Zephyria: I've been a member of this community for too long. MaelstromIslander: all sanity is lost. Alcom1: Right. The next person to use a sanity quip is going to be strapped to a rocket and fired off in a random direction, and I mean perfectly random. That's a 50% chance that the thing will launch while facing the ground. jamesster: let's surround the launch site with brick walls The Ace Railgun: And lasers, don't forget the lasers. : Don't forgot to build a roof over the launch site. Seaborgium: What I would do would be to dig out a large spherical volume at the center of the earth. Launch the rocket from the center(I'll figure that out later) and that way, which ever direction it goes is "up". aidenpons: well that escalated quickly5 points -

Models and textures (Research and Tools)
McJobless reacted to maver1k_XVII for a topic
Some of you may already know from my posts in the "Game Archive Extracting (Research and Tools)" topic that I was working on scripts that would allow to view and extact the models and textures from Bionicle: the Game. Well, I think developed them to the point where I can make a public release. The model script became quite complicated with all those "Choose the model" things and the way I made the whole choosing process is not the best, but I think it's bearable. You can find the scripts here: https://mega.co.nz/#F!go8SGQZC!Xk3MTMLc-AlIAUYI3mT3Hg I've explained how to use them in the Readme file included in the folder above. Model script is currently v0.1 beta Texture script is currently v1.0 Here is a research I did on the game's resources: If you have any issues with the scripts - feel free to ask me . Oh, and also I don't remember if the models of turaga Matau, Onewa and Whenua were in extras, but I can't find them anywhere. The same goes for Onu matoran. If you happen to find them or any other interesting model/texture - please be sure to post it there .1 point -

Alright, more times! Well, keep at it and you'll eventually catch up to aiden's level of expertise! You have a fairly decent starting time too, espesially with Lilac. When first creating the competition I was like: I should let people decide their character choice for speed. But then I was like: Oh, but Lilac is easier to learn for speeding, so Carol will be left in the dark. LET'S FORCE BOTH! > If push comes to shove, maybe, just maybe I'll revert to first thought.1 point -

I haven't been posting here as I wanted my times to be under 4min for both of them. (I had been pretty much speedrunning since I got the game as their isn't much else to do ) BTW, the top one is Lilac and the bottom one is Carol. > Muahahahahaha... Also, to all your people who think "Hmm, I might try this:" One: When you get the demo, READ THE README. It has a lot of stuff on special moves that will save you a lot of time. Two: Look at other people's speedruns to see what you can improve on. (A lot of the ones I googled were the 1.6 demo in which the invincibility powerup was OP and the bosses were EASY; make sure you're looking at the 1.12 demo, which as is of time of writing is the one they have on their main download page). Three: Don't just launch straight into speedrunning. The Academy gives you a good bit of practice with stuff (no, so far there isn't anything in the levels about jumping on horrible thing platforms inb4 Xiron says 'Actually....' so that's all fine) and it's very good to run around on Dragon Valley just exploring so you get a good idea of the lay of the land. And all of you should play this game. It's very good, and as I say to my friends: The sooner you get the demo and try the game yourself, the sooner Xiron and I will stop ranting at you about it. except that Cyrem has a banhammer... and my friends don't....1 point -
Wot I Fink: What Can I Learn From Zoe Quinn & Depression Quest?
The Ace Railgun reacted to McJobless for a blog entry
Let's just get down to this in dot-point form. I'm barely in the mood for writing, but I want to get my thoughts out now. Depression Quest showcases the entirely wrong way to make a game that is supposed to bring awareness to a significant health issue. Depression is very serious, and it's important people seek treatment options where possible. Normally, just like you would have seen with Coming Out Simulator, the developer makes a nice, small, personal game that is very engaging and relies on the age old "Show, don't tell" principle, so that the audience can come to the conclusion themselves, feel smarter for it, thereby making the message stick. Depression Quest did not do this at all. It is a poorly designed interactive fiction that has attempted to brand itself as a video game, while failing to uphold the tenants of any video game. It is nowhere near engaging, and actually makes me despise the main character and their struggle, as opposed to Coming Out Simulator, where I was VERY moved by the events of the plot. As a common courtesy, do not take advantage of your partner in any relationship for your own game. The fact she cheated on her boyfriend (I'm sure he might not be completely innocent, but nonetheless) with at least 5 other guys is absolutely ridiculous, and it doesn't matter who you are, whether you're some random on the street or a world famous actor. The idea of being in a relationship is that you can trust your partner, and breaking that is a serious breach of any ethical code. If you engage in any form of social media, don't be a f****ing dickhead and use death/rape/other serious threats, personal insults, pull personal information or so on against a target or their family/friends. You have the right to voice your opinion, but you should not (and probably don't) have the right to be an absolute prick to anybody about it. You may not understand this, but there is a person behind that monitor who will read those messages, and just like if you received the same level of hatred, they will suffer from it. If you are a journalist and you know you have any form of bias towards something you are prepared to discuss, unless you're in some form of debate or you make it clear that you have that bias (and maybe let people know where the bias stems from, such as playing a game franchise since childhood or being friends with the developer), you should make it a must to remove yourself from reviewing or discussing the content. We right now are plagued with journalists who have significant biases, are not telling people, and allow those biases to shape the content that is published. It is a breach of free speech, and it is disrespectful to your audience. Furthermore, the developers who rely on the reviews as a means to get feedback on how to improve their games will suffer if you give them straight As, as they will never grow or learn and will continue to make mistakes. If you do not play games, do not study games, or have only the most bare-bones relationship with games, you can only provide a very narrow scope of opinions about games. Until you are involved in any part of the industry (from player to developer), understand that your agendas may not be valid due to misinformation, and that you honestly should be discussing and focusing on issues that are closer to your personal interests, be that music, movies, politics, war etc. Men and Women think about fundamentally different things in different ways. The games industry has been a male-centric industry for its entire lifespan thus far, but we are now reaching a point where more women are entering and bringing new opinions. We absolutely need to have a fair discussion about these issues, but we must remember to be respectful of each other, and know that there thousands of developers out there, making thousands of games, so that there will always be a game to fill every certain niche. We don't need every game to do the same thing, and that's okay. It's okay to have games for entertainment and games for education. It's okay to have AAA titles and indie titles. Let's be mindful that we are a community of many different ideals and interests. The use of parody, deconstruction, humour and sarcasm is generally to allow for discussion of serious issues. It's a way of brushing out the harshness, and allowing for people to look at the issue in a much less negative light, and hopefully reach a more peaceful communication line. We all need to understand that life is not about being safe and ignoring the "dangerous" topics, because if we do not, life will become a more dangerous place. The issues presented by this entire scandal have to be discussed. We need to reach conclusions that will hopefully better the industry. It has pointed out flaws, and it is time to take a serious look at these flaws and reach a means of solving them. Aside from a few egos, nobody has anything to lose from this communication. There has been a blatant stream of miscommunication and wrong facts in almost all areas of this entire situation. Everything from the people involved in the sex scandal to the semi-related Phil Fish/Polytron dox. It is massively confusing for the majority of people (myself included) who don't religiously follow the entire Internet during this time of "crisis" to see a line of "facts" with fictional evidence and no real supporting claims, and this creates a lot of fallacies during the ensuing arguments. If you are going to have a major opinion in this, please do your research. I'm sure I had more, but I'm going to stick with this for now. I've bounced between "sides" during the past 7 days, but right now I'm going to stay neutral, because in the end it doesn't really affect me as much as I thought. I'm going to make the games I want and I know will actually both engage and teach players, monitor and plan out my social communications, and I'm going to keep my professional relationships separate from my private relationships. Those are really the key lessons to take away from this. Be mindful of your actions, be respectful, but also don't ask to sweep the issues under the rug. It is clear that, in the aftermath, problems inherit within gaming media and the player community have become apparent, and we need to work together to solve these issues.1 point -

