Whilst nobody was looking, I removed the limit of three entries per person 'cos it was hella dumb. You can now post as many entries as you like and they'll all be entered. You're welcome.3 points -

Sequenced Textures on Custom Models
The Ace Railgun reacted to Cirevam for a topic
Currently I am very close to putting animated (internally known as "sequenced") textures on custom models. I've exported an existing model to LW5 via Lightwave 9, which creates a valid model without sequenced texture data. I was able to insert that data back into the file while keeping the file valid and readable by LRR. Unfortunately, the texture does not animate. Lightwave recognizes it as a sequenced texture, so I suspect there's a control byte in the file that tells the game to animate it. I need someone used to this sort of sleuthing to help me figure out what's missing. I have included two files at the bottom of this post. SteamThing.lwo is my edited file, and SteamThing_orig.lwo is the original. The edited file should be placed in Data\World\Shared and it shows up on the Tool Store. Please help me analyze these files. The file data, as far as I know, is as follows: FORM = Header data PNTS = Vertex data SRFS = Surface (texture) name POLS = Polygon data SURF = Surface name again? COLR = Diffuse channel for the surface FLAG = ? LUMI = Luminosity data (probably maps, effects) VLUM = Luminosity value CTEX = Surface UV data TIMG = File path of image IMSQ = Image sequence data TWRP = ? TFLG = ? TSIZ = ? TCTR = Possibly number of frames before looping the texture sequence, which happens automatically anyways TAAS = ? TCLR = Diffuse channel again? I took IMSQ, TWRP, TFLG, TSIZ, and TCTR from the original file and added them immediately after TIMG. Lightwave reads this data properly, as shown below. LRR displays the model and the first frame of the texture, but it does not animate. Interestingly, it only seems to show the steam on the back of the Tool Store. There is more steam at the teleportation landing pad, but it's invisible to me. I will supply additional files if you need them. http://oresome.rockraidersunited.com/download/429 http://oresome.rockraidersunited.com/download/4301 point -
Ayliffe is knackered so here's a photo-editing contest (2016!)
Lind Whisperer reacted to Ayliffe for a topic
I am knackered. That is an eloquent fact. In fact, I'm so knackered from college and such that I'm gonna copy+paste the rest of this opening paragraph from last year's topic. Eeeeeyup. SO WHATS THE CONTEST ABOUT THEN, I hear you cry? Well, it's pretty simple as far as contests go. Below this wall of text there will be a simple image, which you, the dear reader, will have to edit and customize to your heart's content. Boot up your image editing programs, whip out yer pencils and get to work doing whatever you like to the image! As long as the images are SFW (basically no naughty x-rated pictures or r34 things) then it's all fine. Draw on it! Add text in the speech bubble! Write "LU 2 CONFIRMEDDDD!!!1!" all over it with your own blood (okay, maybe not that last one)! The whole point of this is to just do whatever the frig you like with this image, so go and do that. WHAT'S THE IMAGE THEN, you may shout? It's this one right here: (original source for the image is here, sorry about how low quality this one is but Waifu2x refused to work and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO DO THE THINGS, you may scream at the top of your lungs. To answer that, I'm giving you exactly two weeks to do this. This means the the contest will end at Midday GMT on 14nd December 2016, unless hardly anyone enters then I'll just extend the time by another week or so. Voting for the winner will start the following day (I'll discuss how this will work nearer the time, cos it was a bit of a mess last time and I need to rethink it). HOW MANY ENTRIES CAN I SUBMIT, you may also scream. To keep things fair, you can only submit a maximum of 3 entries per member. This doesn't mean that you HAVE to do three, but it means that you can't do any more than 3. EDIT: SCRAPPING THAT RULE 'COS IT'S DUMB, DO AS MANY AS YOU LIKE ARE THERE ANY PRIZES, I hear you shout. Well, no. I'm poor. Hopefully that should cover the basics. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me and I'll begrudgingly happily answer them. Anyways, that's pretty much that. Happy editing!1 point -

