*poke* LU stuff sure has come a ways since then huh? This conversation reminded me of my earliest posts on the lego message boards about LU: We got the Explorien Bot specialty and the GM-only jetpacks were given out to players just before the game closed (though actually a friend of mine who was a LUP was able to get me one early), so that only left playing as Chip. Merdon just made a nice face texture (see above), so I only needed the torso - I just took a screenshot of Chip's video on the character screen in Stunt Rally, and through a combination of Paint.net and waifu2x (lol, but hey it works) was able to get it looking kinda okay (though it's ended up with DDS artifacts anyway). I reskinned Skee Daddle's original model, so first here he is as an NPC: And then I swapped out the main model with that (turned down the shading quality as it breaks otherwise): There, I've done everything I originally wanted to do in LU.

I haxed a Time Twister into a dead MMO. More probably coming sometime later, ideas welcome. What am I doing with my life. Torso texture is from Return to Blockland something something, thanks to whoever did that. The rest is LU stuff. NifSkope for model tweaking (adding the hat to a minifigure model), Paint.net for texture editing. Injected into a beta version of the game's login screen (though if beta builds worked properly with the "private servers" you could in theory actually get this guy to appear in a world as a proper NPC, too - alternately, get past the live game's anti-hax system, which I don't have the patience for). Yeah I know the hat's a slightly different shade than the body but if LU devs could be that lazy with official character models/textures so can I. There's also some minor editing goofs in the screenshots. Don't quite care about that right now either. First person to ask "how u stil play LU" gets shot with a Rank 3 Inventor's beehive and then pissed on. Further questioning will just result in the pissing bit. Edit: Classic Johnny Thunder. RTB textures again.

I was bored last night and wanted to see what a couple minifigures I'd had sitting around in my head for ages might look like in practice. Usually I just build them IRL (example: my avatar), but these involve custom printing and I CBA to work with decals right now. Plus they were designed in the context of gamey things to begin with, so I just threw them together in Unity with whatever I had access to. The minifigure model is Hollis's as I didn't have a bendy minifig of my own on hand (except for the head, which is mine as his was set up for some funky face animation stuff and I prefer my own UVs anyway). Accessory models are ripped from LU/LDD. Textures are my own except for the Commodore's jacket, which is ripped from Return to Blockland 1.045. The engineer's turret is one of Alcom's LDD models run through bartvbl's OBJ converter. The materials just use the Unity standard shader with the desired colors/textures slapped on, because I'm all artsy like that. Also, LU style blob shadows because nobody wants to deal with realtime shadow artifacts at 4 AM. It's not lazy; it's stylistic and efficient.

In the "So that's how that works" vein, I discovered Blender Paths. And thus I made a trial project. Only problem was that Blender's animation engine...well, it's not the simplest thing to get to put out a .avi. So...I ended up rendering all the images, then porting them into Monkey Jam, then fiddling with the sounds, since Monkey Jam was only allowing me a single track, then waiting for the thing to upload... But, yeah...
