BIONICLE: The Prophecy of the Hype.

So, I did this WAAAAY back when the first blurry black and white image arrived, but I never got a chance to upload it on DeviantART. Seeing as Lego has now 'accidentally' confirmed it's return, I thought it would be an appropriate time to post it. Also, I'll try to get part 2 done ASAP. Anyway, enjoy! (and yes, I know I just copied and pasted the description from deviantART, but I couldn't be bothered to reword anything)

Well I've decided to record a video of my times... it's not on YouTube because I'm poor I don't want to get involved with Google... I'd be fine with just a YouTube account... (if you have any other suggestions for video hosting, just rant at me any way you choose)... So here it is. EDIT: File removed because I don't have that much space on my file sharing system. (If you want the final times go down some posts) It's still the same time as above:

Run LEGO Racers 2 and Drome Racers with Extracted Archives (And no CD on LR2)

For an automated way of doing this, check out this topic by origamiguy. Wouldn't it be nice if we could MOD LEGO Racers 2 and Drome Racers without rebuiding the GAMEDATA archives every time we want to see our changes? Surely the developers worked this way, but allas, they hard coded it into the executable to only look for file in the GAMEDATA archives. But what if there was some way we could change that? Some way we could just change that hard-coded variable and put the games file loading module into developer mode rather than release mode? Today, I am pleased to to say this is possible and easy! NOTE: There is a version of Drome Racers this will not work with. It the the Older, DRM version described here. This is because the code that needs patching is encrypted with Safedisc. Step 1: Download a hex editor. If you already have one, go to step 2, if not, really any hex editor will work, but I often use HxD. Step 2: Go to you LEGO Racers 2 or Drome Racers install directory. Step 3: Make a backup copy of the game executable, then open the executable in your hex editor of choice. Step 4: Open you hex editor's search feature. In HxD, it's under Search > Find. Step 5: Make sure you are set to search hex values. In HxD this is done by setting Datatype to Hex-values. Step 6: In the search box, enter the correct string for the game you are editing below: LEGO Racers 2: Sources: 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 B8 03 00 00 00 C3 Drome Racers: Sources: 26 00 B8 03 00 00 00 C3 And search, you should only get 1 result. Step 7: Within the bytes you found, replace the one that is "03" with "00" being careful to overwrite and not change the size of the file. Step 8: Save the file. Step 9: Extract the GAMEDATA archive using UNGTC if you have not yet done so. Step 10: Within the extracted GAMEDATA folder find the folder named "GAME DATA" (mind the spaces), select all of the folders within and copy them. Return to your game installation directory, open the "GAME DATA" in this directory (again, mind the spaces, though the capitalization may be different) and paste the folders you copied, merging the folders if prompted. SUCCESS! If you have successfully completed the steps above, the game will no longer read the GAMEDATA archives, but instead use the extracted files. There is no need to remove the GAMEDATA archives, it will not even try to open them if you patched the game correctly. Additionally, LEGO Racers 2 will no longer require the CD in the drive (presumably it will no longer load the files in the "language" folder on the CD either, but that shouldn't impact the game). If there is enough demand, I may make an automatic patching tool later on. Technical Notes (Feel Free to Ignore) The actual command we are patching is "B8 03 00 00 00 C3", which pushes an unsigned integer and then returns it. The value of 3 is release mode, the value of 0 is developer mode. There are two other intermediary levels in between which are some strange hybrid between the two. This sequence of bytes appears multiple times in the file however, so our search must be made more explicit.

    Shadowblaze - City Depths

Another loop! Why do I do this stuff? Because I love video game music and I want to learn making them well. This one is inspired by Ratchet & Clank, as usual, and it has a mysterious feel to it. This music is called City Depths because I had a picture in mind of a disastered suburban (literally) area, I think the slowness, tension and undergroundness (literally, again) of the tune helps with the devastated and dangerous scenary I was thinking of. The music loops at 2:52. Kinda long for a loop, but the longer the better I guess. http://youtu.be/HZBvecddF_w Listen on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/c24dubstep/c24-city-depths

