    The bunnies have space suits

Somebody at Silicon Dreams took time to add that little detail and we should acknowledge it for a few seconds.

Technic Promo Discs (Techlab 01, Cyberlab 98)

I've downloaded the ISO. If I have the free time tomorrow, I'll boot up my XP laptop and see how it does. (Got a fully working 12 year old laptop at a garage sale for a dollar a few months ago. Much easier than actually getting any of these games to work on modern hardware.) Updates: Got it working. Had to install Quicktime, that horrible demon of '90s software. Gonna post thoughts as I have them. "Built" the pneumatic claw grabber for the submarine by clicking and dragging parts into not-quite obvious outlines. Click on the land console, taken to a catalog of technic sets based on ground vehicles. I remember being 8 or 9 and wanting this set so bad: The land based game is a racer with bad controls. You hold control to go and you gotta tap the arrow keeps to move around the corners, but its more like your car just pivots 15 degrees. If you don't time it perfectly with the curve, your car just stops. Then you pivot and then immediately stop a car length away because you didn't time the next pivot right. Clicked on something by accident (big door labeled 03) and ended up on this screen saying I'm not allowed to look at next years sets. Not pictured is the incredibly loud siren that plays constantly until you leave the screen. Tried out door number 02 and it loaded up this screen. Click on the truck lets you have a rotate-able view of the set. Just like the catalogs available at the three consoles. Since door 2 opens up to a single set, a set that I'm pretty sure was a summer/fall release in '97, and Door 3 screams at you for trying to look at '98 sets, I check what door 1 does Absolutely nothing. Because thats the door you "entered" through. The implication here is that they wanted to do a Techlab 02 for the Summer/Fall '97 sets and a Techlab 03 for the first '98 sets. Guess that never came to fruition. Dive underwater to go to the sea console or watch a video of the sub in action. The video ends up being an ad for the version of the sub set that came with a CD too. Sub game has you grabbing radioactive waste being dumped by pirates, but its almost impossible to actually play due to bad controls. Sub has a momentum mechanic that makes it tedious to turn the opposite direction and by the time you do, you've built up enough momentum that you fly past the barrel you wanted anyway. Went up the elevator to the air section. Basically just a helicopter on display, the catalog, and the game. The air game also suffers from iffy controls, but its the best of the three. It has a different, but equally bad momentum mechanic like the sub game, but just rapidly tapping the arrow keys makes the game playable-ish. However sometimes you can't fly infront of those background buildings without gaining damage but most of the time you can? I dunno. After I was done I noticed the map key Its kinda neat that each one of those dots shows the places you can stand to look around the lab. All in all, 8 year old me would have loved this if the games had actually been playable. But they're not. And they're not even close to fun. Spent too much time/money on the CGI video trying to sell the sub set than the actual minigames. I didn't really find out anything else though. No real information about how the CD was acquired or anything, which isn't too surprising. Although I feel like if it came in a box of cereal it would have had a cereal company name somewhere.

Technic Promo Discs (Techlab 01, Cyberlab 98)

I came across this about four months ago but forgot to post about it: https://archive.org/details/FOL0297Lego Archive.org says it's in German, but it's actually international, you select a language on startup. It's pretty impressive for its time, it's a pre-rendered 3D Technic lab, you can smoothly look around left/right/up/down by clicking and dragging, and move to different locations by clicking there (think Myst 3 or 4, Google Street View, stuff like that). You plug your helmet into different consoles to get 3D visualizations of sets, watch videos, play minigames, etc. There's also some gamey-ness to it, for example if you go underwater without using an oxygen tank you have a very limited air supply. The performance was pretty bad on the VM I was using so I didn't explore all of it, but here's some screenshots. Does anybody have more info on how this was distributed? Archive.org says Fun Online, but that appears to be strictly a German thing and this is an international promo disc. There's got to be more to it. Here's pictures of the case, courtesy of somebody selling it online: And while trying to find more info on it I came across this site, which lists "Cyberlab 98" as another Technic promo disc: http://www.derstein.de/hauptteil_cds.html Bricklink seems to say it's related to the CyberMaster set... https://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?G=926957UK But somebody here on RRU said they got it "from serial" (cereal?), indicating it was also more of a general promotional thing: I haven't looked for an ISO of it, but if anybody has more info it'd be nice to know.

