Keeping an Eye on LEGO's Future
VentXekart and 6 others reacted to emily for a topic
Imagine a world where you had the power to build LEGO with your mind. Or eyes, which is sort of close. LEGO is already envisioning that world (on a digital level, of course), as they demonstrated at Consumer Electronics Show 2015. The Eye Tribe is a software developer that, as you may have already surmised, is developing consumer-level eye-reading technology. They've partnered with LEGO to apply their technology to digital LEGO building. The LDD of the future? Sources: Brick Fanatics7 points -

Rama Pack v1.0
Jimbob reacted to Zed for a topic
This pack includes the following: Two variations of the whole pack; one where the round "mohawk" head Ramas have added teeth, and another where they are left without them. Skin textures and head models for all eight Ramas excluded from LR2 Tweaked versions of the unused car textures A few added textures, including wheel colors and textures for Pulse's and Rip's cars. Mirrored Chill and Warrior faces Tweaked body texture for Warrior (I simply replaced his red foot pattern with the black and silver one his Lego counterpart has Depending on your preferences for the Ramas, setting everything up can take a short while as you'll have to override several files. For setup information, view the read-me included in the .zip Screenshots: Notes: The other car parts won't display correctly on Lightor's car for some reason. I have tried fixing this by creating different .md2 files and testing them, but I can't seem to find a solution to the problem. Download: https://ore.rockraidersunited.org/legacy/LR2_Rama_Pack_V1.0_391944.zip Future Plans: I plan on eventually adding the >Unnamed Ramas to the pack , but skins, names and custom cars will need to created for them. If it will ever be possible, I would also add the new parts and chassis into the car builder so that they are all accessible. Until then, it will be a while.1 point -
Cavern Run
MaelstromIslander reacted to Jimbob for a topic
Rock Raiders: Cavern Run Merry Christmas to everyone at RRU! On this special day, I have prepared a little present for you all: Cavern Run, a web game based on the arcade games of the 80s. Weighing in at just over 3MB (a bit larger than the sizes available back then, but meh), this game places a character designed by you, using the character creator at the beginning, into a long cavern filled with deadly hazards and rewarding Energy Crystals. Jump, shoot lasers and blast sonic at the obstacles in your way to make it as far as possible and gain the highest score, all while your running speed gets increasingly faster. With an excellent soundtrack by @Shadowblaze, an addictive-yet-simple gameplay and competitive working leaderboards, Cavern Run is sure to make this Christmas (and beyond) a special one! Play Now Cavern Run Requirements - Web browser with Adobe Flash Player (please ensure to allow data storage before you play the game) - Keyboard Instructions The game is played using the up, left and right arrow keys. The game will guide you through the menus and gameplay mechanics. At the character creator, pressing Jump while on the Head selection will begin the game. Crystals earn you 10 points each, Slimy Slugs earn you 30 points each and Rock Monsters earn you 50 points each. After you are defeated, you may enter your name using your keyboard (Backspace deletes characters, Delete will not work). Please do not use offensive or inappropriate names or your score entry will be removed. It is recommended that you use your RRU name or similar (there is a 10 character limit) to identify yourself to others when viewing the leaderboards. When you have finished a game, press the orange Reload button at the top-right corner of the screen if you wish to play again. In full screen mode you will need to refresh the page instead. Please note that you may have to click on the game screen a few times during the menu if the keys do not respond, this is an issue with Flash. LR2 Custom Car Unpacker
aidenpons reacted to Quisoves Potoo for a topic
A few days ago, I was alerted, thanks to Firedude34, to a conspicuous, yet easily filled, gap in the LEGO Racers 2 tool library. It is thus that I present, for your entertainment and edification, the LEGO Racers 2 Custom Car Unpacker ("CCDU.") Download Instructions Download and extract CCDU.zip Locate your LEGO Racers 2 "SaveGame" file, which is normally situated in DocumentsGamesLEGO Racers 2Saved Games. Drag the file to "CCDU.exe", and voila! All your custom cars (.CCD files) have been extracted. You will find them in the folder "[save-file name] Car Files" Notes: If an Adventure Mode car is present for a particular world, a duplicate exists (last among the car files for that world.) This is a peculiarity of LEGO Racers 2. I deemed it most convenient for the program to overwrite any preexisting custom car files, should they share their names with those being extracted. Thus, if you intend to unpack your save-game once more, and want to save an already-unpacked car for later, you must either move it to another folder or change its file-name. Program written in Python and compiled via Py2EXE. And special thanks to Xiron, for listing the offsets of certain .CCD files, thus making the naming feature a synch.1 point -

