Alpha Team Set Comic Revisions
Ben24x7 and 8 others reacted to lol username for a topic
The Alpha Team sets all had comics in the instructions. But it seems in the first line of sets, at least one comic was altered, and another removed entirely, apparently due to 9/11. First, the comic that was removed - the one in the instructions of 6775 Alpha Team Bomb Squad. All instruction scans I've been able to find online are the version without the comic, but Pereki has the original print and grabbed some quick pics: http://imgur.com/a/uLrxn Now the comic that was altered - 6776 Ogel Control Center. Here's the version you can find in online scans: http://lego.brickinstructions.com/lego_instructions/set/6776/Ogel_Control_Center_ But, in this Eurobricks review of the set, the reviewer points out it was altered: That page isn't in the scans you can find online. Sadly they didn't say exactly what the changes were. It's possible it was simply the removal of that page (though there'd probably have to be at least two pages removed or altered, because it's a physical booklet), but we don't know. So: Does anybody have an original print of the Ogel Control Center instructions with the comic intact, and if so could you provide more info on it? Thanks. Also, while I don't think any other comics were altered, you can find scans of them all here if you want to compare them with your physical copies: http://lego.brickinstructions.com/en/lego_instructions/theme/lego_alpha_team/2 It seems most of the instructions on LEGO.com have been stripped of the comics, even front and/or back covers with alternate builds, etc... https://wwwsecure.us.lego.com/en-us/service/buildinginstructions/search#?search&combined=10000-20085%3B2001 So probably best to stick to fan sites hosting instructions.9 points -

Back in 2008, when I was recording the Alpha Team soundtrack, I did a Google search for "Beat Revolution" and found their website, which contained music samples from their work (including a small snippet of the Alpha Team main theme). Unfortunately, as I went searching for it again just now to give you a link... I can't find it at all. The domain name must have expired or something. So, because I knew this would keep me up at night otherwise, I went digging. First stop: the Wayback Machine. Just on a hunch, I tried "beatrevolution.com", and to my surprise, I got a positive result on the first try. Here it is! And... it's completely broken. Thanks, Flash. But, it's a start. From what little I recall, I think it was a music production company that dabbled in different genres (but, since this was eight years ago, take what I say with a grain of salt... blimey, was it really that long ago that I recorded the Alpha Team soundtrack?). Perhaps along the lines of Bob & Barn Ltd., which did the BIONICLE: The Game soundtrack... except "Bob" and "Barn" refer to two specific people (Paul Arnold and Andrew Barnabas, respectively), so then again, perhaps this analogy doesn't quite work... but then again, the "About Us" page shows the pictures of two guys, so maybe it does work... So, if it's a company with a website that no longer exists, then perhaps they're no longer in business? tl;dr Beat Revolution had a website, not anymore, Wayback Machine version is missing a lot of stuff, and I just casually showed up again at RRU after months (years?) of inactivity without making a big deal out of it.4 points -

Chapter 10 - Templar "Sir Oppressalot Arrives" According to the Great Minifig Mission, Duke Exeter is suggested to be a more subversive individual than we see him later on. It can be surprisingly difficult to format terrain. You have to keep up with all those layers, and if you get a color wrong or a slope in the wrong place you may need to completely uproot half the model. These small, curved slopes do wonders for landscaping, and I still have several large Pick-a-Brick cups' worth of them for a later use. There isn't really all that much to say about this one, other than please pity your local landscapers.4 points -

The music in Alpha Team is simply credited to "Beat Revolution". I haven't looked *extensively* but as far as I can tell that's all that's really known for sure. I was trying to figure out who exactly is behind Beat Revolution, but it's not a name you can get clearly relevant results for easily on google. Best I've come up with so far is this: http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Fletcher_Beasley I'm thinking maybe this guy did the music for the game (at least partially), given that page, and this amusing dub of the Alpha Team intro done by a student of his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZAe2G8HsOQ "This was my sound design project I did at the Entertainment Technology program. Under the tutelage of Fletcher Beasley." So yeah. I'm guessing he was probably involved at least to some degree, though the fact that they credited "Beat Revolution" instead of just him makes me wonder if other people were involved too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anybody know more?3 points -

I just did some more snooping... as per the norm, you might observe. The 2011 version of the Beat Revolution website is called "peter kerekes music and sound" on the tab, which prompted further investigation. Peter Kerekes is the co-owner of Beat Revolution, and was also a composer and sound designer, from 2000-2007 (incidentally, the trademark for Beat Revolution's logo was cancelled by 2008). He currently works at NMD Music and Sound as a freelance composer, music producer, and sound designer. Some more searching around LinkedIn yielded another name: Fletcher Beasley, a composer / music producer / mixer / technology specialist who was a partner and composer for Beat Revolution from 2000-2006.3 points -

