Local store still selling Dirt Crusher RC! Wait...

So we've already had a >few >other >topics about individual clone brands. Well, I went to a couple of shops in Bluewater today and came across these sets. Firstly... Look familiar? Oh yes, of course, that awesome RC car we all know: And, while not as closely copied, here's another clone brand. Except I've got the source on this one! Clone brands are nothing new, but to see them in the highly revered (or at least, once was) shopping centre that is Bluewater?4 points -

That is how many alternate JimbobJeffers mathematically exist. The evening of 13 November, Yajmo was joking how should have some code randomize the spelling of his name, with a new spelling appearing upon every page load. Since such a task would be best accomplished client-side using JavaScript, I wrote up some code that did just that, available at gist.github.com/le717/4c2188ca814f56575a26. The above code loops through each character of the entered name, randomly picks a letter and concatenates it to the existing string. It also ensures it does not use the same letter twice unless it already exists. I have checked each output for my name, "le717", and every single one only has two sevens in it, never three. The trick is not checking for the character used, but the index chosen. If the index has been used before, then it will choose a different one. Since the sevens have two different indexes (3 and 5), they are both included and a third is never added. Cyrem liked the idea, so he and I worked together to get it implemented. The next morning, most everybody here had already seen the name scrambling and either loved it or hated it For fun, I decided to run it on a few names on my end and see the results. JimbobJeffers' name in particular produced some really scrambled names. He wondered if it were possible for the code to generate a name containing "Bobjim". Since I knew it would be a trivial bit of code to write, I said I would try it. I started by calculating the possible permutations of his name using factorials. His name is 13 characters long, producing a possible 6,227,020,800 (six billion, two hundred twenty-seven million, twenty thousand, eight hundred) combinations. I then found some JavaScript to calculate that number for me (I did not want to type it in manually) (although I should know how to write code to calculate the factorial already ). Because he wanted to see if any of them contained "Bobjim", I made it store any names that matched in an object along with its index. Finally, once it had generated and checked all 6 billion names, it would either display the object or report such a combination does not exist, depending on the outcome. After some small-scale tests to ensure the code worked, making his name and check all lowercase to remove possible misses because of case differences, and a false start in order to implement a 100-increment progress counter, around 10:22 AM I let the code loose, powered by none other than the awesome Node.js. The progress of this code was amazing. While I failed to check the processing speed after I started it, I later started calculating the speed (names processed at the 10 second, 1 minute, and 1 hour levels), current number of names processed, and projected time until completion. A mere 10 minutes after starting, an amazing 64 million names had already been processed. That is a rate of 6.4 million a minute, roughly 106 thousand a second! 40 minutes after starting, when I formally starting performing logs, I clocked it at 6 million names a minute, or 36 million names an hour. Within an hour after running, 419 million names had been run, with a projected time until all 6 billion were processed looking at 15 hours, or 2 AM the next morning. Yikes. I knew it would take a long time, but not that long. After that, it slowed down drastically. Two hours after starting, it ran at only 54,000 names a minute, or 3,240,000 names an hour, an 11-fold decrease. Within that time, a staggering 419,159,500 names had been generated. Finally, nearly 4 and a half hours and a CPU priority increase to High (in an attempt to make it run faster), it chugged along at 13,000 names an hour, with a projected 49 years remaining for it to calculate the remaining 5,807,484,800 names. Yea, that is totally happening. Finally, I killed the code, having processed 419,750,000 names in a few minutes shy of 5 hours running. So, what did I learn from this experiment? JavaScript, like any other language, slows down the longer it runs. 6 billion is a lot larger than you might think. I brushed up on my factorial and permutation knowledge. I had fun doing it. Does there exist an alternate JimbobJeffers that goes under the name "Bobjim"? The world may never know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6rHeD5x2tI In case you wanted to try this experiment yourself, I have posted the exact code I used in a GitHub Gist. This was not the most scientific experiment ever, so there may be some issues with it, but that's not the point. Well that was fun. Perhaps I should try to calculate the meaning of life next, as Ayliffe suggested. After all, if I can get it to retain the speed it starts out with constantly, it should only take a month. :P2 points -

