Letter to Microsoft from the UK Government
The Ace Railgun and 6 others reacted to le717 for a blog entry
Dear Our Beloved Microsoft, We have lots of money (no not really. We are broke, but we will act like we do by raising taxes again). Would you be a dear and extend personal Windows XP support to us, please? We were lazy and choose not to upgrade our 64,000 computers running Windows XP and ignored the fact you were discontinuing the 12 year old operating system until the last minute! We need you to extend support to us so we can take a full year to upgrade "most" of the machines to Windows 7 or Windows 8. We will pay you large amounts of money for your kind and thoughtful generosity. Affectionately Yours, The UK Government P.S. The Netherlands also wish to have personal Windows XP support. They will send their own petition. But just between you and me, darling, be a dear and grant them their request too, please sugar baby? More efficient LIF extractor
STUDZ and one other reacted to bartvbl for a topic
Hi all, I've been using jrMasterModelBuilder's LIF extractor frequently as of late, but was somewhat annoyed at its very, very high memory consumption. It made the system completely unresponsive whenever I used it, because windows likes using the harddrive to make up for a lack of memory capacity. Looking at the code of the original extractor I found out it was really easy to implement the LIF extractor myself in a way that didn't require such large amounts of memory. As a bonus feature, my implementation can also extract the contents of nested LIF files without having to extract the containing one first. I've written a little GUI around it for your convenience. Many thanks to jrMasterModelBuilder for his original implementation! RockRaiderWolf's Ye Olde Questions (and requests) Thread
McJobless and one other reacted to alan for a topic
Yes, I think so. Nope, that's not possible. Rock Raiders cannot walk "across vehicles" and buildings cannot be placed into the water. And new buttons with new functions are generally hard-coded. The Rock Raider always dismounts where the center (of the 3D model) of the vehicle is (the yellow square on the map). This would be the least problem (referring to .OL-files) Even if you were able to build bridges, it wouldn't be possible to adjust its length. Additionally you cannot walk across the water paths, they are only "energy pipes". I give you an example: Build a standard power path next to a water tile. Now you can place the Docks' water power path on the water tile that is next to your pre-built power path. The Docks' land power path doesn't need a power path then. (you can try that in "Fire'n Water" This sentence is too long for me as I am no native-speaker. But from what I said above this is utopia for us. If you want to have something like that then why don't someone you do all these things?2 points -

That's right peeps, a mod for LR2 that makes NPCs talk without the need of subtitles to understand! A test I did just to see how it would work out can be found here. People working on this mod: (ordered by when members joined project) Xiron JimbobJeffers le717 Rioforce (le's bro) Quisoves Pugnat (QP) McJobless Ben24x7 ShadowBlaze Oboe Shoes (OS) Ayliffe kajeuter Nintaga (Xiron's Sister)* Captain Kiwi (Nintaga's Friend)* Chonsy* Asterix means the person is from outside RRU. Anyone can join, so long as the following guidelines are followed. Guidelines: Recording should be in 44100 Hertz or higher (remember, just because you can record in that hertz, doesn't mean the sound quality is equivalent to it). Recording should be no less than 192 Kbps Preferred file format: .wav; Secondary preferred is .mp3. You can voice as many characters as you like. You have two weeks to voice the character after you pick it. If you need an extenion let me know with reason why. I'm not going to stop you from picking a character someone else already claimed, in the case two or more people want to do the same character, they will have to compete by uploading a voice clip of the character, with a line said from the game (I'll pick if multiple), and the community can choose who's voice they like better for the character. Please think responsibly and know if you would have a proper voice for the character before going: OHMAGAWSH I WANT TO VOICE DAT CHARACTER!!! List of Characters + Actors (yes, I pulled this from >my post in the Racers wiki topic. ) Questions and Answers: Q. What is XXX? And how do I deal with XXX when voicing the line? A. Be creative. XXX is where the player name use to be. Do your best to make sound great, and ask here for suggestions if you need any. Q. How will you deal with player references? A. We will use gender-neutral surnames instead of the name you choose for your character. Example, Sparky may call the player (XXX) buddy, and challengers may call the player newbie, and other higher rank as the game progresses, just to name a few. There are a lot more things that can be said than just these. Please avoid using "player", if you can. Q. Do I need to own the game to help? A. Nope! I can provide the lines you need to say. Just use the images linked with the character so you know what the character you are acting for looks like. Q. Can we expand or improve the lines if they are too shallow? A. In short, yes. You will have to use part of the original line though, and the majority will need to approve of the change. Note: You also have to keep within the game's targeted audience, so don't use any words you wouldn't hear them put in the game. Q. When will this be released? A. When we are done. There might be alpha & beta releases as the mod progresses on though. Q. Can you keep me updated of progress? A. Sorta. We have a completion list doc right here! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PZpHzQHTX33U31ePO4I18n-P5jxid7J-ZCTS_MshzX4/1 point -
2015 Pirates

A new contest launched on ReBrick this morning, to find the name for an upcoming LEGO Pirates ship set to be released in 2015. Read the full rules and information here. LEGO has only directly confirmed this one set so far, but the presence of a new logo seems to imply it may be part of a new Pirates theme. Sources: Eurobricks1 point -

YeeeeaaaaaaNO. That's all hardcoded. Besides, that's going to nerf the point of water. I think you can make new GUI elements, but I'm pretty sure they really don't like transparency. Ultimately, impossible. alan isn't being hostile. He's our most respected intelligence point for LegoRR and knows all too well the limitations of the engine and how slow members have been at creating custom content. He's your elder, and you should be respecting what he says. The thing is, the logic doesn't work. To make a true underwater level, you'd have to have no water or lava, you'd have to make the biome sand, you'd need to make a transparent GUI element, which even if it was possible would BLOCK the mouse clicks so the game is impossible, and all other manner of problems.1 point -

Due to April foolishness this mask is posted late. Oh well. Hydraxon isn't actually wearing a mask, so I guess this is his face... The gas-mask chin explains how he breathes underwater, but he really needs to eat. His cheekbones are a bit over-prominent. Ignoring the fear to have too many long names, we'll just say it the mask of ruining-some-random-matoran's-life-when-thier-identity-is-(almost)completely-overwritten-when-you-are-brought-back-to-life-since-you-are-stupid-and-got-stuck-in-"heaven"?-but-are-a-really-good-prison-guard-and-no-one-likes-the-pit-anyway-so-you-just-get-stuck-down-there-again. Lego Racer 1 Alpha/beta Font
Jack Bluebeard reacted to le717 for a topic
Yes, I am aware the last post was from January last year, but I found something that would make the Racers font (both alpha/beta and final) usable on computer and possibly web consumption (not that you might want to on the latter though ): FontForge It appears to be one powerful program, allowing font creation from within it, importing of SVGs, and with a separate program can even trace bitmaps and import them into a font (although nowadays you only want to use vector-based fonts). There is even a whole book on designing a font using FontForge. Basically, if AppliArt sees this message and wants to pick this back up or someone else wants to take a whack at this, I think there is a good chance you would succeed. :)1 point -
