The End of an Era
Fluffy Cupcake and 2 others reacted to McJobless for a blog entry
It feels. Empty. The closing of the old Quotes topic, is rather fitting, given another thing that happened today. Had the Quotes topic not closed, I probably wouldn't even have posted this update, due to the CoS that arrived to wreck havoc on the forums. But, in the weird way that the world works, it's best to talk about it. For those that don't know, today I gave away my Xbox. Not going to say where or to who, because that's irrelevant. The point is that, as fast as things happened, internally it's weirdly been a slow process of adjustment. I think we all remember that time when we had to give up our fondest childhood toy in the process of maturity (I still loved my original PS1, too...). I think the big thing about giving up this Xbox was all the memories. Life for me, as of recent, has been getting much better. I've become more social, met more people, getting money, learning new skills and generally living much happier than previously. And, I think it's a little weird, but, there seems to be this connection between my switch from console to PC gaming. I'm not here to argue which is better, but rather to say that, I think I used my Xbox a lot more than my PC for gaming, and that might be the reason I have so many fond memories with it. I remember staring at the Xbox memory screen for twenty minutes before purging it all. Looking at everything that had been done, and would be forgotten. There's so many games I now refuse to play because all my saves have been lost, such as Trainz Simulator, where I lost this amazing world I made over the course of 3 months. It's hard to think that I might never re-experience the games I played that took me through High School, just because I lost the physical memories. Before Xbox, I had a PS1. That was it. I played some games like Ape Escape, Gran Turismo (demo), Rugrats: Search for Reptar and a few others, but generally I had very little variety. I believe I also got my first computer; an old beige IBM running Windows 98SE, for which I'd play Matchbox: Emergency Patrol and a few other low quality titles. For me, that's a nostalgic time, though. I didn't get the most amazing and brand new stuff out there. I made do with what I had, and I had fun. I think it was because I played such obscure titles that I might be as weird as I am today. The first time I saw an Xbox...its tough to place times. I think it was some time after I got my PS2, which is my favourite console of all time (we'll talk about it in some other blog entry). My cousin was now a permanent resident in Australia, and his family finally had a home and unpacked. I remember going over there, and just like we had played Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked at my house, we played Timespliters 2 at his. The Xbox controllers weren't too bad, if a little bulky, and the game was super fun. I remember staying over at his house once, and getting up early just so I could screw around with the map editor. What really caught my attention, though, was when we played Halo 2 for the first time. I was amazed. I was astounded. We first played Blood Gulch (called Coagulation in H2). The Warthog was my instant love. We played Juggernaut on Containment, and we made a big in-joke about how I would scream "THE JUGGERNAUT IS COMING" in a cowardly voice (a la "GAME OVER MAN!") whenever I thought the Juggernaut was close to the base I kept stalking (for the tank/warthog). We played on Headlong, and I remember forming the Warthog Protection Society, while my brother became a legendary sniper. Those were the days. Sometime in the future, 2007 came, and my cousin got his Xbox 360 and Halo 3. Holy. I was...it was beautiful. The graphics? The new weapons? The custom gametypes? The player customisation? Up until that point, I had never experienced ANY of that. My Windows XP machine was still too poor to handle the majority of games, and my PS2 hadn't got any new games since LEGO Star Wars II: The Complete Saga. To experience all that for the first time, it was amazing. I remember Sandtrap and just how incredibly expansive it was (and fiddling with the Elephant), before deciding to become a commentator who annoyed other players on the battlefield by asking them questions (because I was losing the game and I decided it would be more fun to act as an obstruction than a target). Hell, just like I had Halo 2, I even got to try some of the campaign out, and while I paid no attention the story, I could tell there was something good go on there. I can't remember the exact year I got my own Xbox 360. I just remember getting that awesome wireless black controller and Halo 3 Limited Edition (with the steel tin), and being the happiest I've ever been. It was true bliss. Right away I loaded up Halo 3 and put on Sandtrap, and I just lost myself in the game before looking at my Halo 3 Official Strategy Guide, and finally learning what "Equipment" was and how to use it. This is where there was an explosion of events. Things are a little hazy from here, but I remember the important things. Sometime down the track, I started to watch the Behind the Scenes videos, and I fell in love with Bungie and their team. That may very well have been the start of my dream to be a game designer (outside of Halo Gilroy which lead to me getting Halo: Custom Edition and starting to make maps). I finished the campaign of Halo 3, slightly confused, and went back to playing Halo: CE and Halo 2 to finally understand the story. I got my Xbox wired up to the net, and for a good deal of time I became one of those annoying kids on XBL. I met some awesome people on XBL, and we made some cool maps, and I also was able to get some cool maps and gametypes in return. My brother and I exploited the Halo 3 campaign, multiple times. I also pissed off my brother because my failure to understand that achievements and armour only unlock for individual accounts lead to me getting a Stepping Razor...for myself. Things went on from there. To keep it brief, I made friends, and I experience things which would change my life. I'm a big believer in the butterfly effect, and the Xbox may very well have been that tiny butterfly which changed everything. Staring at my Xbox last night, I thought about it all. And I knew that, if that's what the 360 did to my life, the kids who will have it now might too just be able to experience things they never thought possible. And that's what made my decision to wipe that Xbox clean a lot easier. In one instant, everything was gone. That Xbox didn't recognise me anymore. Right now, things are changing. I'm becoming more social, financially stable, powerful and happier. And I'd like to think that everything in my life went right because gaming helped me. And I know that, as much as I love my laptop and my old PC and the PS2, the Xbox (and Halo) really did jumpstart everything that's happened so far. I'm going to miss you, big guy.3 points -