On it. Thank you It's amazing how many people attempt to talk about trending topics like "feminism" and "sexism" and apply it to games where it doesn't actually exist until people start picking on little details. If you pick on everything in small detail, everything will have some sort of problem, but if it doesn't suit the current agenda or have any benefit to them, it won't be discussed. Click baiting is at an all time high with headlines at the moment using these words. There seems to be a new attitudes of, if a woman says it, it must be right and any sort of disagreement from a male with them is seen as an attack and oppression because "misogyny".1 point -

If Rock Raiders 2 was developed, what features would you like to be added?
aidenpons reacted to Cirevam for a topic
Maybe making boats not useless in general would be a good start. Currently all you need to transfer a base across a body of water is a Tunnel Scout and two ore. Then drop a Tool Store on the other side and magically pull crystals out of that. Tool Stores in the new game would have to be completely separate, then they'll be useful to haul materials and vehicles.1 point -

I'm not sure you actually read Alcom's post. You seem to be under the impression that it's a one-off "quip", which it isn't. You're saying Alcom is taking something too seriously, while you seem to taking it more seriously than him. I'd rather not have a topic derailed - whether it's by somebody pointlessly goofing off around the forum, or by another person trying to dive into an off-topic conversation that's already been resolved when they don't seem to know what's even going on. MaelstromIslander and Quisoves, respectively: Don't continue to do pointless stuff that you know has been gradually irritating the community, and don't enter an off-topic but finished conversation you weren't involved with when you're apparently confused on what it was even discussing. Stop that. Whats wrong with saying that alcom? I don't see any actual issue with saying that. 1. I do not like the label's implications. It is an opening for a whole slew of unfunny shenanigans, that are then excused for the reason of "we are insane". 2. At its best, Rock Raiders United is not "insane". At its best, Rock Raiders United is inquisitive, a hub for exploring classic LEGO games and improving our understanding of them. At its best, Rock Raiders United is intelligent, filled with talented individuals who further our understanding of classic LEGO Games and our ability to create new things from them. At its best, Rock Raiders United is creative, and with the tools and information gathered from its intellegence, it can produce some amazing things. At its best, Rock Raiders United is mindful, its members are careful and understanding with what they say and what they create. At its best, Rock Raiders United is funny, not insane, but funny, as in actually producing comedy. One does not imply the other. At its best, Rock Raiders United is united, functioning as a team to produce amazing things. Rock Raiders United is not going to achieve its best through this doctrine of insanity.1 point -

Well, that's a start. A start. It takes a lot more than no previous experience and a few sprites to go somewhere. If you're seriously considering becoming a sprite artist, my advice to you is to spend as much time as possible developing your skills. Create brand new sprites for existing games (there's plenty of old and open-source games that still use sprites), maybe even create mock projects.1 point
