The Great Kanohi Project
le717 and one other reacted to Prototyke for a topic
I have decided to kill myself. Rather, I have decided to draw EVERY Kanohi mask. All of them. I have the names and powers for 106 109 masks (plus heads) right now. If there is something wrong, or I have forgotten something, let me know. We have enough insane people around here someone is bound to actually read through that. I plan to make at least one Kanohi a week until I have them all and then do something with them. Perhaps I'll make a poster. But it's the dedication and practice that I actually need, so I can show all of you guys my art, and in return you can all yell at me if I'm not making the masks. Every Monday (excepting times where I am unable to access a computer on a Monday) I will post the Kanohi I made the week before. If anyone wants to, they can critique it, or I will just use this as a more enjoyable reminder for myself to practice. As it is not yet a Monday, I won't post any new Kanohi, but here are the Kraahkan I made previously. Is it Kraahkan or Kraahkans for the plural? Completed Masks are displayed in the spoiler below. Edits- Added Avohkii / Kraahkan Combo mask to the list. Added Mask of Elemental power (from Bionicle: The Game) to the list. Added Kraahkan Face to the list. Do not use any of my art without permission and crediting me. Thank you.2 points -
The Great Kanohi Project

My main reason for this is to practice my detailing, shading and dedication, but I may compile these into posters or something and sell them once I have more done. I don't really have a definitive end in mind. You are right about the tediousness though. It is why I am often late, but the repetition and concretion of the goals give me a tangible goal to strive for that is more invigorating than my typical pointless fruitless drawing. Since I have missed a bit, I come this week with extra goodies. First off, I realized I probably should make a head for the masks. So I did. It's not a Kanohi, but it is now part of the project. The Kraahkan has two "faces" on one mask, so I finished the second one. I don't like this one as much, but as I did it, I realized just how inaccurate my first one was. That makes me feel good about my progress. And finally, taking the medal for the most time spent on a single mask, the Olmak. Not only is it gold, but it controls the dimensions, too. It doesn't get much better than that. And I also updated all of the masks in the spoiler in the first post. Thank you again everyone who comments on here, and thanks for putting up with my laziness and lateness. Edit: I almost forgot. I touched up the Akaku. It looks a lot better now.2 points -

/u/Radar_OReilly_AMA is my new Reddit account that I just made today so that my reddit cakeday lines up with my IRL one. I intended to post this to reddit to get all of the karma, but, IDK what subreddit to post it in. Probably either /r/gaming, /r/nostalgia or /r/lego. So yeah, as of today I am 18 and legally an adult US citizen. Also Pokemon Origins is out in English so that's cool. Gonna watch it as soon as I get the chance. Yep.1 point -

Yes, all of them in one place makes them look really nice (not that were not nice already, mind you). I should look through my masks and take pictures of them. Perhaps they can be of help to you. I own all of the masks on second row (in the spoiler on the topic post) in addition to that small golden one + a few others I'm not sure about (you have done two of them already). EDIT: You are planning on doing this guy's mask, right? Because I have his mask and Lewa's from the same area if you need reference images. Kopaka Nuva was the first Bionicle I owned, so he is special to me.1 point -

Boredom at its Finest
Wognif reacted to Masiaf for a topic
Drew it from pure boredom at school. A very seldom kind of thing for me to draw. It was the fourth and final version of these characters playing poker. Next time I get real bored at school I may make second to this seires. I've given a name to each of the characters in the picture from right to left. The Mafia The Western The Chinese The Doctor The Laughter The Hungry The British As the title says, straight up boring when I started drawing this. I still cant understand why I drew these people playing poker in the first place What is your perspective on this game that is taking place?1 point -

The eyes...the eyes.... I quite like the name "Robotina". Interesting that Alpha Draconis is given the name "Chamon"; a New Zealand catalog cover had led me to believe this was a unique name applied to the red UFO alien--er, Star Person. Now I really want to track down that catalog... TC1 point -

More petty griping suggestions: I know I mentioned hotkeys, but action groups might be something else to consider. By "action group" I mean you can set up keys that, when pressed, will automatically select user set groups of unit(s). In most RTSes, this is almost always done by first selecting the units and then pressing ctrl-# (# being a number.) When you later press the number, the units are reselected. This allows for quick control. Another useful hot key might be a "cycle view between selected units" button. I never really used the laser turrets. It was never really explained what they did in the tutorials. I guess they were used for defense, as that's what I used them for in the end. This is confusing as these lasers were called "mining lasers" not "kill things with lasers... lasers". While playing again, I found that while the mobile lasers were somewhat useful for quick defense, the stationary laser towers were easily outclassed by the electric fences in terms of defense (see comment about electric fences being Over Powered, or, in gaming terms, OP). Lasers, while having a range, being more mobile and more fun to use, were outclassed by the automatic, non-crystal using, one hit KO electric fences. On most levels with monsters, I basically surrounded my entire base with electric fences. As long as slimy slugs never showed up, my base was ensured to never be damaged. I then proceeded to expand the electric fence system outward, slowly covering most of the spawn points of rock monsters. Since electric fences did 100% damage, I was set. If electric fences are to be included in the new game, they should probably be nerfed. A simple way I can think of is limit the number of times they can "daisy chain" away from a building. This could also be a thing you can upgrade; when you first start, you can only daisy chain one extra electric fence, but as you progress, you can daisy chain more of them. Other things that could be nerfed is damage. This too could be a good thing that can be upgraded with time. Another thing that could be added as a nerf is recharge time, which, again, could be upgraded to be faster. Also, I was thinking these upgrades would be better as "global upgrades" in that buying the upgrade would apply to ALL the fences instead of having to upgrade individual fences. Also, fix how vehicles drop stuff off on build platforms. In the old game, I found it annoying how the vehicles would drop ALL their resources on a build platform, such as dropping six energy crystals when the build recipe called for only two. While on the topic of vehicles carrying stuff, is it just me or did vehicles only carry one type of material at a time? I guess that was primarily done to reduce memory use. This tended to be fine since there were only two things that it could pick up, however, if more resources are to be introduced, i would highly suggest making vehicles able to pick up multiple types of materials at a time. Also, vehicles never seemed to pick up building studs. Due to the aforementioned problem with dropping too much of a resource while building, this was OK. Also, GET RID OF THE F***ING BATS. If you do decide to keep them in, I would suggest that you have a way to repel them from certain areas because a badly positioned swarm of bats can bring construction of a vital building to a standstill due to your rockraider's acute chiroptophobia. Another use for sonic emitters, perhaps? Be sure to mention the repelling technique somewhere in a tutorial. Spiders were also an annoyance, however, since they disappeared once stepped on, it's an acceptable annoyance that makes using vehicles even better.1 point -

This happened to me too. The db.lif file is actually stored in two locations, one in the install directory and another in your AppData/Application Data directory. You'll need to delete the db.lif file in the AppData directory before running LDD, then it should work fine1 point -

Edit: I accidentally discovered the absence of color. Yaaay. Nothing big, but I do find it odd that any colorless blocks will flash when you hover over a colored block with the color picking tool. Here is a colorless block compared to a normal one: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5983956 More importantly, I think I've found someone who has created their own parts. He says that you can introduce new geometries by editing an lxfml, but it has to be done in version 4.2.5 or anything prior because every version after that will revert the lxfml geometries back to their default state. (Suggested here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=62039&st=175) Here are examples of the new parts in action:1 point -
