The Great Kanohi Project
le717 and one other reacted to Prototyke for a topic
I have decided to kill myself. Rather, I have decided to draw EVERY Kanohi mask. All of them. I have the names and powers for 106 109 masks (plus heads) right now. If there is something wrong, or I have forgotten something, let me know. We have enough insane people around here someone is bound to actually read through that. I plan to make at least one Kanohi a week until I have them all and then do something with them. Perhaps I'll make a poster. But it's the dedication and practice that I actually need, so I can show all of you guys my art, and in return you can all yell at me if I'm not making the masks. Every Monday (excepting times where I am unable to access a computer on a Monday) I will post the Kanohi I made the week before. If anyone wants to, they can critique it, or I will just use this as a more enjoyable reminder for myself to practice. As it is not yet a Monday, I won't post any new Kanohi, but here are the Kraahkan I made previously. Is it Kraahkan or Kraahkans for the plural? Completed Masks are displayed in the spoiler below. Edits- Added Avohkii / Kraahkan Combo mask to the list. Added Mask of Elemental power (from Bionicle: The Game) to the list. Added Kraahkan Face to the list. Do not use any of my art without permission and crediting me. Thank you.2 points -

Tutorial: Skin Texturing
Rock Monster reacted to Jimbob for a topic
For my first tutorial on RRU, I'd like to make a simple guide on modding Lego Racers by creating custom textures for the models. These textures replace current textures, they don't add new textures. I've written quite a lot, you should be able to skim-read through if you don't have the patience. Preparing the Mod This is often standard procedure when modding, but if you're not aware of what to do, follow these steps. You will create a new directory for your Lego Racers game in which you can safely make a new texture mod. 1. Find the install directory of your Lego Racers game. 2. Copy the containing folder (LEGO Racers) and paste it in the same directory. Rename this new folder to something suitable, e.g. 'RacersModded' (I've purposely made it twelve characters for the next step). 3. Inside the new folder, you will find the LEGO.JAM. Download JMMB's JAM Extractor, and use it to extract this file. 4. You should now have two folders inside the main LEGO_JAM folder, 'GAMEDATA' and 'MENUDATA', ready for modding. Making the Skins The texture files for models in LEGO Racers can be found in GAMEDATACOMMON and MENUDATAPARTDB. While both use the same file, the former is for textures seen while actually racing, while the latter is for textures that you see in the menu section of the game. To mod a texture, you first need to download these template texture files, ripped from the PC game. Inside you will find a collection of files including heads, headgear, bodies, and legs. These are the templates you will use to create new textures. The textures are named using a simple system. Files containing 'CHST' refer to the torso, files containing 'DFLT' are the face, 'LEG(S)' are the leg of the model and 'HELMET', 'HAIR' and 'HAT' are obviously those pieces of headgear. In addition, files containing 'MAT' are for in-game AI opponent textures. None of these can currently be viewed, which is why you downloaded the template skins. I've given a small explanation of them below. So, you simply need to draw over the template files in any image editor to create new ones! The files must be saved as .BMP images, but can be in any resolution (so long as it is a power of 2), allowing for textures of a variety of qualities. Remember, the first four textures above will only affect the player textures - it is the MAT texture that is used for AI opponents. Adding the Skins All characters in the Lego Racers game have a two-letter name assigned to them which is used in their relevant texture files. Some characters (mainly bosses) have all four textures, while others will share the standard ones. The naming system for the racers are as follows (in circuit number order, followed by alphabetical order, the two letters to the left are the file names): You just need to change the file names of your textures to match the characters in-game, then copy the files into the GAMEDATACOMMON and MENUDATAPARTDB folders. Original Skin Textures I have ripped all of the skin textures from the game, and you can click the link below to download them (thanks Xiron for the HELMET2 texture). JJ's LR Texture Rips They are saved as BMP images with the exact same names of the game textures for your modding convenience I've kept the original screenshots I took below in case it's easier for people. Bodies Here are all the bodies found in the game. Faces Here are all the faces found in the game. Headgear Here is all the headgear found in the game. Legs This section isn't complete yet, as the method I used to work out the files doesn't quite work with legs. How the Textures Work To help even further, I have begun to determine how the game maps the textures onto the models. So far I have worked out the helmet, body and legs - feel free to use these textures as reference when creating your own textures. Helmet The yellow section is the main area. The white square at the lower-left is used for the rest of the helmet, and the line of colours above this is the visor. Chest The black areas are not used, and you can use the screenshots below to determine the rest. It is worth noting that in menu selection, the game uses the right hand to texture the left hand too, while in-game both hands use separate textures. In addition, the template textures have shading, suggesting that the textures may have been designed to be more advanced before the final release. Legs Again, the black areas are not used. The leg texture has (annoyingly) only three areas to colour. The yellow area is the main portion of the leg (thigh and that-lower-part-no-one-knows-the-name-of), and the green area is used for the belt section. The red area is used for the foot, sides and back, which unfortunately restricts texturing items such as shoes. Screenshots Recompiling The final step in texture modding is to recompile the mod. Once all the modified textures are copied into the folders, you can either recompile the main folder into a JAM file using the Jam Extractor, or run the game without the Jam Archives. Then, voila! You have successfully created a texture mod!1 point -
The Rock Raider Chronicles
aidenpons reacted to Drill Master for a topic
As some of you may know, I had made a comic called "The Rock Raider Chronicles" which is a series of stories that I come up with based on LRR. Well, due to my thoughts, I have decided to end The Rock Raider Chronicles as a comic, and restart it as written stories. I see myself as a better writer than drawer, and this way I can go for the Two fan fiction writer awards on the side. My first story will be what my comic started out with: "Ryley and Sam", a story about two best friends training to climb aboard the LMS Acension. I will have these stories posted here at least every three to five days, depending what I'm doing during that time. I will work on "Ryley and Sam" and hope to post it soon! THE ROCK RAIDER CHRONICLES These are the stories of the legendary Rock Raiders! The Rock Raider Chronicles
Drill Master reacted to Fush for a topic
I liked it. Of course I had seen the comic beforehand so I knew how it would end, but the written ending is much, much better. Very sad. ;-; I like the concept and the story is well-written overall. I do have a few criticisms, though... These lines feel very... clichéd. I wouldn't know what else to say here... This should be "he and Riley" or "Riley and he" (both are correct but the first sounds better) It's a common mistake. These lines are very choppy and don't flow well. I think you should be able to fix them fine. I'm not sure 'without warning' is the best phrase to use here... but that's just my opinion. The names seem to be listed in a random order... would you consider alphabetizing them? That's how it's usually done. Aside from these I didn't really see anything wrong with it. Good job, and keep it up.1 point -

