Intro Cutscene Mod - Paradise City
aidenpons and 5 others reacted to Jimbob for a topic
This is a modification I made to demonstrate many of the things you can do with cutscenes, as covered in my >Custom Cutscenes tutorial. It changes the 'intro' to LEGO Racers 2, where you first speak to Sparky on Sandy Bay and learn the controls, replacing it with an intro to the island in a movie-style with various camera techniques (and a suitable background song to go with it). You can check out the mod in the video below: http://youtu.be/sVz6zpMtErA Credits: - A huge thanks to le717 for recording this mod for me! - le717 combined the mod with 's >Hudless Arrowless mod, so thank you Segatendo for that - The song that is played is Paradise City by Guns N' Roses. Because this mod contains a song, uploading it would be a breach of copyright. However, other than the song, there is only one file that is modified so I'll post it below. The script below is INTRO1.TXT, which you can find in GAME DATA/SCRIPTS/SANDY ISLAND. I have commented it to some extent to give you an idea of what is going on in each section. The majority of this cutscene didn't actually take that long to produce, the only part that took hours (literally) was the small section with the Sandy Bay racers having a conversation. I tried putting them in various places around the island and doing different things, but it turned out these characters (and them alone, I'm pretty sure) are really buggy to work with as they are both found around the island and conversed with before/after races. If you can avoid using them, I would, hence why that particular section wasn't as good as the rest.6 points -

Thanks very much, that looks like it should about do the trick. I haven't taken the time to look at them in-depth yet, though I'd like to do so later. Two quick questions, though, in case you might be able to save some time: 1) How'd y'all generate these? 2) Is there a way to tell which path goes with which racer? 1) I wrote a loader for the RRB and PWB files (among others). I then wrote a renderer and glued the two together (simplifying massively here). 2) In those images, no. I could redo the renderer to render each path separately, but even then I'm not sure if there's a concrete way of mapping paths to characters. From what I recall (it's been a while), the game randomizes the paths, at least for the non-boss racer.2 points -

O.T. in this post I am expirimenting using paint and paint.net to make the panels. I'm not as good at drawing with a mouse but it is quicker and easier, so I can make panels faster. LEt me know if it looks too bad. ITEM GET! PIRATE HAT! You can now tell the two apart. YOU FIND ONE ENERGY CRYSTAL. ...and a pile of rubble. Would you like to clear it y/n? There is lava and a slug hole. The purple walls are Solid Rock, the light brown ones are dirt. There is also an E-Crystal seam.2 points -

Well, I've tried to look through every post he's made, to see if I could find that, but it didn't seem to show up anywhere. I even looked through Creator and RobExplorien's posts too (since they both did projects that depended on knowing the paths), but nothing seemed to turn up http://will.kirk.by/u/rru/images/renders/pwb_and_rrb/ There you go. :)2 points -

