Film Accurate MetalBeard
ProfessorBrickkeeper and 6 others reacted to emily for a topic
I've seen a few attempts to recreate MetalBeard's film appearance around the net, but they've all fallen short of total accuracy by a significant measure. I looked back through the film and determined all of the differences, created an LDD model, ordered the parts I needed, and got to building. And the back There are a ton of minute differences between the film version and the final set, so I won't attempt to cover them all in text. Suffice to say most of the changes seem to be in the interest of stabilization and economy of parts. His right foot, peg leg, and back are the only parts constructed completely differently, but there are tiny changes throughout the model. If your interested in seeing everything in more detail, here's the LXF: This is the link to the LXF I just mentioned I believe I used the wrong color for the light grey parts in the LDD model, my bad. If you want to try your hand at building the model physically, note that there are a few parts that don't exist in the correct colors. The gears atop MetalBeard's shoulders should be dark grey, but only come in light grey. The chain from his chest to his shark arm should be metallic. I'm also fairly certain that the brackets holding his treasure chest are supposed to be gold. And that's all there is to say, I suppose. Enjoy!7 points -

DDI looking for help for Rock Raiders 2 (Rock Raiders inspired title)
ExtremeDude2 and 2 others reacted to StewartG for a topic
I have had to deal with a number of personal problems, and trying to get and keep the team together, I have decided it would be best to remake the core Rock Raiders 1 engine, with all the modern compatability, HD graphics support, win8 etc, and add MOD features, so our 'basic none lego © models can then be replaced by Fans MODDED vehicles and creatures. This would be a great start and the new features can be in a later version. I will add some obvious improvements like improved AI.3 points -

Suggestions posted in this BZP topic will be passed along and considered for the 2016 lineup of games. Seems like a good opportunity to make it known to TT that something a little more innovative would be appreciated, even if the likelihood that anything will come of it is probably rather small.2 points -
A Little Social Experiment
The Ace Railgun and one other reacted to McJobless for a topic
If as many as possible could quickly participate in this to the best of their ability, that would be fantastic. What I want to know is your experience of a video game you recently played. Please jot down a few paragraphs of what you remember. How to format your response: I'd like to see it in the form of a short story, as if you were writing a diary based on your exploits within the game. I'm sure almost all of us here have written our own stories, so do exactly that, except this time it'll be a first person story based on you playing this video game. You don't need to cover the entire story of your experience if you don't want. Just a few paragraphs of your most memorable moments in the game (be those cutscenes, boss fights, crafting, walking around town, glitching the game, menus etc) are enough. I want to know what you liked and didn't like, as well as what was neutral or boring. If you remember it happening, tell me. Rules: DON'T DO ANY RESEARCH! I want to see what you've retained at the end of your experience. Be as specific as possible where possible. I want to any and all the details you can provide. Feelings and thoughts are just as important as physical facts. I want to know how you felt, as what kind of thoughts and logic was going through your head during the entire experience if you can remember it. Be as casual as you want. Don't try and treat this like it's a formal essay. It's more important I get your honest and relaxed thoughts. Make it very clear whenever you lost immersion. Also, subtle things like how you refer to the player character. Were there moments when you and the player character were one and the same, but other moments where you were yelling at the player character for not doing what you told it to do? You can do more than one game if you'd like. Don't forget to tell what the game was, how long you think it took you from start to finish (of you first playing it up until you quit the game forever) and how long ago you played it. Thanks.2 points -