That's right peeps, a mod for LR2 that makes NPCs talk without the need of subtitles to understand! A test I did just to see how it would work out can be found here. People working on this mod: (ordered by when members joined project) Xiron JimbobJeffers le717 Rioforce (le's bro) Quisoves Pugnat (QP) McJobless Ben24x7 ShadowBlaze Oboe Shoes (OS) Ayliffe kajeuter Nintaga (Xiron's Sister)* Captain Kiwi (Nintaga's Friend)* Chonsy* Asterix means the person is from outside RRU. Anyone can join, so long as the following guidelines are followed. Guidelines: Recording should be in 44100 Hertz or higher (remember, just because you can record in that hertz, doesn't mean the sound quality is equivalent to it). Recording should be no less than 192 Kbps Preferred file format: .wav; Secondary preferred is .mp3. You can voice as many characters as you like. You have two weeks to voice the character after you pick it. If you need an extenion let me know with reason why. I'm not going to stop you from picking a character someone else already claimed, in the case two or more people want to do the same character, they will have to compete by uploading a voice clip of the character, with a line said from the game (I'll pick if multiple), and the community can choose who's voice they like better for the character. Please think responsibly and know if you would have a proper voice for the character before going: OHMAGAWSH I WANT TO VOICE DAT CHARACTER!!! List of Characters + Actors (yes, I pulled this from >my post in the Racers wiki topic. ) Questions and Answers: Q. What is XXX? And how do I deal with XXX when voicing the line? A. Be creative. XXX is where the player name use to be. Do your best to make sound great, and ask here for suggestions if you need any. Q. How will you deal with player references? A. We will use gender-neutral surnames instead of the name you choose for your character. Example, Sparky may call the player (XXX) buddy, and challengers may call the player newbie, and other higher rank as the game progresses, just to name a few. There are a lot more things that can be said than just these. Please avoid using "player", if you can. Q. Do I need to own the game to help? A. Nope! I can provide the lines you need to say. Just use the images linked with the character so you know what the character you are acting for looks like. Q. Can we expand or improve the lines if they are too shallow? A. In short, yes. You will have to use part of the original line though, and the majority will need to approve of the change. Note: You also have to keep within the game's targeted audience, so don't use any words you wouldn't hear them put in the game. Q. When will this be released? A. When we are done. There might be alpha & beta releases as the mod progresses on though. Q. Can you keep me updated of progress? A. Sorta. We have a completion list doc right here! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PZpHzQHTX33U31ePO4I18n-P5jxid7J-ZCTS_MshzX4/1 point -
Car Craze's Brick Mod

IMPORTANT -- READ CAREFULLY: By installing this mod, you agree to nothing. This mod is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. I don't know what to name this topic. Features: Azure and Rock Raiders Turquoise (unused) brick colors Threw in some extra bricks to BB's, JT's and RR's car sets because why not (Note: RR's car set is not essential to this mod) Corrected color issues with the sword, pickaxe, and those three bricks in BVB's car set The shields in BB's car set are now light gray, like they should be (I think.) Menu quality bricks for gameplay cars (studs are still flattened, though.) LPIECELO.MDB and LPIECELO.TDB will no longer be used after installing this, so you can just go ahead and delete them. They're the same as their LPIECEHI equivalents, anyway. Also, the unused turquoise brick color is really only there for you to do whatever with. To install, place the contents of this package in MENUDATAPIECEDB Old downloads that should really delete sometime: https://ore.rockraidersunited.org/legacy/BrickMod_For_LR_828196.zip https://ore.rockraidersunited.org/legacy/BrickMod_For_LR_204703.zip (Incomplete) What the hell has been keeping me from finalizing this for two months?1 point -

If you've merged this mod with several others, and the other mods were working fine before you installed this one, then it's quite likely that this mod isn't compatible with one of the other mods. In this particular case, something is wrong with Ann Droid's in-game model, so you'll need to decide whether you want to use this mod's Ann Droid or the one in whatever other mod is conflicting with it.1 point -

What Is Better Power Miners Or Rock Raiders ?
Ayliffe reacted to McJobless for a topic
Rock Monster. I'm going to assume you're both young and new, so I'll try and be a bit gentle with this. For whatever reason, you keep going through the very, very old topics (some are more than 3 years old, this one is one year old) that have been completely shut down, and you manage to bump these for reasons unknown to me or anybody else, with very little content. At RRU, we frown upon bumping without some kind of important purpose. For example, you might bump a topic for a mod if you add some progress to it later down the track. Bumping all of the topics with "Power Miners" in it is not an important purpose. Really, you should have started a new topic to show your opinion, and then given us points for and against why you think Power Miners is better. I don't care if you like Power Miners or Rock Raiders more. I just don't want old topics that have been forgotten to suddenly be bumped, pushing back new, active topics with discussion that might be slightly more important. In future, please look at the time and date of the last post, and if it's more than a few weeks, unless you have something REALLY important to say, leave the topic without posting.1 point
