    Ah Metadata...

Apologies for replying to a very old thread gents, came across this while checking out some old reviews. As jamesster mentions above I did a track for LR2 as well as SFX for Lego Island II. WaveConvertPro was a tool in use when I arrived at Silicon Dreams Studio, as I recall there were two specific qualities that it was considered good for. The first, was the ability to link properly with 'Waves' sound processing capabilities, they were considered excellent professional plugins at the time. The second was the power and adaptability of the batch processing tools. A lot of the work at Silicon Dreams Studios was concerned with their football titles - UEFA Champions League and Dreamcast Soccer. Due to the 'commentary' soundbites, as well as standard sound FX, these games had several hundreds of individual clips, some of them needing clever concatenation and naming conventions so you didn't get lost all the time. WaveConvertPro was great for this. As for usage in the title above. We were given a damned small amount of memory for the soundbanks, 4MB as I recall. WaveConvertPro would definitely have been used to reduce the sample sizes. The tunes were actually created using the now defunct MS DirectMusic system, which I adored. Usually used for music that adapts, it was used in this case to deliver straight tunes to final product. Steve M

    Brock Raiders

Make your Raiders look like Brock. Sorry, I had to. Download (Alt) To install just merge the 'Data' folder with the one in the LRR directory. You need to extract your WADS first as with any mod. Not guaranteed to work with other mods. If this breaks your game please return it for a full refund. I have no idea what I am doing.

    10244 Fairground Mixer

I was hoping to post a news report for this set this morning, but I'm cramming to get stuff done before leaving on this trip and simply didn't have time. So here's the press release. It's a new Creator Expert set revealed at the Sydney Brick Show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOGKb0sLTPA You can see more pictures on Brickset and Eurobricks. Sources: EurobricksBrickset

"Ah yes, 'reapers.' We have dismissed that claim." "But I have video evidence right here." "It's shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from having seen quite a few shops in my time." "Damn. And this was my favorite shop on the Citadel too."

    A LEGO Racers board game

The Minifiguris Fabulis has evolved from the Minifiguris Brickana, as well as the Minifiguris Minifiguris (also known as our beloved minifigure), caused by multiple chromosome abrickerrations. The two different species coëxisted for roughly a decade. As Darwin described it as a 'survival of the fittest', the Minifiguris Fabulis went extinct due to their furryness and the vast domination of the set territory of the Minifiguris Minifiguris. To summarize, the figures used in Fabuland belong to the same genus as the minifigures but are not classified and also not considered as the Minifiguris species. So no, furry minifigures did not yet exist at the time I implicitly referred to in my blog.

    LEGO Racers Recreations

UPDATE: If you'd like to build these models yourself, check out the part lists and instructions I've made here. LEGO Racers Recreations The characters in Lego Racers are so great, that after seeing many pictures of people's recreations of them, I decided I had to have my own. Not just the bosses though, but all 24 racers in the game. Using jamesster's great LDD boss racer designs he uploaded, as well as my own LDD opponent car designs, I have collected the first 12 of the 24 racers in the game - all character's for circuits 1, 2, 4, and 5. I'm very proud of them, and in my excitement thought I'd share them with you First, here are pictures of them all together: More detail on the Circuit 1/4 cars: Captain Redbeard I think Captain Redbeard is pretty epic, although unfortunately due to his peg leg he doesn't sit down very well. Ann Droid This guy has the black car that several opponents share, but is still quite fun. Governor Broadside A bright character, at some point I'll replace the back flag with a 2x2 plate and a printed decal to be more like the game's one. Pharaoh Mummy I think this guy is pretty cool too, his car just seems to work nicely. Robin Hood Ah, Robin Hood, one of my favourites from the game. As his centre sloping section isn't available in green, I had to do some DIY. At first I tried dyeing it like Jamesster suggested, but unfortunately melted the bricks and the dye barely started to work - instead of trying again I figured I wouldn't waste money when the colour was darker than I wanted anyway. So I painted the parts, choosing to do all the green ones for consistency. The flash makes the brush strokes more obvious... And also the minifigure arrived with a split leg and scratches on its back, despite being described as 'good condition', but I guess that's to be expected from Bricklink every now and then. Johnny Thunder And finally, Johnny Thunder, another of my favourites. I think the game designers did well to make his car look so cool. More detail on the Circuit 2/5 cars: King Kahuka Ook-ah-ook-ook. Ook-ah-ah-ook-ah, ah-ook-ook-ah-ook. Ah-ook-ah-ook-ook-ah-ook. Achu Grrr, a chipped face (not visible here)! Well, his car is still cool. That green clip at the back, which King Kahuka also has, is only available in two sets so had to be shipped over from two different sellers in Canada and the USA, these racers are a mixture of USA, UK and Canadian blood Commander Cold Brrr, this guy's so cool. Islander Another of the black car owner's, but still epic. I kind of want to hug him. Wait, I'll be right back. Okay, next up... Royal Knight All hail the king! This guy defends royalty with a rather interesting blend of blue and red. Baron Von Baron He probably has one of the (if not the) biggest cars, suiting his villainous personality. I wonder what that replacement wheel at the back is for, it's a little too small I also have designed some dioramas to display them on, which fit nicely into my cabinets. Credit to jamesster again for the boss models: Circuit 1 Diorama The space at the back will have a tent in it, and the palm trees obviously leaves on top, I've just never owned one so don't know how they fit on Also the models won't be supported by those stands, it's just for LDD to hold them in place. I was looking for a way to have bricks floating, and this seemed the best to me, but if anyone has any suggestions involving transparent bricks I'd be happy to hear them! Additionally, the bricks will be from the original desert Johnny Thunder sets where possible (e.g. the printed tower things). Circuit 2 Diorama This one isn't as dynamic, but I wasn't sure how to make it so. The castle walls will have the brick textures. So, what do you think?