New version of ROCK RAIDERS - update
The Ace Railgun reacted to StewartG for a topic
Thx MADMAN for the video, I'd like to explain the problem, if you have a small drill that removes say 5pixels of rock, then you get a gap that is 5 pixels wide, if you need twenty pixels to fit a vehicle through, then the player has to dig in four places wide to make a tunnel big enough to fit through. Imagine as he moves across to drill one of these 5 pixel sections, that he moves just 4 pixels across, that will result in the gap being only 19 pixels wide, this can happen anywhere down a long tunnel, or worse at a curve or bend, so when you vehicle tries to fit through it works fine for some distance then part of the way down it gets to a 19 pixel wide section and it will catch on the side of the tunnel by one pixel. Its probably not so bad for a small vehicle getting stuck in a small tunnel, but imagine you have a huge vehicle 500 pixels wide and it can't get through a tunnel because it is only 499 pixels wide, you will be looking at it and thinking it should fit through. Getting stuck is annoying and frustrating for the player, so its a better game design, to make gaps bigger than the sizes of the vehicles, so we standardize vehicles into set sizes, small medium or large, and only create gaps that are (bigger than) small medium or large, basically we dig out 'blocks' so paths line up, and the player doesn't get stuck - or at least it is obvious that they will, or will not, fit in a tunnel. In the video, you can see that the developers have coded it so you can't create rocks less than a certain size - the size of that pinnacle. That is their 'minimum block size' and any thing smaller than this 'explodes into rubble', this prevents thin slivers of rock being created, however the tip of that sliver in a tunnel, would still prevent a large vehicle getting though. its just a question of how small a block size you want to goto. Currently the AI is served out on the first come first served basis, so the nearest Rock Raider, doesn't get the job, just the first in the line for new orders, I can see that checking the list of available orders and matching these with all the possible tasks, would improve the AI, these could be handed out more appropriately, and we should also add in outside influences, like monsters, so the nearest or best suitable will respond and then delegate their order back to the list for another RR. This is very possible. At the time, too many AI checks would have slowed the game down, but with modern processing power this would be easy.1 point -

Since there's allot of story, i decided to split the stories into chapters and put them into spoilers. Warning, spoilers for the game! unless you already played it or don't mind being spoiled, i would recommend not reading past the prologue! I played Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon from start to 100% completion a few days ago for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have not played any other Far Cry games, so the game I would compare it to is Just Cause 2, an open-world regime-change shooter. Blood Dragon is 1st person, I prefer third person. I actually got nauseous a few times from the motion, generally after a few hours of play. There's a lot of great humor in Blood Dragon, although the things your character says when he's stealing cyber-hearts get repetitive after a while. The gameplay is fun - you shoot stuff, mostly robots/cyborgs, and they shoot you. My favorite way to kill enemies is through the melee attack. A really convenient feature of the game is the self-healing ability, which allows you to heal yourself partially, no matter where you are. Obviously doing this while being shot at is a bad idea, but if you can take cover for a few seconds, it's really helpful. The difficulty curve of the game is a little off - the open world bits are pretty easy, although the hostage rescue missions are also easy to mess up - but the most difficult level is in the middle, and the end of the game is actually fairly easy. This is because you have to fight two Blood Dragons at the same time - Blood Dragons are basically dinosaurs that shoot lasers, and they are ridiculously strong unless you have the Killstar (which you don't at that point) or an explosive sniper rifle (but in the confined space in which you have to fight them, the weapon is a lot less useful). After that, there is one more somewhat difficult level where you fight hordes of the running dead (zombies created by...something, I'm still not sure what), but I didn't die once there. This is because you can dive into the water, and while there are one or two crocodiles, all it takes is rapidly pressing one button (randomly selected by the game) to kill them. The running dead can't follow you there, so it gives you a chance to catch your breath and move to the other side of the map. Also, the hardest running dead fight is the first one in the level, because you get a pistol, which is next to useless if you aren't getting headshots (which isn't hard, but which is easier with the laser assault rifle). When you beat that, you get the killstar, which kills anything other than a Blood Dragon in one hit, and kills Blood Dragons pretty quickly. It eats at your life, but not very quickly, and it shoots a laser continuously, so it's really easy to aim. Because of this, the final level was really anticlimactic - you invade Sloan's (the big bad guy) fortress to prevent him from launching rockets filled with zombie juice and have to kill hundreds of soldiers (not all at once, though), mostly from the front, but it's not too hard with the killstar. Then you get to ride a blood dragon with a mech suit (which only responds to the killstar), but you don't take any damage in there. It's fun and you get to kill a lot of guys, plus rockets, but your performance there, as far as I know, has no effect on the game. Then, you meet up with Sloan, who kills your mecha blood dragon...and then it's a cutscene for you. Seriously. The final big bad is killed in a cutscene. In Just Cause 2, the you fight Panay in a ridiculously epic battle which takes you soaring on nukes being aimed at the world's superpowers...but in Blood Dragon 3, you just watch a cutscene. It's cool, but extremely disappointing. The cutscenes in general aren't the greatest, due to the fact that they're done in a retro-ish 2D. They're not awful, but I think they would be better with a different 2D style. The freeworlding is fun, although limited - Just Cause 2 has a much bigger island and a few more types of things to do. Also, there are only 6/7 vehicles you can drive, even though there are also golf carts, supply trucks, and one or two other vehicles around the island...they're just unusable. The driving in general is awful. Also, it was irritating trying to go up hills, and the climbing didn't work well on rocks, which I would expect a cyborg supersoldier to be able to handle. Still, negativity aside, I loved the game. It was entertaining and funny, and the game's open world bit wasn't stretched out with endlessly repetitive bases (in Just Cause 2, there are hundreds of villages, a lot of towns, and a ridiculous number of military bases to take over - it's fun, but really repetitive, with a few exceptions). It was a bit small, and there were one or two issues, but it was a fun game that I would recommend to others.1 point -