Oh my goodness. It's that dang Rock Raiders commercial all over again! While I don't own the Ogel Control Center set or instructions, but I've got a friend who did (still does?). Years and years ago, I read those instructions at his house and I remembered the comic, and the page where Bloggle Blocket drops a ton of Mind-Control Orbs on an unsuspecting crowd of civilians, turning them into Skeleton Drones. That was the last time I ever saw that page, since all online instructions skip right over it (just like you said, so I'm just being redundant for the sake of storytelling). Of course, this was so long ago that it's probably not worth contacting said friend to ask if he still has the instructions. Heck, I can barely remember where I put my own stuff from two minutes ago, let alone an enclosed instruction booklet from 15 years ago! But, I just wanted to say "thanks" for validating my memories and confirming yet again that I'm not that crazy. Anyways, on a more positive note, I got the Bomb Squad set back in 2004 and it actually came with the comic. If Pereki hadn't already got pics for you, then I would've been happy to scan them myself. I had no idea this comic was supposedly "missing" from online sources.3 points -

I NOW AM ON TWITTER PEEPS https://twitter.com/_Shadowblaze You might have noticed that title looks just a tiny bit off. It's a reference to Earthbound. Anywho! This is just a fun tune inspired by the aforementioned game, as I can't seem to find anybody who can make this kind of music. Nexus Farce: IoI Vignettes
Ben_R_R reacted to Brigs for a topic
As the title implies, these are the vignettes which accompany Nexus Farce: Ingress of Imagination. Below are alternative views of the models and a brief description. Chapter 1 - Johnny Thunder and the Quest for the MacGuffin "Johnny Thunder and the Quest for the MacGuffin" Much of this model's inspiration ostensibly comes from classic Adventurers sets and the slightly more recent Indiana Jones sets. The eponymous MacGuffin is a Voltstone from the Insectoids theme, which is called an Imaginite Crystal in LEGO Universe. Includes one Johnny Thunder and one affable dismembered skeleton. The symbol behind our hero is a simplification of the insignia seen inside the Nexus Temple in the story cinematic trailer. The elevated region is also shaped after the insignia. The First Builders and Mythran apparently have a penchant for triangular geometries. A dozen of those useless flick-fire projectiles are embedded in the wall, and to their right is that one conspicuously protruding brick. A couple friendly swinging blades are suspended to the left, and the obligatory lava pit sits beneath. Skeleton.1 point -

I noticed their website seemed to be loading a random background music track each time I refreshed the page, until one time I got the Deep Sea Orb Factory build music (the full loop of it, even, though in sorta low audio quality). Which isn't really helpful I guess, but interesting. Edit: There's an old html version of their site that works! https://web.archive.org/web/20010309174728/http://www.beatrevolution.com/ ... and, uh, their "About Us" page isn't exactly helpful. :\ Ah yes, "Our talented composers" certainly helps our search Edit: Whoa whoa whoa, wait, on the samples page! https://web.archive.org/web/20070707213207/http://www.beatrevolution.com/mp3/Legotheme.mp3 That's definitely not the version of the theme heard in-game! That is, it seems higher quality. It's not the full thing though. :c1 point -
Nexus Farce: Ingress of Imagination
aidenpons reacted to Brigs for a topic
Indeed, Peabody Sam's masterpiece, Johnny Thunder Blows This Taco Stand, heavily inspired the stylistic direction and tone of the Nexus Farce. We're over halfway through Ingress of Imagination now, but I have ideas for a continuation should I ever bother with one. The images are all of real models; I have always preferred tangible models to virtual ones. My brother has a secondary interest in photography, and has a reasonably nice camera and lens, to boot. He's taped together a white-backdrop studio, complimented by a bunch of adjustable lighting instruments to deal with those pesky shadows. The camera is mounted on a tripod, and the lens is manually adjusted to be in focus. I suppose it's a testament to his photographic acumen that you might mistake it for a rendering! Chapter 11 is up. Chapter 9 - Space is a Figurative Ocean "Hael, no!" Typhonus's contact proved less reliable than he had hoped... Above Hael Storm is the conveniently minifigure-accommodating air vent, with this grille as the access point. The bottom of the ventilation system employs these containers for an industrialized appearance. This one was a challenge to shape. Though nearly invisible from interior shots, the sloped walls are lined with hinge bricks for a nice 30-degree angle offset. This model finally presented an opportunity to use the large Insectoids appendages as support beams. The guard's innards are spattered across the floor, leading me to question why the LEGO Group ever thought producing this element in red was a good idea.1 point -

Chapter 3 - Albert "Pants Party" In all of its glorious inebriated splendor. This one's my indisputable favorite of the batch. Notion Potions are actual consumables in LEGO Universe. I represented it with this obscure piece in trans-medium blue, which works surprisingly well. Anyway, this acid trip is the spawn of the progenitor to this story, which was originally titled "Expedition". Albert had a really depressing and cliche-ridden backstory that surpassed the nebulous PG rating back then, which this parodies in an only slightly less objectionable form. But enough of that; the morality police may be surveilling us!1 point -
