstrates and explains ethical practice in the use of information systems, technologies and processes
- H5.1 justifies the selection and use of appropriate resources and tools to effectively develop and manage projects
- H5.2 assesses the ethical implications of selecting and using specific resources and tools, recommends and justifies the choices H6.1 analyses situations, identifies needs, proposes and then develops solutions
- H6.2 selects, justifies and applies methodical approaches to planning, designing or implementing solutions
- H7.1 implements and explains effective management techniques
- H7.2 uses methods to thoroughly document the development of individual and team projects.

Students are to design, build and implement an information system. The chosen information system implemented in your project work is to be drawn from one of the following:
- a database information system
- a communication system
- a transaction processing system
- a multimedia system.
Furthermore, he submission of the project will require the following:
- Project Plan
- Details of time frame
- Details of subprojects
- Identify specific jobs that need to be undertaken.
- [*]Identification of the following:
[*]Design tool files developed for the solution or choose appropriate tools to demonstrate the design process:
- Participants o Information technology
- Data / information
[*]Working Solution
- Eg context diagrams
- Data flow diagrams
- Decision trees etc
[*]Working source files/code/scripts for the project operational within the context of the project.
[*]A report detailing:
- Description of the modules that you worked on, including:
the module specifications
initial drawings/diagrams of the your project
screen shots of your final project as seen by the user
user evaluation of the finished project
- [*]Forms/Pages/Code written/developed by you incorporating all internal documentation. The internal documentation should clearly indicate the function of each section of the code and (if applicable) the reason for performing this task. If a section of the solution has been written/developed by other people (information/solutions sections from other sources), indicate your part in the development of that section of the project.
[*]A discussion on the processes/methods used by you to develop your project. Include how you determined the user’s requirements and how you fitted this into the client’s specifications, and how effectively this was achieved.
[*]A process diary (journal/log) showing day-to-day progress of your role in the project development. Include copies of your code at significant development points. That is, should show the development of the project over a period of time. Also include in this diary, details about instructions given/received, meeting, talks with users, and other significant events that had a bearing on the development.
[*]A bibliography of all information/sites/resources/graphics/sound etc used in the project.

So, the game will start out with a fateful day that will be remembered forever in the hearts of all my fellow classmates; the Day the Data Died. On this fateful day, Sir risked his heroic life to save my fellow classmate from electrocution underneath the switch machine. On this day, the internet went out just as we saved our work. On this fateful day, Sir deleted the video mockumentary I made with my classmates, leading to the idea that it was all a conspiracy.
The game shows these fateful events, and then has the player play as me, on a quest to find all the data to complete the introduction, which only one person has completed before (Sir). The player will need to complete in a variety of mini-games which will challenge your skills, all in the name of collecting data. After collecting the data, the player must take the final introductory quiz. After that, they will learn of the conspiracy, and must fight Sir to continue on their ultimate quest to finish the IPT course.
I'll be uploading content as I go along to show you progress, and after marking, I will upload the special RRU Edition of the game here for all you to play. RRU Edition will include a bonus -10 hours of content in which the player is trapped in the Rock Raiders United realm. They must fight their way out of the RRU office, collecting data on modding LegoRR and other LEGO games. In the process, they must form an alliance with key RRU members, help play pranks, and after completing another quiz, they must defeat the ultimate boss...the mutilated, merged forms of Cyrem and all the mods! Prepare the banhammer!
Peace Out. In the meantime, Lest We Forget the Data.