Everything is cool when you're part of a team! Yep! That's right! I finally saw The LEGO Movie! Now... There is only 1 thing I really hatted about TLM... That I didn't see it sooner! Okay so, being totally honest, this movie made me feel... enlightened? Inspired? Happy? AWESOME?! Really, I had a smile on my face the entire time I watched it. It's the kind of movie that I needed. Possibly the inspiration I needed for what I do in life. It's also made me see LEGO in a whole new way. I've had a large crate of bricks in my closet that I haven't touched in a few years to be honest. I think it's about time to open that crate, dust them off, and just start building. So yeah, I finally saw The LEGO Movie, and I'll probably watch it again tomorrow! Also expect to see more builds from me in the future.1 point -

[7/2/2014 6:56:24 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: For whatever reason, now I'm really interested in learning American history. [7/2/2014 6:56:47 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: But before I do that, let me tell you what I know of American history so far. [7/2/2014 6:57:54 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: So, in like 1600s or 1700s, a bunch of British people said "Let's not go to Australia, too many cunts there", so they packed some ships and sailed to where a bunch of other sailers had once explored. [7/2/2014 6:58:55 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: So, there we groups on the East Coast and then some morons in Viriginia, and the morons in Virigina pretty much all died because they were morons. Meanwhile, the group the East realised they didn't like tea all that much so they threw a lot of boxes in the water. [7/2/2014 6:59:22 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: And thus the Tea Party was born, and now American's will throw their tea boxes on the ground every year at the same time. [7/2/2014 7:00:12 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: So anyways, this lead to a lot of talking and arguments and some fighting and eventually some fat guys signed some Delclaration of Indepndance that meant they give the English the bird. [7/2/2014 7:00:49 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: So the English said "f**** this noise" and ran off and the newly formed Americans then elected their first president, Captain of the Morons George Washington. [7/2/2014 7:01:26 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: So anyways, people did some exploring s*** and they started colonising the rest of America and accidentally kill off all the natives because every had the flu. [7/2/2014 7:01:38 PM] Will Kirkby: AMERICAN HISTORY TLDR: [7/2/2014 7:01:43 PM] Will Kirkby: EVERYTHING WAS AND STILL IS f****ED [7/2/2014 7:01:50 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: At some point down the road this one guy wanted a train track. [7/2/2014 7:02:28 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: So he made some law thingy that created Nebraska and the other one, and then people were doing stupid things regarding slavery, and then a big civil war broke out. [7/2/2014 7:03:16 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: So then all of the Confederates who enjoyed giant monster trucks, shotguns and cheap beer fought the other people who enjoyed long walks on the beach and being right. [7/2/2014 7:03:45 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: The other people won, and there was much celebration involving cheap beer and long walks on the beach. [7/2/2014 7:05:25 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: So then nothing happened for a long time except for the gold rush which made people move around a lot since they couldn't find any jobs, a bunch of presidents dying because public healthcare doesn't exist in America, something about the depression because people who run the stock exchange aren't actually good at math and then 9/11. [7/2/2014 7:05:30 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: The end. [7/2/2014 7:08:35 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: If I wrote this on one of your history tests, how would I score? [7/2/2014 7:21:27 PM] Philip: Cheap beer and long walks on the beach [7/2/2014 7:21:49 PM] Hugh Wotmeigh: [7/2/2014 7:33:26 PM] Jamesster: that was amazing [1:09:48 PM | Edited 1:10:13 PM] Jim Brickkeeper: Brickipedia is the LEGO community equivalent of a bunch of cannibalistic hobos cooking each other around a garbage can fire at a gas refinery.1 point -

