Guardian Outpost
aidenpons and 2 others reacted to RRChief for a topic
Hey guys! After a delay of almost 4 months, I'm back with my newest RR building creation, presenting the Guardian Outpost! The Guardian Outpost is the ultimate base defence, it consists of two main towers, each housing a laser cannon and sonic emitter dish. The laser cannon serves to destroy any rock monsters trying to wreck your base (or act as a mining laser if you want ), while the sonic emitter dishes scare away any pesky slimy slugs looking for a quick EC snack. Thats not all! It also comes packed with two landing pads, each housing a tunnel scout so you can perform reconnaissance & scouting missions. Moreoever, unlike most other buildings, the Guardian Outpost can just be teleported down instead of having to go through the labourious process of having to set up the barriers and carry the resources over etc if you have the necessary ores & ECs. This way you can quickly reinforce an area far away from your main base to protect your Raiders or the resources they are trying to collect. Hope you all like it! A creation by RRChief3 points -

Calcite Copter VS Cybernetic Rock Monster
Quisoves Potoo and one other reacted to PeabodySam for a topic
Long after their famous mission to Planet U, the LEGO Rock Raiders have traveled to a jungle planet on the far side of the galaxy. Beneath the planet's surface, they have discovered that the planet is rich in Brickonium Energy Crystals and other rare minerals. However, much like Planet U, these underground caverns are home to beings of living rock and crystal. But then, as the Rock Raiders stumble the ruins of an underground insectoid civilization, they uncover some dark secrets of the past... including one of the insectoids' "little" experiments. Calcite Copter The Rock Raiders Calcite Copter is a one-man aircraft designed for quick travel in underground caverns. Its sleek design lets it cut through the air with ease during flight, while its propeller, stabilized by means of advanced Rock Raider technology, gives it full vertical access to descend into the deepest underground trenches. The Calcite Copter also has a mounted mining laser turret that, when powered up with blue Brickonium, can cut through even hard rock with ease, although it expends much of the crystal's energy in doing so. Although designed for speed and maneuverability, the Calcite Copter is not particularly well-armored, and Jet was in for a horrific surprise when she stumbled upon this cybernetic rock monster! Gallery Cybernetic Rock Monster There is no name for this monstrosity, although some of the Rock Raiders have taken to referring to it by the nickname "Mad Jack". This ancient creature was once made of living rock and crystal, much like most of the rock monsters throughout the LEGO Universe. However, it was cybernetically enhanced by a civilization long since ruined, which replaced entire parts of its rock body with incredible machinery powered by a powerful energy crystal implanted into its chest. Now, this terror roams the underground caverns of the planet, posing a nightmare to anyone unfortunate to meet its rock claws and steel teeth. Gallery ----- This was a project I was working on since late 2010. The idea for the cybernetic rock monster was loosely inspired by Mad Jack from Donkey Kong 64. Here's concept artwork, along with some artist's comments. If you want to see 360o rotations of the models and some of the ways they can be moved, here's a video showcasing the models. Comments and constructive criticism are welcome!2 points -
Rocket Racers and Rollcage Comparisons
le717 and one other reacted to Olivus Prime for a topic
It's pretty much common knowledge now that Rocket Racers used ATD's Rollcage engine, but nobody seems to have directly compared the two online. Since I bought Rollcage yesterday, I thought I'd go through some of the similarities I spotted, and some other interesting tidbits. First up, both feature the exact same opening to their races. The same camera angles are used, the HUD fades in in the same way and the countdown has the same animation (despite being slower in Rocket Racers, presumably to brace younger players). The cars seem to have similar physics (as can be predicted), but while Rollcage's cars have a brilliant freedom to their motion (e.g. being hit by a missile sends your car hurtling off into the sky, spinning wildly as it does so), the Rocket Racers cars are literally a lot more grounded. They almost always stay upright, the only exception being when they mount the track kerb, and they return to Earth a lot faster after having been hit by a weapon. The vehicles share their sharp steering and fast acceleration though, with the former not being helped by easily-broken steering wheels. Turbos are virtually the same in both - your car experiences a very sudden burst of acceleration, and, with skilled manoeuvring, the higher speed can be kept constant indefinitely. Unfortunately I can't remember if turbo starts were possible in Rocket Racers, as they are in Rollcage. In Rollcage, hitting a certain button causes your car to spin on the spot several times and realign itself with the track to face forwards. The animation for this seems to be identical to that of a car hitting an oil slick in Rocket Racers. The track designs are similar in both. Rollcage features fairly active environments, with hovering signs, mining machines and avalanches, and most of the structures within these environments are destructible. The activity around the track is similar in Rocket Racers, especially in Space Racers, despite no interaction taking place between the drivers and the environment. End-of-race camera angles are very similar in both, though this is a little loose of a statement and Rollcage features several angles I don't remember seeing in Rocket Racers. Just a little insight I thought I'd post, and I'd recommend Rollcage to any racing fans out there. The main game doesn't last long at all, but there's some skill involved and the innovative concept is executed remarkably well.2 points -

