BoB Rock Raiders Vehicles
Lind Whisperer and one other reacted to Fush for a topic
First note: BoB is an acronym I personally use, standing for Back-of-the-Box or Back-of-the-Booklet, for those models that are shown on the back of a LEGO set's box or booklet that serve as 'idea' models and lack instructions. I don't know if there is an official or fanon term for these models but that's what I call them. I wanted to recreate some of the BoB models from the Rock Raiders sets, so I found some instructions online and took a shot at it. However, only the RRHQ set had BoBs on it, and the pictures were incredibly low-res, but I did my best. The images I was working from can be found here, on the last three pages. Here we go. Note that all these names are made up by me, feel free to suggest better ones. Tall Dumper This one is I'm about 90% certain about. It was one of the clearest pictures, and was shown from two angles. I find it interesting, but I don't like it much. Side Dumper This one I'm less certain about, but it seems relatively accurate. This is a truck, similar to the Small Transport Truck, but with a larger bed and which dumps to the side (obviously) Small Mobile Crane this one was the smallest, blurriest picture, so it's probably the least accurate, but also the one I'm most proud of. I like this model, but it doesn't seem balanced. IT looks like it'd fall over all the time. Blue Hover This one was the clearest picture, so I'm certain it's almost completely accurate. A boring blue hovercraft. Energy Craft This one gave me trouble, as the picture is a little confusing, but eventually I figured out exactly what was going on (the box on the left wing is open, which threw me off). The 'cockpit' is too blurry to see, but the rest of the craft I'm certain of. Landing Craft This was another really small image, I had to improvise a bit but the bulk of it is accurate. I have no idea what's going on in the front though. So what do you guys think?2 points -
BoB Rock Raiders Vehicles
Lind Whisperer and one other reacted to alan for a topic
From what I saw in the Lego World Club magazines of 1999 (some of you may have read that I bought these german magazines to ship them to America) these models were first concepts I guess... at least these vehicles belong to this HQ here (but still the actual set #4990 is printed on the next pages) Scans from the magazine: These pictures have a slightly higher quality so that you can maybe build the HQ easier.2 points -
Lego Time Cruisers comics
alan and one other reacted to emily for a topic
alan has been able to help me to get the magazines from the German eBay listing earlier in the topic, and I believe the issue with the Space Port comic should be among them, as the listing included all of the 1999 issues. If it is in there, I'll plan to have it online sometime soon after I get the magazines in the mail.2 points -

As seen in set no. 60025, Grand Prix Truck. It needs some tweaking, mostly color blending. Tell me if you want a release. I have no intentions of making alternate expressions.1 point -

Very nice work! It's always a fun challenge to rebuild LEGO inspiration models, and what you've got so far seems well-done considering that you had only small, grainy images to work with. I'll just save you some work now and let you know that, if you decide to tackle the inspiration models for other sets, one of the inspiration models for the Loader-Dozer actually has instructions in the LEGO Mania magazine, and I already went ahead and built that one in LEGO Digital Designer. Unfortunately, none of the other inspiration models appear to have instructions in the LEGO Mania, but I suppose that's just the fun of the challenge, isn't it?1 point -

@Drill Master: Oh no, now he has a family ! The only thing, which would be even worse, would be a sitcom with this family called "The Runners" (or some other name).1 point -

Favorite Game of All-Time?
Wognif reacted to aidenpons for a topic
Eh... I'll think you'll find that most of these are LEGO-related... They're in order of favourtism. (Probably spelt that wrong, but WHO CARES?) Rock Raiders. Bionicle Heroes Battle for Middle-Earth 2 (Not 1. Only 2.) Voya Nui Online Game (especially with cheats... ) Age Of Empires 1. (NOT 2. Only 1.) (With expansions) Cryst-Alien Conflict. Lego Racers 1. Yup, I have no gaming life, especially as Minecraft is not on this list (probably around number 14 (Don't lynch me for that)) Reasons It's just an elegantly simple game, but with a whole lot of advanced stuff. Like the lasers. (Yes, I know they're pretty useless originally, but there is a lot of room for improvment) I like it. It's got good replay value, and good ol' Lego humour. The style is nice too. Pity you can't beat up Kardas. There's so much stuff you can do! Summoning Dragons and Balrogs, bringing forth Sauron himself, and ludicrously hard (but NOT impossible!) campaigns. Again, there's so much you can do. Wander round, get weapons, beat up the Piraka for shards, watch as the Tunnel Scout flies swiftly across the lava the apes and turtles get completely poned by the Mask Of Life. I've started to make LoTR scenarios on it. There's a surprising amount you can do! It's also very simple, like RR. Aargh, so fun! I wish they made a level editor though... And the bonus levels are also really interesting. (Beeblebrox cheat code is also fun. ) *Hums main menu song* Good replay value, and I STILL haven't beat all the Time Trials! It's fun to see how low you can rank the boss (whatever the name is) on the circuit race and still come 1st. Now, I think I know what you're all thinking, "Minecraft has lots of stuff you can do on it!", but really, there's not much point to the game. You make something big and grand and so what? Yay. Yeah, it's not a very good reason, but there are better games than Minecraft *cough*rockraiders*cough*. Don't lynch me. Please.1 point -

OCD and Me
Yajmo reacted to Biorune for a blog entry
I feel the exact same thing jamesster. It really frustrates me, as an OCD sufferer, when people refer to OCD as a simple tendency. I can relate to exactly what you mentioned. It does distort my thinking, and it does stop me from doing everyday tasks that should cause no anxiety at all. Thanks for backing me up on that. :)1 point -
OCD and Me
Yajmo reacted to lol username for a blog entry
While I probably haven't encountered it any more than the ordinary person in my own life, I do know what OCD can do to a person. I don't want to go into details on a public forum for the sake of the privacy of said person, but I've seen what it can cause - just how far it can distort someone's thinking, and make them completely unable to do basic tasks or interact with people in everyday conversation. Heck, it's downright scary at points. It irks me when people talk about being picky with certain things (the 'need to keep things tidy and in order' stuff) and say "lol I'm so OCD about that" when they obviously have no idea what the real deal is like, and how serious of a problem it can actually be. Even though I am the sort of person who's very picky about keeping things systematic and organized, I wouldn't call it OCD... It's nowhere near that extensive.1 point -

Calcite Copter VS Cybernetic Rock Monster
aidenpons reacted to PeabodySam for a topic
Hence why I specified the PC game. Although... to be fair, I thought about what Ben24x7 said, and I have come the conclusion that he's right. The Calcite Copter is simply not a Rock Raiders vehicle. Despite the existence of the Hover Scout, Rapid Rider, Helicopter Transport, Tunnel Transport, Small Transport Truck, Cargo Carrier, and many other Rock Raiders vehicles, the Calcite Copter is severely inhibited by its lack of necessary Rock Raider tools such as drills, shovels, pickaxes, and chainsaws. Therefore, I have decided to take Ben24x7's ever-so-constructive criticism to heart and modified the Calcite Copter. Now... it is a true Rock Raiders vehicle. Although, if you ask me, it still needs more drills.1 point
