I Do Not Agree: The aidenpons Waffle EULA
Ayliffe and 2 others reacted to le717 for a blog entry
It's been a while since my last post in this series, so I thought I'd write one. In this post, I will explore why I do not agree to The aidenpons Waffle EULA, created by aidenpons. Let's break this down and see why I do not agree to this Waffle EULA, shall we? It is disguised as a "Fun Fact". Deceptive marketing. I had no idea a single digital waffle could usurp kings and be a murderer. "reverse decompiling" Since decompiling means to reverse a process as a way to reach the original product, "reverse decompiling" means I cannot reverse the reversing process in order to make clone waffles. That means I cannot make new waffles from scratch in an attempt to duplicate this waffle. "Grammar-Nazis Inc", "Unauthorised", "centimetres" 1. This. 2.For being a "Grammar-Nazi" company, I'd think they would also care about their spelling, unless spelling is not part of their mission statement (I happen to know for a fact it is). "Watties' BBQ Sauce©"Ayliffe demands this is changed to Meme Face Homepride Fred this very instant. "You may keep a copy of the Waffle for backup purposes only. The waffle can be copied and preserved in several places as long as one and only one copy is in use." But I was only awarded one waffle, and if I cannot make duplicates of the waffle as stated earlier, how can I make backups of the waffle? "Failure to read the EULA completely means that you obviously have better things to do than waste your time looking at fine print." Guess I don't have anything better to do right now, do I? "Failure to read the EULA will also mean that your name shall be wiped out forever from the Book of Life, and you shall be thrown into the fiery furnace where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth." Actually, it's the Lake of Fire where there is eternal death and suffering, but this works. #BibleKnowledge "ROCK RAIDERS© Oh yea, DDI registered that, didn't they? Then this EULA is under violation of the DDI EULA for not giving proper attribution, thereby making the entire EULA null and void, setting me free to do whatever I want with these bunch of pixels. Well that was an... interesting post. Moving on. (LEGO Island 2 EULA anyone? )3 points -

"Midnight Storm" Halloween Special
Rock Monster and one other reacted to Drill Master for a blog entry
Hey everyone, I'm back with my 2014 Halloween Special composition called "Midnight Storm" Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LebxCbKAW_Q&feature=youtu.be The eerie strings, the dark organ, and the thunderous... well, thunder. For some reason, I knew for this Halloween I wanted to implement thunder into my composition. But I ran into some setbacks. I couldn't find a good enough set of thunder samples that I actually liked, and after a while of searching, I gave up and said, you know what? Forget it. So I was going to do some other kind of music, when I was messing around with the switches and knobs on my screen, and happen to hear a glimpse of the thunder I had wanted. I went back and focused, did some fine tuning and adjustments, and before I knew it, I had created a thunder sound similar to classic horror movie sound effect thunder. And thus, "Midnight Storm" was made. What do you all think of it? I must say I am really proud for making a sound rig for thunder. That and one of the choirs you've heard in previous tracks are the only sound rigs I've made myself. I plan on making more when I require specific sounds such as those. Anyway, there you have it! Lend me your heads- er... ears. (Also, if anyone is wondering, the picture I used for the cover art was a horizontal lightning strike going over the garage in my backyard.)2 points -

