LEGO Racers - Windows 10 Setup Guide

This tutorial was written for the 1999 version of LEGO Racers, so you may not need to follow steps 3-6 if you have a different version. It is important that you follow these steps in the exact order specified, or you may have trouble launching the game. 1. Insert the LEGO Racers disc into your PC. Rather than install the game conventionally, you will need to download le717’s Racers Alternate Installer here. 2. When the executable file has downloaded, run it and follow through the steps. Once completed, uncheck “Launch LEGO Racers” and press “Finish” to close the installer. 3. LEGO Racers uses SafeDisc protection (at least, the 1999 version does), which is no longer supported in Windows 10. You can however re-enable the driver that SafeDisc uses, but only do so when you wish to play LEGO Racers and other trusted games as it was removed for a reason. Open a folder in Windows Explorer, such as Documents. Click “File”, then mouse over “Open command prompt” and choose “Open command prompt as administrator”. 4. Type in (without quotes) “bcdedit /set TESTSIGNING ON”. Press enter and it will state “This operation completed successfully.” Now you can close the command prompt. 5. Download this file, extract it and place the “SECDRV.SYS” file into the following location: C:\Windows\System32\drivers Then restart your computer. 6. Upon logging back in, you should see text in the lower-right corner of your desktop, along the lines of “Test Mode Windows 10 Home” with some random nonsense after. You will need the Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider to actually make the SECDRV.SYS driver work. Go to this page and click “Download” at the bottom, then choose “Agree” to download it. Right click dseo13b.exe and select “Run as administrator”. Press Next, then Yes, and you’ll be at the main menu. Check “Sign a System File” and press Next. Now you will need to type in the location of the SECDRV.SYS file, which should be: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\SECDRV.SYS Click OK and OK again, then in the main menu check “Exit” and press Next. 7. The game should now launch without trouble, but it can also be made widescreen and prepared for easy modding. Download JrMasterModelBuilder’s JAM Extractor here. 8. Extract the folder and you’ll see files inside, including a “JAMExtractor.exe” file. Copy the “LEGO.JAM” file from your installation directory and paste it here. Then drag the pasted “LEGO.JAM” file onto the “JAMExtractor.exe” file to extract it. A new LEGO folder will appear when the program is finished, and your folder should look like this: 9. Open the “LEGO” folder, select the “GAMEDATA” and “MENUDATA” folders inside, and move them into your install directory. When that’s finished, you can delete the extracted JAMExtractor folder, including all files inside. Then rename the “LEGO.JAM” file in the install directory to “BACKUP LEGO.JAM”. Your install directory should now look like this: 10. Finally, to run the game in widescreen at custom resolutions, first download WillKirkby’s LR1 Launcher here. 10. Extract the downloaded ZIP and move its “LR1Launcher.exe” file into the install directory. Set the compatibility options to run the application with administrative privelages, by right-clicking it, choosing “Properties”, and entering the “Compatibility” tab. Then check “Run this program as an administrator” as shown below. 11. Run LR1Launcher.exe (you can make a shortcut to it elsewhere if you wish), select your desired resolution and check boxes as you wish, then click Launch and play LEGO Racers! When you’ve finished, follow steps 3-4, this time entering “bcdedit /set TESTSIGNING OFF”. Reboot the computer and it will be back to normal, with LEGO Racers not launching again. In future you will need to follow steps 3, 4 and the latter part of 6 - enabling test mode, rebooting into it and signing the driver - whenever you wish to play the game, but it’s far less hassle than using a virtual machine or transferring files to an old XP computer if you’re modding.

