Retro LEGO Comics/Storybooks/Animated Cartoons General Discussion

I was originally going to delay posting this until I had more to share with it, but I think I've waited long enough at this point. Within the past few weeks Per Sanderhage has kindly shared with me some more materials tied to LEGO Publishing's Pirates series, including more try-out pages by other artists who applied for the Illustrator role, the original job outline from Preben Dewald, a number of Character Visualization sketches by Per Sanderhage, and a page from the series' synopsis preceding the manuscript. What's more is that he also shared something unknown up until now - a suggestion he made to LEGO Publishing in 1987 for a Technic-based Action-series, which unfortunately didn't make it very far into development. You can find the aforementioned material in the spoilers below along with quotes describing each: 1987 Pirates Materials: 1987 Technic Action-series Idea:

    CES 2010 GameTrailers Demo

Here's an almost 25 minute long demo of LU given to GameTrailers at CES 2010 (while the game was still in alpha) plus a video interview. They were of course previously hosted and available for download on the GameTrailers website but only the interview is still online. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/rzfcy8eoufxu4/LU_GameTrailers_Videos They were once mirrored on YouTube by somebody but Viacom blocked them. This particular demo shows character creation, the Venture Explorer, Avant Gardens, and Gnarled Forest - pretty much all of the content the alpha test had to provide at the time. Demos like this were given to other sites, though the only other one to get recorded/uploaded was the IGN demo (which skips Avant Gardens and instead shows the early Tiki Island property). The game was also available for the public at CES to play. Videos of all that can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcQ-Py1T_KHSSzt8fqf3RxWtoebOdrxZI Fun fact: All this took place on the same server as the alpha test, and even though most of this took place on days when the server wasn't scheduled to be open, some players (including myself) noticed we could get in anyway. Here's some screenshots I got of CES demos in progress (though we had no idea what was going on at the time - there were mysterious stories of GMs standing in line, doing a dance, then one of them saying something like "ok guys testmap 2" and all of them vanishing, lol.) http://legouniverse.wikia.com/wiki/File:Alpha046.png http://legouniverse.wikia.com/wiki/File:Alpha053.png http://legouniverse.wikia.com/wiki/File:Alpha059.png http://legouniverse.wikia.com/wiki/File:Alpha060.png Another fun fact: That blue spaceship was built by a LUP who also worked on the Moonbase world, and those engine designs also got reused for the Piratron spaceships in the Moonbase. And that GM Molly2 also showed off her fancy GM abilities once by wearing Sky Lane's torso/legs, but in black (Sky's outfit was grey at the time, but those early NPC textures didn't have the primary colors as part of the texture).

    Name a LEGO Restaurant

As the LEGO House continues development (and increasingly makes it apparent to me that it will become my personal Mecca), LEGO's community team has reached out to the fans for naming suggestions for the three eating establishments the House will contain. Go make a post on BZP if you want your voice heard - I've already got the Brickolinis covered!

    Name a LEGO Restaurant

There's also a topic for it over on Eurobricks too - I would've left a suggestion there but Bricknave pretty much suggested the best possible names so I'll leave it at that.

What are you listening to right now?

Rainer Hersch composes a waltz based on sounds from Windows XP. Skip to 1:39 for the actual performance, the stuff beforehand gives some background as to the sounds supposedly used in the tune.