    ライザメカ (Foyles In-store MOC)

So today at Foyles there was gonna be a Friends building event held by Tim Johnson of New Elementary fame, but at the last minute it was cancelled due to Tim not being able to make it there. Instead of the full event going ahead without Tim, they refunded all the tickets and put up a little pop-up building zone on the ground floor, which me and my mum stumbled across whilst trying to rebook the tickets from todays event to another building event happening on the 23rd. The small area snuggled in the children's section was being run by Mark, who I knew well from Hamleys and had actually told me about the event in the first place (thanks Mark! ). Even though the event was supposed to be generally Friends-themed (they gave us free minidolls), the majority of the pieces were Ninjago-themed, which sorta made sense since there was a ninjago event a week ago. Anyways, I got to work building, and came up with this winged-friends-mech-thing. And because there weren't many people around building and Mark really liked what I did, he let me keep my model. Which was nice. So yeah, I did this. Enjoy? (cat to scale)

Thanks in no small part to Xiron reminding me of something very integral to these things working correctly, I'm happy to say that the technical aspect of this has been more-or-less sorted out, and that it should only really be a matter of finding the time to simply edit and test each conversation file, as each subsequent attempt has been successful so far, and work's going much, much faster.

Two years ago, a day after RRU's 6th anniversary and 9 days before my birthday, I first shoved my ugly mug 'ole in the general direction of this site, and joined because - Well, actually I've never said on here the real reason why I joined in the first place. Mainly because it was so downright silly. I joined to look at... a topic with a nyan cat mod for racers. Really. When I first navigated my way here as a member of the LMBs (that stopped very soon after), I was a bit of a n00b to be honest. Okay, I wasn't as extreme a n00b as some members (jamesbrick and delle come to mind), but I wouldn't exactly call my early posting habits outstanding, to say the least. To be honest, my posting didn't really become decent until the beginning of 2014, when I started drawing again for a community project that sorta went nowhere (and I still kinda doubt it would, but I'd be interested to see it go somewhere). It was a bit weird picking up my pencil again after so many years of not drawing, but now I'm really happy that I'm back to drawing again - And yeah, I've sorta gone off on a weird tangent of talking about my history here on RRU, haven't I? Yep, I should do that less. Anyways, I guess the main reason I wanted to make this post was to thank all of you for making the last 2 years of me being here so enjoyable. Yes, every single one of you. Even the spambots and the n00bs and the 20 different accounts that were dellepack. All of you have contributed in your own unique ways to my online life, and helped me gradually through my real one. I've made a ton of mates through here, and hopefully I'll make more over the next umpteen years here. So yeah, here's to another infinity years here. You ain't getting rid of me that easily - Ayliffe/Jay/Bayleef/Mr Phoenix

    LEGO Worlds News And Discussion

First up, developers posted a picture of the first island ever generated by Worlds. We've come a way, folks. Secondly, most likely due to the constant whining, complaining, impatience, criticism of the developers and attitude of entitlement that plagues the Elimbies Annex (and has gotten on my nerves waaaaaay more than it should have, as many people can testify), a "What we are working on" post has been published. These things won't all be in Update 2, but rather this supplements the planned features list on the store page. Some notable points: Underwater exploration is coming, starting with the camera going underwater with you, also "when you dive down you get blue hearts and limited time to explore, while underwater vehicles will have no such problems!" There will not be a separate gameplay mode, AKA Survival à la Minecraft. The reason? "We feel strongly that the identity of the game would suffer." That being said, they "do aim to draw inspiration from modes and mechanics we’ve seen elsewhere, just not in a packaged story or survival mode." Obviously the camera will continue to be tuned (no mention of first-person mode) They are currently making small tweaks the GUI, but in the longer run it will be overhauled (hopefully for the better) "Also tying in to making exploration and discovery better, we are working on a procedural system for generating towns & settlements." The biggest news here is more details on multiplayer. Starting with the obvious, their engine was initially designed as single-player, local co-op, not online play. Worlds is thus having them reconsider and rewrite a lot of their engine to work in online multiplayer. Maybe this means we can except online play in future TT games, but who knows. They are also adding local co-op with splitscreen. This one is interesting to me as I kinda expected this to be present already. It seems they were actually going to cut it out completely and replace it with online multiplayer. The problem now is such co-op brings performance issues, which have always been present, but by the nature of Worlds, I can see that being a bigger issue now. Update 2 info will be coming out next week.

    Well... Hey

Frosting megachugs. It's good to have you back, brother. I missed our little rants on whether the LegoRR music was actually music or not. There's been a lot; the big thing is DDI's new "revival" project of LegoRR. It's...a mixed bag. I'm not sure what you mean by acting "stupid". I recall you being the same, normal point of sensibility from the day I joined to the day you disappeared. Either way, welcome back.