LEGO Racers Recreations
Brightfall reacted to Jimbob for a topic
UPDATE: If you'd like to build these models yourself, check out the part lists and instructions I've made here. LEGO Racers Recreations The characters in Lego Racers are so great, that after seeing many pictures of people's recreations of them, I decided I had to have my own. Not just the bosses though, but all 24 racers in the game. Using jamesster's great LDD boss racer designs he uploaded, as well as my own LDD opponent car designs, I have collected the first 12 of the 24 racers in the game - all character's for circuits 1, 2, 4, and 5. I'm very proud of them, and in my excitement thought I'd share them with you First, here are pictures of them all together: More detail on the Circuit 1/4 cars: Captain Redbeard I think Captain Redbeard is pretty epic, although unfortunately due to his peg leg he doesn't sit down very well. Ann Droid This guy has the black car that several opponents share, but is still quite fun. Governor Broadside A bright character, at some point I'll replace the back flag with a 2x2 plate and a printed decal to be more like the game's one. Pharaoh Mummy I think this guy is pretty cool too, his car just seems to work nicely. Robin Hood Ah, Robin Hood, one of my favourites from the game. As his centre sloping section isn't available in green, I had to do some DIY. At first I tried dyeing it like Jamesster suggested, but unfortunately melted the bricks and the dye barely started to work - instead of trying again I figured I wouldn't waste money when the colour was darker than I wanted anyway. So I painted the parts, choosing to do all the green ones for consistency. The flash makes the brush strokes more obvious... And also the minifigure arrived with a split leg and scratches on its back, despite being described as 'good condition', but I guess that's to be expected from Bricklink every now and then. Johnny Thunder And finally, Johnny Thunder, another of my favourites. I think the game designers did well to make his car look so cool. More detail on the Circuit 2/5 cars: King Kahuka Ook-ah-ook-ook. Ook-ah-ah-ook-ah, ah-ook-ook-ah-ook. Ah-ook-ah-ook-ook-ah-ook. Achu Grrr, a chipped face (not visible here)! Well, his car is still cool. That green clip at the back, which King Kahuka also has, is only available in two sets so had to be shipped over from two different sellers in Canada and the USA, these racers are a mixture of USA, UK and Canadian blood Commander Cold Brrr, this guy's so cool. Islander Another of the black car owner's, but still epic. I kind of want to hug him. Wait, I'll be right back. Okay, next up... Royal Knight All hail the king! This guy defends royalty with a rather interesting blend of blue and red. Baron Von Baron He probably has one of the (if not the) biggest cars, suiting his villainous personality. I wonder what that replacement wheel at the back is for, it's a little too small I also have designed some dioramas to display them on, which fit nicely into my cabinets. Credit to jamesster again for the boss models: Circuit 1 Diorama The space at the back will have a tent in it, and the palm trees obviously leaves on top, I've just never owned one so don't know how they fit on Also the models won't be supported by those stands, it's just for LDD to hold them in place. I was looking for a way to have bricks floating, and this seemed the best to me, but if anyone has any suggestions involving transparent bricks I'd be happy to hear them! Additionally, the bricks will be from the original desert Johnny Thunder sets where possible (e.g. the printed tower things). Circuit 2 Diorama This one isn't as dynamic, but I wasn't sure how to make it so. The castle walls will have the brick textures. So, what do you think?1 point -
Lego Time Cruisers comics
TalonCard reacted to emily for a topic
For some reason I can't help but feel my favorite part of the Time Cruisers comic in this issue is just how a black snake is incorporated as the antagonist. It's a great example of how closely the comics are sticking to what is in the actual sets - the only 'villains' in the Native American-themed Wild West sets were black snakes, so a black snake is the villain in the comic. The misunderstanding at the end allows for a more interesting danger to Tim without going outside the boundaries of what LEGO produced for purchase. Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 41 point -
Intro Cutscene Mod - Paradise City
Jimbob reacted to LimeKiller for a topic
Yes, exactly. There's a lot of stuff like that in this game, and seeing this cutscene actually happen is awesome. How much can you do with cutscenes? Can you add one that wasn't there before? Also, some races have dialogue from Sparky before them. Are these defined under cutscene files, or something different? If so, I am interested in making a mod that adds a "preview track" cutscene before each race.1 point -
Mouse-Over Game Titles
Jimbob reacted to le717 for a topic
https://gist.github.com/le717/7757998#file-checkacronym-js I made a JavaScript version. For those who do not code, it is simply an implementation idea for basis of the Jimbob's idea. While the actual code to get the text from the post content, apply any CSS that may denote an acronym and display the tooltip adds more to the script and is not present, this is basically the core of how such a system might work. The script should be able to be ported to pretty much any web language (I know IP.Board uses PHP a lot). I like how the Python version has multiple acronym's for one game stored in an array (which reduces code redundancy and possiblr errors), but I was unable to duplicate that in JavaScript.1 point -
Intro Cutscene Mod - Paradise City

If all LEGO Racers 2 cutscenes were like this, the game would be way more interesting. Good job, JJ! O.T. Next time, I'll preview the mod before I commit to recording it. I was a bit set back the first time seeing it because I did not know the song or why you were cutting to the beach so much.1 point -

It's the Spider. I've not yet figured out how to make the Spider feel right. It's something about the behavior, and how little it currently seems to add. Same with the Scorpion. I'll need to work on this more.1 point -

LEGO Racers F.A.Q

I start racers and the sounds of the video play from my speakers, but I see nothing! Or my game crashes when it should be playing videos! Or some other thing goes wrong involving videos! Well then, there's no known fix for this bug, but there is a workaround. Others have reported a crash regarding "memory drain" when videos play. Just use the aforementioned workaround, and you should be able to enjoy the game. Setup refuses to install the game! In Windows Vista: If that doesn't work or you're using a different version of Windows, keep reading. 1. le717 made an alternate installer. Regardless of the reason setup refuses to install the game, be it not starting up at all, crashing during installation, or some other thing, there's an alternate method of installing the game. Windowed mode doesn't work! You have to change your bit mode (also known as bit depth, and color mode) to 16 bits. Afterwards, it may be wise to change the bit mode back to 32 bits1 point -
