So I just worked out how to do semi-transparency, I haven't seen it posted before so forgive me if this has already been discussed I think you can only make whole objects semi-transparent, rather than just parts of the texture like with alpha channels. To do it, you need to go into an MDB file, like BODYPART.MDB, and add the following to one of the material entries: k_46 [number from 0-255] 0 is fully transparent, 255 is opaque. So for example, I added this: k_46 127 To the entry for vv_chst, which produced this:

... Meh. I like retro game-y stuff, I even like the visual style of Minecraft, but this just doesn't look very good IMO. It's rather uncanny; it doesn't fit with the 3D model style and just looks kinda awkward. If you guys wanna go for it, I'm not gonna stop you, but sorry, I'm not interested. And yes, I'm aware this isn't what it would look like once complete... But it just doesn't seem like these two things belong together.

As you may, or may not know, I have doing a lot of modding with the cutscenes over the last couple of days (you can see a few examples on my youtube channel). Up until now I'd mostly only managed to move/remove models or change the camera. I did attempt to put a dancing King Kahuka in the Rocket Racer circuit cutscene (vid) but it didn't work that well, and that was just replacing a model, not inserting a new one. Today I wanted to try copying a model from one cutscene and inserting it into another, properly, with working textures and animations and everything, and it turns out it's not as straightforward as I would have liked. After a couple of hours of trial and error and constantly editing and re-editing several binary files I finally managed to do this: So it is possible, and now that I've done it once I should be able to do it again much more easily but it's still a pain to do. If I can work it out I'll write a post about exactly what you need to do to achieve this. I imagine we could do some pretty interesting stuff by modding the cutscenes. Has anyone else tried anything like this? And do you think it would be possible for someone with more programming knowledge than me (someone with programming knowledge) to write something that could do all the hard work for us? It's just copying files and editing the binaries.

I really do not like the way things are going with the most commonly used technologies. I mean seriously, they are causing me all sorts of head aches. The new handhelds are crap at getting really odd shots. Ones that require you to lean out of something dangerously (my brother knows what I am talking about) or bend over awkwardly are ones I am talking about. I don't really have that problem. I have a Samsung U900 Flipshot. It, as the name implies, it is a flip phone. Like many such handhelds, the screen works at many angles while the camera is active. I can even use it to inspect the top of a shelf. Most digital cameras do not have that. The U900 is also compatible with normal gloves, a feature that many newer handhelds sadly lack. The U900 also fits perfectly in my LEGO Spybot's bumper without weighing it down too much: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg4KrmEeSmA That would have been very difficult to get with anything other than a Samsung U900 without really screwing around with the bumper or device. Another thing it has is true speeddial. Yes, the newer models have it, but it is clumsy to use if you need more than one contact and potentially slower because you have to unlock the device. Operating systems are also taking a tumble in my books. As you already know, all of the post XP Windows systems SUCK for legacy software. They are also gigantic both on the disk and memory. 32.7 GB (35,158,609,920 bytes) for this node's Windows folder alone. The base memory usage including the support software? More than 1024 MiB (~1200 MIB). My laptop's drive is only 40GB and it has only one gebibyte of memory installed. Can't we just have a simple system that works? Maybe a DOS command line version of NT with some Windows GUI components for the programs that need them? And don't get me started on Youtube and hypocritical ways (YOUtube?). I have no idea on what I am going to do with a channel made for PC users that uses a design that only really makes sense for mobile users. And people wonder why I so headstrong in my technological ways. Just about every "upgrade" that is being put out there is for me a downgrade because I lose a lot of functionality and gain next to none.

Wow... Thank you Alcom for your advice and compliments; I can't believe I was that much off... The mask was about 7 px too tall. New version- And transparent Just realized the Kraahkan has to be drawn twice, so I am up to 109 masks now. *sigh*

The shading is absolutely fantastic, but the proportions make me tilt my head a bit. Overall the mask seems to be around 10% too tall.

I'm not using my original CD. Yeah. It's one of those games where different releases act completely differently.

Ok, I tweaked a few things and made it widescreen, used a bigger logo (thanks Cyrem!), and got rid of the "city" background because it didn't feel very Rock Raiders. I'm not planning to modify it any further, but I will put versions with and without the music up for download for anyone who wants to use them for anything.

I believe Maider Rania wants to reskin Rock Raiders assets to look like Minecraft assets, not the opposite which has been done.

I saw a texture pack for a Rock Raiders themed Minecraft texture here, but I think that he means that the Rock Raiders' textures would look like the Minecraft characters. If that has already been done I will be shocked. If I interpreted that wrong, Raider Mania, you need to change to '1) Change the Iron golem to a Rock Monster. 2) Change Steve to a Rock Raider.' O.T. Another great blog post, again I agree with your points. Without copying I wouldn't have learnt and developed so much in my Graphics Design course, but plagiarism is a complete no-go in everything we produce. For further visual explanation, I highly recommend people take a look at the video below (applying it not just to art but all creative forms). It's not exactly about copying/plagiarism but talks about ideas, and I think it's a brilliant animation that really communicates the point well.

Alright, I've only read through the first chapter and I have some constructive criticism for you to improve your story writing skills. Spell checking. There was a lot of misspelled words in this story. Make sure you run it through a spell checker before posting. You don't have to do it now though, I have already run it through MS Word and fixed many words for you. Grammar. Some sentences are constructed incorrectly or use the wrong words to describe things. You wrote this: "His left was blocked by a forest and he would've easily been lost in it, his left was a deep embankment which ended up in a deep moat." You don't need to say the 'left was blocked' as a forest is not a brick wall. By describing the general surroundings like you tried to do, you can assume the reader will understand Fred's circumstances and why he might walk in a particular direction. Writing it the way you did makes it sound like it's a command/response game. "ground like a zit sticking out the skin" I don't think using a 'zit' to describe a hill makes for good reading. Besides, zits vary in shapes and sizes. Visualize your story to avoid saying things that are obvious. "He looked to his left at which he say what looked like a battlefield. He couldn't tell who was winning or losing ... before he could properly see what the soldiers looked like" Is this battle happening before his eyes? If not, he obviously won't know who is winning/losing. If it is, why does Fred seem invisible to the soldiers so that they just ignore his existence(Yet a bird notices him)? No Commentary. Don't add commentary to your stories "(the text in the brackets)", it should explain itself. The first paragraph shouldn't be in the first chapter at all. It ruins the flow of the story. Chapter Transition. Each chapter should flow on to each other. Chapter 1 to 2 in your story reads like this: "He could just see over the wall and was about to climb over the wall when the wall broke down" to "The wall crumbled and Fred with it. He ripped through a tent-like roof and landed in a pool of water." Wasn't Fred climbing the vine to look over the wall? Was this vine growing out of the wall or from a tree? Somehow the wall broke down itself and Fred managed to teleport inside the fortress in order to fall on a roof. It would be good, if you get a chance, to re-write each chapter with these things in mind. The story sounds interesting, but these things make the story hard to understand. PS. Your post had some bad text formatting which I assume is from copying and pasting from LMB's. I fixed it for you. PPS. Give this story a title.
