More efficient LIF extractor
STUDZ and 6 others reacted to bartvbl for a topic
Hi all, I've been using jrMasterModelBuilder's LIF extractor frequently as of late, but was somewhat annoyed at its very, very high memory consumption. It made the system completely unresponsive whenever I used it, because windows likes using the harddrive to make up for a lack of memory capacity. Looking at the code of the original extractor I found out it was really easy to implement the LIF extractor myself in a way that didn't require such large amounts of memory. As a bonus feature, my implementation can also extract the contents of nested LIF files without having to extract the containing one first. I've written a little GUI around it for your convenience. Many thanks to jrMasterModelBuilder for his original implementation! That's right peeps, a mod for LR2 that makes NPCs talk without the need of subtitles to understand! A test I did just to see how it would work out can be found here. People working on this mod: (ordered by when members joined project) Xiron JimbobJeffers le717 Rioforce (le's bro) Quisoves Pugnat (QP) McJobless Ben24x7 ShadowBlaze Oboe Shoes (OS) Ayliffe kajeuter Nintaga (Xiron's Sister)* Captain Kiwi (Nintaga's Friend)* Chonsy* Asterix means the person is from outside RRU. Anyone can join, so long as the following guidelines are followed. Guidelines: Recording should be in 44100 Hertz or higher (remember, just because you can record in that hertz, doesn't mean the sound quality is equivalent to it). Recording should be no less than 192 Kbps Preferred file format: .wav; Secondary preferred is .mp3. You can voice as many characters as you like. You have two weeks to voice the character after you pick it. If you need an extenion let me know with reason why. I'm not going to stop you from picking a character someone else already claimed, in the case two or more people want to do the same character, they will have to compete by uploading a voice clip of the character, with a line said from the game (I'll pick if multiple), and the community can choose who's voice they like better for the character. Please think responsibly and know if you would have a proper voice for the character before going: OHMAGAWSH I WANT TO VOICE DAT CHARACTER!!! List of Characters + Actors (yes, I pulled this from >my post in the Racers wiki topic. ) Questions and Answers: Q. What is XXX? And how do I deal with XXX when voicing the line? A. Be creative. XXX is where the player name use to be. Do your best to make sound great, and ask here for suggestions if you need any. Q. How will you deal with player references? A. We will use gender-neutral surnames instead of the name you choose for your character. Example, Sparky may call the player (XXX) buddy, and challengers may call the player newbie, and other higher rank as the game progresses, just to name a few. There are a lot more things that can be said than just these. Please avoid using "player", if you can. Q. Do I need to own the game to help? A. Nope! I can provide the lines you need to say. Just use the images linked with the character so you know what the character you are acting for looks like. Q. Can we expand or improve the lines if they are too shallow? A. In short, yes. You will have to use part of the original line though, and the majority will need to approve of the change. Note: You also have to keep within the game's targeted audience, so don't use any words you wouldn't hear them put in the game. Q. When will this be released? A. When we are done. There might be alpha & beta releases as the mod progresses on though. Q. Can you keep me updated of progress? A. Sorta. We have a completion list doc right here! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PZpHzQHTX33U31ePO4I18n-P5jxid7J-ZCTS_MshzX4/4 points -

As some of you may know, I had made a comic called "The Rock Raider Chronicles" which is a series of stories that I come up with based on LRR. Well, due to my thoughts, I have decided to end The Rock Raider Chronicles as a comic, and restart it as written stories. I see myself as a better writer than drawer, and this way I can go for the Two fan fiction writer awards on the side. My first story will be what my comic started out with: "Ryley and Sam", a story about two best friends training to climb aboard the LMS Acension. I will have these stories posted here at least every three to five days, depending what I'm doing during that time. I will work on "Ryley and Sam" and hope to post it soon! THE ROCK RAIDER CHRONICLES These are the stories of the legendary Rock Raiders! Well after another month I finally have another update to this build. (Which is taking way longer than I planned.) I've gotten quite a bit of progress done since last time but there's still a bit more to do. First up I've done quite a bit of the tail section since last time. I've added the tail fin as well as the rudder control surface although the elevators are proving to be a bit tricky. The current way I have to control them isn't really working at all so I need to come up with a better way to do that. If anyone has any ideas feel free to suggest them. Looking a bit more like it should now isn't it? The wings have also been worked on and are now pretty much at there full wingspan which at the moment is about 89cm or about 35 inches. The ailerons have also been added and they actually work quite well. The entire left or right wing depending on which way you look at it. Both of the mechanisms for the landing gear and ailerons. I've also built and added the propeller which I think turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. Also looks quite good when spinning but you'll have to wait for the video to see that. Finally a view of the overall progress I've made. Really starting to look like a Spitfire now isn't it? One last thing is that I've also put in the M motor for the landing gear just in front of the IR receiver. Forgot to take a close up picture of that.3 points -

