Playing outside with Halofigs (Caution: Heresy. Breathing masks advised)
Quisoves Potoo and 2 others reacted to Phantom Terror for a blog entry
>The following post contains great amounts of heresy in the LEGO fanbase. If you are strongly opposed to Mega Bloks, TURN BACK NOW< I've always appreciated nature and how beautiful it is. I've also always appreciated how people use it to give pictures a certain charm. So I decided to take my appreciation of the two, my inspiration, and some good ol' Mega Bloks outside to see what I could do. I started doing this in late spring 2014, where I took the only two figures I had (a Yellow Spartan EOD and a Blue Spartan Mk. VI) to a campout to see what I could do. These were the results: Pic1 Pic2 (Linked because big pictures). Not very good compared to my latest work, but these were the sparks that lit the fire. Later that year, I went to summer camp in Germany. Over the course of the week, I was supposed to take 6 to 10 photos around the camp for a merit badge project. I had obtained a duplicate of the Blue Mk. VI, and I decided to bring the two of them with me to take more pictures of them outside. For my project, I decided to deviate from the usual photos of trees and the sky and focused on my figures in various situations. I had fun with that project. After summer camp, I obtained some more figures. But I kept blowing off taking pictures because of reasons. But at the end of summer, I went outside to take another picture. I had taken pictures of my tiny Spartans sporadically over the course of the school year. All of those pictures are sitting on my hard drive and haven't been uploaded yet. But they exist so don't go around saying I didn't do anything with my figures since summer. (Fast-Forward to a few days ago). I got some Bravo Series figures and decided to celebrate by taking pictures. This is something I plan on doing for all of my figures (LEGO included) when I get new ones or if I rebuild one. And that brings us to today. Last night I experimented with the Ranger's energy sword and a flashlight. Here are the results. As you can see, I've greatly improved on what I was doing when I started. This goes to prove that great things come from small beginnings.3 points -

2 pages of replies... ...wow. Maybe this should've been a topic... Aight. Now it's time for me to get involved with the discussion... Yes, if this is going to be a thing, we'd need a strong group of people working BTS who can and will commit themselves to editing. I think it'd be easiest to work with deadlines if they're longer than the more popular YT channels, like a podcast every month instead of every week/other week, or a LP every other week instead of every week. Since we all have lives outside of the internet, we'd need to be able to keep a project like this easily manageable so it doesn't interfere with our daily lives as much. LPs every other week and podcasts every month would also provide ample time for editing (i.e. we pre-record on a Friday night/Saturday a week or so before the announced release date and edit over the course of the week). Motivation is probably more difficult to work with than deadlines imo. I think that we'd remain motivated because we'd enjoy what we were doing. Which would essentially be a bunch of friends getting together to make a video and have a good time, and go into this with the understanding that in order to get to the big stuff, we need to work with a small audience first. I probably should have written all of this in the post, but I made the post intending it to be a community discussion, which looks like has succeeded. I said MC LPs more as an example of what we could do. I understand that MC LPs are probably the most cliche video on the internet, and meant that more as an example (albeit a not very good one). Being RRU, we'd definitely work with other games. Animated shorts would be a great thing to do! But we'd need someone skilled in some form of animation. Shoutbox animations seem even better, because all sorts of mayhem goes on in there, and sometimes it could be considered comedy gold. An RRU Youtube channel was what I meant, but it would be good if we could make a subsection of RRU to put our videos on. I'll let this sit here for a little while and see if anything else comes of it.2 points

Island Xtreme Stunts - modding/file research topic
lukas.tcn reacted to Zed for a topic