The Fall of the Slender Man

WARNING: OPINIONS INCOMING I just posted this on another forum, and since i took the time to write it up I figured I might as well share it here as well. Here goes. When you were a child, what were you afraid of? The dark? The boogie man? Monsters under your bed? Of course you were, all children are. While your specific fear may have been different, you still feared something. It could be specific, it could be abstract, but it was there. It lurked in shadowy corners, behind shower curtains and under beds. Something was out there, something was after you. Why? What did it want? We didn't know, and it didn't matter. It wanted to "get" us, and that alone was enough to scare us all. Now, what does this have to do with the Slender Man, you may be wondering? EVERYTHING. First of all, what is the Slender Man? I'm sure you all know, but I'll go over the basics anyway. He is depicted as an unnaturally tall, unnaturally thin man in a jet-black suit. His arms are not normal arms, usually replaced by waving tendrils. And he doesn't have a face. This last detailed has become his most defining trait but is also one of his most overlooked, because there is a reason behind it that most people miss- but that's not really important now. He stalks children and kidnaps them, and has been known to prey on lost travellers in remote areas. The character first appeared in a series of photoshopped images made for a 'paranormal photoshops' thread. There were other impressive shops in the thread but the Slender Man quickly eclipsed them in popularity. What did these photographs depict him doing, that could be so shocking? Nothing. Nothing at all. He merely stood in the background while other things were happening in the foreground. Which is how it should be. See, this is what made the character so great originally- he didn't do anything, but he was always there. Always waiting, always watching. He was, through and through, the very embodiment of a child's fear. He was the boogieman, he was the monster under your bed. He was the thing that went bump in the night, the creature in the shadows waiting to 'get' you. His generic, nondescript appearance, utter lack of motivation, and general vagueness of the character made him essentially a blank slate onto which we could project our own fears and insecurities- and it was terrifying. Unfortunately, what was is not longer what is. So after the original 'shops, a few other people got in on the action making their own images with the character, and each one was better than the last. Unfortunately, as the library of images grew larger, more people started to notice, and a terrible thing happened- he grew a fandom. And nothing ruins a great story like a terrible fandom... You ever read fanfiction? It's usually terrible. There are some good fanfics out there, but in general fanfiction is poorly-written and fails to capture the spirit of the franchise on which it is based. Now imagine an entire franchise that consists of nothing but fanfiction... yeah, that's what we're dealing with here. The issue is, most people don't understand why the Slender Man is scary, so they try to make him scary, which actually works in reverse. They stick him in with insane cults and supernatural phenomena and other 'scary' stuff, and it only hinders him. Someone made a GAME about the character, which features him actively chasing you. Which is not how it's supposed to be. He's supposed to follow without chasing, staying in the background. If you're running from him, that's a problem, because you know were his is (behind you) and what his is doing (chasing you). Suddenly, it's not as scary. You know what the issue is and what to do to solve it (run). Not knowing where, when, what and how is much, much more frightening than anything any writer can come up with, because we will fill in those gaps with whatever we fear the most. The best part of the character was his vagueness, and that is slowly withering as his 'fans' continue to try to define his traits, motivation, abilities etc. We've now got a split between two extremes, those who take him way, way, way too seriously, and those who can't take him seriously at all anymore. The latter group has reduced what was once one of the scariest things on the internet to a laughingstock, a punchline at the end of an overused joke. Granted, some of the stuff is pretty hilarious, but it still makes me sad that this is what the Slender Man has become... though it's not as bad as the other group, who goes around stabbing their friends because they worship the character as some sort of god. There's nothing I or any of us can do except hope that the fandom dies and the character either is forgotten or returns to his previous state... Fandoms. Will they ever learn? Leave the storytelling to people who actually know what they are doing.

    BIONICLE RETURNING 2015

It took me much longer than it should have to figure out that this was an extension of the hype train metaphor. I'm cool with BIONICLE doing new stuff and refreshing itself and evolving, but at the same time I like to hold on to my illusory predispositions and believe that old BIONICLE is objectively best BIONICLE. The congnitive dissonance leads to me attempting to ironically mock myself whenever I talk about my Bioniclepinions. In short, my opinions are wierd and as a result nobody understands what the heck I'm trying to say when I post in this topic because I'm a crazy person. ANYWAY, I'm digging the new mask design in the thumbnail image and hope that it is an indication that the gold mask on the display was a stand-in from before this new one was finalized. Either way, the mask looks to be the 2015 story's McGuffin, making for an interesting fusion of 2001 and 2006 story concepts.

    BIONICLE RETURNING 2015

That mask looks like they ran out of ideas and ripped off Sauron. I'm now interested, but I'm climbing aboard the 'meh' train. It's got pretty good lodgings, but you get your money back if the train doesn't reach its destination. Plus, if you're not happy with the destination, it'll take you to a new one. Plus it's really easy to get off, given the slow speed it goes. [/WhyDidIExtendThisMetaphorToTheBreakingPoint] But I am interested. Not so much in the plot, but more in the quality of the sets. Last time I checked, Pereki and I were sharing a cabin, so I'll talk to him about it. The first sets had more of an emphasis on Technic: they had TECHNIC on the instructions! But when was the last time you saw gears in a Bionicle set? The last ones were (in NZD) a dollar per piece!* And the Muaka is my favourite. I still don't understand how it works. And the Manas... despite one motor playing up with rechargeable batteries they were the pinnacle of Bionicle. Ok, that's an overestimate, but SOMETHING has to be the pinnacle, no matter how low it is . But they just went to ball joints and things went downhill from Mahri Nui.... (at least Voya Nui had Kardas... +5 SET DESIGN) TL;DR Lego, please add more Technic stuff into it. *Gresh = 21 parts = 20 dollars = ~0.952 $ / piece