Would you be a dear and extend personal Windows XP support to us, please? We were lazy and choose not to upgrade our 64,000 computers running Windows XP and ignored the fact you were discontinuing the 12 year old operating system until the last minute! We need you to extend support to us so we can take a full year to upgrade "most" of the machines to Windows 7 or Windows 8. We will pay you large amounts of money for your kind and thoughtful generosity. Affectionately Yours, The UK Government P.S. The Netherlands also wish to have personal Windows XP support. Why can't I finish an RPG?
STUDZ reacted to Fush for a blog entry
I play an absurd number of RPGs. It's probably my favorite genre. But I can't help but notice that, despite the amount I have played, I have finished very few. A total of 4, in fact. The World Ends With You, The Last Story, Fire Emblem Awakening and Pokemon X. That's it. Now what have I played, but not completed? The first 6 Final Fantasy games The first three Dragon Quest games and DQ9 Every Single Pokemon game Every Single Fire Emblem game All three Mother games Super Mario RPG the first three Mario and Luigi games Chrono Trigger Kingdom Hearts, KH Chain of Memories, KH 358/2 Days, and KH Dream Drop Distance A few Super Robot Wars games and probably a bit more that I am forgetting. ...Why can't I finish ANY of these games? I don't get it. I love them to death, play them obsessively, then just... stop. I don't get it. The ones I finished... well, Awakening and Pokemon X were huge drops in difficulty compared to their predecessors, so that's one factor. TWEWY was simply incredible, I couldn't put it down. The Last Story was a bit eh, but I think the actiony-ness of it kept me engaged (combat was in real time) and the customisability of the armor made me obsessed with collecting new equipment. ...but these are not things unique to these games. Kingdom Hearts has real time combat, but I could never finish those. Most Pokemon games are easy, never finish those. Most RPGs in general have engaging narratives, but I never finish them. ...I don't know why I decided to rant about this out of nowhere but it's suddenly bothering me.1 point -

Hey all. This is the beginning of my latest LEGO project, A motorised Supermarine Spitfire. I'm going to try and pack as many functions into it as possible such as the rudder, elevator and ailerons all controlled from the cockpit, motorised engine (Also controlled from the cockpit) and working landing gear (Hopefully ). Here's my progress so far: As you can see I've done the very front section which also includes the engine. I still need to figure out how to attach the wings as well as how to do the landing gear. If anyone as any suggestions I'm all ears. I'll leave you with a few more pictures:1 point -

Alrighty then! For Steve-Cosmo, should I put you down as a maybe for them? Because the voices were the same. I'll either need a save or voice/video clips, since I don't have the time atm to get through the game at that stage to have a listen. Here you go sir. Guys, I can't really just put you down for 'random'. Just pick anyone, it isn't that hard and should only take a min. I was thinking of using the "Noise Removal" filter on Audacity to help reduce background noise, but if you know of anything better, be my guest at mastering them! Modulating may be good, but we'll see. Oops. I must of done that when creating the table. Sorry!1 point -

Why can't I finish an RPG?
BerixMaster2010 reacted to Jimbob for a blog entry
Maybe you just fancy a change? RPG's are quite demanding in the sense that they require a fair bit of investment. Not just in time (which can be over a hundred hours in some games), but story too, as the best of games lead to you coming to love your character and genuinely enjoying the decisions he/she makes that impact their world. Being human, we like change, experiencing new things. Some more than others - for some people, they will quite happily stick to one thing for huge amounts of time until its absolute completion. For others, they are like butterflies, as they feel restricted when tied down to one thing, preferring to flutter about freely from 'thing' to 'thing'. And there are those of us somewhere in between too, of course. For me, I will generally play a game for a few days to a couple of weeks, or perhaps months in some cases, before putting it down for a while. For example, I may play on the Minecraft server for a couple of weeks while I'm in the mood, and then just leave it for a few months. Or, in long RPGs like Mass Effect, I'll play it for a few days/a week and then put it down for a month. Our bodies can go through phases, or rather just searching for variety in our lives. Don't put yourself down for this. If you don't finish a game, it may just be that you're looking for something else as a change. Go with the flow, and if you really want to finish a game then come back to it later.1 point -

That would hurt. It's pointy. Of course you are. The bad guys are always cooler*. I don't have all the masks, so any series that only have 4 or 5 of them completed mean I am missing the others. I'd be glad if anyone who has the missing masks would take photos of them for me to work off of. If you're up to it, PM me. I'll give you details about the angles and lighting I need for it. You are correct. I often use a lighter color at first so I can easily see what I'm shading, then change it darker once I add the second scheme. Let me know if I have it correct now. The completed Jutlin: Getting that transition color is pretty tricky. You all think it's fine? *This is not always true, but usually.1 point -

