Looking through rec.toys.lego, I found this discussion. LEGO Racers was evidently officially announced the day before the above message was posted, as I was able to find thanks to this. You can see the link to the article on this page (scroll down to the 9th), but unfortunately Wayback didn't archive the actual article. Regardless, the possibility remains that that guy was reiterating information from the article, which would mean that High Voltage Software was planning online play, presumably for the PC version of the game.

A bunch of the sets have been unveiled on the products page. While there isn't anything new as far as images, the descriptions have lots of interesting new information. Apparently the brick glued to Emmet is the Piece of Resistance, harkening back to the working title for the film that we heard early on. It seems that Lord Business is after the piece - at least the sheriff in Getaway Glider is not a robot, so he should be able to help Emmet escape.
