Slyboots and Senor Palomar cut from LI2?

I have all 40 of the GBA cards, and I can confirm there is no Senor Palomar card. The Adventurers cards include only Johnny Thunder, Achu, Dr. Kilroy, Slyboots, a skeleton and Miss Pippin Reed.

    Portal Racers Models

LEGO's digital offerings these last few years have been a pretty solid stream of "Meh*". TT's upping the variety a bit, but beyond that, LEGO hasn't really put out anything really spectacular since LEGO Universe. One of the more unique offerings is "Portal Racers," a game that you apparently have to have a very specific camera to even /play/. Because that sounds logical. Either way, LEGO does usually offer some pretty nice models with their games - LEGO Minifigures certainly had some better builds in it than that game deserved - and Portal Racers... Well, it's certainly unique. Typically, these sorts of games are F1 Racers with BtF hoverwheels. For Portal Racers, they've gone with "Surfboard with Ludicrously Large Engines". It...honestly looks kind of awkward, from everywhere except the back. But they have some nice greebles, and the two decent reference pictures I can find are both of the Pirate chassis, and I like Pirates, so I figured I'd give it a go. The Rules: 1. If I have to build it solely through guess-work, I'm going to color it magenta(Or "Bright Purple, according to LDD). There may be a second model in the file, with my best guesses as to what it might be colored, but the majenta one is the certain one. 2. I'm building on "best judgement". If I see a stretch of brown seven studs long, and I build it with a 3-stud and a 4-stud, don't blame me if twenty years in the future, a designer recounts that he actually built it with a 1-stud and a 6-stud. For some reason. 3. If you want me to take a crack at a specific car/modules, I need pictures of it. Not an awkward, 20 by 20 pixel snip from a weird angle, but a decent picture from the "Mod Shop" screen. An in-game shot couldn't hurt either. So...Let's get building! Here's my first reference image: I have no idea what is keeping those green bottles in the chest. Also, as far as I can tell, neither of the back engine parts are from the "Pirates" line-up(and therefore, don't get top billing in my building line-up). They look like they're from this set-up - some sort of City car, I guess. No, scratch that, the Disco arrow is pointing at them. Kind of hum-drum for Disco, but "whatever" And the second: The Pirate Modules: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/LindWhisperer/Portalracers/pirate_modules.lxf That might actually be a plate underneath the golden anchor; I can't tell from the angle. A tile made more sense for the placing, so I went with that. The bottle-crate render is showing an empty crate where I've placed the rocker, but it has to be there for the bottles to not fall out. The Pirate Chassis(image flipped): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/LindWhisperer/Portalracers/pirate_chassis.lxf This one is missing a lot of pieces beneath it and in the back - if I had a shot from behind, I could do it better justice. You'll notice that all of the Plate with Holders used in these modules/chassis are curved - this is a modern part, created for Ninjago. And maybe some other themes, but it was really first used in Ninjago. And finally, here's a comparison shot - flipped like the Chassis image, because it looks better: The brackets aren't tilted quite right in the front, because of some sort of collisions issue with the muskets, but other than that... *Apparently, the NEXO Knights app is, "like totally awesome," but I'm not a great fan of NEXO Knights.

Slyboots and Senor Palomar cut from LI2?

Ok, they appear in the GBC game (as do some other Adventurers characters like Gabarro and Rudo Villano). And the GBA game... Well, we'll get to that. But what about PC/PS1? I got some of the original LI2 PC Maya models a while back, and while I can't actually open them due to not having Maya (lol), I looked at them in notepad++ and there's mentions of "SBOOTS" and "SENOR" along where similar things for other characters are listed: connectAttr "SBOOTS_LOD_cameraView3.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SBOOTS_LOD_walk1f_cameraView3.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SBOOTS_LOD_cameraView5.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SBOOTS_LOD_conga2_cameraView3.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SBOOTS_LOD_conga2_walk1f_cameraView3.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SBOOTS_LOD_conga2_cameraView5.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SENOR_LOD_cameraView3.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SENOR_LOD_walk1f_cameraView3.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SENOR_LOD_cameraView5.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SENOR_LOD_conga2_cameraView3.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SENOR_LOD_conga2_walk1f_cameraView3.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; connectAttr "SENOR_LOD_conga2_cameraView5.msg" ":perspShape.b" -na; There's also this card in LI2 GBA which is rendered from a proper model of Slyboots as he would appear in the PC version (like the rest of the GBA cards): I haven't ever collected all the cards in the GBA version - is there one for Senor Palomar too? To get this screenshot of Slyboots's card, I just used savestates to grind picking up the card near Pepper's house at the beginning of the game - which actually only took like three or four tries, actually. But I'd rather not keep doing that until I've seen *every* card (or at least Palomar's, if there even is one)... Edit: lol screw it I'm grinding for cards via savestates anyway. I think this is the DJ...? The textures and hair are different though - he's got a classic sunglasses face, neato! Edit 2: Unsurprisingly I'm only getting a small selection of cards. Ah well, I was hoping they'd made it truly random.

