    Shadowblaze - Trap Master

I started this way back when I finished Champion Battle, but I finished it just two days ago. It also went through a bunch of transformations, as this was initially supposed to sound Earthbound-y (you can still hear one of the weird pads often used in the game in the third part of this music though). Anywho, it's done! Enjoy! https://soundcloud.com/officialshadowblaze/trap-master

    Toying with minifigs

in case anybody wants the full resolution of this, here ya go there's still stuff I'd tweak but unity's being dumb and it's not worth the hassle my own models + official models for the accessories, torso texture is the same source as last time, head texture is mine but the eyebrow and mouth are edited from LU, background is edited from one of these > http://vonbrunk.tumblr.com/spacebackgrounds

    Toying with minifigs

I was bored last night and wanted to see what a couple minifigures I'd had sitting around in my head for ages might look like in practice. Usually I just build them IRL (example: my avatar), but these involve custom printing and I CBA to work with decals right now. Plus they were designed in the context of gamey things to begin with, so I just threw them together in Unity with whatever I had access to. The minifigure model is Hollis's as I didn't have a bendy minifig of my own on hand (except for the head, which is mine as his was set up for some funky face animation stuff and I prefer my own UVs anyway). Accessory models are ripped from LU/LDD. Textures are my own except for the Commodore's jacket, which is ripped from Return to Blockland 1.045. The engineer's turret is one of Alcom's LDD models run through bartvbl's OBJ converter. The materials just use the Unity standard shader with the desired colors/textures slapped on, because I'm all artsy like that. Also, LU style blob shadows because nobody wants to deal with realtime shadow artifacts at 4 AM. It's not lazy; it's stylistic and efficient.

    "L'Supervivere": A Steampunk MOC.

Exactly a year ago to the day I posted L'Supervivere up on Flickr, expecting to only get a handful of views and maybe the odd like. For a couple of weeks or so this was the case, and I sorta started to forget that I had this as a thing. Then on March 10th BZPower posted it on their frontpage. Wow that was a shock. Suddenly the amount of views on the image skyrocketed, and the original main image is currently sitting pretty at 3,168 views. That's not bad for a MOC photographed against two pieces of card balanced on a bed. So yeah, to commemorate this MOC turning 1 I decided to use my newly-found photography skills to finally do this model justice with some proper in-situe photos instead of just bland images against a plain white background. Bonne Anniversaire L'Supervivere, you've earned it. (yes I know this is a several-month old bump I'm sorry in advance probably)

    Papu and Rangi

Pretty shortly after Christian Faber posted this video documenting concepts for the original Voodoo Heads that eventually became BIONICLE, someone threw up a topic on Eurobricks offering brick-built versions of the iconic heads. GK733 took the idea and ran with it, using a modified version of one of the heads in this awesome MoC that he dubbed a Great Being. That really fueled my imagination, and now I've built up something of my own based on his design. As you can see, the core of the designs are taken straight from GK733's MoC. What I did was switch things up to bring in more of the Voodoo Head aesthetic. The heads are also completely custom - I feel like the Islanders theme had a strong influence on BIONICLE's earliest conceptual art direction, and made Papu and Rangi to be siblings to Kahuka in design. Together Rangi Side Back Head Papu Side Back Head For those who don't know, Papu and Rangi are easily the most mysterious of BIONICLE characters. Their names are derived from the Mother and Father gods of Maori, Ranginui and Papatuanuku, which is more than likely why they only appear in passing conversation in the Mata Nui online game - once the Maori lawsuit hit LEGO realized they needed to cover up the evidence they were actually using Maori gods in their story fast and had the only places they had appeared thus far, those vague mentions in Mata Nui, struck from the record. I personally believe that they were conceived as the original Great Beings of the BIONICLE mythos, to later be replaced by a bunch of bumbling idiots who decided they were better than everyone else because they had super cool powers. Either way, they were definitely god-tier - Nokama speaks of how they plan the fates and Jala says that they named Ta-Koro as the village of fire. Papu is the blue one - I envisioned her as the warrior of the two and gave her a more dynamic pose to convey that. Rangi is the balancing avatar of knowledge, taking a more hunched and wizened stance. Their attributes are reflected in the Toa Kaita - Akamai of Valor, and Wairuha of Wisdom. Sorry the photos are only okay, I don't have much to work with. Oh! And while we're here, here's another thing I made.