6:22. Batman punches Santa. Because sharks, Robin and badguys just aren't abundant enough. Is McJobless asking rhetorical questions again? Anyway, the existence of these games, simply as artifacts is fascinating. I used to do some programming on an Apple II GS computer, so I understand people still doing things with old platforms, but for it to be profitable to actually bootleg a large company and distribute bootleg games is not something I imagined. But I hope those poor citizens of Yakutsk enjoy hitting Santa for not giving them jetpacks to get off their permafrost purgatory.2 points -
Additional Brick Colors Mod
dy_enforcer reacted to Oboe Shoes for a topic
As you may already know, It's possible to edit the .LEB files in the PIECEDB folder to change what bricks are available in what color in any given category. (Or, by editing a small bit of binary, add additional bricks.) So for those of you who don't wish to mess with these files yourself, or if you just want a nice base for editing with some of the more common ones already there, I've compiled this little mod which will add the following bricks to your game without overriding anything: 11 new basic bricks in beige to the Johnny Thunder menu 14 new green bricks to the Veronica Voltage menu (The 12 basic brick types, plus the flag and spoiler) 1 new green brick to the Castle menu (the Castle theme flag) As for why I didn't split the green bricks up between the Standard and Racing menus, there's an unfortunate hard limit of 30 bricks per menu, forcing me to add to menus with smaller amounts of bricks. Download This is fairly basic for now, but I plan on adding additional pieces that could benefit from additional colors that I can find space for, and it's a good place to start if you want to edit these menus yourself. Remember, you can always edit these files to get any brick you want in any color temporarily, and then switch it back when you're done. I'll also look into any possibilities of getting around the limit of 30 bricks per menu, but for now, enjoy.1 point -
Character Skinner
Ben24x7 reacted to Jimbob for a topic
This is a simple modding tool for LEGO Racers which makes the process of inserting custom skin textures into the game easier. Using the GUI which is designed to look like the in-game character builder, you can scroll through all the textured body parts in the game (note that some parts don't have textures, but are defined separately in the binary files), select your desired part, and import a custom texture. The application then gives it the correct name and places it in the correct folders on your desktop, structured as an extracted LEGO.JAM file for ease. I made this tool as I discovered that the process of naming textures became laborious, as I had to frequently check my parts list and in some cases decipher which textures matched which character. The Character Skinner is therefore intended to aid this process, and is aimed at both beginner and advanced modders. I would like to give a huge thanks to le717 for helping me on the Python side of the tool, having never used Python before you really helped me. And thank you for your support along the way, despite my frequent nonsensical outbursts whenever I hit an error. Note: There are two keyboard shortcuts to make modification through the app faster. Pressing the Enter key performs the same function as clicking the 'Modify Texture' button, and the arrow keys can be used as an alternative to the on-screen arrow keys. Download Character Skinner v1.1 Character Skinner v1.0 Requirements - 24MB hard disk space - Windows operating system - The latest versions of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR Installation Simply extract the .ZIP file and place it anywhere you have read/write permissions. For administrators this includes Program Files; for limited users this is restricted to folders such as My Documents and Desktop. IMPORTANT: Everything inside the Character Skinner folder must stay as-is, any changes to names or folder positions will crash the program. If you wish to hide the folder, just create a shortcut to the Character Skinner.exe file in the root directory. Note: This cannot currently be done, I will patch it in v1.2. Version History Character Skinner v1.1 - Added higher quality music and sound on/off button - Matched 'Close Help Window' text to other text buttons - Added file conversion for non-BMP images Planned Updates Note: Items with a strike through have been completed, but not yet updated. - Modification of expressions - Cycle menu options using up/down arrow keys - Mac support - Option to save to GAMEDATA and MENUDATA folders individually I have already started work on a Track Skinner, however this will take significantly longer due to the amount of different tracks and textures.1 point -
Rock Racers Overhaul (WIP)
Rock Monster reacted to Jimbob for a topic
I'd like to make an overhaul mod for Lego Racers which changes all the themes to Rock Raiders-related ones. For instance, tracks will be re-textured to the biomes seen in the LRR game, and characters will be changed to look like LRR characters. Due to college and other distractions, this will probably take a while... Download The latest version of Rock Racers is v1.0.3.1, which can be downloaded below. Rock Racers v1.0.3.1 Note: This is a >PatchIt! installation, but can be installed without it - just follow the Advanced Installation steps below. Credit and a big thanks to Creator for making some epic custom PWBs and opponent car designs, as well as his continued friendly support. Credit to for his LRR minifigure textures. Tutorial: Skin Texturing
Rock Monster reacted to Jimbob for a topic
For my first tutorial on RRU, I'd like to make a simple guide on modding Lego Racers by creating custom textures for the models. These textures replace current textures, they don't add new textures. I've written quite a lot, you should be able to skim-read through if you don't have the patience. Preparing the Mod This is often standard procedure when modding, but if you're not aware of what to do, follow these steps. You will create a new directory for your Lego Racers game in which you can safely make a new texture mod. 1. Find the install directory of your Lego Racers game. 2. Copy the containing folder (LEGO Racers) and paste it in the same directory. Rename this new folder to something suitable, e.g. 'RacersModded' (I've purposely made it twelve characters for the next step). 3. Inside the new folder, you will find the LEGO.JAM. Download JMMB's JAM Extractor, and use it to extract this file. 4. You should now have two folders inside the main LEGO_JAM folder, 'GAMEDATA' and 'MENUDATA', ready for modding. Making the Skins The texture files for models in LEGO Racers can be found in GAMEDATACOMMON and MENUDATAPARTDB. While both use the same file, the former is for textures seen while actually racing, while the latter is for textures that you see in the menu section of the game. To mod a texture, you first need to download these template texture files, ripped from the PC game. Inside you will find a collection of files including heads, headgear, bodies, and legs. These are the templates you will use to create new textures. The textures are named using a simple system. Files containing 'CHST' refer to the torso, files containing 'DFLT' are the face, 'LEG(S)' are the leg of the model and 'HELMET', 'HAIR' and 'HAT' are obviously those pieces of headgear. In addition, files containing 'MAT' are for in-game AI opponent textures. None of these can currently be viewed, which is why you downloaded the template skins. I've given a small explanation of them below. So, you simply need to draw over the template files in any image editor to create new ones! The files must be saved as .BMP images, but can be in any resolution (so long as it is a power of 2), allowing for textures of a variety of qualities. Remember, the first four textures above will only affect the player textures - it is the MAT texture that is used for AI opponents. Adding the Skins All characters in the Lego Racers game have a two-letter name assigned to them which is used in their relevant texture files. Some characters (mainly bosses) have all four textures, while others will share the standard ones. The naming system for the racers are as follows (in circuit number order, followed by alphabetical order, the two letters to the left are the file names): You just need to change the file names of your textures to match the characters in-game, then copy the files into the GAMEDATACOMMON and MENUDATAPARTDB folders. Original Skin Textures I have ripped all of the skin textures from the game, and you can click the link below to download them (thanks Xiron for the HELMET2 texture). JJ's LR Texture Rips They are saved as BMP images with the exact same names of the game textures for your modding convenience I've kept the original screenshots I took below in case it's easier for people. Bodies Here are all the bodies found in the game. Faces Here are all the faces found in the game. Headgear Here is all the headgear found in the game. Legs This section isn't complete yet, as the method I used to work out the files doesn't quite work with legs. How the Textures Work To help even further, I have begun to determine how the game maps the textures onto the models. So far I have worked out the helmet, body and legs - feel free to use these textures as reference when creating your own textures. Helmet The yellow section is the main area. The white square at the lower-left is used for the rest of the helmet, and the line of colours above this is the visor. Chest The black areas are not used, and you can use the screenshots below to determine the rest. It is worth noting that in menu selection, the game uses the right hand to texture the left hand too, while in-game both hands use separate textures. In addition, the template textures have shading, suggesting that the textures may have been designed to be more advanced before the final release. Legs Again, the black areas are not used. The leg texture has (annoyingly) only three areas to colour. The yellow area is the main portion of the leg (thigh and that-lower-part-no-one-knows-the-name-of), and the green area is used for the belt section. The red area is used for the foot, sides and back, which unfortunately restricts texturing items such as shoes. Screenshots Recompiling The final step in texture modding is to recompile the mod. Once all the modified textures are copied into the folders, you can either recompile the main folder into a JAM file using the Jam Extractor, or run the game without the Jam Archives. Then, voila! You have successfully created a texture mod!1 point -