Proper normals/smoothing on LEGO Island models
Ben24x7 reacted to lol username for a topic
I've noticed that people using models ripped from LI1 haven't had the smoothing of them accurate to their appearance in the real game. Maybe this is something that can be done automatically by the extractor at some point (paging @Hamhock666), but for now, here's what to do. In short: The smoothing/vertex normals in LI1 are tied to the materials. I'm not sure whether they're intrinsically tied together in the model format, or if it's just a convention the artists used, but either way, that's how it seems to be done. Certain materials have all the vertices that use them welded together, others leave them flat shaded. This is why there's "duplicate" materials like LEGOWHITE vs LEGOWHITEFLAT; the only difference between them besides the names is the intended shading (smooth vs flat shading). If you want it more step by step...1 point -
The Mega AMD Support Thread
Lair reacted to Fluffy Cupcake for a topic
Interesting, I've actually used that program to run another old game in a high resolution, never thought to use it on RRs. I don't know what settings to set (or even how to get it working with RRs, I tried for a couple minutes) so hopefully obewan can help with that, but the gist of the program is that the installer isn't really an "installer", it is just used to set up the program for usage with the game. To get started, in the program press the button that says "add" and select RR's directory, thereafter mess around with settings and press apply, I recommend leaving the "dgVoodoo watermark" box checked so you can see if it actually working or not (it will make an overlay watermark logo of dgVoodoo appear in the game). If all went well a new file "dgVoodoo.conf" should be created in RR's directory (you may need to run the program as admin if one doesn't appear). That's all I can really say but it should help you get started in the right direction.1 point -

LEGO Island REDUX
Dazzgracefulmoon reacted to DarkianMaker for a topic
Okay, today I'm finally done with the Police Station interior (it is not 100% done but if I go and spend time on placing desks and such I might go more insane than I already am xD) After 4 redesigns which took place after 7 errors it is finally done and the video is below. I didn't anticipate how much work the Police Station was going to be until I was in the middle of it. On another note, I had my 7 year old niece play the game for a while and she enjoyed going absolutely nuts with the car. A good sign if even the next generation likes the Remake I also came up with something when I talked with my younger brother earlier about the project and the prospect of multiplayer: How funny would it be to be able to explore the island with friends just so a friend crashes into you with his car and your minifig falls apart and then another person might accidentally kick your head causing it to fly away whilst you are still in first person view? Going to work on the other interiors later, first I'm going to tinker with blowing up the RR code. ----------- Guys, @bphillips09, @Xiron and whoever else helps with the project or is following its progress! I've just finished up on an e-mail to Wes Jenkins with word of this project and an invitation to come and join the conversation! Whilst I wait for a response I will mostly be working on more interior designs and come up with ideas for upgrades to the existing missions.1 point -

A Lego Rock Raiders remake
ticketstoloservile reacted to DarkianMaker for a blog entry
This is an idea that sprung to mind when I couldn't get Rock Raiders to work on my PC (even with all the helpful tutorials on this forum) and I wondered "Why hasn't this game received a remake yet so that we can still play this gem but without issues on newer systems?" And so I started my search for a remake and stumbled on some threads and one abandoned project that could be revamped as a Rock Raiders co-op multiplayer mode. Now I understood from @Xiron that there were multiple attempts at a remake that nobody finished and I can understand that people will be skeptical but I can assure you, I don't like having to use my old 2003 PC at all and right now I'm forced to use that to play Rock Raiders so the annoyance with my old system will be a constant fuel for me to stay on track with the project. I will most likely will need some help from people with areas I have zero experience in like modeling and animation but other things like voices, sound effects, music and videos can be carried over from the original if I'm not mistaken. My idea is to just focus on creating a remake that is very true to the original but with a few additions which should make modding a lot easier like a custom map selection screen and a custom campaign selection screen. And after that I will focus on working on that multiplayer co-op addition and maybe after that start on a version with more complexity and a sort of grand strategy addition to it with more buildings and an expanded story line/campaign (could be just the RR story line but more complex or a sequel where they yet again have an incident in space). I have been rambling on for a while now, tell me what you guys think and if there's people who show interest I will go on with posting more information about this project and discussing ideas with you people . In general I won't be able to invest much time into the project right now this December with two work projects which have to be finished and the holidays coming up. Begin 2017 I can start working on it with a reasonable chunk of time next to helping out with @bphillips09's project wherever I can.1 point -

LEGO Worlds News And Discussion
Lind Whisperer reacted to Ayliffe for a topic
Looks like Worlds is leaving early access in February next year - and we're getting a PS4/XBONE release too! Here's a new trailer: Here's some HD boxart too for you to oogle at: There's only one slight downside: The PS4 version's gonna have some timed-exclusive DLC because of course it has Gamespot says that the "limited time" is in fact only 90 days, which is alright though (plus it's only cosmetic, which is also nice). Also, in case you were fearing that Worlds leaving EA means the end of new stuff: it's been confirmed that we're still gonna be getting content updates with new stuff in 'em even after it's left Early access.