Plot twist: The actual reason for the problems of the LMS Explorer wasn't some stupid asteroid field*. No: in reality Chief was too stingy** to repair the reactor/ whatever system with real replacement parts and instead used random parts (for example from the canteen) before they explored space. Therefore the shield broke down, when the asteroid hit the ship and finally they landed in another galaxy. That's also the reason, why there isn't a canteen as a regular building: they were used to "repair" the ship. *although using a broken Game Boy or a printed brick as a navigation computer isn't a very smart idea in the first place **even duct tape was too expensive for him1 point -

New version of ROCK RAIDERS - update
StewartG reacted to Agent Arrow for a topic
Really, I think I agree on that front. I'd like to see something based around the mechanics and general idea of the original game, but more up to snuff with today's games. I, for one, would be glad to see this separate from Lego. Being a separate entity allows the developers to pursue a more mature audience which is something I would LOVE to see happen, something with more action, deeper strategy, more combat, etc. A few years ago I had toyed around with some drawings of what RR would look like as a 1920's near-steampunk mining operation as opposed to a sci-fi interplanetary mission and liked the results. That's a direction that could create a cool final product. I know I'm starting to ramble now, but if it's going to be based on the original, what about making it truly interplanetary? They could add a mechanic that allowed for the mining of multiple planets by dividing up your raider groups or something. Really, I feel like we could be a prime resource for the developers. They could take a NFS: World approach and use us as a control and suggestion group to determine what players of the original game would like to see in a new version. </ramble> Edit: One more thing I would really like to see is "enemy combat prioritizing". I can't tell you how many times my little Rock Raiders have gone off and ignored the rock monsters / slimy slugs immediately surrounding my base in an effort to hunt sleeping monsters on the other end of the map. Some sort of intelligent threat assessment would be greatly appreciated, so that they know what to attack first in order to minimize damage to RRHQ.1 point -
Your Username
aidenpons reacted to Brickulator for a topic
I've had a few different usernames on LEGO sites over the years. "Brickulator" is of pretty obvious origins. I think the first time I actually used it online was 2007 when I joined iB2. I also took the "ulator" from that name and reversed it to create "Darth Rotalu" back when there was a Star Wars mafia game going on. Brickulator was the name I used on Eurobricks as well. I used the name "The Brick Bandit" in reference to the sig fig I was using at the time. "The Brick Bandit" is where the name of my lego youtube channel, tbb586 comes from. 'But what about the 586?', I hear you cry! Well, when I created my second lego.com account about 10 years ago (my first was just my initials and a number), I wanted something cool and Bionicle-y, so I picked "Kanoka". Obviously, it was already taken so "Kanoka586" was suggested and I took it. So that's where 586 comes from. When I joined BZP I wanted a slightly more original Bionicle-y name. Can you imagine showing up at BZP with a name like Kanoka586? So I used my ever-popular name-reversal method to get "Akonak" and spliced it with a reversal of most of "lego" - "gel" - to form "Akonak Gel". That's it for the LEGO-related name, I believe.1 point