Another update. Finally... Yes it's been over a month since my last update but I now should have all the pieces to finish it. Progress should hopefully be a bit quicker now. I've replaced the wheels to a slightly bigger pair as the other ones where a bit to small. I quite like the look of these. I've improved the tail a bit as well so it's now a bit stronger. I've also added a bit more to the rear elevators. The cockpit windscreen has finally been added. And finally an overall picture of my progress. I'm also planning on motorising the landing gear if I can fit the M motor in which I should be able to do.1 point -
Can't Load Missions [Windows 7]
Ninjarelic reacted to Mizuumi for a topic
Okay, let me guess, you're using a Radeon HD video card on Windows 7 64-bit and the game doesn't start in D3D HAL mode, so you're forced to used RGB emulation, the rockfall transition animation between menus appears textureless (all white) and slows your game down while it plays, and of course, the crashing that is the whole reason you started the thread. If all those things apply to you, there are a good half dozen other threads at least on this topic (and posting in one of those instead of creating yet another thread might have been a good idea) but no one seems to have found a solution yet. The game simply does not work in RGB emulation mode, and D3D HAL mode seems to be incompatible with Radeon HD cards. The only "solution" I've found is to simply switch to a different graphics card, which of course doesn't solve the core issue and isn't at all practical solution for most, since most people don't just have a bunch of different graphics cards sitting around (unless, like me, your CPU happens to have integrated graphics that you could use). Any additional information you can provide can help, but since nobody has found a solution despite the many posts on the subject, the outlook seems kind of bleak, the game just might not be compatible with certain Radeon cards, period. Oh, one thing you COULD try that worked for one person at least, is mess around with the setting in CLGen.exe (in your Rock Raiders folder, run it, change the setting, then try launching LegoRR.exe, if that doesn't work, try another setting) to see if that enables you to run in D3D HAL mode. One person in another thread claimed it worked for them but it didn't fix anything for me and not many others jumped in to share their experience with it.1 point -

Cirevam's Aeromachines
Car CrazeXVI reacted to Cirevam for a topic
Here are some Black Sect ships which are way better than previous designs I've made. The Piranha and the Hammerhead are staple ships in the huge pirating and smuggling conglomeration that is the Black Sect, but I'll save the details for later. Note that the black bar on the bottom of the Piranha is only for balance so I could get a good shot. BS Piranha - Light Scout Acmex, you can skip this paragraph by thinking of the Piranha like a really thin Loki. The BS Piranha is a scouting vessel which has a good amount of firepower for its size, with two weapon mounts and one missile bay. It's like a flying coffin though, since the pilot barely has enough room to move around inside the cockpit, so smaller species are often assigned to fly these. Its maneuverability is extremely high and it can flip around on a dime with the undocking retrorockets on the top that are conveniently not above the ship's center of mass. You can see the missile tubes above the upper guns. There are four tubes on each side for a total of eight missiles. BS Hammerhead - Space Superiority The BS Hammerhead is probably the most versatile ship the Black Sect have, mainly because of its extreme modularity. The missile pods on the side can be removed without the help of a flight crew, which allows the Hammerhead to change ordinance in the middle of a mission. Previous incarnations had carpet-bombing capabilities, but this one does not. Rather, it has a rather oversized weapon amplification system that allows this ship to have nearly capital-class firepower, but only after an extensive charging sequence. Without charging it greatly magnifies and focuses the installed weapon which leads to better shield penetration without increasing the load on the generators. You see, this is the advantage of stealing technologies from several galaxies and then cramming them into a single ship. You can see the missile pods here. No restrictions on what missiles can be loaded since custom tubes can be made to fit any missile. You could even store several types of missiles in a single pod. Woo dogfight woo.1 point -

Cirevam's Aeromachines
Car CrazeXVI reacted to Cirevam for a topic
Balanced Fighter I haven't thought of a proper name for it yet, but it's extremely balanced. Most of the generators and sensors are stored in the pontoon-like things on the back. Power is routed through the tubes towards the engines and cockpit, and since the engines are arrays of micro-plasma engines, they can remain compact while keeping the generators out of the way. Having the engines tucked into the ship like that also makes them less vulnerable to weapon fire and may lower the EM signature, but without adequate testing I can't say for certain. Also, because the jennys aren't hooked directly to the engines, if something in the back explodes there's a smaller chance that it will take out the entire ship. Here you can see the weapon mounts and missile racks. The missiles are definitely GTM-19 Harpoons, and they're triply stacked so it can hold a total of 18 Harpoons. Though it only has one forward weapon mount, I'm considering putting two small turrets on the back since there's room for them and the generators are way oversized for a ship of this size. The gigantic vanes in the middle are probably heatsinks or something, but I'm not sure what they do yet. Hooray for opening maintenance compartments! That's all for now. I'll be working on a few other ships later.1 point -