Additional Brick Colors Mod
dy_enforcer reacted to Oboe Shoes for a topic
As you may already know, It's possible to edit the .LEB files in the PIECEDB folder to change what bricks are available in what color in any given category. (Or, by editing a small bit of binary, add additional bricks.) So for those of you who don't wish to mess with these files yourself, or if you just want a nice base for editing with some of the more common ones already there, I've compiled this little mod which will add the following bricks to your game without overriding anything: 11 new basic bricks in beige to the Johnny Thunder menu 14 new green bricks to the Veronica Voltage menu (The 12 basic brick types, plus the flag and spoiler) 1 new green brick to the Castle menu (the Castle theme flag) As for why I didn't split the green bricks up between the Standard and Racing menus, there's an unfortunate hard limit of 30 bricks per menu, forcing me to add to menus with smaller amounts of bricks. Download This is fairly basic for now, but I plan on adding additional pieces that could benefit from additional colors that I can find space for, and it's a good place to start if you want to edit these menus yourself. Remember, you can always edit these files to get any brick you want in any color temporarily, and then switch it back when you're done. I'll also look into any possibilities of getting around the limit of 30 bricks per menu, but for now, enjoy.1 point -

LEGO.jam File Extractor
LEGOPerry reacted to JrMasterModelBuilder for a topic
With some help from the file format information jamesster found on Xentax I have made a JAM extractor. For the amount of information it has to process, it's rather fast, but it will hang there for a bit as it processes all the files (so have patience). Without further ado, here it is: JAM Extractor Latest Downloads (RRU): Windows 32-bit Windows 64-bit Mac 64-bit Latest Downloads (Github): Windows 32-bit Windows 64-bit Mac 64-bit Other Links: All Downloads GitHub Repository Extract your download to find the main "JAMExtractor" executable (all files are required, do not separate them or it will not work). Usage You can run it by the command line or, on Windows, simply drag-and-drop the LEGO.JAM file onto the main executable and wait for it to finish creating a folder next to the original file. To recompile, simply drop a folder onto the main executable and it will create a JAM file. >If you have the 1999 version of the game, it is unnecessary to rebuild a JAM archive. It is possible to have the program also print the files being processed as the program runs if you add an "--verbose" to the arguments. >Still need a GUI? Check out this topic. Important Notes The LJAM file format does not allow file or folder names to contain more than 12 characters. As of version 1.0.2, the program will skip over file and folder whose names are longer than 12 characters. Thus, any files and folders you create within the JAM archive's folders that have names longer than 12 characters will automatically be excluded when creating a new JAM archive. Older versions would only use the first 12 characters of the name as the file name and would include them. Alternately, you can use the source code from the GitHub repository with a Python interpreter. As of version 1.0.2, JAM Extractor is compatible with Python 2.7 and newer, older versions are compatible with 3.0 and newer.1 point -

Racers Upgrade Pack
TheStranger reacted to Olivus Prime for a topic
Over the past week or so, I've been attempting to make a pack of skins that not only features texture corrections for two of the game's characters, but also features several classic minifigures to replace the more boring body parts (i.e. the racing suits, Majisto's body, the regular moustache/sunglasses/skeleton heads). The pack provides a corrected chest texture for Commander Cold, and textures for Black Knight that match the actual Black Knight minifigure (no more mish-mash Fright Knights and Dragon Knights parts...). This includes a new face, chest and swapped helmet colours. The MAP has also been modified for Black Knight (Commander Cold doesn't need one). Meanwhile, here's the list so far for the additional characters, check out the spoiler at the end of the post to see them in action: Señor Palomar - Amazon Adventurers Sheriff Deputy - Western Spyrius Agent - Spyrius Space Port Astronaut - Space Port (Rocket Racers homage ) ??? - Castle character The last figure brings me to a question - I wanted to use the black Castle helmet in a figure, so do you guys think I should do a Fright Knight character or a Black Falcon? I'll try and get the textures up by next week! Señor Palomar (expressions and corrected face needed): Sheriff Deputy (complete): Spyrius Agent (expressions and retextured helmet needed): Space Port Astronaut (corrected face and Space Port chest needed): Corrected Commander Cold: Corrected Black Knight (Expressions needed):1 point -

