    Ice Station Odyssey alternate designs

Here four designs for Ice Planet vehicles that were made solely out of bricks included in the Ice Station Odyssey set. You can click on the images to enlarge them. Robots were missing in the Ice Planet series. Though not as intimidating as the Spyrius bots, it is a start. Another vehicle that makes use of those bulky dome parts. It is completely hold together by a single hinge, which admittedly makes it rather vulnerable and unbalanced once you open it up. Lastly, an alternate design for Ice Station Odyssey. Lots of functionalities are included, like the translation of the rocket over the spare brick compartment by a cogwheel system, the twisting and turning of radars and the displacement of objects by magnets via an arm.

    I'm back!

Hello! I've been gone from RRU for so long! I'm back now though, and going to try to make more of an effort to be more active on these forums; life's been so wild and busy! How was everything been here on RRU? I have not been able to check in or browse much while i was away. Anything big happen or events of note? :-) I'm excited to be back though! I'd like to make an effort to get to know some of the members here! Hope everyone is doing well, See you soon!

Arwings, Wolfens and more - Ships from Star Fox made in LDD

EDIT: Changed the title so that the thread can be continued beyond just one ship Just something I whipped up in LDD recently. I decided to build an Arwing from the Star Fox series after reading up an article on LEGO spaceship construction. I used a few advanced techniques, particularly a decent amount of sideways and even upside-down building, to try and capture the look of this classic space fighter. This specific version is a mashup of the Star Fox 64 (Lylat Wars) version and the one from Star Fox Assault. Some more views:

Arwings, Wolfens and more - Ships from Star Fox made in LDD

The blue wings on the Arwing are the G-Diffuser pods. In the Star Fox series these allow the ship to basically ignore gravity, though if you ask a group of people how they work or what else they do you won't ever get two matching answers. As for greebling on the G-Diffusers, the original design doesn't have anything on it that I can replicate without custom decals. In general, Star Fox ships have a lot of clean lines and flat surfaces. Apart from the Aparoids, there's not really much to use as a basis for greebling. As for structural integrity, I reinforced the wing mount assemblies with 2x3 plates. I haven't built the model IRL so I can't say for certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if they hold up better than they look. As for the Wolfen, again, Star Fox ships have a lot of flat surfaces and clean lines. The Wolfen may be a rougher ship but there's still not much greebling that can be done. As said before, the one shown is based on two different designs: I could add some piping and stuff but that's pretty much it. As for structural integrity on the Wolfen, most of the joints are held together by ratcheting hinges.

    Repetition

Feeling lonely? I like that feeling. As most people will know, I'm rather unsocial and don't see the need for company. Oh, I understand information needs to be passed on, but there's no actual need for company. Doing things like gaming multiplayer can be fun, but there's no need for company as an end. It's merely a means to an end. [/unhelpful]

    Christmas loot thread of 2015

Y-Wing Christmas Ornament with like a full half-minute of sound effects. Pen-Shaped Screwdriver that is way too much trouble to store its various screw-driver heads. A little magnetic levitating platform for displaying miniatures. Strong enough to hold up Lewa Nuva but the power adapter broke after an hour. Some constructive board game that I haven't investigated. A cheap pen with an obnoxious blue LED light on the side. Like, it's on the side of the pen. It blinds the user more than it helps them see things. Chocolate. I tossed most of it to my sister and kept the chocolate orange. Lods of emone. In summary, no LEGO, lots of junk, and money.