I would not enjoy this much, for the same reason I'm not a huge fan of LDD - I like the feel of LEGO bricks under my fingers. Building digitally is also a lot less intuitive (at least for me). It's a really cool idea, though, and giving people who can't use their hands the ability to build with LEGO bricks is awesome.1 point -

I can see the application of such technology being incredibly popular among disabled audiences. But for the general public, I dunno... Just as with reading books, I much prefer building LEGO physically than digitally. However it would be a great alternative to LDD when building with parts you don't have.1 point -

Why? It's not like anyone has a legal claim to the word "Avatar." Else, Richard Garriot or Norman Spinrad or perhaps disgruntled Hindus (ala the Maiori lawsuit against LEGO) would have sued them. And fourteen-year old girls should stay out of government and stick to the kitchen and Gungans should never have gotten the vote, and they should all stay in the swamps so we can pretend they don't exist. Take your Gunganist views elsewhere. Have some respect for our aquatic brethren!1 point -

Thanks! I think I've figured out the problem. It's not file corruption. Your Rocket Racer.CCD works like charm. Looking at your CAR BUILDSANDY folder, It seems that you don't grasp the concept of file-replacing. Simply deleting one file and putting another in the same folder will only prevent the computer from finding what it is looking for. LEGO Racers 2 has been told to find "POST VAN.CCD." It doesn't care tuppence-halfpenny for the number of .CCD files in the folder, it wants a file by that name. So, you could have a million .CCD files in the SANDY folder, and the program will only notice those with the right names, of which there can be no more than eight, in this case. Here's a little tutorial: Find SANDY BAY 1.CCD in the "GameSave Car Files" folder. Copy it to the CAR BUILDERCARCRAZE folder. Rename the WARRIOR.CCD file. Simply adding a "-" to the end of its name should do. Now, rename "SANDY BAY 1.CCD" to "WARRIOR.CCD" Start a race on Xalax, and observe Warrior's car.1 point -

Never noticed either of those before. I went in game to check out the first one, and found some more places where it happens. http://imgur.com/a/uffVZ It's tied to the camera angle as well as Pepper's location, oddly... I also saw it happen to a Brickster-Bot, but didn't get a screenshot of it. I did get a screen of the Brickster-Bot standing where it was when it went invisible, but I couldn't get it to happen again. There's also a couple screenshots of modeling goofs on Studz's house.1 point -

So you could build a model with your left hand and another model with your right hand and a virtual model with your eyeballs. You could totally have convention contests like that. Future's gettin' pretty weird, man.1 point -

Ach! I'd quite forgotten that LR2 does not, unlike its predecessor, allow for copying of cars. I should hopefully be able to update the tool with such a feature soon. I initially thought the code so slight as to be of no interest. But since it seems I was wrong, I shall do so, as soon as I'm done implementing the packing feature. I seem to recall something similar with the TT save-game files. Those used time-stamps of some sort, I believe. I doubt it will be too much trouble, however. *Knock on wood.* Thanks! Depending on the difficulty of my next project, I might be seeking your assistance frequently. And speaking of newbie questions, how does one enable a file-drag-and-drop onto a running module? sys.argv only seems to work when first opening the module, and simply dragging the file in as input runs afoul of the accursed "truncated UXXXXXXXX escape" error. Thanks! My health, alas, has kept me away from coding for the past several years. But a gap year has its benefits. Could you upload your save-game to Oresome by any chance? I'd like to examine it. What you're describing is rather odd, to say the least.1 point -

@Firedude34; I don't know sorry. Unless you replaced Rocket's car with an Arctic car earlier at a prior point and completely forgot about it, I really don't know what is going on. The problem you described sounds completely irrational otherwise. When you race Rocket Racer in adventure mode, is his car that arctic chassis alone? I just thought of an obstacle in what I suggested earlier. Somewhere else prior I said something regarding the GameSave file, that being, whenever you make a change to any single byte in the file, even if you revert it by changing the byte back to what it originally was, the game doesn't like it and won't load the file for some odd reason, as if it is looking for a signature from the game or something.1 point -