Slimy Slug Hole Grinder
aidenpons reacted to JayWilliams for a topic
I was trying to think of a vehicle that would solve a problem you face in the game. And since the worst enemy in the game is the never-ending barrage of Slimy Slugs, I figured, why not build a vehicle that would solve this problem, once and for all! Basically, you'd drive the Slimy Slug Hole Grinder over a hole, lower the auger, and let it totally destroy the slimy slug hole, rendering it a pile of rubble, which you can then shovel clean if you wish. While designing this, I tried to keep with the Rock Raider color theme and design as much as I could. And best of all, you can actually raise and lower the auger with the rope/gear system on top. Any feedback appreciated! Special thanks: to my brother for his advice and help. Slimy Slug Hole Grinder1 point -

How? Captain Click tells you about it if you annoy him enough at the top of the Infocenter, and the Brickster chase makes you go right on the path to the cave. Unless... you've never played Lego Island before? :01 point -
Some concept models
STUDZ reacted to lol username for a topic
Concept models are nice to look at and all, but I'd recommend actually focusing on making a game first. I've seen countless LEGO fan game projects go entirely down the tube because all of the people behind them focused on ideas and models without any solid work put into making something playable. Now, the models themselves... Eh, decent, but a bit plain looking, especially the second house which is incredibly boxy, even for LEGO. Toss in more details. The gas station design looks a little odd, I honestly haven't seen many gas stations like that (I actually can't remember seeing any, but I've seen so many of 'em while traveling that I'm sure I've seen something somewhat like it sometime ).1 point -

LEGO Island 2 Beta Video
MCHover reacted to lol username for a topic
Here's the differences I picked out: The GUI is almost always different in some way. Buildings don't rebuild themselves, instead, they spin around and poof into existence like in the PS1 game. No water wave effects or tilting on the Res-Q boat while moving, speed seems slightly faster but maybe not. Bricks in Brick Dive are blue until picked up, then they turn red. In the final game, they're always red. Those fish don't seem to be moving. What on earth is happening at 1:10? The mummy's tomb is darker. Pepper runs insanely fast once the boulder starts chasing him, leaving it far behind. Kilroy's speedster is green. Rock Monsters are light grey instead of brown. The sky is black in Fishing. Isn't the centrifuge area slightly different in the final game? As noted before, the GUI is almost always different, but one difference that stands out is that Cedric's head is on the health meter in the Asteroid Belt. ("Fire all weapons, dispatch the fish ship to bring back his body!") Visual differences in Asteroid Belt itself. The landing platforms on Ogel have images of Earth on them.1 point -

Entries 6 and 7 have been added. I have now surpassed 3000 words and can qualify for the fiction writer award. @Ben, I understand what you want, but I must decline. While I am not opposed to the idea of having a journal written for one of my characters by another member, I must honestly say that based on your previous work I am not comfortable entrusting them to you at this time. Perhaps one day, after you've gotten your own fic cleaned up to where I'm convinced you could do it well, I might. But as it stands right now the answer is a blunt no. That said, if any other member has an ongoing RR fic and would like to use one of my characters in it, I might consider it, depending on if I like your writing or not.1 point -
