LEGO Magazines!
Sadie Meowsalot reacted to emily for a topic
Hello! Have you ever wished you could read old LEGO magazines? Probably not. But I sure love to put old LEGO magazines on the internet anyway! I recently received a small collection of LEGO Adventures!, Bricks n' Pieces and LEGO World Club Magazin issues courtesy of Cyrem and jamesster. Only two of them have been made available in English in their entirety online prior to now, so I am pleased to present what I have for your viewing pleasure. As with my LEGO MANIA Magazine scans, I will be uploading these frequently, but probably not daily. LEGO Adventures! Racers Upgrade Pack
TheStranger reacted to Olivus Prime for a topic
Over the past week or so, I've been attempting to make a pack of skins that not only features texture corrections for two of the game's characters, but also features several classic minifigures to replace the more boring body parts (i.e. the racing suits, Majisto's body, the regular moustache/sunglasses/skeleton heads). The pack provides a corrected chest texture for Commander Cold, and textures for Black Knight that match the actual Black Knight minifigure (no more mish-mash Fright Knights and Dragon Knights parts...). This includes a new face, chest and swapped helmet colours. The MAP has also been modified for Black Knight (Commander Cold doesn't need one). Meanwhile, here's the list so far for the additional characters, check out the spoiler at the end of the post to see them in action: Señor Palomar - Amazon Adventurers Sheriff Deputy - Western Spyrius Agent - Spyrius Space Port Astronaut - Space Port (Rocket Racers homage ) ??? - Castle character The last figure brings me to a question - I wanted to use the black Castle helmet in a figure, so do you guys think I should do a Fright Knight character or a Black Falcon? I'll try and get the textures up by next week! Señor Palomar (expressions and corrected face needed): Sheriff Deputy (complete): Spyrius Agent (expressions and retextured helmet needed): Space Port Astronaut (corrected face and Space Port chest needed): Corrected Commander Cold: Corrected Black Knight (Expressions needed):1 point -
Thumper
Lair reacted to Cirevam for a topic
Thumper Prerequisites: Tool Store\Teleport Pad\Power Station Cost: 8 Ore, 1 Crystal Foundation Area: 1 tile (though the piping overlaps the adjacent square, it can be driven through) Effective Range: 2 squares away Description: The Thumper is a perimeter defense structure, much like the Electric Fence but fulfilling a different role. As Slimy Slugs are generally immune to the fence or crawl right under it, the Thumper creates strong shockwaves which scare slugs who get too close. The sound of the compressor running also annoys slugs, so it acts much like a large version of the Sonic Blaster. However, one must take care that building Thumpers next to walls may cause landslides, and they are completely ineffective against Rock Monsters. Yes, the pneumatics actually work, and it makes a decent plastic thump. I want to see a lot of entries this time, so this is why I'm posting mine now instead of near the end. I don't care about winning, I'm just trying to motivate all of you. EDIT: Lowered effective range. Three is too much as you could have one Thumper defending a large tunnel which throws it out of balance. Two is better because you still have four squares of separation between multiple Thumpers but you also can't stick it in the middle of a cluster of buildings and expect it to defend all of them.1 point -
Lego Rock Raiders HQ [MOC] 7000 parts!
Lair reacted to -DoNe- for a topic
After 2 months of building I where able to finish this giant! I don't even know where to start, it have taken so long and it have been so fun to watch it grow over the weeks (but I have to admit it got a little boring to build some of the rock sections). At some points I had my doubts that I would be able to finish it of due to how massive it was and when I constantly realized that I had to make it bigger too fit this and that but in the end it was worth it! The finished models weights in at 7,7kg (around 20 pounds/16lbs and have something between 7000-8000 parts! Sorry for the bad picture btw! by =DoNe=, on Flickr by =DoNe=, on Flickr by =DoNe=, on Flickr1 point -

The menu is cool, though the low-res textures look somewhat odd. It could use a bit more... What's the best word for it? Feedback? Some sound effects when the camera changes between sub-menus, and more of a glow on the text in the main menu as you hover over it - like the yes/no text for quitting has.1 point -

