Tutorial: Add a Permanent Custom Map Slot

Installing custom maps to play can be annoying because you have to alter original level's CFG to point to the new level. There is a way to add new levels which has been known for a while, but never really explained much. What this tutorial will guide you through is adding a permanent custom map slot to LRR where you can just slap in CFG code and run the game and not worry about having to change it back after to the original code. This level always remains unlocked and it does not effect your save games. I will also give you some extra files to make it display nicely on your level screen. I've used a worm hole, as you can see below: Setup First, we will need to set up the level link so that it will display. Open your LEGO.CFG file and in the block Lego* > Main there is a property called "StartLevel" with the value "Levels::Level01". Change the value to " Levels::CustomLevel". Lastly, go down to the Levels block. Above the "Tutorial01" sub-block paste in this: CustomLevel { ; CUSTOM CONFIG BELOW ; NEVER REMOVE THE BELOW PROPERTIES! MenuBMP InterfaceFrontEndCustomHi.bmp,InterfaceFrontEndCustom.bmp,InterfaceFrontEndCustomGrey.bmp FrontEndX 72 FrontEndY 2 NextLevel Levels::Tutorial01 LevelLinks Levels::Tutorial01 } This is pretty much a place holder until you put a level CFG in. The game will run fine like this. The properties under " ; NEVER REMOVE THE BELOW PROPERTIES!" Ensure that it will always show the wormhole correctly and that the levels stay linked. If you would like the wormhole, Then download these images and put them in your "InterfaceFrontEnd" folder. Thats it! The one and only problem is that the spoken level names when you hover are displaced by 1 level, but you don't really care about this I would recommend for the sake of ease and consistency that modders creating levels package their level in the level's own folder, so that it does not actually replace default levels.

    Cyrem, did you write this?

I'm not seeing the contradictory. How many kids are reverse engineering file formats, researching, modding games and programming? Not very many. Also these are OLD LEGO games, the majority of 'kids' are looking for the latest LEGO games, not the oldest ones which they didn't grow up with.

No I didn't, that's default, BZPower says the same too and their forum is more attractive to younger ones then this forum. However I wrote in the registration terms that you cannot register if you are under 13, if you are, you get banned. The reason is because of child protection stuff that I don't want to deal with. This is not a generic LEGO site, in-fact I'm saddened you think that. This is a modding community that is focused on LEGO games. The subjects and technical stuff we talk about is directed towards people older than 12. Yes we have LEGO forums here, but they are not designed to attract under 13's, because LEGO is not a kids toy... LEGO is a creative outlet for any age group.

How is that in any way, shape or form related to the subject matter?

    ROBOFORCE + UFO Alien Red

I retextured the 'Alpha Dragonis' to represent the Shell FLYER, and the 'Explorien' to represent a ROBOFORCE figure. (Fixed legs + Helmet) Download: http://www.filedropper.com/uforedroboforceredv2

    Mobile Suit Taurus

First off, the title is a Gundam reference, though I do not watch Gundam (but I really should) and this does not have anything to do with the show itself. Just wanted tomake that clear. Anyway, This is for you, McJobless. I said I'd do a biped,so I did a biped. And here it... ...My God, what have I done? This is just, just... Well anyway, I *shudder* I wanted to go with an astrological motif, (I like that kind of thing) and I started with Taurus because it seemed the simplest to do, and I plan to make more based on the other signs, but don't hold me to it, cause I might not finish. But this! I am scared of this. It seriously creeps me out. Whatever. I tried to make it as articulate as possible, but upon testing it's not as articulate as I though I had mode it. As far as I'm concerned, this, along with all my other builds are simply prototypes. The final build will hopefully be more articulate. And less creepy. Also the horns need fixing. I just can not figure out how to do decent-looking bullhorns.

    The New SimCity

Methinks I'll stick with SimCity 2000. No DRM, and those pixel graphics have a certain charm.

    Steamtank WIP

I've been getting increasingly interested in the steampunk fandom/genre lately, and as I'm now starting to build MOCs to bring to Brick Fiesta 2013, I thought I'd try my hand at building a steampunk tank of sorts. It's still a bit of a WIP, and I'll probably be tweaking it before the con - psst, some constructive criticism would be nice here. Sorry for the cruddy pics, I don't exactly have a prime spot for taking photos.

    Your Best Racers Gameplay Tips

Thanks for all the tips guys! I haven't read the latest batch yet, but I will soon. I don't think I'll more, as I'm sure I'll get enough from what you have already suggested. In the mean time, if you want to keep sharing tips. go ahead! JSYK, when I add the tips into the script, I sometimes make minor edits to them. You know, add/remove a word or two, grammar correction, so the tip can be clearly understood. I'm not changing so much that you didn't even say it, but little minor stuff. I wanted to tell you so you don't get upset when you see your tip and it is not written exactly the same way you wrote it.

    The New SimCity

Don't buy it, and warn others not to buy it. Don' ever support the DRM efforts of these developers, because you'll notice that they speak in money, and if over-protection costs them huge amount of profit, they'll got one of two ways: Decide the franchise is stale and at fault and can it (Not likely considering sales of previous titles) Decide the DRM is at fault and lower it somewhat

Broken Apples: A Showcase of Apple's "Finest"

I wouldn't limit myself to pictures of smashed products... because you can only say "oh broken glass" an amount of times before it gets old. I'd expand it to product goofs such as malfunctions, crash screens, errors etc...

Why not just post pictures of regular Apple products? But seriously, sounds good, I'd definitely like to see this.
