LEGO Island Ripper Tool by Supper
LegoLoco7 and 6 others reacted to Mr. Eight-Three-One for a topic
I'm not sure if this is redundant compared to this, but considering we haven't made a whole lot of progress since that posting, I figured I might as well bring this up here. You all remember Supper, right? If not, he was the one who uploaded this video. It naturally got a lot of attention but he was surprisingly quiet about it despite all the comments y'all bombarded that video with. Turns out this was the result of a little extracting tool he hacked together. After being impressed with his work on his Humongous Entertainment rippers, I thought I'd ask him how he got it. His response: Here we are nearly two weeks later, and here it is. It's not quite as nice as the Riff tool as it doesn't rip files by their actual names, but I thought you would want a look at it anyway. He's included the source code (this one is coded in C instead of Python) so I thought that would be a help as well. This works as a command line -- you simply stick whatever SI file you want in the same folder as the exe, and run it as "lierip [filename].si". For a list of parameters, simply type "lierip". Thus far, it only rips sounds, videos, and bitmaps. Again, I don't know how much further it gets us, but I thought you would at least like to give it a try. Don't expect anything great -- again, he outright admitted he didn't spend much time on this, but seeing how the source code is included, maybe someone else could pick up the project and push it a little further. It's amazing how small things look when you have a far view. In this case, Island Xtreme Stunts' island is the small looking one. Yea yeah, I know I haven't put that in gmod (yet), but I just wanted to show I wasn't dead in porting (if my constantly changing avatar hasn't said that enough). You know what the best part about this rip was? All the textures were already applied! I did absolutely no work. Here PeabodySam, this one is for you. Anyhow, I've added a list to the OP of the games that I have that are ripable.7 points -

http://youtu.be/V1B5njIbtOE Alright, alright, it's not finished. But hey, progress! So the wheels still need to be recoloured and shifted back, and the back half of the slope needs its colours fixed, but other than that I think it's coming along well. I've added more parts, including modelling the dark grey modified plate (which wasn't easy), and added shading to all the parts - which tripled the amount of vertices each one required - so the file is now currently 4710 lines long!5 points -

Cafeteria 1.0 BETA 7 - Launcher & Mod Loader for LRR
Haozu reacted to Cyrem for a topic
Cafeteria! 1.0 BETA 7 Cafeteria is a Game Launcher and Mod Loader for LEGO Rock Raiders. It allows you to play LEGO Rock Raiders mods without manual installation and also allows you to configure the various parameters of LEGO Rock Raiders/LEGO Rock Raiders Community Edition. Installation - First, download the latest version of Cafeteria at the bottom of this post. - Extract Cafeteria and all its files into the installation directory of LEGO Rock Raiders. This is usually: C:\Program Files (x86)\LEGO Media\Games\Rock Raiders - Your installation is finished. Whenever you want to play, start Cafeteria and launch the game through it instead. Requirements Most new computers already have these installed, however if you are missing one, you may get errors in the program. - .NET Framework 4.5 (Download) Installing Mods Mods come in files with the extension *.wadp. You can find mods in topics on this forum. To install a mod, simply place the WADP file inside the "Mods" directory or use the "Add Patch" button. You can confirm a mod has been installed and is valid by visiting the "Mod Manager" tab in Cafeteria where it will display. Ordering Mods Using the arrows on the interface you can move mods up and down. Mods at the end of the list are considered "low priority" and mods up the top are considered "high priority". Mods are installed in order from Low to High Priority. As some mods overlap others or must be applied after other mods, you can order them in the correct installation order. FAQ I heard this allows playing LRR in high resolutions? You did hear correctly. Old versions of Cafeteria did allow this, however this has since changed. Playing LRR in high resolution has now been moved to the Rock Raiders Community Edition project where it will be built into the game. How do I make my own Patches? Please see this topic: Patch Documentation for Cafeteria Changelog 1.0 BETA 7 Added "Addons" to Online Mod library for installing things like D3DRM. Fixed case sensitivity on CFG:Open Added Context Menu Items "Remove Patch" and "Open in File Explorer" Added "Create New Patch" under Tools. This will create a new patch with file structure under "Mods" and added it to the Mod list. 1.0 BETA 6 CFG:AddBlock will not duplicate an existing block. CFG:AddProperty will not duplicate an existing property, instead it will update an existing property. 1.0 BETA 5 Fixed encoding issues with languages other than English. 1.0 BETA 4 Renamed JMP command to CMP command Added new JMP command to simply jump to labels without compare. Added online library for mods (not much yet still adding) Mod description tooltips. Added patch log to see the last log of patch applications. Added "FileAdd" "FileRemove" "DirectoryMerge" to replace "WAD:..." equivalents. These have enhanced debugging messages. Old commands have not been removed. 1.0 BETA 3 Added variables & related commands: VAR / VAR:FromCFG / VAR:Increment / VAR:Decrement Added the ability to Jump in a script with JMP <variable> <opcode> <value> <jumplabel> Added format specified to variable output {var|D2} = 01, {var|F2} = 1.00 Added the ability to work with ANY config file, CFG, AE, PTL, OL etc. Just CFG:Open <path> and CFG:Save when done. 1.0 BETA 2 Removed case sensitivity from AddFilesFromDirectory. Added Patch Extract and ReBuild into right-click menu. Automatically saves and reloads mods before rebuilding. Misc changes. 1.0 BETA 1 Too many changes to list since 0.9.3 Download 1.0 BETA1 point -