    Ah Metadata...

Metadata is wonderful. It helps us know what are songs are, what bitrate our videos are, and the titles of both video and audio, as well as other things which I cannot name right now. But metadata can also be used against someone and something company. I was converting the Racers 2 music to put on my mp3 player the other day (since they are just .wav files after all). And what I found in the metadata of every last one of them was very suprising. I, and many other people, would assume that the music in LR2 are the original music files. And by original, I mean straight from the editing program into the game. But I've found out that they are not. How? From the metadata. (That was unnecessary. I've already said that, plus you should have picked that up by now. ) If you load any piece of music from LR2 into an audio editor (I use Audacity for every audio job I do) and export it to another file type, you will find three fields that are not normally in metadata: Year, Copyright, and Software. The menu.1 file was created on 5/30/01 @ 14:50:09 and the copyright is, of course, Attention to Detail Ltd. But the Software field is what caught me. The software used to create the music tracks is called WaveConvertPro. A quick search of this progam led me here: http://www.sonicspot...convertpro.html The real site is still up, but there is no program page or download for it because of the type of program it is. The site says that WaveConvertPro "is a sophisticated batch audio-file conversion and enhancement utility. The software can be used to convert between file formats and apply Waves Native plug-ins to achieve more accurate, delicate and natural sound. Apply EQ, reverb, compression, gating, bass enhancement and much more to get the best sounding results. WaveConvert Pro also allows you to dramatically improve the quality of audio files while making conversions." It goes on to say that the program supports AIFF, ASF, MP3, RA and WAV files. Pretty nice program, don't you think? Audacity can do all that plus more, and for free. But if you keep reading, you will see that the program costs $300, $100 as an upgrade from WaveConvert. And the only requirements for it is that you run Windows 95, 98, or NT4. Well, is that it? No. The program has a demo, but it "disables the "Convert" function and displays a nag dialog on start-up.". What does all this mean? It means that the music from LR2 was converted to the final format using this $300 program that runs on Win95/98/NT4. Granted, ATD could have used this program for it's other games, but if they bought this program just for LR2 (and maybe DR. I keep hearing the music from it is the same format as LR2, but I can't get my hands on the raw files, mainly because I don't own the game, and I can't find download links anywhere), that was a waste of their money. And that is how metadata can reveal a lot of info on one company.

Twitch Plays Pokemon (And All Hell Breaks Loose)

http://www.twitch.tv/twitchplayspokemon This is purgatory. The Catholics were right, plain and simple. It exists and the Internet is living in it. THE INFINITE MONKEY THEOREM GIVEN LIFE AND IT'S HORRIBLY GLORIOUS. This "Social experiment" involves some coding, an emulator, a Twitch livestream, and everyone's sanity as the Internet goes forth to complete Pokemon Red by inputting controls via chat. Sounds like a fun time, right? Well, it's not that simple. There's about a 20-second lag between text and input, meaning that "a" you entered may release your starter. OH WAIT THAT HAPPENED. PLUS, this hellish ordeal attracted the attention of MILLIONS, and currently has 60,000 ACTIVE VIEWERS, able to say "down" as many times as they want. This stream has gathered a lot of attention, from Reddit (obviously) to Tumblr, with groups fully devoted to the tropes and incidents of RoboRed and giving life to many frequently used things (like the Helix Fossil). It's a madhouse. AND WE'RE FIVE DAYS IN. Stay away from this stream if you value your sanity. In fact, don't even read this post, just report it, shred the evidence. Gouge your eyes out. Burn the servers, KILL THE INTERNET. ALL FOR THE GLORY OF THE HELIX FOSSIL, PRAISE BE TO HIM FOREVER AND EVER UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START UPDATE: It appears that now there's a vote to see which direction the player will move in. Seeing as we've been in Silph Co. for almost a day, this COULD mean progress. UPDATE 2: The Road So Far. Click the link below VVV

And you think LEGO Friends is bad?

Then what I've got to show you makes even LEGO Friends look sophisticated! WARNING! THIS BLOG POST MAY HAVE SIDE-EFFECTS ON THE READER, SUCH AS EMBARRASSMENT, RAGE, LIFE-LONG SCARS, OR ACTIONS YOU MAY REGRET LATER ON. You have been warned. 2 days ago, rioforce was trying to find a set number so he could try to build a set that is in the big collection of bricks he bought the other month. He found it, but also found a brick that had the same number as the set. Nothing unusual, it happens all the time. However, the brick he came across was absolutely nothing like the UFO he was looking for. What you have just seen is brick #6975, Scala Toilet Seat & Lid. Produced only in 1997 and released only the the Salmon color, it thankfully was released in one set, and one set only. And what that set? LEGO Scala 3242, known simply as Bathroom. [insert comment about glass house/invisible walls/a bathroom in the middle of a field/lack of privacy here] And you thought dressing up Olivia to look like all the other Friends was horrid. :P