So I've started getting the orginal textures from the game (since we can't convert them yet) so you can see what they are and make your own replacements. I'll list the packs below when they are done. You can replace the files in your JAM with these too in the relevant folder. LEGO Racers map revamp
Rock Monster reacted to RobExplorien for a topic
LEGO Racers map revamping This topic actually turned into a whole map retexturing project. I'm going to retexture all track maps (which are shown in the lower right corner in-race). For now, some has been done already on this personal project, but most still has to be retextured. As soon as I have all tracks revamped, I will upload the small texture mod and make it PatchIt compatible (which makes it better than having to add each .bmp to its designated track map manually). Old releases: Current release: Fixing cut-off track (v1.0): It has annoyed me since I first noticed it, and never thought of fixing this, until now. The maps of three tracks appear cut-off at a certain spot. Now you might think: "Why are you making such a big deal out of this!?". I'm kind of a perfectionist. It may not contribute at all, but it is just something that I thought had to be fixed. Thanks to the ripped textures, that made me able to adjust the maps. The adjustments may not be very noticeable, but it looks better compared to the old map in my opinion. To spare you the editing of the maps, I've added the edited files in a .zip and can be downloaded here: Map revamp v1.0 When extracting the .zip, you'll find three maps, each containing one adjusted map. Copy (or cut) each IGD_MAP.bmp to the corresponding RACEC*R* file in the .JAM archive, then recompile and add the .JAM to wherever it has to go in order to play LEGO Racers with the adjusted maps. Images of the adjusted maps; left is old, right is new. New features on maps (v2.0): It's here, all new in colour! This map revamp mod includes retextured maps for all tracks. This mainly includes colouring the map to match with the track colour, but shortcuts are added as well. Don't forget the bonus feature, and I think that some already know what it is. It was fun to make, but it is more important to me that you enjoy the new maps. Feedback is appreciated, as it may help me improve the maps even more. Even I still doubt if some tracks look finished or good, but for the time being, enjoy this release. I've added an image to give you a preview of the map revamp mod, picturing Rocket Racer Run and Dark Forest Dash. This version is outdated, and is merged with v2.0.1, so download link to the map revamp mod can be found under that section. Issue fix (v2.0.1): Not much difference compared to v2.0. le717 informed me about an issue where the fast install with PatchIt! of the map revamp mod wasn't working correctly, and he had to install all separate .BMP files manually. I fixed that, and it should work now on the easy installing way. Also, I did minor pixel edits on a few tracks. Barely noticeable, but merely serving for the detail. In order to play with the map revamp mod, you have to download the file below and install it into your LEGO.JAM. It is PatchIt! v.1.0.3 compatible as well, but manually installing it or using PatchIt! is up to you. Link to the file for the map revamp mod: Map revamp v2.0.1 Extra map:1 point -
Creator's big custom AI racers collection

