Nog and I thought of doing an RRU movie night at around 5PM Saturday. The movie(s) would be Unskippable which is a Youtube series that is like MST3000 for video game cut scenes. Who all would be interested? We are going Live now: https://io.synchtu.be:8443/r/rru4 points -

Cool! Didn't know that those characters were actually in the original game. I wonder if Aayla Secura's in there too? That is actually an Astronaut from the Town - Launch Command subtheme: In TCS, most of his parts were available in the character customization (i.e. helmet, head, torso). Can't remember if the air tanks were available, though. I'd take a screenshot if I still had the game.3 points -

My dreams are, alas, mostly inchoate mental regurgitations, so they tend to be uninteresting. That said, I've a darned good memory, so I can still contribute to this thread a bit. But there'll be nothing about the travails of Buddhist missionaries in feudal Japan, alas. 1) Half of St. Louis was, for some reason, turned into a floating city. Every so often, it would dock with the mainland city (there may have been a portal between the two, I'm not quite sure.) I had a flashback to six months-previous, when the transition was still underway and an ad for some tire company was mocking the idea. At some point, the Toa Nuva, looking a bit like their Mask of Light renderings, got involved, but it was rather jumbled by that point. 2) This one isn't interesting for its content, which was fairly unremarkable, but for what I did in it. I was at a get-together at a park (something I used to go to IRL,) only there was a small building there with a computer in. I went in and played on it for a while. When I left the building, at most half-an-hour latter, I found it was already dark and most people were either gone or leaving. For once, I realized the impossibility of this, so my last memory of the dream is a distant of view of myself, outside the building, frantically yelling "It's a dream!" after which a different dream began. 3) This is still, after some years, the most vivid dream I've ever had (with one I had at the age of two or three coming in a close second,) and thank goodness for that. There were demons at my house, for some reason (they may have been babysitters.) They were in incredibly grotesque human form, like nothing my conscious mind could imagine. My brother and my cousin and I were obviously afraid of them, but we just sort of hoped they'd go away. One of them was a midget, and lived in an eighties-computer-monitor. She died in the course of the dream (of natural causes, or at least at natural as they can be for a demon) and I could see newspaper headlines detailing her death and life (she was apparently quite remarkable, beyond her obvious oddities.) Among the things I did in the dream was to play MAME, which had a 3D Indiana Jones game, as well a Mario game which involved him being chased by a giant insect queen. Anyhow, the demons marked us for sacrifice, and the dream ended with me about to make a run for it.2 points -

I was at a programming conference, up on stage in front of a large crowd, giving a presentation called "Everything Wrong About Programmers." It was a huge, self-referential and self-deprecating comedy act that poked fun at programmer's own quirks. It was highly successful, with everybody laughing throughout the whole thing. It went over so well, at the end I was asked to do it again at a different conference. Those who know me know I can't stand being up in front of a crowd, so this definitely counts as a strange dream.2 points -

Hello Everyone! As I was successfully trying to find some unused models for LEGO Star Wars The Video Game, I found these little things: That's Zam from the game! Cool, huh? And a jawa! Buzz Droids are good (though not animated). Spaceman is interesting - Classic Space design by the looks of the chest decal (not sorted animation-wise yet though), and it looks like the Boga was abandoned early in the piece design wise; Let me know if you want more of these unused models. I really like finding these hidden extras.1 point -

I occasionally dream of being in weird buildings or dungeons. Maybe because I've liked video game environments and level design all my life The scary dangerous ones are especially fun. Yesterday's dream was a good one: I was in a Minecraftish game exploring some massive industrial skyscraper. (No idea what that was doing in a Minecraftish game, but eh, dreams don't often make sense.) From the outside, it looked like these buildings in the second Ghost in the Shell movie - lots of rust and pipes running up the sides. The inside was dark, full of machinery, robots, and more pipes. No humans, and it wasn't clean at all. Reminded me of the sewer in Star Wars: Dark Forces. Near the top of the building, a few big spires split off at an angle to the left and right, and at that point I kinda realized I was dreaming, because voxel games don't usually have blocks at 45° angles1 point -

My dreams are always weird, I don't think I've never had a normal dream. Well, except for the times I dream movies. Movies I've dreamt include: Cars Mission impossible one of the 007 films (Specter I think) one of the Naruto films Stargate Zathura Jumanji And a whole bunch more. "normal" dreams include: 1. Climbing a cliff with a floating golden talking Homer Simpson head, with uhhh, various things happening in the background. 2. A Battle royal with light blades on an alien planet. 3. One I had tonight which ended up with me going to a military base and essentially becoming One Punch Man, in this one it felt like I was watching the dream and it ended with me floating in space. 4. People playing 8bit music with fuits and vegetables. There are more of course, but those are the ones I clearly remember, I have done lucid dreaming a couple times before, and am working to get it fairly consistently.1 point -