I uploaded it via FileDropper, because I don't know if these will be the final textures. I may have missed a spot while texturing, but this is just a quick update. Once (completely) done, I'll upload some more textures along with these via the RRU uploader.2 points -

Wot I Fink: Women in Gaming - In-Game
Jimbob and one other reacted to Fush for a blog entry
I'm just gonna link this here since it's relevant http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MenAreGenericWomenAreSpecial (and by relevant I mean I'm basically just paraphrasing the article) I think one of the biggest problems is that us consumers, for whatever reason, are still not accustomed to the idea of having women as prominent characters in games. Basically every time a woman appears in a game it becomes a huge deal for whatever reason. Have a female character in an active, badass role and it's "HUGE STEP TOWARDS EQUAL RIGHTS," have a female character in a more passive role and it's "TOTALLY SEXIST." And at the same time no one gives a s*** about the roles that male characters play because they're just there. Basically the problem I think, or at least a big part of the problem, is with society as a whole's perception of a "person." A man is considered a "person," and their sex is more or less ignored, but a woman is always "A WOMAN" and their sex is an IMPORTANT CHARACTER TRAIT. Women are never treated as just another person, they are always singled out for no reason other than that they are female. Everything they do or that happens to them becomes a reflection on the entire female populace, and no one ever stops to consider that maybe, just maybe, these actions and events have nothing whatsoever to do with the characters sex. We need to realize that women are people too and stop making a big deal about it. Then maybe things can start to change.2 points -

You have no right to claim that with providing some evidence first. I don't get turned on everytime I see a picture of a wolf and a human fused together in a sexual manner, and I'm extremely sure that most humans who are not Furries are the same, if not all of them. Absolutely not. That's immature teens being immature teens. This happens EVERYWHERE. It's expected for at least a few people in school to make sexual jokes. Just because you're not acquainted with it, doesn't mean that every country town is the exact same. If you don't think sexual jokes are funny, then don't make them, and don't laugh. But I'm telling you, this is a normal thing to happen, and sooner or later you will need accept this.2 points -
The Unexpected agent PROJECT
The Ace Railgun reacted to Ben24x7 for a topic
I came up with an idea for a short film which is unfortunately not connected to either Lego, Rock raiders or mining. As I may've said in one of my Profile Feed notes that I was working on something called "The Unexpected agent" and "The Unexpected agent (and his apprentice): gunned down". Here I will try and work on these projects as much as I can (with other stuff in the works) and if you want to join (which is very unlikely as you will all ignore this) then just ask me and I'll see what I can do! Pictures!: George and Max's helicopter hat escape scene from "The Unexpected agent (and his apprentice): at gun point". Poster for "The Unexpected agent", an adventure involving George and Co. Concept art for a character called Jack Paperback Poster for the second film. This is just incase the movies are a success and if people ask for a third one.1 point -
Rock raider remakes
Wognif reacted to Jimbob for a topic
Please, don't get angry and use oversized text. It really isn't the way to go about things on this forum and will only bring you disrespect from other members. Nothing in Cirevam's post was insulting, he was trying to help you achieve a model to be proud of. Additionally, you ask that no one comments on your models, and yet it seems the idea of this topic was for people to post models to receive feedback on? When people produce models that others consider to have room for improvement, they will suggest how that person can improve it. This is not to put them above you, to mock you, or just for the sake of abuse, but rather because these people genuinely want to help you get better at what you enjoy doing - and you should learn from them, as they more often than not will only give such advice if they have good experience themselves. Agreed, it does appear that the topics you have posted have received general feedback that isn't all 'Wahey! Brilliant! Nothing to improve on!', but don't take this negatively. Some people may disagree with me, but I think there is a standard at which work is expected to be on this forum - but this is primarily in terms of effort, not quality (although quality is a major help). If you produce something that has room for improvement, and people make it clear that this is the case - take it on board, and put in the effort to produce something better based on the feedback you have received. Continuing to produce work that could now have extra effort put in to make it better, well it just won't receive the same level of constructive criticism.1 point -

