New version of ROCK RAIDERS - update

One thing you need to remember with minecraft is you have a massive world but you have ridiculous amounts of common resources (coal and iron). If you don't have mods you might as well start making buildings out of iron blocks. You need to balance expansive landscapes with the amount of resources in a given area. Needing to refine resources would also help to some extent. Just something to keep in mind.

Explorer (LEGO Digital Designer file): https://www.rockraidersunited.com/files/dl-r192/ [NEWS]: (2021-10-21): With a delay of about three weeks I noticed that this thread is 10 years old XD. Let's see, if I can come up with something insightful on the spot to distract from my "perfect" timing^^: I still think that this is a cool project and I would probably do it again . With today's software and hardware that's easier to do than 10 years ago and makes you appreciate the effort that the people at DDI & LEGO put into designing the ship over 20 years ago. In regards to what I expected from making this thread/model and what actually happened the results are a bit all over the place: on one side I hoped that it would get featured on blogs and websites besides RRU and maybe even getting the attention from the LEGO Company itself, but that didn't really work out (I only remember two times, where the model was featured in a blog or video). Maybe I am too introverted and not annoying enough on social media to make the existence of this ship known to everyone XD. On the other side this thread has gotten a ton of views and replies over the last decade and people started to integrate the ship model into a game (like Manic Miners from baraklava) or game engine or make MOCs based on the digital models. Also a big thanks to Cyrem and Cirevam, because otherwise RRU wouldn't exist as a central hub for Rock Raiders related content. LEGO Racers Recreations

UPDATE: If you'd like to build these models yourself, check out the part lists and instructions I've made here. LEGO Racers Recreations The characters in Lego Racers are so great, that after seeing many pictures of people's recreations of them, I decided I had to have my own. Not just the bosses though, but all 24 racers in the game. Using jamesster's great LDD boss racer designs he uploaded, as well as my own LDD opponent car designs, I have collected the first 12 of the 24 racers in the game - all character's for circuits 1, 2, 4, and 5. I'm very proud of them, and in my excitement thought I'd share them with you First, here are pictures of them all together: More detail on the Circuit 1/4 cars: Captain Redbeard I think Captain Redbeard is pretty epic, although unfortunately due to his peg leg he doesn't sit down very well. Ann Droid This guy has the black car that several opponents share, but is still quite fun. Governor Broadside A bright character, at some point I'll replace the back flag with a 2x2 plate and a printed decal to be more like the game's one. Pharaoh Mummy I think this guy is pretty cool too, his car just seems to work nicely. Robin Hood Ah, Robin Hood, one of my favourites from the game. As his centre sloping section isn't available in green, I had to do some DIY. At first I tried dyeing it like Jamesster suggested, but unfortunately melted the bricks and the dye barely started to work - instead of trying again I figured I wouldn't waste money when the colour was darker than I wanted anyway. So I painted the parts, choosing to do all the green ones for consistency. The flash makes the brush strokes more obvious... And also the minifigure arrived with a split leg and scratches on its back, despite being described as 'good condition', but I guess that's to be expected from Bricklink every now and then. Johnny Thunder And finally, Johnny Thunder, another of my favourites. I think the game designers did well to make his car look so cool. More detail on the Circuit 2/5 cars: King Kahuka Ook-ah-ook-ook. Ook-ah-ah-ook-ah, ah-ook-ook-ah-ook. Ah-ook-ah-ook-ook-ah-ook. Achu Grrr, a chipped face (not visible here)! Well, his car is still cool. That green clip at the back, which King Kahuka also has, is only available in two sets so had to be shipped over from two different sellers in Canada and the USA, these racers are a mixture of USA, UK and Canadian blood Commander Cold Brrr, this guy's so cool. Islander Another of the black car owner's, but still epic. I kind of want to hug him. Wait, I'll be right back. Okay, next up... Royal Knight All hail the king! This guy defends royalty with a rather interesting blend of blue and red. Baron Von Baron He probably has one of the (if not the) biggest cars, suiting his villainous personality. I wonder what that replacement wheel at the back is for, it's a little too small I also have designed some dioramas to display them on, which fit nicely into my cabinets. Credit to jamesster again for the boss models: Circuit 1 Diorama The space at the back will have a tent in it, and the palm trees obviously leaves on top, I've just never owned one so don't know how they fit on Also the models won't be supported by those stands, it's just for LDD to hold them in place. I was looking for a way to have bricks floating, and this seemed the best to me, but if anyone has any suggestions involving transparent bricks I'd be happy to hear them! Additionally, the bricks will be from the original desert Johnny Thunder sets where possible (e.g. the printed tower things). Circuit 2 Diorama This one isn't as dynamic, but I wasn't sure how to make it so. The castle walls will have the brick textures. So, what do you think?