Considering this is the first thing I've seen since waking up from a pretty crappy sleep, I'll take it as a sign to join in. Interestingly, though, I only remember the least-stressful dreams: My mother and I are at this grocery store. Since the weather's been so warm, the refrigerated food isle becomes appealing and I go over. My mom asks what I think we should get, and I suggest a bag of blueberries, some grapefruit juice, etc. As I suggest more items, and we go down the isle, the food starts appearing more bizarre. I suggest, not sure what it was, I think grapes? but anyway, they look all large and shriveled, like a fig mixed a comically-deflated tomato, and come in packages of six. A store employee walks up to remark about the confusing packaging, and explains how customers keep confusing them with the potatoes, which are very similar but have spikes along the ridge-flaps. My mother's still choosing the best-looking bag of blueberries or whatever, so I walk further down the isle to occupy myself, seeing more strange food. On the way back, I spot normal raspberries and I'm like "Gah, raspberries! That would've been so much better than [grapes?]!" but feel it's probably too late to bring up. I make it back and see that my mom has loaded entire shopping carts full of fresh fruit, cereal boxes, canned goods, etc., and I feel sick thinking about how much it'll all cost, and how we're going to use it all. I now work at this grocery store. A man at the check-out wants some blueberry juice, and I am sent to fetch it. Being new to the store, I have to ask some other people where it might be, as I check the refrigerate-food isles. I eventually give up asking (or maybe someone gives a vague answer?) and start to look for it myself, among hundreds of blueberry products. I eventually find it, but there's two types (one mixed with cherry) and I bring the cherry-mixed one back because I think the customer would like it better. The cap isn't on very tight and some spills on my hands. I walk back only to find, unsurprisingly, I took too long asking around so the customer already left. Nobody looks too upset, but I begin to worry about my job security, and my efficacy. Still new to driving, I have to evade some people by car. My passenger makes me duck into this private parking lot, but then I have trouble exiting. After going in circles, I see the exit sign, but it's horribly worn-down and maimed, and the instructions of how to leave are thus unclear. I figure it out, and on my way, see my dad's car parked here. I express exasperation that he's infringing on the lot's private nature (and I'm still upset I was forced to), but as I look around I'm comforted that not even half the spots are filled up so it's probably not a huge deal. Finally, there's the exit... or entrance. Close enough, I'm leaving this limbo, even if I need to crash through the barrier. Bill Maher is overseeing some construction work there. My passenger wants to roll down the window to yell at him, and I beg them not to be ridiculous/cause a scene. This dang grocery store again; I wasn't even hungry this morning. This time I'm shopping there with my sister. We bump into someone I feel I'm supposed to know (i.e. a friend of my parents), and he leaves with a very-awkward wishing of a Merry Christmas. My first thought was, "wow, and I thought I'm bad at salutations". My second thought is "Hey, I guess it is Christmas." That must have been what the shopping was for: dinner. We drive home and it's raining. I find myself really loving that atmosphere far more than the snow equivalent, but with anxiety think about the global warming responsible, and the implications it'll have on summer (tornadoes being one concern). Huh, I almost feel more rested just typing these out. I guess that's good.1 point -

Rock Raiders Wave Two?
Quisoves Potoo reacted to BobaFett2 for a topic
Given the level of complexity of sets back then (excessive juniorization), I find it unlikely that they would have had too much environmental stuff. If they did have one that showed off the underground nature of the theme it would probably just have utilized BURPs/LURPs, a rock with crystal inside, and a few pieces to help make the BURP/LURP feel more like part of the scene. My guess is that wave 2 wouldn't be entirely, or even largely, models from the game. They probably would have expanded the theme a bit and given how other the other multi-year action/adventure theme from that time, Adventurers developed, probably changed scenery. They didn't really keep any themes in the same place from year to year - stuff like Space, Aquazone, Time Cruisers, Castle, and so forth (with slightly earlier/later releases) always saw significant shifts between years. The only real exceptions are Star Wars (sets came from all episodes to start with) and BIONICLE (2001-2002 didn't have any real palette shift). This would probably mean some degree of palette shift (see above). All just speculation, of course, but it would fit the patterns I've noticed from the 90's through the early 00's.1 point -
LEGO Universe Environment Tests/Prototypes

