New version of ROCK RAIDERS - update
coffins and 14 others reacted to StewartG for a topic
I thought I would share some good news on the remake of Lego Rock Raiders, we were going to call it Block Raiders (due to Lego trademark on the RR name, however the good news is that the trademark has expired and also the extra time they have to renew it, and we have just registered the 'Rock Raiders' trademark ourselves. The name will live on.15 points -

The best of this giant muddle of terribly designed, programmed, and sometimes obsolete software. Linux is: A) More secure than your window will ever be. And don't even bring that up, Mac, you're a sick joke. B) More customizable than your box will ever be. C) Not perfect, but a whole lot closer than anything out there. D) Follows a good standard, unlike windows and Mac which don't even comply with any reasonable standards. E) Has better performance. I mean seriously, why do you have so much overhead, windows? F) Any decent distribution is free so you don't have to waste your money. You don't like it? Get another one of the many free distributions. Don't like any? That's your own problem. Go make your own or pay microsoft or apple for their overrated junk. G) Cannot run your windows only programs. It's a conspiracy! Don't support Microsoft's monopoly! H) Actually can run windows programs. Wine, as of late, is a whole lot more reliable and even ends up running programs better than Windows itself can. I) I like it. A lot. That should be reason enough. J) Supports a wide range of hardware. If you can name the piece of hardware, somebody wrote a kernel module that makes it work. And if nobody did, you can easily request it or write your own. K) Has the best customer support. Why? There is no customer support. There is no warranty, express or implied. Everything is your own liability you lazy bugger. Something breaks? Fix it yourself with the help of the entire Linux userbase only a forum or stackoverflow post away. L) Supports posix. That's 100 brownie points right there. M) Packages. They make life so much easier than dealing with dumb installers, program files hell, and the infernal registry. N) I'm getting tired of typing this. Switch to linux now or all your base are belong to us. [7:12:14 PM] Ciprian: YOU HAVE BEEN CHASTISED. NOW GET OFF MY LAWN. DDI looking for help for Rock Raiders 2 (Rock Raiders inspired title)

We have been impressed and encouraged with the dedication of our Rock Raiders fans, and after years of requests we are looking at creating a new Rock Raiders. We are considering combining a mine craft style world, so you can build and dig in more ways, please tell us what you think?2 points -
I mentioned it in the documentation, but I had no video proof of it. This is what happens when you use the 'GHB path' for the 'RRB path'. Copying the nodes straight from GHB to RRB would result in a syntax error, so I worked my way around it and used a different method to simulate the 'path switching'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZIr95C2MAU&feature=youtu.be2 points

Map Creator (0.9.11)
ShadowDraikana reacted to Cyrem for a topic
Map Creator (0.9.11) Map Creator is a tool to build new LEGO Rock Raiders levels. Things to know: Import/Export single map files by clicking the "Options" button in the correct map mode. Press [shift] while placing to speed place. That this is a BETA and you should report all bugs and errors. The Arrows on the bottom right hand corner change the mode. In the Monster Editor Right Click + [shift] will clear that tile. Import original game maps with the specific Original Map Importer. Paths and Rubble cannot be hidden. Screenshot: http://i.minus.com/izwI0JwMKmVBQ.jpg v0.9.11 Added Crystal to Object Mode Set Quantity of Rock Raiders or Crystals on one tile. Dumping my RR dream here because.
Car CrazeXVI reacted to Addictgamer for a blog entry
Right kiddies, I want you to listen to this awesome experience I'm archiving here. Last night, I had a recurring dream. And in this dream, were a bunch of rockraiders. It was that one weird level I often end up playing in RR dreams. However, this time, I found several interesting and different things: A) There were two new floor types. The first was a modification of Ice, and the second was some sort of purpley weird rocky? ground. B) There was a big blue crystal/stalagmite growing out of the floor. If I clicked on it, I could tell my raiders to harvest red energy crystals and some weird grey stuff C) There was a big purple crystal/stalagmite growing out of the floor nearby. Clicking on it showed it was some sort of machine/device that was asking for 4 red energy crystals. D) My raiders brought them over and suddenly I was brought to a cutscene of this giant chained thing breaking free. It was some kind of cool rockmonster with armor. Its helmet was red and white. Then it broke out of the armor and transformed into a mostly noncorpeal being that was surrounded in black mist/darkness/poor special fx. Then the cutscene ended and the "boss battle" began in this odd cave with the guy from the cutscene and the raiders who had brought the crystals. D1) I had the premonition that defeating him was the alternate way to win the game since he was supposed to be some kind of secret final boss, as opposed to merely beating all the levels. So, yay. Cool dream worthy of archiving. May this serve as inspiration for me and other people someday.1 point -