    1:8 scale LMS Explorer

This is my latest creation. It has some flaws (e.g. the engines), but it was sometimes very hard to find the right pieces etc. Otherwise I chose this scale, because it was a challenge to build a smaller version which contains lot of details too. pieces: ~5000 to ~5300 bricks (depending on the version) building time: hmm, maybe 30 to 50 hours scale: not exactly 1:8 but very close to it (~1:8,25) (compared to my 1:1 scale version of the LMS Explorer, which is 975 studs long) construction program: LDD (but I have converted the model into ldr (MLCAD) and lcd (LeoCAD) files, too) dimensions: Length: 116 studs/ 91,36 cm/ 35,97 in. Width: 17 studs/ 13,49 cm/ 5,31 in. Height: 16 studs/ 12,70 cm/ 5,00 in. Minimalist LEGO Riddles

I stubled upon this on /r/LEGO today, and thought I'd share. http://www.demilked.com/55-years-of-the-brick-lego-riddles/ The description from the article: I was going to post this in LEGO news but I couldn't. Anyway, Prototyke and I were discussing it in the shoutbox and were able to figure out a lot of them, but others escaped us. There is no answer key so far as I can tell, so there is no way of checking your answers, but these are the ones were are pretty confident about. Please help us fill out this list. If you think you know one, post it.

And the next LEGO Cuusoo set is...

Well it is certainly a nice surprise to see a non-IP CUUSOO set getting produced. Of course, despite how incredible the original model is, I am most certain that LEGO will tone down all the details and with that, erase one of the things that got this project so much support in the first place. *sigh* In other news, that background for Tim Courteney in the review looks like a LEGO Store that was converted into some cheesy evil villains lair with the red lights and all. :P

Just a low quality sketch I did of the Rock Raiders Chrome Crusher from memory [True story]. Sorry for the strange sounding name, my dad scanned this in and I forgotten to change the name so it is now stuck with the name 'KINGS011', Sorry. Anyway hope you like it.

    Mafia: The Game

Unless I say otherwise, the same applies to me. No need to ask me to be in every round anymore. Done. Also, I made an auto-registration list, so no need to ask players on that list to play every time. Anyone else want to be put on it? I don't recall any clear posts of le717 saying he was playing (only saw narrating). Well if le is playing, then that is a new player amount record.

And the next LEGO Cuusoo set is...

Well, this is... disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I love the model that won. But, part of the appeal of this particular project is the incredible attention to intricate detail achieved by unorthodox building techniques. Given how horribly butchered the Delorean was, I do not have particularly high hopes that the final product will be nearly as well received as the original model. Shame about a few of the other projects, though. It didn't help that they only had one product from three review periods pass. Particularly Space Troopers; with Galaxy Quest Squad exiting stage left at the end of this year, one would hope that there would not be a conflict of interest between Galaxy Squad and Space Troopers. As for the other projects, they're all licensed, and I'm betting that's the reason why they didn't pass, for better (Purdue Pete) or worse (Portal). Well, that means that, at the very least, we have our first non-licensed CUUSOO set to pass review. And I know some Neo-Classic Space fans are going to disagree with me, but I hope the final product has a classic yellow-skinned minifig, just to stand out from the Micro Mobs and Marty/Doc. If you are reading this, you have the sudden urge to support The Adventures Of Steamrod.

    Mafia: The Game

Suddenly, a buzzing sound arose outside of the ASC. It was the Glaciologist Drill Master, riding his snowmobile. He had been out all day examining the Great Antarctic Glaciers, watching them constantly change every day. He parked his snowmobile in a little garage the scientist crew was fortunate to have. Inside were a few more snowmobiles and a Snow Cat to haul everyone for long expeditions. Drill Master walked into the facility, and went to the change rooms to get out of his snow gear. The place was cold. To keep the building's generators from overloading, the heating system was to stay at a constant 65°F at all times. Any lower, and the crew could become sick, any higher and the generators would overload due to all the much needed equipment running off of them. Then Drill Master went to the break room to get a cup of hot chocolate to warm up. Inside the room, Jimbob was sitting at the table reading some test results. Drill Master began conversation. "Man. The glaciers out there, they're changing every day. Not like a little off the top, but they're moving. Moving fast. Antarctica is rapidly dispersing it's ice into the ocean. I can't seem to figure out why at the moment. I'm heading back up there tomorrow, but it's almost night." The crew had to remember that the days don't last long there. It was dark most of the time, so Drill Master had to leave first sign of sunlight so he could make it back by night.