PAC Extractor 2.0 (now with -all option)

I recently found a couple of bugs in my old PAC Tools, so I've gone and re-written a new version of my PAC Extractor program. You may ask why I haven't re-written the PAC builder program. Well, the answer is that I have discovered that Alpha Team will read files directly from the program's folder (all files must be in the same folder as the .exe). This is great for modding possibilities, since if a modified version of a file exists in the 'LEGO Alpha Team' folder, the game will read it INSTEAD of the one in the .pac archives. It also means that to mod the game, no .pac builder is required (I also can't figure out how to properly rebuild a .pac file, so that's your real reason ) Anyway, here's a link to the file: https://www.rockraidersunited.com/files/dl-r207/ It can also extract ALL of the games .pac files at once. Just extract 'PACExtracter2.exe' to your 'LEGO Alpha Team' folder and run it with '-all'. Example: "PACExtracter2.exe -all" (without the quotes) NOTE: When using '-all', It will extract each pack file into a folder of the same name. If you modify any of these files, you'll need to move them into the same folder as the 'LEGOATeam.exe' file to make the game load them. EDIT: As requested by le717, here is a utility for rebuilding .pac archives. https://www.rockraidersunited.com/files/dl-r208/ To use it, extract the exe to your hard drive and run it from the command line. You'll have to pass it 2 parameters: the path to an existing copy of the .pac file you want to rebuild, and the path to the folder that contains all the extracted files. The program should bundle all the extracted files back into the .pac file. NOTE: If the program fails for some reason, it might corrupt the .pac file it's working with, so make sure to BACK UP your .pac files before trying to rebuild them.

LEGO Alpha Team - Windows 10 Setup Guide

All credit for the methods used here goes to @lordtobi, who posted a few different tricks around the Alpha Team subforum. All I've done is collate his work into one simple tutorial with screenshots, so please direct any appreciation his way! 1. Insert the LEGO Alpha Team disc into your PC. Open This PC/My Computer, right-click on the disc and select “Open”. 2. Select all files on the disc, except from the "DirectX" folder, and copy them. 3. Create a new folder somewhere that you have permissions (e.g. Desktop, Documents, but not Program Files). Paste all the files inside this folder. Note that in the previous screenshot I have a “desktop.ini” file selected, this doesn’t need to be copied. 4. Inside this folder, create a new folder called "DirectX". Download the .dll files here, extract them, and place them inside this DirectX folder. 5. Back in the main folder, right-click on “Setup.exe” and choose “Properties”. In the window that pops up, select the “Compatibility” tab and set it up as shown below. Make sure you press “Apply” before pressing “OK” or closing the window. 6. Run the “Setup.exe” file in this folder. Follow all the steps, clicking OK when informed that “DirectX 7 will now be installed on your computer”. The application may freeze temporarily, just give it a minute. Click “Finish” to close the setup program when it is complete. 7. Navigate to the folder where LEGO Alpha Team installed. For me, this was: C:\Program Files (x86)\LEGO Media\Games\LEGO Alpha Team 8. As with the “Setup.exe” program before, right click on the “Launcher.exe” file, select “Properties”, then go to the “Compatibility” tab and set it up as shown below. Do the same for the “LEGOATeam.exe” file. 9. To run the game without requiring a disc, first run "Launcher.exe", then press "Exit" when it starts. 10. Now copy the “Config.txt” to somewhere you have permissions (e.g. Desktop), and open it in Notepad. In the below screenshots I’m in the install directory, but you probably won’t be able to save from here. Remove the “DiscPath #:\” line, then under the DisplayGUID line (I’ve blurred the code as I wasn’t sure if it was important), add in “VerifyDiscVol false”, including both spaces. Save the file and close it, then copy it and paste it back over the “Config.txt” file in the install directory, replacing it. 11. To keep the intro video, navigate back to the folder created in Step 3 (where you pasted the disc’s files), copy “lmiintro.avi”, and paste it in the install directory. You can now delete the entire folder created in Step 3. 12. Finally, to set your custom resolution, run the game and adjust the settings to populate the configuration file. Then select the “Game.txt” file in the install directory, copy it somewhere that you have permissions, and open it in Notepad. Again, I show the file in the install directory here, but you’ll want to have it somewhere like your Desktop. Change “BPP ##” to “BPP 32”, then change “Width ####” to your desired width and “Height ###” to your desired height. Remember to leave two spaces between the text and the numbers. Below is my modified file. Save and close it, then copy it and paste it back over the original “Game.txt” in the install directory, replacing it. Congratulations, you’ve installed Alpha Team and are ready to play it on Windows 10!