Hello everyone ! For the past few months, I have been looking through Island Xtreme Stunts' files. My main goal was to figure out all the characters that you could play as by swapping textures and models. I think I have found almost all of the character textures, but could possibly have missed a few. Here are screenshots for all the character textures in each folder: https://www.box.com/s/ix9ai0ch6ao67ypumwzs If you haven't modded IXS yet or can't the "LIXS" Folder in C:Program FilesLego InteractiveIsland Xtreme Stunts, then you need to make sure you have created a copy of the game that you can run without a disc. For more information, go to: http://www.rockraidersunited.org/topic/1301-running-lego-island-xtreme-stunts-without-a-disc/ After you have created the copy, you can see the files and start modding. Important files are in the cdc folder. Here are all of the subfolders that I have figured out so far: EDITOR - This folder controls all the NPC paths/movements and sets up vehicles on the main Island FE - This folder seems to have to do with the fonts used in the game Z00DEF - Contains all of the following: Gnarly Bones' model and texture (CHAR000.MBK/.BMB) Bricksterbot model and texture (CHAR001.MBK/.BMB) Standard minifig model (CHAR002.MBK) Belinda Blink's texture (CHAR002.BMB) Pepper's hat model and texture (CHAR003.MBK/.BMB) Pepper's model and texture (CHAR004.MBK/.BMB) This folder also contains the model and texture for the clapboard that pops up on the screen and claps whenever you enter or exit a minigame as well as some other files that I haven't figured out yet. Z00INT - Contains files used for the intro cutscene Z01LGI - This folder seems to have to do with the brickimals Z01SPP - Contains all files used on Lego Island, including every character's texture (aside from those mentioned in Z00DEF). Z05KST - Contains files used in the Motorbike Mayhem minigame. Z06CAR - Contains files for the Freeway Frenzy minigame Z07JSK - Contains files used in the Wave Catcher minigame. Z14WWH - Contains files used in the Trouble in Store minigames. Z14WPO - Also contains files that Trouble in Store uses. Z15PHF - Contains all files used in the Puzzle Fit minigame. Z20BTR - Contains files used in the Brickster's tower minigame. Z77BLU - Contains files used in the studio and movie theater that appears in the end of the game. Z96PLN - Contains files used in the Air Chase minigame. Z98PSH - Contains files used in the Ripcord Rescue minigame. The other important thing you should know about the purpose of different kinds of files. Here are all the file formats that have been figured out so far: .BMB files - Texture files* .MBK files - Models* .BHF files - Located in the EDITOR folder, these files seems to control the movements of NPC's and set up vehicles around the main island. I haven't found any models/textures for other hats yet, but It seems that the TOYS.TDF files located in the Z##XXX folders have to do with the hats, plants, and vehicles. I opened the file in Notepad++ to see if I could find anything interesting, but a lot of the text was just junk. There were some interesting phrases, though. Here is what I found in the TOYS.TDF located in Z01SPP: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Xtremestuntman1998/Modding/LIXS/toys.tdf_1.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Xtremestuntman1998/Modding/LIXS/toys.tdf_2.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Xtremestuntman1998/Modding/LIXS/toys.tdf_3.png In case you don't know why I underlined "CHIN" and "DJAB", that is because Shugu's beta name was Chin and DJ Jackitt's was DJ Ablebody. After we have figured the files and if it turns out to be possible to create custom textures (And models if we're lucky), I have the following goals: Extend the game's soundtrack Create Lego accurate textures for all of the characters Improve Pepper's face and appearance to make him look like his physical counterpart Possibly increase the number of changeable hats, plants, and color choices for vehicles and maybe even make higher-poly hats If you have any questions, post them here and I will try my best to answer them . *Credit goes to Acepilot90/IcePlanetAstro for figuring out the purpose of these files1 point -
Hardcoded Things In LEGO Racers 2 [Offsets]
RobExplorien reacted to Fluffy Cupcake for a topic
Confused by all this? Use the tool made by RobExplorien! http://www.rockraidersunited.com/topic/6358-lr2-hex-editing-made-easier/ Want to change Weapon Stats, Camera View, and much more? Well then you've come to the right place! Useful links for calculations: Float Converter Big to Little Endian Converter TIME ATTACK SPEED + GRIP Open your LEGO Racers 2.exe in a Hex editor and jump to the offset 28A2E, you should land on bytes "CC CC CC 3E" (0.4 in float), this is the value. If you didn't land on it, go to the begining of the file and search for "CC CC CC 3E", it will be the 4th result. Speed and Grip share the same bytes, and shield is not included (why would it need to be?). Enjoy your uber fast car without the need of Cheat Engine (which did by the way help me finding this by telling me the value) P.S. While I was messing around, I noticed one of the "CC CC CC 3E" seem to change the scale of something on the menus... FIELD OF VIEW (FOV) Offset is 4A105, the