Forgot if I even posted this here before the rollback but eh whatever Just gonna copy what I wrote for the video description: There's a TON of unused stuff in LU's assets and documenting it all would be a monstrous task. I figured I'd show some of the most interesting stuff though. Maybe more to come. This is all pretty well known stuff to those who have explored the game's contents, but there hasn't been much public documentation of it before, so I'd like to fix that. This first video focuses exclusively on artist's test objects. It appears that each artist working on the game usually had (but was not limited to) two dedicated test objects to call their own. The models for many don't exist, but most of the ones that do are pretty interesting. Note that the client had to have been set to full download for these models to have been downloaded. All of these objects were spawned in the LEGO Club as it had a lot of free space and flat terrain. 0:00 - Objects 8247 and 8251, model names are env_won_wt_testobject1_ma.nif and env_won_wt_testobject2_dm.nif. Interior and exterior of the "Ruins" (of the Nexus Temple) that were supposed to be on the other side of Rivendark Canyon on Crux Prime. 3:37 - Object 8261, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_sr.nif. A snowy canyon with a bunker and crashed spaceship. Collision doesn't match model. 5:36 - Object 8267, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_mh.nif. A portion of the Earth Gauntlet. A complete version (as complete as it was, anyway) of this world was left in the game, Neal has a video of it here: https://youtu.be/kbt663Hbu6c I didn't check to see if this model is any different from the ones used in that map. (A developer then commented on the video confirming that it is indeed an earlier version.) 7:26 - Object 8263, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_ra.nif. A Ninjago Monastery door test. Nothing much. 7:58 - Object 8259, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_sw.nif. Ninjago Ice Dungeon room test. 9:26 - Object 8265, model name is env_won_wt_testobject1_tk.nif. Ninjago art R&D. 10:26 - Object 8257, model name env_won_wt_testobject2_ad.nif. Crux Prime rocks previz. Nothing amazing. 10:57 - Object 8249, model name env_won_wt_testobject2_ma.nif. Culling test. 12:09 - Object 8260, model name env_won_wt_testobject2_sw.nif. Ninjago Ice Dungeon test. There's plenty of Ninjago dungeon tests and many of them are blocky rooms like this, but this video is just focusing on this group of artist test objects, so the rest will come later. 13:52 - Object 8254, model name env_won_wt_testobject1_jd.nif. A Ninjago test, but apparently very early as there's only three elements - water, earth, and fire, going by the texture/mesh names. Neal uploaded a video of this, but two textures (env_nj_desertrock.dds and env_nj_waterrock.dds) are missing, and LU replaces missing textures with pink. So in Neal's video a lot of it is... pink-ish. I replaced those two missing textures with nj_rock.dds, which is probably pretty similar to how it was meant to look. Definitely closer than pink. 17:02 - Model env_won_testobject1_mh.nif. There was no object or even rendercomponent that used this model, and going by how it's a prototype of a Forbidden Valley crypt and how it doesn't follow the naming convention of the others, I'm assuming it's an earlier test that just never got deleted. The collision file no longer exists. Made it spawnable in-game via the magic of modding (swapped out the file for another object with it and removed the collision file of the object I changed).1 point -

*poke* LU stuff sure has come a ways since then huh? This conversation reminded me of my earliest posts on the lego message boards about LU: We got the Explorien Bot specialty and the GM-only jetpacks were given out to players just before the game closed (though actually a friend of mine who was a LUP was able to get me one early), so that only left playing as Chip. Merdon just made a nice face texture (see above), so I only needed the torso - I just took a screenshot of Chip's video on the character screen in Stunt Rally, and through a combination of Paint.net and waifu2x (lol, but hey it works) was able to get it looking kinda okay (though it's ended up with DDS artifacts anyway). I reskinned Skee Daddle's original model, so first here he is as an NPC: And then I swapped out the main model with that (turned down the shading quality as it breaks otherwise): There, I've done everything I originally wanted to do in LU.1 point -

