Multiplayer without joystick
ProfessorBrickkeeper and 7 others reacted to grappigegovert for a topic
While trying things for the LEGO Racers online mod, I found a way to disable the joystick check. This means you will be able to play local multiplayer without the need of an extra controller. To achieve this, a small edit in the game exe is required. I recommend making a backup of your exe file first. There are two methods to do this: 1. use the automatic patcher I made: https://ore.rockraidersunited.org/legacy/LEGO_Racers_multiplayerpatch_270543.zip steps: 1. extract the archive in your LEGO Racers folder. 2. run either 1999nodrm.exe or 2001.exe, depending on the version of LR you have. 3. click patch if it says 'file patched successfully', you're done! Note: if a crc error shows, you've probably ran the wrong exe. Note2: you can delete the extracted files afterwards. 2. manually edit the exe with a hex-editor: 2001 version: at 0x532E7, change 0x75 to 0xEB 1999 no-drm version: at 0x80FE7, change 0x75 to 0xEB 1999 drm version: I don't have this version, so I can't test it8 points -

Project Darwin and LEGO's First Steps into the Digital World

If you haven't yet had a chance to look through Brick by Brick, the recent book by David C. Robertson, I highly recommend it. Amongst other things it deals with LEGO's first forays in the digital world, through internal project they titled Darwin. According to the book (to the best of my memory, I don't currently have access to it to check), Darwin began when a Swedish man paid a visit to LEGO HQ. He insisted that he meet with Kjeld, and eventually got his wish. What he had to share was a highly impressive 3D animation featuring LEGO spaceships. The goal of project Darwin was to create a complete library of digital LEGO bricks, perfect in every detail. Then, to use these bricks to create a system for developing videos, games, and any number of computer-based paraphernalia LEGO could wish for. After many years of testing and playing with numerous concepts, and huge investments on LEGO's part, the company realized that technology was too limited to get them where they wanted fast enough. In addition, the employees on the Darwin team were being perceived by others to be receiving special treatment from the company, creating an ugly divide that made cooperation difficult. In 1998, LEGO Media was established, and quickly replaced Darwin and all of LEGO's ambitions related to it with a new aim of outsourcing to other companies to produce games. But that isn't why I'm here, posting this topic. I'm here because someone on the Bricklink forum just linked to The LEGO Movie - not the upcoming feature film, but what appears to be the original animation that inspired LEGO to launch Darwin. This animation, then, is the basis of everything LEGO has since done digitally. But that isn't all. Here is a window into some of the work that went on during the days of the Darwin project.1 point -

You've messed up your JAM Extractor installation. As you can see from the image below, the JAM extractor requires all those files to work (well, except for LEGO.JAM... ). http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=78510 Do this: Delete the python33.dll and JAM Extractor files from your Desktop. Download a new copy of the JAM Extractor, extract that entire Zip, and view the contents. Copy the exe.win32-3.3 folder (not just one file, the whole folder) from the build folder and paste it on your Desktop. Now try to extract the JAM archive. JMMB, have you considered using the GitHub Releases feature and putting up individual zip downloads of the JAM Extractor for Windows and Mac on the v1.2 tag? That might help clear up any future confusion and avoid these kinds of incidents.1 point -

What operating system are you running? Is it 32 bit or 64 bit? According to Google, you need the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. 32 bit: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=8328 64 bit: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=135231 point -

Whaaaaaaaaaaa.... But yeah, your drawing skills have really improved Ben, even if it has improved so much that it results in a drawing of me being stabbed to death in a bath by Fred actually freaking me out a lot But that was still brilliant. :P1 point -

True that, you've improved a lot, Ben. And regarding the chopped up Ayliffe, it was quite creepy. Still, it pictures the character of Fred very well.1 point -

Alright, so it was a little creepy to have Ayliffe cut up into pieces by Fred, but disregarding that... I'm actually more impressed with the visuals of your comic than the story itself. Dayum, that's some good artwork, Ben. Very stylistic.1 point -

Hi - would we be able to use your research lab as a possible new building in Rock Raiders 2?, would you be OK with that? I would want to post it on our site and get feedback, and we would have to change a final 3D version to be a little different to LEGO TM pieces, but basically quite similar. I think the sonic rock cutter would be better as communications transmitter, for a research station (it would be hard to move a research station to all the places where to want to drill!)1 point -