How about we start with whatever design docs they have? It'd be nice to get an idea of what exactly they're planning.1 point -

Source code? But seriously, rewards such as early-Beta access, the ability to create a level for the game (like, pre-release they allow you to design a level that will become part of the actual game), a copy of the game design document, maybe even a special physical edition with some kind of statue and some lithographs.1 point -

Some requests I have: 1. I'd like to request it be free as in "freedom of speech, not free beer". (See the free software foundation) That is, for us to take the source code and modify it as we wish to extend the game even further, and even maintain it so that it will work on additional operating systems (I'm a Linux user myself), and will work for years to come in this world of everchanging technology. This does not mean the game will be given away for free, it simply means that the community is able to modify the source code as it wishes so as to better the program and keep it up to date, and take advantage of whatever new technologies are created as time goes on. DDI Would still possess the right to sell it to its users, in fact, I'd DONATE if you guys distributed it for no cost. 2. I request linux support. I don't have steady Windows access, and I prefer to use Linux for everything anyway. This would be very easy if the software is made free to modify, as I would be able to port it to Linux and DDI be able to focus on making the game without having to worry about compiling Linux binaries (though It'd be great if cross platform libraries were used!).1 point -

Popcorn Arcade was a budget Wii range. This is for PC (AFAIK) and they have been motivated to do this because of the fans of LRR and the fact that they are trying to work with us to create a game we all like is quite simply the best thing I've heard a developer do. I'd also like to add that because it's their own title, they aren't being pressured by deadlines and they can decided what happens with the game instead of them.1 point -

A non-LEGO mining game would be awesome as well. Especially if we could mod it to be LEGO themed... I agree completely with the ideas Cyrem has already posted, and to add some of my own... Keep the third and first person modes where you control units, but expand on them. It felt weird to be able to play directly as a Rock Raider in the original game, but unable to do basic things except for drilling walls. Have scenery objects, or building-type things in the levels not placed by the player. Ancient ruins, as a random example. Perhaps some could have special functions or you could have levels focused on finding or defending points like that? I'll think of more and post them.1 point -

From what I understand they are looking to make a non-licensed mining game. It won't contain LEGO and won't be the same as LRR because they can't copy it. So I assume it's a new better mining game that incorporates elements of LRR. Vertical and horizontal digging is an idea they like, as do I and am sure many others will like this. For me, since creating RRU. In an email he mention he would like to get ideas for Monsters, Vehicles and other gameplay mechanics. He also mentioned what we would like to be moddable. So, things I think are important modding features: - Using a popular 3D model format (because not many can afford to use LightWave) such as .obj as an example. - Landscapes that can be entirely re-textured - NERPS was great in the fact that we could make custom level scripts, but it could be expanded further. - Simple level file formats like LRR ( makes it easier for people like me to make level editors) or if you wanted to go full out and make your own editor, thats great too. - Ability to add custom vehicles/monsters. - Language strings file (allows the game to be changed to other languages) - AI scripting for monsters if possible. Basically, the more you allow us to do, the more amazing mods we can make which in turn also increases its popularity. Things we wish RR could do: - HD resolution support! - Some sort of multplayer aspect - In-Game menus that support the custom content (vehicles or other unit types) - The ability to save and resume levels Other Ideas: - Flooding (like lava erosion but for water too) More ideas to come.... If you need help in graphics or programming, I can try to lend a hand.1 point -
