LEGO Cuusoo Leaving Beta
STUDZ and 6 others reacted to lol username for a topic
LEGO Cuusoo is finally leaving its beta phase behind. It's being renamed to LEGO Ideas, and there's some rule changes as well: First, if a project doesn't reach 10,000 votes within a year, it will be archived, and second, people ages 13-18 will now be able to submit projects, though parental permission will be required before they can be considered in the LEGO review. For all the details, check out the official post in the sources. Sources: LEGO Cuusoo7 points -
Lego should make more Creator Games

Minifigures isn't even remotely similar to Universe. It's actually quite unique, as far as LEGO games go - I wouldn't even call it similar to Chima Online. Regarding LU - the game was focused on a demographic/age group that, by and large, neither had the skill to do much with properties or the patience to deal with finite bricks/running across the whole darn universe to buy that one piece from a vendor. From what I saw, most AFOLs who would have liked the interactive building/sandbox were turned away by it being tied to a game and having a subscription requirement. Add in the fact that LU properties were glitchy as hell (breathing on a property too harshly could lead to losing work or even corrupting the whole thing and making the property unusable, and even basic things like rotating hinges ended up not working at points)... Yeah, it's not a big mystery as to why it didn't catch on with much of the LEGO community. There's a lot more I could talk about on the subject, but I >already have.4 points -
Lego should make more Creator Games

Honestly, I'd be content if LDD had even a small, basic play around mode like LC1 did. I can get my fix of building random things in Digital Designer, seeing as it's essentially an improved Creator build mode with nearly all bricks, but I really miss the charm of watching those creations run around and do things. While I'd welcome a Creator 2, I like LDD's build mode so much, I kind of wish it would just be an add-on to that, even if it was just the basic features ported over from creator, such as moving minifigures and Drivable/Flyable vehicles. While I'd be more than happy with just that, part of me would really like to see a full-blown sequel that takes advantage of what is possible to do now. More detailed environments of a larger variety, weather, boats, spaceships and other misc. vehicles... It'd be great fun.3 points -
As I mentioned I've been wanting to try my hand at Neo Classic Space. Here is my first attempt. I present to you... ...Luke's Landspeeder with wings and a closed cockpit ...yeah. It needs work, I've already started making some changes but I thought I'd go ahead and post v1.0 anyway. Also I should mention that while it LOOKS like the landspeeder the construction is different. It's very SNOTty. ...I'm proud of those wings though. I think they turned out nice. *waits to be told what I did wrong*2 points

Lego should make more Creator Games
aidenpons and one other reacted to Jimbob for a topic
I think many people on this forum would agree that LEGO should make more any-kind-of-games other than TT ones. But they won't. LEGO games, both now and back when they were produced under LEGO Media, had to be made quickly in order to be released alongside new themes, particularly as LEGO sets generally don't last long enough to make a decent game before they are discontinued. It costs money too to make a game, and games like LEGO Racers, Rock Raiders and Creator were all produced from different companies, so as far as I know there was little-to-no sharing of assets between developers. Along comes TT games and produces something that people love, LEGO Star Wars. They then produce its sequel to complete the series. Suddenly it becomes apparent that people will continue to buy TT-produced LEGO games no matter what, and TT can reuse assets from previous games to make the development of their next game easier/faster/cheaper. LEGO has found a win-win developer who can both pump out games quickly and cheaply, while still making a large amount of money because people just keep buying them. I doubt LEGO sees any need to invest more money in other games as a result, especially if they want to avoid the near-bankruptcy they experienced before. Of course we have the exceptions such as LEGO Universe, although that didn't do so well, and LEGO Minifgures online. But that again looks very similar to LEGO Universe, so who knows? Maybe we'll see LEGO MMOGs lined out just as fast as TT games. I certainly hope not. TL;DR? Shame.2 points -