Lair reacted to BobaFett2 for a blog entry
What McJobless said... This is nothing new. If you think that society is decaying, it's because you didn't see these things as a child. The apparent worsening of society as you age is really because you see and hear more bad things as you grow up. It's not that society has decayed, it's that little by little, the barriers between you and reality erode. It's not a new thing that people are attracted to the human body - it's been that way ever since something that could be called "human" by today's standards has existed. For example: I used to think that today's music was incredibly sexual - then I looked at the 70s, and bam - Whole Lotta Love, Slow Ride, etc... - and you can go even further back. And that's just music. As you grow up, you see this more often as you're more exposed to the world.1 point -

How is it shoved in your face? It's telling you about a documentary that's going to be on the history channel. It just happened to contain the word sex. Shoved in your face would mean that it appeared in the center of the screen, shouted it, and then wouldn't let you change the channel. And sodomy? Really? So can't even stand to see a little message in the history corner, but you would lecture people about sodomy and why it's wrong? If anything is disgusting, it's the hypocrisy of forcing your religious (or even worse, personal disgust with something that shouldn't affect you unless you choose for it to) views on people and then complaining about this. Seriously, where do you get off? Edit: Got confused about who he was referring to with the furry thing.1 point -

Fush reacted to Addictgamer for a topic
Several things to say to this. 1. The Explorer only started using Energy Crystals as fuel after it's accident, as they were the only accessible fuel source in the area. What it used for fuel beforehand is not stated 2. I don't believe that, in-universe, energy crystals are supposed to be made of plastic. They're called "crystals," I would assume that they are some kind of mineral. 3. Following the above, if everything in the LEGO universe is technically plastic, then, well, everything is plastic. People, food, vehicles. They still behave as though they weren't, so the point is moot. 4. The Explorer doesn't run on the crystals themselves, but uses the energy stored inside them. It is shown very clearly in-game that that energy crystals are 'drained,' after they are used to power something the crystal remains, devoid of energy. It is even shown in the ending, inside the explorer, the energy crystals are drained to produce a sort of liquid fuel. They can even be recharged afterward. It's most likely this green liquid that is combusted, it probably works the same as gasoline. Or perhaps the Explorer is a Hybrid and can run on electricity too? Either way, I think that Motor Ship is the most likely meaning. 1. What Lair said. 2 & 3: I was mocking LEGO physics, actually. They drive me crazy to no end. 4. Yes, I know it uses the energy inside the crystals. I'm not sure how it does it, though. I always interpreted the glowing green thing in the endgame clip as some scifi cool looking rendition of the energy, not as liquid crystal. For one thing, Legoland showed us that the presence of the crystals in some kind of boxlike device was enough to power the vehicle. I took that to mean that the energy crystals produce a constant rate of energy. As long as you use under that rate of production, you'll have power (that's why the base doesn't run out of power if you just let it sit around). But if you overdraw, like in firing a laser or a slug absorbing a crystal's energy, then the crystal is drained. The overdraw upsets whatever magical processes are occuring inside the crystal. That's how I think energy crystals work, and I assumed (and still do) the explorer powers itself via energy crystals in much the same way. But if that is some sort of fuel extracted from the crystals for combustion, then I guess it is a motor ship.1 point -