Slyboots and Senor Palomar cut from LI2?

Looks like Sam Sinis- *ahem*... Slyboots is missing his glasses. It's funny that he gets a card in both handheld ports, yet he never appears in the stories I like that version better; he had a classic face in the PS1 version too. The texture is in the PC game files (cropped from text056.tga in z38PAR\textures)

Retro LEGO Comics/Storybooks/Animated Cartoons General Discussion

Thanks for digging these up, Sadie! I really like the character studies on Roger/Red Beard--he looks more like a fit, adventurous rogue than in the final comic. Those tryout pages are awesome! I had to laugh at the epic one that looks nothing like LEGO at all, but it's definitely taken directly from the Golden Medallion. (That's definitely how I imagined the Pirate theme was, though. ) I ran the documents through an online OCR and then Google translate, here's the translated proposal: LOGO Publishing wishes to the following briefing paper to create a concept on the theme of pirates / pirates / privateers. The concept must include the following: Person Characteristics and names. The characteristics must be built-in opportunities for conflicts to an-facing presence in fiction products. Be it books - comic Games - role playing - role play - film. The target audience is primarily boys aged 7-12 years with emphasis boys 9-11 years. Individual characteristic must include both physical and mental characteristics. Required photographic material will be sent when it is released. The drawing an environmental characterization in order to both toy assortment and fiction program. Environmental characteristic must be able to provide a framework for the characters' appearance in "the universe". It should be an attractive visual backdrop for every imaginable product types. Photos of the models be sent when they are released. WE KNOW 26.08.1987 Hold 1 Hold 2 pirate captain governor 1.styrmand deputy 2. Officer soldiers, sailors, civilians including one female (evt.een female figure) figure monkey (these figures is also requested name-parrots, given and character set) The scenes are the Caribbean sea years 1750-1800. There seems a pirate ship of the frigate type, a søfort, one treasure, evt.han-delskibe and warships. It is important in concept to capture the mood and karkteregenskaberne not in any way conflict with the LEGO Group's overall objective. LEGO PUdsnMp Tele0e0ee I.e3 31 30 11 88 tEGOFIwa MS Telex 80787 Mpe6k 2 Denmsrk _ e R.199999 I wonder what the photographic material mentioned looked like; whether it was mostly preliminary stuff to start with or if it was close to/actually was the finished product. Those trial pages vary widely on how close they are to the actual sets/minifigs. The story synopsis didn't come through the process as coherently, but from what I did get it was pretty clear that it's actually a synopsis for the unpublished second Pirate comic. TC

    LEGO Portal Racers

The installer doesn't run unless you have the camera, so I ripped the files from it. The game checks for the camera after the splash screens so I can't play it (not that I expected to be able to, and even if it didn't check I presume there's no alternate control methods). It runs on Unity. I'm gonna have a go at ripping music and perhaps textures from it later. Edit - I'll be dumping stuff here as I go. Here's some texture rips. Audio seems to be licensed/recycled. earthBackgroundMusic is Glory Days, which was in LU's assets but unused (as far as we know, that is - it could have been used in some earlier world). pirateBackgroundMusic is LU's pirate camp music. robotBackgroundMusic is audio network music also used for racing in LU. I don't recognize alienBackgroundMusic. There's also various files just called backgroundMusic: One is Reminders, LU's beta Crocodile Corner/GF Race Place music. Another is LU's beta "shooting gallery"/world stats screen music (yay!). Another is LU's character select/Nimbus Station music. Another is LU's original login music (which was a real pain in the neck to extract properly from LU's FSBs, btw - it was this weird six channel MP3 in a special FMod-related format or something along those lines...). The last one is LU's monument approach music. Got the main asset file extracted, the first program I tried was crashing on it so I had to find another one. Here's some goodies! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=555262 The folder probably won't be public for a while so here's some samples: The four teams are hipster DJs, pirate skaters, aliens, and robots. Here's deeplinks to the mugshots: '> '> '> '> '> '> '> '> And body textures: '> '> '> '> '> '> '> '>

I saw the cover of DOOM Island i made a long while ago, so i decided to make this. (NOTE: The red water is NOT blood, its supposed to be lava, but i couldn't color it orange without coloring the whole image so i just left it red.)