Downloads: I've started doing some LEGO model porting on my break from porting models from 3D Worms games. So. Without further ado, here are a few screens so you know what I'm talking about: Torq Racer from Drome Racers Boat from LEGO Racers 2 (originally I was going to rip a palm tree, but this caught my attention. ) I'll likely be porting other random stuff from all other classic LEGO Games too! (as long as I own it) So, since I'm clueless on what exactly to port, throw me some suggestions! This is not restricted to DR and LR2. Important thing to note! I won't do landscapes and characters for the follow reasons: a) Landscapes can't be ported due to Valve's custom map format. b) Characters should be rigged, and I don't know how to do that (yet). List of Games I can port from: LEGO Racers (N64 Only, when I rip from the PC version it is like someone stuck the model in acid) LEGO Racers 2 Drome Racers LEGO Island 2 Island Xtreme Stunts LEGO Rock Raiders Soccer Mania Bionicle: The Game Games I can't do: LEGO Island (too old) -Others games I still have to test- Chess Creator Creator KK1 point -

A Puzzle: How to Design a Website for One Person.
Starrocks923 reacted to Alcom Isst for a blog entry
The Assignment: For one of my classes, IGME 110: Intro to Interactive Games and Media, I am to design a website. The first step is due Tuesday at 2:00 PM EST, and reads as such: Start designing the structure for your project website • Who’s your target audience? What information would be useful to them? • What kind of experience do you want to design? • What content do you intend to include? Before class next Tuesday, upload to the dropbox a brief (1-3 paragraph) description of your initial ideas for the site, and a simple flow chart showing the pages you’d like to include. (This is not a final or binding design; it’s a first step in the process!) The Catch: The target audience for the website is Elizabeth Lane Lawley, my professor for the course. That's it. A single person. I've done some analysis on her. Beyond her role as a game development professor Lawley is a person heavily involved in gamification efforts, but not the development of any traditional games. Professionally she has a strong interest in social networking and what I would call "the science of fun", and more personally she... well, look at her flickr page. I'm almost uncomfortable with how much stalking I'm doing here, but Professor Lawley was the person who assigned this activity, so I'm not. I have brainstormed this for a few hours, and cannot think of what would be a good project. I'd assume that a good topic would be something informational related to game design, yet something that Lawely isn't familiar with, but I should not choose something that will tilt the project more towards research and less towards web development. I could email her (office hours are past the due date), but I don't yet know how to phrase the email, and want to get opinions and ideas before I try. So I'm rather stumped. Any ideas?1 point -

