Hello! I made some new textures for LEGO Racers and I want to share it. It's Rhoda Hogg from LEGO Island. Install Instructions: Nothing Special. Just copy the files to your PARTDB-folder. NOTE: The Rhoda Hogg.zip includes two helmets: Blue (like LEGO Island 2 and LEGO Island Xtreme Stunts; I also used it on the pictures.) and red. (like LEGO Island.) Enjoy it! Rhoda Hogg.zip4 points -

Thank you, jamesster. EDIT: Read this edit because aaaaaaaa LEGO Friends was originally being developed by Darwin for LEGO Media before it was handed over to Ivanoff, and was called Klik Chix. This means that other LEGO Media titles may have had their roots in Darwin projects. EDIT part 2:3 points -
Project Darwin and LEGO's First Steps into the Digital World
Lair and one other reacted to emily for a topic
If you haven't yet had a chance to look through Brick by Brick, the recent book by David C. Robertson, I highly recommend it. Amongst other things it deals with LEGO's first forays in the digital world, through internal project they titled Darwin. According to the book (to the best of my memory, I don't currently have access to it to check), Darwin began when a Swedish man paid a visit to LEGO HQ. He insisted that he meet with Kjeld, and eventually got his wish. What he had to share was a highly impressive 3D animation featuring LEGO spaceships. The goal of project Darwin was to create a complete library of digital LEGO bricks, perfect in every detail. Then, to use these bricks to create a system for developing videos, games, and any number of computer-based paraphernalia LEGO could wish for. After many years of testing and playing with numerous concepts, and huge investments on LEGO's part, the company realized that technology was too limited to get them where they wanted fast enough. In addition, the employees on the Darwin team were being perceived by others to be receiving special treatment from the company, creating an ugly divide that made cooperation difficult. In 1998, LEGO Media was established, and quickly replaced Darwin and all of LEGO's ambitions related to it with a new aim of outsourcing to other companies to produce games. But that isn't why I'm here, posting this topic. I'm here because someone on the Bricklink forum just linked to The LEGO Movie - not the upcoming feature film, but what appears to be the original animation that inspired LEGO to launch Darwin. This animation, then, is the basis of everything LEGO has since done digitally. But that isn't all. Here is a window into some of the work that went on during the days of the Darwin project.2 points -

Yeah, that LEGO Friends stuff caught me by surprise. So far I've only read the first 15. What interests me the most so far is their plans for Dynasty/virtual world type stuff: http://www.spu-darwin.org/galapagos/gtv1r12.html Also: http://www.fullframestudios.ch/CV/Alex_Furer_CV2011_08.pdf Hoping for more on that when I read the other issues. Edit: http://www.spu-darwin.org/galapagos/gtv1r17.html It's been a while since I've played with the LEGO Technic Turbo Command CD, but I don't recall the backstory with the evil doctor ever being mentioned in the final product... http://www.spu-darwin.org/galapagos/gtv1r26.html More info on Dynasty's TV feature.2 points -

Blockscape

It's like Minecraft, but with better graphics, and you are not restricted to the same one sized square cube, there are also slopes, and you can paint the blocks, all of which are definately useful for when you want to be creative and build nice things. The world is infinately generated proceedurally, like Minecraft also. If the idea of Minecraft interested you, but got turned off by the design and graphics, then you may just want to check this game out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4C8NaO1XBs If you want to see more videos check out the dev's Youtube page. Personally the only thing that doesn't look appealing to me is the design of the people. For a very unfinished game, everything looks amazing. Yes this game is on Steam. I really want this game now.1 point -
The unnessessary blog post about how to make toast in secondary school/high school
STUDZ reacted to Ben24x7 for a blog entry
Ever get annoyed by the fact when you arrive at school you either; "Accidentally" brought butter or forgot the ham and cheese then there is a way you can still make the next best thing (well, 'next best thing' for some people); Toast! Here is the easiest way to make toast during school time, wether its lunchtime or that you happen to be in a science classroom at time of realisation; 1. Find a science classroom (unless you already are in one), chemistry will do. 2. Locate the nearest bunsen burner. 3. Set up the bunsen burner as necessary and then grab one of those metal things which hold up the Test tubes. 4. Clamp the toast to the bit on the metal thing which grabs the test tube. 5. Switch on the bunsen burner and begin rotating the toast so all sides are toasted. 6. Oh fudge! The Toast burned up into a crispy black square. Lucky you have an extra slice of bread. 7. Set up again, but remember to put the Bunsen Burner on a low flame when you turn it on. 8. Begin rotating the toast again 9. SUCCESS! The toast is ready to have butter applied! 10. Take the toast off the metal grip thing on the other metal thing. 11. Run to the cafeteria and steal a small knife (they have LOADS of the things anyway) but if they are closed at the mo' then run to the Art Department and take a Craft Knife instead. 12. Open the cartridge of butter 13. Spread the butter onto the toast using the small knife/Craft Knife. 14. Your toast is done! 15. Realise that your Science teacher is glancing over at you. And my doesn't he/she look stern.1 point -