    Base Terranova

I first started designing Base Terranova over 2 years ago, but then I kinda abandoned the project as it wasn't turning out how I wanted it to be. After that, a few months ago I picked it up again and did a complete overhaul on the original design. Now, I am proud to finally present what is probably my biggest LEGO project to date: "Base Terranova - A RR HQ" Warning! Lots of pictures in the spoilers! Overview: Details of the ground floor: Details of the first floor: Details of the second floor: Details of the Top Floor: I hope you guys enjoyed looking through my newest RR model! Comments and feedback are welcomed to help improve on its design! ~A creation by RRChief~

Pepper Roni in LEGO Club Magazine

Still, a pretty good reference. It'd be nice to see more stuff like this from LEGO, a nudge and a wink at it's past themes/stuff. EDIT: Wait, ooh, I spy (literally) with my little eye, LEGO Minifigure's remake of Dash from Alpha Team hanging from the ceiling in the background!

Pepper Roni in LEGO Club Magazine

Not sure what you mean by "is this a leak?" Its in something officially released by Lego, and leaks are when new lego stuff comes out from someone who isn't lego and isn't supposed to be sharing what they do share. If you mean it in the sense that the fig is from a new Island line, well, this is clearly an unaltered IXS Pepper and we know what the winter 2017 lineup looks like - no Island stuff. And it would be completely unprecedented to have a fig from a release more than a few months away to show up in Club Magazine. It's just a fun little thing for people like us to notice and smile at.

    Brick Rigs

http://store.steampowered.com/app/552100 Hollis linked me to this yesterday. Seems to be a WIP sandbox game where you can build, drive, and destroy LEGO* vehicles with what looks to be a decent physics/destruction system. Looks like the building system allows for SNOT and stuff, too. I dunno if I'm interested enough to buy it, but maybe it'd tickle the interest of somebody here. Going by the first video uploaded of the game, it runs on Unreal 4. *Not technically LEGO but totally LEGO

A Beetleweight Build Diary Part 2: Well, that didn't go as planned...

As the title says, things didn't go as planned. It may not look too bad, but I have to show you some trouble spots. Severe warping around one side of the print, resulting in a malformed motor mounting point. CURA actually thought I wanted to print the interior of the holes of the upper frame mounts, as opposed to the geometry of the frame mounts themselves. I don't know if this is CURA's fault or Sketchup's, though, but seeing as though I have had issues with Sketchup before and not CURA, I guess a few more precision F-Strikes directed at Trimble Navigation are needed. (EDIT: It turned out to be CURA, actually. It didn't like the overhanging parts.) Oh well, at least I can stick this in an arena for another bot to chew on as a durability test. Or just sick my antweight on it. (EDIT: Already did. Turns out there were more problems than just a bad print. The box portion of the frame held up but the weapon mount got torn apart pretty bad.)

I redid my old Pepper mod with hires textures I made. Because the character editor doesn't do it much justice:

    LEGO Island 2 Skeleton Mod

There's two models in LI2 for the skeleton body - SKEL_HR.msh and MUMM_HR.msh. The first one, SKEL_HR.msh, can be found in the Board Park and Whack-a-Snake data. The second one, MUMM_HR.msh, and can be found in the Castle Island and Matching Mummies data. The comparison there is of SKEL_HR.msh from the Board Park and MUMM_HR.msh from Matching Mummies. Presumably the other copies of the models are the same (they're the same file sizes) but I don't have time at the moment to put them in-game and check. (Edit - Checked them with an MD5 comparison tool, they are.) Anyway, they're both messed up - SKEL_HR.msh has wonky normals on the torso, MUMM_HR.msh has wonky normals on the arms. I think the problems with MUMM_HR.msh are less of an eye sore than the ones with SKEL_HR.msh though, so I might switch this mod over to using it instead.