Axel's Mod 1.5 (Updated, 4/10/2015)
alan reacted to Axel for a topic
Honest question. What is something you'd like to see in a mod? Any issues in the vanilla game that would need adjustment? Right now I have several main plans to improve the mod: 15 or more biomes Spiders, scorpions, other creatures (possibly) Environmental props/scenery New maps New map selection screen Possibly new buildings/objects related to specific maps or missions Hopefully I'll get some new tutorial missions working, too, to explain the gameplay in the mod. Changing how power paths look I'm thinking of making it so that the Small Mobile Laser Cutter and the Large Mobile Laser Cutter can't cross lava. I've never really understood why this was changed in Baz's mod, and unless I was able to get a new animation for lava crossing, maybe involving a shield or something, I don't think it looks good. At the same time, I'm not sure how to make certain vehicles seem worth building, specifically the hover scout and the laser platforms. If anyone has ideas on this I could work with, it'd be greatly appreciated. As for other things, I don't want to say too much in case I can't do something or whatever.1 point -

*ahem* There actually is a story in both the manual for the game and some magazines, including at least one comic. In short, Rocket Racer got bored of being the champ, his sidekick Veronica Voltage created a time portal, and gathered opponents throughout various time periods to provide Rocket with some new competition: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/LEGO_Adventures!_Magazine_Issue_6 (Mumboking's scans, but it seems Bobafett2 stuck them on Brickipedia, which is a bit easier to browse) ... LR scene modding
Car CrazeXVI reacted to Brickulator for a topic
As you may, or may not know, I have doing a lot of modding with the cutscenes over the last couple of days (you can see a few examples on my youtube channel). Up until now I'd mostly only managed to move/remove models or change the camera. I did attempt to put a dancing King Kahuka in the Rocket Racer circuit cutscene (vid) but it didn't work that well, and that was just replacing a model, not inserting a new one. Today I wanted to try copying a model from one cutscene and inserting it into another, properly, with working textures and animations and everything, and it turns out it's not as straightforward as I would have liked. After a couple of hours of trial and error and constantly editing and re-editing several binary files I finally managed to do this: So it is possible, and now that I've done it once I should be able to do it again much more easily but it's still a pain to do. If I can work it out I'll write a post about exactly what you need to do to achieve this. I imagine we could do some pretty interesting stuff by modding the cutscenes. Has anyone else tried anything like this? And do you think it would be possible for someone with more programming knowledge than me (someone with programming knowledge) to write something that could do all the hard work for us? It's just copying files and editing the binaries.1 point -

Rebalanced Races Mod (WIP)
Jack Bluebeard reacted to James Gryphon for a topic
I >promised that I would make a topic to cover the ideas I have for this new mod concept, so here it is. I intend to make the races in LR a little more difficult. These are the methods that I've thought up to attempt to achieve this: 1) Limiting the number of white bricks in any race to 2. This will eliminate all fourth-level powerups, including the warp, and hopefully improve the degree of equality between AI racers and humans. 2) Creating new locations for all of the standard power bricks, so that each one will be accessible by an AI. 3) Making minor tweaks to AI racer speeds so as to create a consistent difficulty level within each circuit, with the races in the first three circuits being a bit easier than the second three, but about the same as each other (so Kahuka, powerup choices aside, should be almost as tough as Basil). I will need to look into this to see if this method is necessary and/or viable. As part of number #2, I thought it would be a good idea to try to give each AI racer, not just the bosses, their own distinct powerup preferences. origamiguy has stated that he believes NPC (not boss) racers follow random paths, which would derail this concept. I intend to do testing to verify this one way or the other. More information on this will follow. I'll keep y'all updated on how things are going. I may periodically post downloads so that you can see how things are coming together, and possibly provide input into the process. If so, all the links'll be here. Thanks for your time.1 point -
LR scene modding
Jack Bluebeard reacted to Brickulator for a topic
Afternoon everyone, after a bit of a break, I'm getting back into the Racers stuff. Hold onto your glitchy pirate hats, people. Apologies for the slighlty delayed reply, but yeah, I had the same issue with the collision - you drive through the walls a bit before you hit the boundary. I'll have a look into the collision stuff at some point. But for now I'm going back to the cutscenes. Here's a screenshot: It's just a modded version of the Veronica Voltage cutscene. The background is actually the test track now though, instead of the simplified model usually used in the cutscene. Obviously there's still some issues - the sky, for one, and the window and flag models are floating around in the air, but it was just an experiment. It should be pretty simple to use any track as the background for a cutscene. In fact, I reckon completely custom cutscenes shouldn't be too much of a stretch. I'll try to start updating this thread again :P1 point -

Latest build: Beta 2 (adds SKB skybox support, DirectX issues not yet fixed) Old builds: Beta 1 Requires .NET Framework 4 Make sure to read the readme file to understand the controls.