Wonderful new videos. I can't get over how unapologetically silly everything is in the presentation. That trailer for the virtual reality simulator is just flat-out ridiculous, in the best of ways. And David Legoman just signs off the show by singing "Go, go, go go lego" to himself like no one thinks its wierd when you sing to yourself on live television. Also, it looks like the falling bricks intro we all know from the LEGO games was originally animated by the LEGO Wizards, as opposed to Mindscape or anyone else (as might have made sense considering its first official appearance was in LEGO Island). And Kjeld doesn't seem to have a solid response in mind when he is asked why LEGO is bothering to do all of this in the first place. I guess that is a bit of a foreshadowing of the company's misdirection of their energies with this project in the years to follow (though of course everything came out well in the end).1 point -

LEGO Arctic Diorama
aidenpons reacted to Jimbob for a topic
As with the Rock Raiders theme, the original Arctic theme released by LEGO in 2000 was one of my favourite themes growing up with LEGO and toys in general. So when it was re-released in a shiny new less-blue-more-orange outfit, how could I resist making a new diorama?* This diorama contains all five main sets, as well as one of the two limited releases, packed into one tight space under my other dioramas. The floor is made from foam rather than LEGO, in fact I think it was some kind of non-irritant insulation foam or something from an attic that was cut out and spray-painted (a couple of bugs were caught in the spray unfortunately and had to be dug out). Additionally, I added some of my own parts that were mainly bought from a Pick-a-Brick in my local LEGO shop. Here's the main view of this awesome snowy scene: And spoiler'd below are additional pictures. *Someone can probably quote me saying that, after seeing The LEGO Movie, I was going to stop making dioramas. Well, I enjoy dioramas. And I enjoy LEGO. So I figured I'd just take the best of both worlds - I don't stick big 'NO TOUCH' signs on my displays, rather I'm happy for other people to fiddle and play with them, and for me to just look at them.1 point -

Nevertheless: Thanks to your post I have a new idea based on the path finding issue. btw: Shall I redo some of my older comics? I have only redone No. 1 many months ago, because the original looked really bad, but I am not sure about the other ones. (Oh no, I turn into George Lucas! Special Edition Comics everywhere ! I'm glad you did, I very much hate inaccurate information being spread. I want these models to be as accurate as possible, and that includes being corrected when I do something wrong Eventually I'll organize this thread and when I do, I'll be sure to use the correct version. Sadie pulled some strings and got a better picture from someone who owns the sets. And here it is edited with the names in English: Hot Air Pelican really threw me for a loop- it doesn't even make sense! But I'm 90% certain it's correct. In addition, here's a (very low res) picture of the instructions to build the Hot Air Pelican1 point -

Lind Whisperer reacted to PeabodySam for a topic
I had actually built the alternate models from the Rapid Rider and Kabaya sets, but forgotten to post them! For the most part, they match up with what you have (although, for the first Rapid Rider model, I used the 1x2 slope bricks included in the set in place of the 1x3 slope bricks pictured on the box). However, I must respectfully point out that your alternate model for 1277 Drill Craft is slightly inaccurate. The saw pieces are what attach the "headlights" to the craft, like so: Yes, those holder bricks hang off rather haphazardly, but according to the official image that's how they're supposed to be, blame LEGO, not me. So the Rock Raiders Kabaya sets have combiner models? I suspected as such, Kabaya tradition and all, but I can't find any good pictures of them, or else I would have loved to try building them myself. In fact, the only picture I could find is this one... which, I suppose, if I squint my eyes enough, would be manageable, but first I'm curious to see if there's a better image available. Also, while I'm here, in addition to the Rapid Rider and Kabaya alternates, I also had the three alternate models for the Hover Scout sitting around on my computer. Seeing this topic pop again made me feel motivated enough to post them:1 point -