[11:50:25 PM] Joe: Now i have a better idea what to except when going to Australia [11:50:47 PM] McJobless: It'll go like this when you get to Australia. [11:51:05 PM] McJobless: Firstly, you'll walk off the plane and wonder if you somehow made it to Asia instead of Australia. [11:53:02 PM] McJobless: You'll walk through security which are quite frisk-happy and love to ask your random, annoying and ridiculous questions, and if you so much as laugh at their accent, be prepared for a smack-down from the army-sized security force nearby. [11:53:41 PM] McJobless: You'll then walk into the food court and wonder why you're back in America, before realising that the food portions are tiny and the prices are over-inflated. [11:54:22 PM] McJobless: You'll then walk out to the Taxi bay and attempt to figure out why every single driver looks exactly the same, and why the prices for a short taxi trip are equal to launching a space shuttle to the moon. [11:54:46 PM] McJobless: Once you get to the CBD, you'll be confused at why you've suddenly arrived in London. [11:55:41 PM] McJobless: You'll walk around and notice that the hobos are calling you cunts, the teenagers are all cosplayers with nothing better to do than sit outside a church and scare the living ghosts out of the priests, and that Woolworthes sell a great chicken. [11:55:56 PM] McJobless: So, you'll then probably want to know what to do for entertainment, right? [11:55:59 PM] McJobless: Well, too bad. [11:56:34 PM] McJobless: You'll go ask your way to IMAX, and find that every single person you talk to has no idea what an "IMAX" is and suggests that you should "f**** off, c***." [11:56:57 PM] McJobless: You'll then figure out its in Darling Harbour, and make the spectacularly stupid desicion to get a bus there. [11:57:17 PM] McJobless: You'll get on the bus and the bus driver will immediately kick you off for having money. [11:57:48 PM] McJobless: So, you eventually somehow know to go to a newsagency and buy a prepaid ticket. But then you find out they've closed for the day because "Couldn't be arsed". [11:57:55 PM] McJobless: So you suddenly realise 7/11 sells tickets. [11:58:08 PM] McJobless: But then they tell you they only sell weekly tickets at extortionate amounts. [11:59:04 PM] McJobless: So you buy the ticket, get on the bus, fumble with the ticket at the driver gets increasingly more annoyed, even though he's the one causing the problems, and then proceed to stand-up on the bus, because every other seat is taken by familys, druggos and morons. [11:59:21 PM] McJobless: Then you get to Darling Harbour and you'll accidentally walk into the Chinese Gardens. [12:00:08 AM] McJobless: You run around for 6 hours not knowing why you're stuck in France, before finally finding the exit and walking through a gaint fountain of birds that are practically painting the roads with bird-s***. [12:00:49 AM] McJobless: Then you see the IMAX theatre near the ACTUAL harbour, because you find out that buses are afraid of water and they decided to put the bus-route 1KM away from the actual Harbour itself. [12:01:14 AM] McJobless: So you walk under the Harbour Bridge, pissing your pants as you hear the creaks and groans of the Bridge which sounds like it's about to collapse at any minute. [12:01:39 AM] McJobless: Once you've reached the Harbour, you're then trampled by the thousands of people flocking to laugh at the street performers. [12:02:15 AM] McJobless: You'll see some aboriginals blowing their pipes, some guy riding a s***ty bike and some chick singing a song. [12:02:58 AM] McJobless: Once you get up and carefully move past all the people telling you "Get out of my f****ing way or I'll deck ya", you'll then find out that the enterance to the IMAX theatre is next to this crappy cafe that sells nothing from this century. [12:03:24 AM] McJobless: You're puzzled, so you walk up the 10 billion stairs it takes to get to the actual reception of the theatre, before making a shocking realisation. [12:03:35 AM] McJobless: That the movies IMAX is presenting are also from a century ago. [12:04:08 AM] McJobless: So, you're tired and you're bored, and you shell out your arm and leg to buy a ticket, and after about 5 hours of waiting by the frozen ice-cream stand, you finally get to go in. [12:04:25 AM] McJobless: You find yourself crampped between a fat guy and 19 6-year olds. [12:04:53 AM] McJobless: You then have a miserable experience because you realise that the 3D glasses they give you are extremely tiny and can't fit around your head. [12:05:16 AM] McJobless: You eventually leave at about 10PM, staggering around, jet-lagged, hungry, thirst, tired and not in a good mood. [12:05:29 AM] McJobless: You then realise you've no idea how to get to your accomidation. [12:05:54 AM] McJobless: You ask around and they all tell you "Keep walking, drugged c***" [12:06:01 AM] McJobless: So, you decide the train is a good idea. [12:06:05 AM] McJobless: This is not a good idea. [12:06:54 AM] McJobless: You get on the train at 11PM at night, which also happens to be the time when every single moron teenager with half-a-brain-cell who is doped to high-heaven is also taking the trains to Kings Cross, aka "The Murderbowl" [12:07:43 AM] McJobless: So, you get beat up on the train for not lickiing the shoes of every single person in the carriage, but eventually you arrive at Central, and you walk out. [12:08:02 AM] McJobless: Then you panic, because Central station is like Hedge Mazes on hardcore. [12:08:22 AM] McJobless: Finally, at 2PM, you find out that if you keep going right, you eventually get to an exit. [12:09:00 AM] McJobless: You walk out and promptly get punched in a gut by a hobo, before officers walk by, look at you and then continue onwards, because you're a tourist and nobody likes tourists. [12:09:31 AM] McJobless: So, you crawl your way to some s***ty hotel in Central, which is filled with ganstas and prostitutes, and realise reception has chucked a sick day. [12:09:44 AM] McJobless: So you then just crash in the lobby and hope that tomorrow will be a lot better. [12:09:49 AM] McJobless: Spoiler Alert: It won't. [12:09:51 AM] McJobless: The End.1 point
