Solution to discoloration
Cirevam and 3 others reacted to RobExplorien for a topic
NOTE: All that will follow is a/one of the solution/solutions to the discoloration of white LEGO bricks. Please read careful, I cannot be held responsible for any mistakes you make with the process of whitening the bricks. Only use this method for whitening WHITE bricks, not other colors, nor white bricks with printings or stickers! The information that follows is partially based on personal experience. You may know them: discolored white bricks. I recently discovered this method to get the white color of those bricks back. To show you what I'm talking about, see the images in the spoiler. Each brick is lit equally, the discoloration is real. The left blick is the discolored one, the right brick can be the result of this method. In order to retrieve the white color of these discolored bricks, you can do the following. For this method you'll need: Hydrogen peroxide (preferred concentration is about 3%) Distilled water (to thin the hydrogen peroxide, if concentration is too high) Glass jar with lid (or other material which the hydrogen peroxide won't affect) Discolored white bricks The principle of this method is based on a redox reaction, just a little point of information. Be careful, hydrogen peroxide (abbreviated to hp) is corrosive (at 3% concentration not very corrosive)! You do not need a very high concentration for this method, a 3% concentration is fine for whitening the bricks. You might also want to buy distilled water, to thin the hp (distilled water is rather preferred for thinning than tap water). Distilled water is not only for thinning, but also for spending as little hp for the whitening proces, for it is not very cheap. You'll need the glass jar to put the solution (hydrogen peroxide mixed with distilled water) in. For thinning, it depends on the concentration of the hp. It also depends on how much hp you are willing to use for each whitening. Use the following formula to calculate how much distilled water is necessary to get a certain concentration: volume distilled water necessary = ((former concentration hp * volume added hp) / new concentration) - volume added hp For example; you have a hp concentration of 30%, and you'd like to thin this concentration with distilled water to 3%. You use 50mL of hp, and for this thinning you need: volume distilled water necessary = ((30% * 50mL) / 3%) - 50mL = 450mL distilled water Now to add the bricks. The substance is not corrosive towards the bricks. Let's say we use the solution explained in the example (50mL hp mixed with 450mL distilled water). Pour this solution (carefully) into the jar. Then, add the white discolored bricks to the solution (make sure the bricks are submerged once). Put the glass jar on a window-sill, or anywhere else where light can lit the bricks. Leave the bricks in the solution for about 3 to 7 days (personal experience). After the process of whitening, clean the bricks with water (and soap). Do not throw away the solution, it can be used a second time for whitening other discolored bricks (not sure about a third time use). Below follows an image of the effective effect of this method. Again, the bricks are both lit equally (left is before, right is after). This information pretty much summarizes all that I liked to tell. I hope I explained you well how to work with the solution, and the whole method of whitening discolored white bricks.4 points -

The Algorithm
ShadowDraikana reacted to Yourself for a topic
Map Name: The Algorithm Back Story: We have established the Rock Raider HQ in a safe cavern rich in ore, but containing no Energy Crystals. Scanners aboard the LMS Explorer show a cavern exceptionally rich in Crystals North of the HQ; however, there seems to be no direct path to it. Find a way to reach it, and then collect fifty energy crystals. We know of the presence of Monsters in surrounding caverns; be on your guard, for if they manage to steal an Energy Crystal, it could well make the goal inachievable. Map Objective: Collect 50 Crystals Difficulty: Medium/Hard Download link: Download / Download PatchMan Version Instructions: Put the Level03 folder in the downloaded zip file in the Rock Raiders/Data/Levels/GameLevels folder. Paste the included configuration text into the Level03 spot of the LEGO.cfg file. Start a new game or load an existing game. The level should appear on the right-hand side. The level is quite a bit more challenging, but still possible, if your raiders start unupgraded.1 point -
Everyone Panic!
ShadowDraikana reacted to The Soleutator for a topic
Map Name: EVERYONE PANIC! Map Objective: Get out alive and collect 200 energy crystals Difficulty: Medium-hard Download Links: v1.0, v1.2 Notes: This mission is designed to be a slightly more difficult sequel/replacement to Rocky Horror. As you may guess, it will replace Rocky Horror, but be sure to see the readme (included with file) for installation instructions. This is my first official map, so I apologize if the map seems overwhelmingly large. It may take a while to get up and running, but if you focus on your objective, and read the full description and hints before starting, you will likely find a few tips that will help quicken things up. Known Bugs: -While moving through the first few caverns, there are a few potholes in the map, single squares that drop down a huge amount. I'm not sure what causes this, and I've checked and double-checked the heightmap, even raising it up a bit just in case, but the issue remains. Fortunately, it doesn't affect gameplay, and you'll forget about it after a while (trust me). -Your rock raiders may stop working at some point. If this occurs, try letting your rock raiders out of their vehicles; this solved the issue for me. -To avoid the same issue as above, try not to have operations or tasks going on on both sides of the river at once; it seems to cause issues with getting commands carried out. Backstory/Official Objective: After collecting our last 50 energy crystals, another disaster struck! As we were teleporting Rock Raider HQ out of what should have been our last mission, the sudden gravitational disturbance caused a chain reaction of seismic activity in the area to occur. The LMS teleporter became overloaded, causing most of Rock Raider HQ to be mis-teleported, and scattered around nearby caverns. Fortunately, all rock raiders were accounted for, but are now in great danger. The seismic disturbances caused a long-dormant volcano to erupt nearby, which is quickly engulfing the area. We are frantically trying to repair our teleporter, and simply cannot risk teleporting them out, lest they end up in even greater danger. Scanners show that there is an elevated area to the east. This is our best bet if we wish to survive. Get to this higher ground as quick as possible, while salvaging as many energy crystals as you can, as the safe zone to the east has relatively few energy crystals Once an initial escape is made, build a support station immediately, and then build up base defenses. Once you have done this, you must collect 100 energy crystals. Unfortunately, the area you will be building your base in has relatively few energy crystals, and you will not be able to complete the mission with the crystals in this area. The good news is that there is an area rich in energy crystals to the southwest, across the river. Be careful down there, rock raider! There's no telling where else the volcano may have erupted, and our scanners have been having difficulty detecting where it lies. Be ready to evacuate a cavern immediately if you accidentally drill through a wall holding back a river of lava. Scanners have also picked up signs of rock monsters in the area, probably trying to escape the volcano. Watch your back at all times.1 point -

