Hey all, I just finished my own recreation of the Small Mobile Laser Cutter and thought I would share my thoughts on it. First of all here it is: Front Back (EDIT: Just noticed I forgot the yellow "V" plate on the back of the laser. oops.) Both of the models posted on this forum (by PeabodySamn and Oboe Shoes) seemed to assume the teal on the back was a solid mass, but it's actually two seperate pieces that are not attached. So what's so ming blowing about this? Well, see the gap between the laser and the chasis on the front? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I have to thank PeabodySam and Oboe Shoes though, their models helped me figure out a couple sections that were confusing me.

The last of my dioramas is pretty much finished! I have no intention on working on any more dioramas now, at least not for a long time... Anywho, as discussed in >this topic, for a while now I've wanted to make a nice display for my Rock Raiders sets. I haven't actually made much progress since then, but still a few things have been added and a lot has been rearranged. I don't want to make the paper-mache walls and all that I mentioned in the topic, but the zuzzy mats haven't left my mind yet. Welcome to RRU please don't explode on the door step, the last time a new recruit did that there was a lot of potato to clean off of the porch that and some toxic substance, which we still can't identify.

Hopefully I can update this topic soon with actual proper images. For now, this is all placeholder, but basically, for my animation assessment, I'm doing a LEGO stop-motion film. The Alliance of LEGO Rip-Off Products (placeholder) are plotting to take down LEGO and become the kings of the toys. To do so, they've stolen 3 mechs from the LEGO forces, and hired a squad of highly trained, elite warriors to take down LEGO city. Here's a very, very, VERY rough image taken with my phone, only including the mechs themselves and a few minifigures. The plan is to do a one minute, 24FPS stop-motion. If everything goes well and people like the end product, I may purchase the same equipment my college is currently lending to me, buy more LEGO and turn it into a full film or something. Let's see what happens next. Wish me luck.

Aha! We have done it! My research and Oboe's contributions have been building up to this moment! We have solved the eternal mystery with SCIENCE! ... or something like that. But yeah, the back of the Small Mobile Laser Cutter was the one thing that I couldn't quite figure out. I'm not sure why it never occurred to me that the teal wasn't one solid mass (maybe due to the in-game model cutting a few polygonal corners or something), but this certainly makes more sense. And well-spotted with the whole slider block deal. Excellent work!

Nope, the Support Station has the hazard stripes in-game as well (I used dropbox cause I know you can't view imgur.) Sorry, but for some reason I woke up this morning feeling very anal about other people getting the in-game models wrong and I don't know why. Maybe cause I just tried to build an SMLC and noticed how different mine was than the two posted here. I want to address this discrepancy between different interpretations of these models somehow, but I'm working out how at the moment.

Ah, the Power Paths! Yes, I agree, that'd look nice. Bricklink has the baseplates and tiles (for the outer glow) for not too shabby a price, maybe I'll grab some if I have the spare money. I appreciate your 'oooh'-ing and Golem-ing! As later stated, the three Rock Monsters are called Dim, Dum (yes, it's not correctly spelled as Dumb) and Dom. Spur-of-the-moment naming as I was uploading them to RRU, but I'll keep them. Haha, while I do have a few parts here and there, they are actually intended to complete the remaining structures such as the Super Teleport and Geological Center, should I ever get the urge to add more to my collection. But I highly doubt that'll happen any time soon, if I'm going to buy any old LEGO then it'll be LEGO Racers next. Many thanks to your comments too, alan! Indeed, Rock Raiders does look wonderful, especially (in my opinion) in comparison to the Power Miners colour scheme. Not too in-your-face, but bright and LEGO-y nonetheless. Oh dang, I completely forgot about getting different faces! That'll be on my order-filler parts list when I next shop on Bricklink. Inaccuracies are rife, a-yes. I know the Docks is off, but I didn't realise the top of the Support Station was meant to have a pattern? My models are based primarily on the in-game ones, not the renders that came in the manual, which for example is why the Cargo Carrier's turquoise slopes on its sides don't have the decal on them. So maybe that accounts for some of the differences. Thanks

As you might have guessed from my recent blog post, I listen to Muse most of the time.