That's right peeps, a mod for LR2 that makes NPCs talk without the need of subtitles to understand! A test I did just to see how it would work out can be found here. People working on this mod: (ordered by when members joined project) Xiron JimbobJeffers le717 Rioforce (le's bro) Quisoves Pugnat (QP) McJobless Ben24x7 ShadowBlaze Oboe Shoes (OS) Ayliffe kajeuter Nintaga (Xiron's Sister)* Captain Kiwi (Nintaga's Friend)* Chonsy* Asterix means the person is from outside RRU. Anyone can join, so long as the following guidelines are followed. Guidelines: Recording should be in 44100 Hertz or higher (remember, just because you can record in that hertz, doesn't mean the sound quality is equivalent to it). Recording should be no less than 192 Kbps Preferred file format: .wav; Secondary preferred is .mp3. You can voice as many characters as you like. You have two weeks to voice the character after you pick it. If you need an extenion let me know with reason why. I'm not going to stop you from picking a character someone else already claimed, in the case two or more people want to do the same character, they will have to compete by uploading a voice clip of the character, with a line said from the game (I'll pick if multiple), and the community can choose who's voice they like better for the character. Please think responsibly and know if you would have a proper voice for the character before going: OHMAGAWSH I WANT TO VOICE DAT CHARACTER!!! List of Characters + Actors (yes, I pulled this from >my post in the Racers wiki topic. ) Questions and Answers: Q. What is XXX? And how do I deal with XXX when voicing the line? A. Be creative. XXX is where the player name use to be. Do your best to make sound great, and ask here for suggestions if you need any. Q. How will you deal with player references? A. We will use gender-neutral surnames instead of the name you choose for your character. Example, Sparky may call the player (XXX) buddy, and challengers may call the player newbie, and other higher rank as the game progresses, just to name a few. There are a lot more things that can be said than just these. Please avoid using "player", if you can. Q. Do I need to own the game to help? A. Nope! I can provide the lines you need to say. Just use the images linked with the character so you know what the character you are acting for looks like. Q. Can we expand or improve the lines if they are too shallow? A. In short, yes. You will have to use part of the original line though, and the majority will need to approve of the change. Note: You also have to keep within the game's targeted audience, so don't use any words you wouldn't hear them put in the game. Q. When will this be released? A. When we are done. There might be alpha & beta releases as the mod progresses on though. Q. Can you keep me updated of progress? A. Sorta. We have a completion list doc right here! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PZpHzQHTX33U31ePO4I18n-P5jxid7J-ZCTS_MshzX4/1 point -
A LEGO Racers board game
Seaborgium reacted to RobExplorien for a blog entry
Long ago when Explore became Duplo again and furry minifigures didn't exist I was drawing LEGO Racers tracks and made some sort of a board game out of them. I simply drew the outlines of the track design and divided the track in sections. Then with a pair of dice and pawns you'd play the game in turns by moving your pawn as many steps as the number you rolled with the dice. Ofcourse this simple concept wasn't very interesting, but I continued drawing more maps nonetheless, as I really enjoyed that, the same way I enjoyed playing them by myself by controlling multiple pawns. That was back in 2004/2005, and the map with drawings really starts to fall apart now. About five years later, I reviewed my work from the past and thought by myself how I can improve the boardgame and make it more fun/have players engage more in the game. So I came up with a new concept. First off, I drew a few (three) improved maps as the ones I had drawn earlier were often pretty clumsy looking. Below is an image of the general design I applied to these maps. Instead of sections, I used dots. All pawns start at the start-/finishline. From there on you roll the dice to see how many spaces you may move. The black dots are normal spaces, nothing special. If you end your turn on an S-space, then you may take the shortcut route in your next turn. If you pass the 'brick'-space, you receive a power-up (more info on this later), which you can keep as long as you desire. You cannot however receive another power-up when you already have one. Power-ups must be used at the beginning of a turn! Now the way I intended to make this boardgame more engaging than it was (or actually wasn't), every player would get a real LEGO (race)car composed of a standard chassis with 11 bricks each. See the image below for two exemplary car designs. Ofcourse any design is okay, providing it only consists of 11 independently detachable bricks (chassis not included). Now the way these cars work in the game is as follows. Whenever a power-up is used against a player he/she may lose bricks depending on the type of power-up. When a player is hit and can't take off any more bricks, that player will lose his/her car. From then on, every time he/she rolls the dice to advance, the number will be halved (round off when you end up with a decimal). Once the 'walking' player passes the purple area, he/she can rebuild the car. Players with a broken car that would still like to rebuild it may also use the rebuilding area. Since this boardgame is based on LEGO Racers 2, the power-up system is the same. So whenever you pass the 'brick'-space, you have to roll the dice again to see which type of power-up you will receive. If you roll X (or Y), you receive Z: 2 or 8: Invisibility 3 or 9: Missile 4 or 10: Tornado 5 or 11: Drill 6: Frisbee 7: Thunderbubble 12: Indestructible Brick The power-ups function as follows. The letter is the abbreviation of the power-up, the number tells how many bricks one loses if hit by the power-up: Invisibility (I 0): Lasts two turns. Every opponent the player passes when activated will lose his/her power-up and will be collected by the said player. If the player passes multiple opponents, he/she will only be able to collect the power-up from the first opponent he/she passed. The opponents will however still lose their power-up if in possession. Missile (M 3): Player chooses the opponent to hit with the missile. When hit, the opponent loses 3 bricks. Missile will last for 20 spaces only. Frisbee (F 5): The opponent hit by the frisbee will lose 5 bricks. Lasts for 15 spaces and only impacts at the first opponent it comes across. Drill (D 4): The drill lasts for 10 spaces and hits every opponent in its way, with each opponent losing 4 bricks. Tornado (T 0): Is left behind at the space the player is on at the beginning of his turn. The tornado will last for two turns. Any opponent crossing the tornade will lose his/her turn in the next round. The said opponent may however complete his/her turn. Thunderbubble (Tb varying): When activated, all opponents within a radius of 7 spaces around the player will lose bricks. Opponents in a radius of one space will lose 6 bricks, two spaces 5 bricks, etc... Opponents in a radius of 6 or 7 spaces will both lose 1 brick. Indestructible Brick (Ib 7): Every opponent on the board loses 7 bricks. Lastly, here's an image of a started game between two generic players on the Express Delivery track. I have never actually asked anyone what they think of this concept, but I dug it up from my archives and wonder if there is anyone that likes to give his/her opinion on this? Would it be something to post an image of the aforementioned clumsier drawings?1 point -