bytes being "00 00 B4 42" (90 in float), if not, search this value from the start of the file, it will be the second one in. Enjoy the change of FOV! CAR BONUS STAT MULTIPLIER (ALL STATS) (fret not, the game calculates as it loads, meaning your adventure mode speed isn't saved in your GameSave file, so the change still occurs even after being maxed upgraded. Oh btw, time trial mode has a stat applied so this affect that too. ? ) Offset is 12FA0C, the bytes being "0A D7 A3 3D" (0.08 in float), if not, search this value from the start of the file, it will be the third result in. Enjoy the new stats changes! BONUS GAME TIME & GOALS ANIMATED MENU BACKGROUND Mystery Bytes Coming Soon ??? Amount of laps and racers set on an adventure track? (This will be tremendously hard, if impossible, as the numbers are so commonly used. It's like finding a needle in a haystack.) Don't ask for gravity, that is controled by the world files, and I haven't gotten my hands dirty in weapons yet, so don't ask about that either. O.T. Maybe someone could program a little patcher tool [that takes input] for all the hardcoded things I find?.1 point -

LEGO Announces Marvel SHIELD Helicarrier
Ben24x7 reacted to STUDZ for a topic
This one had been speculated for months. Finally, LEGO has revealed the SHIELD Helicarrier, seen in 2012's The Avengers and three variants in last year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The set will feature updates to minifigs for Captain America, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Maria Hill for her minifigure debut. There will also be "Microfigures" (Read: "Those minifig-shaped trophies with Marvel printing") of Hawkeye, Fury, Cap, Iron Man, and 8 generic SHIELD agents (Or are they HYDRA??? ) The set can have Power Functions lights and motors added to it (sold separately, of course), and comes with your standard UCS stand and plaque with specs. The Helicarrier will run you $350 USD, $400 CDN, and 270 quid for our friends east of the Atlantic. It will be released officially in March, though VIP members will have access to it as early as February 17. Drome Racers in-game-only models in LDD
Fush reacted to Toa_Of_Justice for a topic
It seems my theory about the Dune Striker being built from pieces of set #8468 Power Crusher was mostly correct. I only needed a couple of half-pins to attach the flex axles. But then I noticed that some of the parts appear to have been edited in the in-game model. For example, the quarter-oval liftarms don't have their curved sections, and the orange liftarm in the middle appears to have been straightened out. So I made two versions of this model. Click any image for a larger picture. Here's the first version, using only pieces from #8468 Power Crusher. Color variants (all possible to build in real life): LXF File Here's the second version, made to look like the in-game model. Color variants (all possible to build in real life): LXF File After I have finished rendering the other in-game-only Drome Racers vehicles, I plan to build, photograph, and post the Dune Striker version made from #8468 Power Crusher in addition to whichever other in-game-only vehicle proves to be most popular. (My real model will have the actual Gali hooks up front instead of those mockup structures.) Next up: Stealth Roadster! jamesster, when you have a chance please provide screenshots of Stealth Roadster. EDIT: Oops, wait a minute! I almost forgot about the TECHNIC/BIONICLE/Hero Factory version of the cow! I'll do that one first, then Stealth Roadster. Playing games is really only a quarter of the job, most the work is in the commentary. It has to be high quality and legitimately funny and unscripted... or else it will just be throw into the pile of "can't make it" of which many thousands of LP'ers currently sit. Oh yes, because Minecraft LPs are some of the most original, uncopied, and efficient use of my time! I love watching someone kill their nth creeper in 10 minutes and carry on with their normal server activities! That is so much fun! Come on, this is RRU. More creative stuff than Minecraft LPs can be done. I know it. Those things are as numerous as bad fanfics, and are often done by the same age group, too. I watch few LPs, and Minecraft ones are a type I never touch because they are so numerous and repetitive they have lost all magic they might once have had (not to mention many people own Minecraft these days). Every once in a blue moon I do a LP (if you've never seen my LPs, go to my channel and watch one. Just prepare yourself.). Who knows, maybe that can be a feature. That would probably be better than a Minecraft LP. tl;dr Minecraft LPs are some of the most cliche, overly done video game uploads on the Web. I know RRU too well to know that something more original can be devised if such an "RRU Tube" project ever takes off.1 point -