Now, it's your story, so do what you want with it, but frankly I can't see myself reading this seriously anytime in the future unless the writer gets and attitude change and starts to implement the many things that we have suggested to make your story better. Focusing on this bit, no-one who isn't regularly checking and memorising LEGO catalogs will have any clue what this is. Cyrem (or at least I don't) doesn't particularly care what it is, because he's not here to learn what sets to buy. He's here to help you. There was no indication for people like myself who don't buy LEGO sets on a regular basis anymore that what you mentioned was a real set. Brigs reacted to Fush for a topic
First, everything that Cyrem said. Well I don't know what else to do other than pick through this, line for line. I've only read the first, er, "Chapter," but honestly I doubt I need read further. Ugh... here we go. Yes that was stupid. Never do it again. But at least you realize you did wrong. On to the story. NononononoThis is not how you tell a story. Out with the parentheses! NO MORE. If you want to describe this guy, then for the love of Pinga describe him! Even something as simple as "He has brown eyebrows" would be preferable, still stale but acceptable. This, just, no. Do not insert your own commentary. Also, don't ever refer to another work. Never say "the guy from ~~~~" because then you immediately alienate every single reader who does not know ~~~~. Also, the "there is a xxxx who is xxxx" construction you have going on there, also bad. Try, "A LEGO City Minifigure is using a jet pack to get across the galaxy, when he notices a planet..." much better. This line's fine. Moving on. NO! Nonononono.Out with the persona commentary. NO MORE. YOU DO NOT BEGIN SENTENCES WITH AND. I mean, you can in many cases... this is not one of them. You also referred to another work again! don't do that! No.You tell us his name, then you refer to him by name. His name is something that should have been brought up when you were describing him (which, now that I think on it, never happened.) Or you could say something like "Fred, as he is called..." BUT NOT THIS. Also, you switch tenses here. Up until this point you were using present tense, here it switches to past tense. Yeah, don't do that. Pick a tense and stick to it. I don't know if this is one or two sentences so I'll treat it as one.So, yet again, ixnay on the arenthesespay, 'kay? If Fred can't tell what it is, then that should be expressed through the prose. "Fred couldn't tell what had hit him, but he figured it must have been a missile of some sort?" Something like that. And on 'Technic 1x1 half tube' nonsense. You've crossed the threshold from no description to to much detail. Something like "only a little damage" would actually be fine in this case. If you start giving exact measurements, don't. Estimate. Fred's not carrying a yardstick (I hope) It's not like he could precisely asses he damage done to an object n his back. “Cut out all these exclamation points. An exclamation point is like laughing at your own joke.†― F. Scott Fitzgerald. This guy knows what he's talking about. You should listen to him. Not quiiite a run-on, but still to much information for one sentence. You need to work on your pacing. "take an exploration" is not, so far as I'm aware, a correct construction in any for of any language. Were to begin? How about "had landed" instead of "happened to have landed?" 'Pocked' should be 'poked.' A slab of rock is very unlike a zit. You have a run on sentence. 'particular' I think should be 'peculiar.' I need to take a nap. I UNDERSTAND NOTHING. This may for all I know be technically not entirely incorrect but DEAR LAWD OF THE SOUTH it's confusing. Consider using a comma every now and again. They are your friends. They will love you forever if you treat them well. Too many quotes, I must double-post now.1 point -
Ben24x7's abysmal LMB "Legends of Chima" fan-fiction [Documented]
Aokpisz reacted to Cyrem for a topic
Alright, I've only read through the first chapter and I have some constructive criticism for you to improve your story writing skills. Spell checking. There was a lot of misspelled words in this story. Make sure you run it through a spell checker before posting. You don't have to do it now though, I have already run it through MS Word and fixed many words for you. Grammar. Some sentences are constructed incorrectly or use the wrong words to describe things. You wrote this: "His left was blocked by a forest and he would've easily been lost in it, his left was a deep embankment which ended up in a deep moat." You don't need to say the 'left was blocked' as a forest is not a brick wall. By describing the general surroundings like you tried to do, you can assume the reader will understand Fred's circumstances and why he might walk in a particular direction. Writing it the way you did makes it sound like it's a command/response game. "ground like a zit sticking out the skin" I don't think using a 'zit' to describe a hill makes for good reading. Besides, zits vary in shapes and sizes. Visualize your story to avoid saying things that are obvious. "He looked to his left at which he say what looked like a battlefield. He couldn't tell who was winning or losing ... before he could properly see what the soldiers looked like" Is this battle happening before his eyes? If not, he obviously won't know who is winning/losing. If it is, why does Fred seem invisible to the soldiers so that they just ignore his existence(Yet a bird notices him)? No Commentary. Don't add commentary to your stories "(the text in the brackets)", it should explain itself. The first paragraph shouldn't be in the first chapter at all. It ruins the flow of the story. Chapter Transition. Each chapter should flow on to each other. Chapter 1 to 2 in your story reads like this: "He could just see over the wall and was about to climb over the wall when the wall broke down" to "The wall crumbled and Fred with it. He ripped through a tent-like roof and landed in a pool of water." Wasn't Fred climbing the vine to look over the wall? Was this vine growing out of the wall or from a tree? Somehow the wall broke down itself and Fred managed to teleport inside the fortress in order to fall on a roof. It would be good, if you get a chance, to re-write each chapter with these things in mind. The story sounds interesting, but these things make the story hard to understand. PS. Your post had some bad text formatting which I assume is from copying and pasting from LMB's. I fixed it for you. PPS. Give this story a title.1 point -

From a gameplay standpoint, I agree that there should have been more tracks. But looking at the LEGO aspect, I'm really not sure how that could have happened. It's certainly not a problem for the Castle and Space themes, but they were already stretching Adventurers (Desert, jungle... Oh dear, nothing else, gotta merge the two for Adventure Temple Trail!), and Pirates was at its limit (Imperials, islanders, pirates... What else? That's it). I'm really not sure what they would have themed an additional set of tracks on for the two non-core themes... Sure, expand the final circuit, but again, what do you really base that off of when the theme is just generic racers?1 point -
