NECA Pacific Rim Figures
Dazzgracefulmoon and one other reacted to Phantom Terror for a blog entry
So my birthday was two days ago. Yay! With that came a purchase from Amazon that included the NECA 7" Ultimate Gipsy Danger and I haven't been this excited about something arriving in the mail for a long time. This figure is fully articulated and comes with a plethora of accessories such as two plasma cannons, two chain swords, a reactor burst, and interchangeable hands. On top of all of that, it also incorporates a light feature into the chest reactor while retaining upper torso articulation! After purchasing it I knew that I had to get the other four main Jaegers from the movie and immediately started searching for Crimson Typhoon, Cherno Alpha, and the Ultimate Striker Eureka in the 7" size range. Initially disheartened by the fact that the latter costs nearly $50 on Amazon and the former two cost almost $40 each despite being standard edition figures, I took to ebay to see what I could find. Fortunately, I found somebody selling Ultimate Striker Eureka for $19.97 w/ $8 S&H and quickly jumped on that bargain, so yay for ebay! I've also found a seller in China who's selling Cherno and Crimson for $27 each with free shipping, but I'm waiting until after I get a new phone and take on another dogsitting job before I get those two. Also because NECA's a corporation hell-bent on sucking every single penny out of your wallet, I have to buy the 7" Hong Kong Brawl Gipsy Danger that includes the boat bat. Because you can't have a Gipsy Danger without having the boat bat. I'm looking forward to having the Jaeger resistance on my shelves...2 points -

Makuta, Master of Shadows
Lair reacted to Phantom Terror for a topic
I updated the MOC... Flickr My entry for the Makuta contest going on over at Rebrick. My goal for my entry was to portray Makuta as more of a king or general who commands a shadow army while circling back to the part of the story that was emphasized at the beginning of the new BIONICLE of Makuta and Ekimu being brothers and including parallels to the 2016 version of Ekimu such as a shield that utilizes the same clip system, a staffed weapon, and a similar stature. The "gold" bits on the knees are homemade stickers to distribute gold lower on the body. To get the color close enough to LEGO's I researched the color codes that Bricklink or other websites documented as the official LEGO color, printed out a sheet of square labels in the color, applied them to the knees, and cut them to fit. Another small thing that I researched was military uniforms and different articles used to denote honors or power, which I worked in with something akin to an Aiguillette, which is a cord worn on ceremonial uniforms.1 point -

Rock raiders 2
Lord7864 reacted to risingstar64 for a topic
There are elements of the AI that take away from gameplay (such as their inability to shoot at enemies from the correct range, their tendency to 'shut down' if the map is too active, or their love of running straight into dynamite in search of the perfect rubble to sweep). But then there are some elements that mostly just add some personality to the raiders (their random deviations when moving towards a task that can lead to them running on walls or through otherwise ordinarily unpathable areas, the way that the hungrier they are, the more groggy and even unresponsive they get until they are able to fill their stomachs back up with sandwiches, or the way they are hindered by harmless NPCs like bats and spiders). Perhaps I am alone in this, but I feel that the latter examples are a part of what makes the original raider AI so much fun; unlike the units in a typical RTS which respond perfectly and instantly to 100% of your commands, the raiders in rock raiders act like they are just following orders to the best of their abilities, which leads to the player having to adapt to the sometimes unexpected ways that the raiders respond to the player's inputs. I just don't think a remake would be complete without re-introducing these mechanics in a somewhat less game breaking, but still fun and unpredictable way.1 point -
Rock raiders 2
Lord7864 reacted to risingstar64 for a topic
It's difficult to stay motivated when working on a fan-remake of a game, due to the fact that doing so requires a large time commitment and effort for something that cannot make any money, and may well be shut down by the copyright holder, invalidating a tremendous amount of hard work. This is a very common issue surrounding game fan-bases in general honestly. I think the only reasonable solution is to gather enough talent in one place that work on a remake or successor can be divided into a more manageable amount for each developer, but that is obviously much easier said than done, especially for a very underappreciated game like Rock Raiders. The good news though is that Rock Raiders is not a particularly complex game by modern standards, it just becomes tricky trying to make sense of some of the weirder level file data, and attempting to replicate the clunky yet charming Raider AI (and don't forget trying to make sense of your own practically unreadable code )1 point