Ok, here's how this is gonna work: Whenever I finish a new AI racer reskin, I'm gonna add a new entry to this topic. This way, you'll be able to download characters you want seperately and I don't have to make a new thread every time I finish a character. I'm making these based on the theme list from JimbobJeffer's Theme Overhaul mod, but I may still be taking requests for custom AI racers. Just send me a PM or post a reply, telling me who you would like to see made into an AI opponent. I can't remember who made it, but somebody has made a mod that retextures some of the AI racers and I know that Brains is one of them. Do you want to make it so you can play as the Power Miners or the AI are reskinned as them?1 point -

Also, in my >Rock Racers mod I started to put in Power Miners textures. However I have no idea how far I got, or if they were even put into a release yet. Creator gave all their cars some awesome recolours.1 point -

Yes, it's possible, but someone has to make them. >Maybe you could? (I don't know how easy this tutorial is to follow, as I haven't used it myself.) Rock Monsters would be more difficult if you want them to be shaped like them. Work on LR models is still in early stages.1 point -

Welcome, Rock Monster! It's about time one of you clawed your way out of a cavern wall and explored the RRU HQ. I'll remind Lord merCy to keep the Action Stations! alarm off. Indeed, however Oboe Shoes has created a modification that allows you to build these models, which you can download >here. If you haven't modded LEGO Racers before, there's also a beginner's tutorial available >here.1 point -

Purple, and Dark blue represent depth, the black is an area that was charred during one of the ancient wars on the alien world. Yeah if you only see the grid it's kind of hard to see what program is being used.1 point -

Well we lost two members today which is kind of sad, but i'm still going to push this though and get it done. I think we can still do this even with as few members as we currently have. I have also decided to shift gears and move to using 3DCGI for a majority of the components of the series, including the characters, world, mechs. Some of the textures and other objects may still be drawn though, and I may seek out other modelers and texture editors to help in breaking up some of the more detailed work. In case you're curious, my inspiration for using CGI is this scene from Arpeggio of Blue steel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23E-YEHjASI Just thought i'd push out an update, i've started to model the basic shapes of various characters and design the Mechs, and other items. I've also been making an Elevation map of the Alien world that's going to be featured on the series, I plan on Modeling the entire planet, including the cities, buildings, streets, and characters etc. It'll be a lot of work, but i'll be easier for me to place and animate everything this way. But anyway, here is a basic Topographical map that i've been working on.1 point -

They aren't unlockables, but you do unlock their parts when you win their circuits. They can build them almost identically, but there might be some slight variations in color as their cars are single models for efficiency, but you build from bricks.1 point -

Tutorial: 3D Modelling
Quisoves Potoo reacted to grappigegovert for a topic
The problem is that the indices get higher than 255, which is the max value for a byte. You'll need to create multiple vertex/index ranges so the indices stay under 255 (with each range, the indices start at 0 again.) Example taken from 4BRK.gdb: In this example: The 19th index is the first index in the 2nd range, you see that it contains a 0, but also a 31 and 30. If you were to convert it to the format you have now, the 0 would become 32 (0+vertex start) but the 31 and 30 stay the same to connect the 2nd range with the 1st range. In all the other indices you add 32 (vertex start) I hope this is not too confusing, it took me a while to get it too.1 point -

What an interesting secret that LEGO hath hidden so stealthily in the title of their newest franchise "Chima" It is absolutely amazing that one such as you could uncover a secret as cleverly placed as this You should send LEGO an email and ask them when you'll get your payment for figuring it out This is like national treasure with LEGOs1 point -

... Let me get this straight. Japan has manga, and manga has catgirls and stuff. Therefore, since China is totally the same thing as Japan, and Chima is like China, LEGO made a theme with furries based on all that. .......... I'm sorry, but... http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InsaneTrollLogic ... I can't think of anything else that applies.1 point -
