I decided to check out the 2005 lego.com today using the wayback machine at http://archive.org/ . Here are some pictures:

It was great to see classic minifigs around parts of the site even though this is the late 2005 layout. I think Lego used to acknowledge the existence of older themes more than they do today. What I liked about the old 2005 site was the layout, games/comics/movies, and the avatar customization (The new one is bland in my opinion).
I will upload some more pictures later. Unfortunately, many of the games, images, and links are broken. I really wish Lego archived this stuff to keep it alive. Even the comic captions are broken! (In case you don't know or remember what that was, it was a contest where members could add a comic caption to two pictures each month. At the end of the month, the winners would be displayed and the new pictures would be uploaded.) You still can view the blank photos that were current at the time, but you can't view any of the previous winners.
Fortunately, some of the games have been restored by the BioMedia Project at http://biomediaproject.com/bmp/ . Not all the games are restored, though.