I'd rather us start small then try to go big with stuff like playermodels (heck, that's why we have PAC3 and why a lot of people make some cool stuff with it). That's why I was offering to attempt to make some vehicle ents and do weapons until I can learn how to do a lot of the modeling stuff. It's gonna be hard to "piggyback" off of default animation sets due to model size for us to even rig the playermodels correctly (I may be wrong). I have tons of GMod coders on my friends list and I can ask them when the time comes. Anyways, enough "ranting", onto some content. You have yourself a great day. *conversation end* This was the longest I ever took for a model. It was ripped from LEGO Racers 2. There was a lot of pieces to apply textures to, and I had to due a bit of a guessing game with some look-a-like materials. I didn't rip it from LI2 because 1) Ninja Ripper doesn't work with it. (No, outdated 3D Ripper DX is not comparable with the program) 2) The msh2obj converter we have doesn't preserve UVW Mapping1 point -
Contact with ATD
I Am Not Here reacted to dead_name for a topic
Kevin, I took the liberty of cleaning up the email reply a bit Why did ATD go out of business? Partly due to the cancellation of LR4 - we never really reached agreement as to what the vision for LR4 should be with the Lego Digital team, impossible to achieve milestones when you can’t agree what it should be (we were aiming for something where you could design your own vehicle and then race it - Banjo & Kazooie did something similar with Nuts & Bolts). Were there any other Lego games that were cancelled? yes, several in various stages of production (more Lego Soccer, etc.) – I think the cancellations were a result of less-than-stellar sales of the games, leading to the closure of the digital group that handled them. The break-out title was TT’s Lego Star Wars in 2005… Were there any other planned areas/worlds for the game? Not that I can remember, sorry - we were led pretty strongly by the toy ranges LEGO wanted to feature, so I think we settled on those pretty early. Why the change in weapon system from LR1? I realise it was a different company, but surely you would have analysed LR1 for inspiration. It was mostly due to wanting to build on lessons learned about power-ups on Rollcage and Rollcage Stage II. Who was Nod? Lyndon Sharp, nicknamed Nod - biggest petrol-head on the team! We've heard that ATD's first collaboration with LEGO was Rocket Racers, an attraction at LEGOLAND Windsor. Rocket Racers is obviously based directly on the original LEGO Racers, and going by video footage, it seems that it may even use some of LEGO Racers' textures. LEGO Racers 2 also recycles some minifigure face textures from the original LEGO Racers. So, what was the relationship between High Voltage Software and ATD? Was ATD given more than just textures? Honestly unknown. I doubt ATD got more than the textures - the game was built very much on the Rollcage engine, so it's unlikely that we took much in the way of code. But I could be wrong. In certain versions/languages of the game MPH is used, and others KPH. Was this simply just a text edit, or did the speedometer actually change between versions? If it is just a text edit, which speed measurement is most accurate to follow? Almost certainly - the number had no world relevance, so we probably just changed the KPH/MPH tag. What/when/why was Rocket Racer's design altered in LEGO Racers 2? An early trailer for the game has FMV clips featuring the original design, concept art for the game's box shows the original design, and the ice statue of him in the Arctic foyer in-game even uses his original design... It seems to suggest the redesign didn't come until later in the game's development. I seem to remember the new Rocket Racer look being connected to Xalax, so the old design being used to represent his previous incarnation in Lego Racers. (a looong time ago so memory's a bit fuzzy) What happened with the Xbox port for Drome Racers? Either it was never released, or it's incredibly rare. I'm fairly sure that Drome Racers was our first X-box Lego game. I completed the Xbox port of Drome Racers after Rob had laid the groundwork, and we delivered it to EA unlocalized. It was my understanding that EA had decided to take on the cost of localization themselves. I don't know why EA didn't proceed to full production, my guess would be the untimely demise of ATD probably caused licensing and ownership issues with LEGO and the liquidators. Why was Professor Voltage replaced by Sparky? Sparky was seen as being easy for children to associate with. Going by certain developer comments in the scripts, I take it you guys had a fun time making this game? Certainly did. It was the first game made with a new game-engine and proprietary tools. Loads of challenges but loads of those magic moments. I remember the first time Rob came out with his water effects. I had an absolute hoot scripting the conversations on Sandy Bay.. suffice to say that most had to be shelved. Why did you use visible objects like curbs for ambient sounds and not an invisible one? We assigned different sounds, grip and drag to different textures on the worlds. We needed ways of defining tracks in certain areas, without those paths confusing the route in other races using the same world. Rather than change the whole world, it was much more efficient to mark them out with a few separate objects. As indicated by an unused piece of dialogue, the character of Captain Geoff was originally intended to be a regular in Sandy Bay, as opposed to merely a passenger in a mini-game. Furthermore, he is named in the files as "Lighthouse Keeper." No lighthouse appears in the final game, however. Can you elucidate us concerning this scrapped building? I based all the characters in Sandy Bay on members of the dev team (Geoff was our AI guru, amongst other areas). Some of those minifigs didn't make it into the final game and others had to be relocated to fit the game's flow. I remember us having a lighthouse but it not being close to Captain Geoff's location; I thought it was near the caves but I guess I need to go and look at the game. While most of the AI racers are extant minifigs with ties to one of the in-game worlds, a few are entirely original. They are, I believe, the wild-orange-haired, red-suited, Barron Rosso and the bald, tuxedo-wearing Franky-Solido. What was the reason for their existence? I seem to remember us being given those boss characters by Lego Digital. How were parts chosen for the character creator? Good question. I think that was down to Captain Geoff (see above) Were there any substantial features cut from the games? Yes, network multiplayer. I believe there were issues with determinism and syncing everything up. Not sure if the code stayed in or was never committed.1 point -

From this point forward, I will be moving a lot of my better-quality blog entries to my very own personal blogger which I have full control over. I made this decision based on a couple factors, such as the need for more exposure, but all to prevent any flooding on this site in the event I have any outlandish opinions. I will still notify you guys when there's new writing from me up, but be prepared for a lot of my stuff from the past year to be moved. It is likely everything from 2013 and backward will stay in this blog on RRU, and anything specific to RRU, LEGO or gaming news will still be posted here or in RRU Gaming. Thanks. I have already made one new blog entry which is up only on the blogger site. As well as the link above, the proper URL is http://mcjobless.blogspot.com.au/.1 point -

(RRU needs better Twitter integration) I can't hide it. I still have a soft spot for the games I grew up with, even if I don't necessarily enjoy those types of games anymore. Halo was one from my childhood. Quite a big part, in fact. A very large part was the incredible soundtrack constructed by Martin O'Donnell. This tweet confirms that the King of the Ivory Tower has been removed from his throne. It's a sad, unfitting end to one of the greatest musical legacies in gaming. Reports are saying that Marty finished his work with Destiny, but nothing can confirm the official reason for his termination. Even the official statement seems to be more like mockery of the current situation. Let's hope he can find somewhere new and exciting soon. I'll post more if anything develops.