Howdy! Sorry that I stopped developing this for a while, I had some troubles with school and stuff. I am going to remake this project, since it was messy as hell. I hope that this time it would run even faster and smoother than it did before. I'd also love some tips/ideas for gameplay stuff, levels and objects (Just basicly anything that would be cool for this game.) Oh and, I need some feedback for the main menu. "Classic LEGO Games" Getting Mobile Release In Early 2014
eagleeyedan reacted to lol username for a topic
You appear to have not looked at the links very carefully. How so? Again, I might point out that there's really not much to reference when it comes to older games specifically, as the games were usually directly based off of LEGO themes that were around at the time. The Minifigures theme has throwbacks to everything from LEGO Island (the screenshot already posted and a mention of the Brickster) to Adventurers and Drome Racers and Fright Knights and Knights Kingdom and many older Space (especially Blacktron) references, LEGO Universe had Johnny Thunder, Sky Lane, a classic space world, and pieces of gear themed after classic characters/minifigures like Ann Droid and Basil the Bat Lord and Futuron/Space Police, heck, even TT has referenced classic LEGO themes in their games countless times. Space Police III was completely filled to the brim with throwbacks and nods to past space themes. I just saw some classic spacemen flashlights in a Toys R Us for pete's sake. The LEGO Movie is a whole mish-mash of past and present themes. LEGO is doing more fan service like this now than they ever have before. What on earth is there to be mad about? Oh, right, LEGO Star Wars mobile versions. News flash, the new franchise makes money like crazy, and like it or not the old games from the late 90s and early 2000s are vastly outdated both in the technology they run on and the themes they advertise. Yes, they're fun, we like them, yes, the TT formula has gotten stale, but to claim LEGO has "just completely forgotten about their past" is both factually incorrect and plain silly. LEGO puts out more throwbacks to past products now than they did in the 90s/early 2000s, and nobody complained then that they weren't getting their nostalgia fix. And hey, at this point, the early TT games are nostalgic for a lot of people, even me - time flies, huh?1 point -

The newscaster is well-groomed, as all newscasters tend to be. Too well-groomed, such that he had an artificial look to him. "Many lives were lost in the struggle, but the shrimp was eventually beaten into submission thanks in large part due to a large cache of weapons found in a nearby alleyway. We are still unclear as to how the mutation came about. It will be put into cold storage until the railway is repaired, at which point it will be shipped to Northbrook to be studied. And now the weather..." You don't need to hear to report, though. You can hear the pitter-patter on your windows and the wind starts to pick up. A storm is coming.1 point -

New version of ROCK RAIDERS - update
Ben24x7 reacted to Cirevam for a topic
The problem is that this is exactly what the Rock Raiders United community doesn't want, or at the very least that is the general attitude that many people have around here. Rock Raiders is a very casual game already up until a few levels near the end and many of the mods that RRU has made try to make the game more challenging. The core demographic for the original game was children, so that is understandable. Now, we have grown up and the majority of us are 15 to 25 years old. We can take a challenge. This makes me feel a little bit better about the situation. In my eyes, Rock Raiders was one of your best games and I have hope that you are willing to show us a game that's even better than the original Rock Raiders. Of course, when I say "you" I'm addressing all of DDI -- the programmers, the artists, the musicians, the engineers, and the leaders. I was talking to a few people about this and we're actually concerned about you developing this game on multiple formats at once. Having multiple formats means that you need multiple teams to work on each version, which splits your time and energy. If you're planning on PC, Wii, WiiU, Android, iOS, and Facebook... you're spreading your effort way too thin and the main product (PC) will suffer. And honestly, the game will end up being completely different for each format. The PC has mouse and keyboard controls which are superior to a controller (WiiU) or pointer (Wii), and far superior to a touchscreen (Android, iOS). The general attitude towards Facebook games for many people around here is negative, and I feel that you will receive either backlash or apathy towards a Facebook version of the game. We do not want Farmville Raiders. We do not want to waggle a Wiimote at a screen in order to drill a wall. Please understand this. Your trending analysts may say that Facebook games are hot right now and the casual market is something you need to capture, but RRU in general is not in that market. I don't want to speak for everyone, but I think we are looking for a game that makes us think and plan ahead.1 point -

UPDATE: The final download pack can be found >here. Click on the image for a full 1080p version. Thanks to le717 for his technical support with both modding LDD and using POV-Ray, and credit for the decals goes to LuxorV from Eurobricks. I'd really like a suitable cave background to place behind this, something akin to the game's loading screen if possible, but definitely 1080p - can anyone suggest such an image?1 point -

Scrapped Zones And More

Oh man, you guys aren't gonna believe this stuff... Tom and I talked quite a bit via email today, and Bill Benecke (the concept artist guy) got involved too. They're really great guys, both very friendly, and were happily surprised to hear the game has fans. Here's the rundown. So, I initially emailed Tom and briefed him on the game/theme's status as a well-loved classic in the LEGO community, our progress in modding it, and the various finds regarding LEGO Logic and such, and basically asked if he had any info he could add to this. Boy, did he ever! So yeah, my jaw dropped. I sent an email back, thanking him for the details, and also linking him to this and this as examples of what fans have done with the theme. He loved them, and added that he's gonna try to dig up some more LEGO Logic and Alpha Team development stuff sometime. He also had an amusing little anecdote to share: He also mentioned where some of the other developers are at now, and what their current projects are: He then forwarded my email to Bill, who added the following: And Bill's email reminded Tom of more specific details of LEGO Logic, and then things started really coming together: And finally: I'm so darn happy right now.1 point -