Lego should make more Creator Games
Seaborgium reacted to Quisoves Potoo for a topic
While a modern day Creator would be wonderful, I doubt LEGO has much motivation for doing so after the way most players treated the LEGO Universe building system. Admittedly, the building system was far from perfect, but most players did not seem to have the patience or skill to even create a decent facade. Most properties, if they had anything, consisted largely of pre-built models and a few shoddy originals. They didn't need to be this way. Properties like Flambridge's Dragon Knights Castle and SamuraiMaster's Knight's Tournament demonstrated what could be done with raw building, and the behaviors system allowed for far more complexity than I ever saw it used for. Might players have been more patient had LEGO Universe only consisted of properties? Perhaps. However, they had pre-made worlds and quests and battles to claim their attention. The same goes for the videogame market: LEGO can make much more money from a game in whose world the player merely participates than from a game in which the player makes worlds.1 point -

I have a lot to say about the movie, most of which was already touched on. So I won't say much. BUT, We've all seen Benny's Spaceship, right? I looked up the "LL-929" seen on Benny's ship, and look what I found: Look familiar? Now, who built the white MOC? Why none other than Mark "I-Killed-Teal" Strafford. So three guesses as to who built the official set here. And the MOC was built almost five years ago. Wanna see more of the MOC? HERE YOU GO. I just thought this was very interesting. Yea...... Wut? I caught Bionicle (the first year. McStudz will like that) and Fabuland. In fact, Fabuland was on the screen when Lucy said "and the ones to avoid". Again, the entire audience laughed at that, but I think was more "oh it's what was on the screen when she said it" rather than that and considering what Fabuland was. The adults that were present (and obviously there were many) were also truly LOLing. The lady one seat apart from rio was probably the loudest one there. "Babe, if this relationship is going to work, you have to let me go party with strangers when I feel like it." OUCH MY SIDE "I'm just a blind old man who can't see." Yup. That's Morgan undermining every "voice of authority" he has ever done. Amazing. Also in that scene, when he said "Meet me upstarts in 30 seconds", the text at the bottom of the title card said "Copyright Octan Title Card Group". Speaking of title cards, I did not expect those. I think they worked. And Octan cows? EDIT: Who sat through the credits? We stayed until the very end. We were the last ones to leave. It seems the animations at the end were real brick. That was a nice touch. I see a Blu-ray disc of The LEGO Movie in my future... and I did not make that up. ooooOOOOooooo I'll say it contains spoilers. There's a lot of1 point -