    LEGO Racers Recreations

I haven't got any more photos of new racers/dioramas yet, but I thought I'd share this little gallery I made of circuit 1/4's racers. Basically, I wouldn't have built any of these models (let alone got back into LEGO Racers) if it wasn't for RRU, so I really want to be able to share them with you all as best as I can. Like the 360-degree rotations I made of my other two recent MOCs, I have taken a bunch of pictures of each model and turned it into a 360-degree gallery. The amount of pictures I took of each one varied as I started off taking loads with Captain Redbeard and gradually got more and more impatient Unfortunately, Ann Droid's photos got a little messed up in the processing so aren't great. Anyway, view the 360 degree rotation online here! (Or in the OP). System Requirements: 1024x768 screen resolution minimum (if this is your screen resolution, set your browser to full-screen) Adobe Flash Player 11.2 or higher (should be automatically updated in Chrome) You may need to wait for the images to download depending on your connection, if the screen is blank on a model's gallery then wait for a minute Click on an image to select its model, rotate the model with the left and right arrow keys, and click the yellow back arrow to return to the main menu. Enjoy! Oh, also, I scratch built myself a mini photo studio which I used to take these photos. I stupidly forgot to take a picture but will do a.s.a.p.

    The Great Kanohi Project

First, I took your advice Aidenpons and outlined the upper "eyes" more. Sorry it took so long to post the fix, but it does look nicer. I dug though my box of masks that I have yet to draw and found the Great Ruru which I didn't think I had. I still don't have the Great Rau, but at least I have 5 of the 6 Metru masks. The Great Ruru, the mask of Night-vision. Black masks are really hard to shade. Harder than white masks, but I obviously learned from the Pakari because this one doesn't look too bad. I'm not sure why he has those spikes on his head. Maybe they're used as a pick once he realizes his chainsaws don't work well on stone.

    LEGO Racers Recreations

Update time! I've finally built all the circuit 3/6 cars, and am pretty excited Just six racers left to go. Check out pictures of the individual racers in the spoiler below. Complete with TNT mounted on the back. Unfortunately the back side-dot bricks which hold the TNT aren't available in old dark grey. Black Jack Hawkins The red and blue colours work nicely, I think. Plus he has a cool parrot. Willa the Witch Another generic black car is used here, but oh well. Willa's black skirt was swapped for the legs she has in-game. I love her toothless smile Alpha Dragonis Alpha Dragonis' decals are so epic. To tell the truth, I didn't know his head was trans-orange until I bought the figure... Basil the Batlord Haw haw haw... Basil's such a legend. He and his car... so mean-looking. Gypsy Moth I'd say this is the biggest car of the lot. Rocket Racer and Veronica Voltage aside, Gypsy Moth is definitely the don. I took a couple of group shots too. Oh, last thing... I hope the photos are an improvement on recent ones, I got a new 'studio'

Finally I did it. I made a render with POV-Ray (I've also made a 16k version without anti-aliasing. I will upload the bigger files on flickr). I just had to wait untill the picture was generated (I always aborted POV-Ray, because the timer worked, but not the counter in the lower left corner (I thought, that the program maybe crashed)).

New version of ROCK RAIDERS - update

I decided to reflect on my recent playthrough of Lego Rock Raiders, and I came up with a short list of things that I wish LRR had: 1. A way to see the rate at which oxygen increases or decreases. I mean, you could count how many times you press the teleport button, but a little rate bubble that appears when you mouse over/click the O2 sign would have been great. It should be easy enough. Hell, a mod would be neat. Actually, I'm not very active here, is there a mod for that already? 2. Better AI aiming with the laser gun. I noticed that the men sometimes started to fire too far away from the monsters. 3. Electric fences OP. Nerf, plz (not really ). 4. A way to repair vehicles and heal units. I mean, I know you can teleport things in and out again, but that gets annoying. Minecraft's and the Rock Raider's world are similar in many ways from a programming stand point; they are both built using grids, each with a different type of "block" in them; in Minecraft these are, well, blocks, while in Rock Raiders these blocks are different types of walls, paths and buildings. What would be incredible is if the game world was as huge as a Minecraft world, with a procedurally generated landscape. This does present certain problems, I suppose. It could be as you mine further and further, the rate at which oxygen depletes goes up.
