Johnny Thunder the Ex-Army Officer (and much, much more)

So if you recall, Brickset started their own repository of LEGO catalogs a little while ago. I made the mistake of assuming there wouldn't be much new to see in the new ones they uploaded. Turns out I was wrong. All this stuff is from their uploads of the large UK catalogs. There may well be more stuff in there I haven't come across yet. 1992 Some interaction between Gov. Broadside and Admiral Woodhouse 1993 Another source referring to the Dragon Masters wizard/dragon duo as Merlin and Ogwen. I think the only other place these came up was the audio dramas. Max has 400,000,000 on his head. What the hell has he been doing?! Alludes to a "Blacktron Commander." The thing that happens to him is that he's supposed to be the Blacktron frozen in ice in the one Ice Planet diorama. 1994 Just look through pages 28 - 47. The whole Max Timebuster chase in English. Note that the first page of it has a diorama that actually included three Max Timebusters, so they photoshopped two of them to be different. 1997 The "Time Travellers Zone?" owned This seems to clarify the whole Techdroid business This fig is named Running Bear Early LEGO Island cover art. nice face texture 1998 Sam Grant's backstory. The website suggested is still up and looks like it hasn't changed much. The Insectoids descriptions go into surprising detail about how the different vehicles work together in the Voltstone harvesting operation. Also, two 'Insector' characters, like maybe it's a title or something. Does that resolve any naming issues elsewhere? 1999 Bizarre description that actually appears to tie the international and US versions of the Insectoids story together. Last but not least, a bunch of new Throwbots/Slizer info that is metal as f**** - including, finally, written descriptions of the stories suggested by the art on the discs. Like, sure yeah, the confirmation that the Judge is trying to take over the planet is a long time coming, but like, Ice uses the crystals he finds to "destroy the fur of the bloodthirsty animals that inhabit his continent so they cannot survive the cold." Absolutely savage. So yeah, lots of fun stuff. Edit: oh yeah, almost forgot these guys. Nothing completely new but slightly different from what we've seen before.

Rock Raiders Driller Nights Miniature [+ a new one: Frozen Frenzy]

Originally I wanted to check, if I could improve my 1:16 L.M.S. Explorer MOC, but then I decided to make a micro version of the first level from LEGO Rock Raiders (the pc version). Here is the second miniature: Frozen Frenzy. I had to make some compromises (placement of the rock types etc.), but I think, that it turned out okay. Thank you, sheepandshepherd, for making GeoTool:

Johnny Thunder the Ex-Army Officer (and much, much more)

Geeeez. Lots of fun stuff in here. The bit about Johnny/Sam is especially interesting, given one of the DK books (forgot which, but I think it was one of the more solid/less screwy ones) said Baron von Barron was a former army general. If they got that from a solid source it could make for some interesting possible implied history between the two. I'll take a more solid look through everything when I'm not using a phone.

Red60 just mentioned one of the Star Wars samples in this. Now I'm listening to it.