Editing saved games
Cloudstrife987 reacted to lol username for a topic
I've done a bit of tinkering with LI1's save formats, by opening them in HxD and doing file comparisons and the like. I haven't done a whole lot, but it seems fairly basic, so I'll just post some of what I know here, at the very least to get some other people interested. Player names are obviously stored in Players.gsi, but not as text - rather, with values like 00 for A, 01 for B, 02 for C, etc. and 00 between letters. There's some other stuff in there, but I haven't messed with it much. Each player's name has a corresponding G#.GS file - G0.GS, G1.GS, G3.GS, etc. Open one of these and you'll get some basic config stuff followed by a bunch of variables - again, I haven't looked into it much, but I do know that eighth value in the file controls the current character you're playing as, and at the very end of all the other stuff there's two things that can easily be edited very easily: the sky color (I was able to edit these and change the color manually without trouble never mind, it's weird and glitching out on me now, default is 56 54 68) and the light position (just a single digit, and of course it can be altered in-game as well via observation deck controls, like the sky color). Of course, there's a ton of other data in there which I haven't messed with - stuff that saves the customizable aspects of the game, what missions you've done, your scores, etc. If somebody else wants to look deeper into all that, be my guest - I imagine most of this could be figured out quite easily by comparing two game save files that are identical except for one thing, then narrowing down what changed between the two files (that's how I noted which value controls the current character, simply do the same for other values).1 point -

Rockmare
Lair reacted to joev14 for a topic
Rockmare... . . My Fifth and final custom map that I'll be doing, I've enjoyed playing around with rock raiders, but there's a big limit to how creative you can be with the vanilla game, and how many times you can make something interesting and still have it be cool to see. So, without further ado, I give you Rockmare, my flagship level. I consider it to be a level that will test you more than you could ever imagine. Minor annoyances in the game that you used to overlook have become the very things that will cause your doom. Please post here how many times it took you to beat this level, and how long it took you on your winning try. Briefing: While mining in a strange cavern, a horde of rock monsters chased a group of rock raiders into a cavern, then a cave in occurred and trapped them there. Guide the rock raiders back through the caved in walls and return to the base. Then finish the mission by collecting 150 energy crystals. First Goal: Locate the Base. You may not build any new buildings until the base is found. GOALS: (After base is found) 1. Collect 150 Energy Crystals 2. Collect 300 ore BONUS GOALS: 1. Don’t lose any rock raiders or vehicles while still searching for the base. 2. Do not teleport up any buildings to add to your final crystal count 3. Collect 500 ore Map download: http://www.mediafire.com/?3viv9l6voiwobkc Thanks to Lair who attempted to beat this level, though he was a bit sleepy, he did decent commentary Part 1: http://www.youtube.c...&feature=relmfu Part 2: http://www.youtube.c...&feature=relmfu1 point -

Alright, after hearing Cirevam's pointers for the map, I redid it from scratch (this one wasn't as hard to do as Erode and Conquer since it's waaay smaller). I shrunk the map from 50x50 down to 30x30, reformed the rooms so that they're more natural looking, added way more drillable walls, lava, and much more. bonus points if you can drill every wall in the level. Briefing: During a Mining Expedition, we located a cavern rich in energy crystals, we set up a power station, docks, and several mining lasers. We sent two of our raiders downstream to see if there were any more large deposits of energy crystals, but while searching they caused a cave-in and cut off the water to our base. At first we thought nothing of it, but a few days later, a flood of water burst through a bunch of solid rock behind our base. (That just goes to show you the power of erosion, it can break through SOLID ROCK). Get down there and set up a base, then locate our docks and mining lasers, after doing this continue the operation by collecting 100 energy crystals! 1. Locate the Base 2. Collect 100 Energy Crystals (Or more if you so choose) WARNING: SPOILER, don't read this until you've located the base! Erode And Conquer Reloaded
Lair reacted to joev14 for a topic
Alright, after watching Cirevam's vid, I've taken into consideration the things he pointed out and made a massive overhaul of the map, I shrunk it from 100x75 squares all the way down to 40x40. I fixed the map edge and made it 3 solid rock cells at its thinnest spots, made major changes to the erosion, added monsters, and in general, made the level a whole lot harder . So have fun. briefing: Welcome back Rock Raider, while mining in a large cavern rich in massive quantities of energy crystals (and recharge seams), our geological center broke down without our knowing, and the area around our base was severely eroded away before we noticed what was happening (Lol, fail on chief’s part). (This is a Lava Level) We need you to get your team down there, teleport up the buildings, then move them to a safer cavern and reconstruct them, then explore the rest of the caves and locate a recharge seam and finish the mission by collecting 150 energy crystals. 1. Warp down Rock Raiders, then Teleport up the buildings (ALL of them) 2. Rebuild the original buildings (A Toolstore, Teleport pad, Power Station, Support Station, and Upgrade Station) in a room atleast fifty squares away. 3. Locate atleast one Recharge Seam (A reachable one, the ones surrounded by lava don’t count) 4. Collect 150 Energy Crystals (Or more if you so choose) Big thanks to Lair who did a playthrough of this map!