    LEGO Universe Environment Tests/Prototypes

Forgot if I even posted this here before the rollback but eh whatever Just gonna copy what I wrote for the video description: There's a TON of unused stuff in LU's assets and documenting it all would be a monstrous task. I figured I'd show some of the most interesting stuff though. Maybe more to come. This is all pretty well known stuff to those who have explored the game's contents, but there hasn't been much public documentation of it before, so I'd like to fix that. This first video focuses exclusively on artist's test objects. It appears that each artist working on the game usually had (but was not limited to) two dedicated test objects to call their own. The models for many don't exist, but most of the ones that do are pretty interesting. Note that the client had to have been set to full download for these models to have been downloaded. All of these objects were spawned in the LEGO Club as it had a lot of free space and flat terrain. 0:00 - Objects 8247 and 8251, model names are env_won_wt_testobject1_ma.nif and env_won_wt_testobject2_dm.nif. Interior and exterior of the "Ruins" (of the Nexus Temple) that were supposed to be on the other side of Rivendark Canyon on Crux Prime. 3:37 - Object 8261, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_sr.nif. A snowy canyon with a bunker and crashed spaceship. Collision doesn't match model. 5:36 - Object 8267, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_mh.nif. A portion of the Earth Gauntlet. A complete version (as complete as it was, anyway) of this world was left in the game, Neal has a video of it here: https://youtu.be/kbt663Hbu6c I didn't check to see if this model is any different from the ones used in that map. (A developer then commented on the video confirming that it is indeed an earlier version.) 7:26 - Object 8263, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_ra.nif. A Ninjago Monastery door test. Nothing much. 7:58 - Object 8259, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_sw.nif. Ninjago Ice Dungeon room test. 9:26 - Object 8265, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_tk.nif. Ninjago art R&D. 10:26 - Object 8257, model name env_won_wt_testobject2_ad.nif. Crux Prime rocks previz. Nothing amazing. 10:57 - Object 8249, model name env_won_wt_testobject2_ma.nif. Culling test. 12:09 - Object 8260, model name env_won_wt_testobject2_sw.nif. Ninjago Ice Dungeon test. There's plenty of Ninjago dungeon tests and many of them are blocky rooms like this, but this video is just focusing on this group of artist test objects, so the rest will come later. 13:52 - Object 8254, model name env_won_wt_testobject1_jd.nif. A Ninjago test, but apparently very early as there's only three elements - water, earth, and fire, going by the texture/mesh names. Neal uploaded a video of this, but two textures (env_nj_desertrock.dds and env_nj_waterrock.dds) are missing, and LU replaces missing textures with pink. So in Neal's video a lot of it is... pink-ish. I replaced those two missing textures with nj_rock.dds, which is probably pretty similar to how it was meant to look. Definitely closer than pink. 17:02 - Model env_won_testobject1_mh.nif. There was no object or even rendercomponent that used this model, and going by how it's a prototype of a Forbidden Valley crypt and how it doesn't follow the naming convention of the others, I'm assuming it's an earlier test that just never got deleted. The collision file no longer exists. Made it spawnable in-game via the magic of modding (swapped out the file for another object with it and removed the collision file of the object I changed).

    Worst Lego sets ever

I had a quick look in a Reddit theme regarding the blog post linked earlier about "16 awful LEGO Sets", and someone brought up this; Plump-man and Blobbin.

    Discovering a Relic

On a Saturday morning errand to Target, I found myself doing a strange activity: SINGING "Mama Papa Brickolini!" I am an extremely private and non-expressive individual, and such a display of singing is unheard of from me, even in the privacy of the vehicle. Soon after this bizarre performance, somewhat embarrassed, I began to question my own sanity. As I pulled into a parking lot, I noticed a seasonal kid's consignment sale at the adjacent commercial space. I am one of those ultra-frugal types who scours everywhere from the yard sale, to the thrift mart, to the clearance aisle in search of a cheap brick. At this time I ignored it, as the sale was in the final three days of it's one month sale and fifty percent off everything, which was a pretty good indication that everything of value was snatched weeks ago by a thrifty and feisty mother; thus I continued on my mission to accumulate consumables. Upon purchasing the goods and securing them to the car, I quite impulsively abandoned them to check out the consignment sale. There was nothing appealing in the toys section, so I turned to leave. Spotting the electronics section, I pondered whether a classic LEGO game might be hidden in the collection of ancient videogames. I carefully searched the various titles, beginning to lose hope, yet my flipping through the various titles would soon reveal its merit. In the final box of PC games, I uncovered a copy of LEGO Island! This relic of LEGO gaming is nearly as old as I am, with about five months' difference. Attached to the cover was the price: fifty cents. I quickly ran to the check-out counter, and purchased the game, with a fifty percent discount, plus tax, for a grand total of $0.27 cents! I was ready to leave LEGO Island? the consignment store at this point, anxious to hear the Infomaniac's "WELCOME TO LEGO ISLAND!"
