Canceled Mega Bloks Halo Game

The topic of not-quite-LEGO games reminds me... There's a 1999 Playmobil PC game (sort of an RPG-adventure thing) that's really good IMO. Also helps that Playmobil is just a competitor to LEGO (and even then only somewhat; they're just a toy with some crossover in who they appeal to), not a clone brand or even a building toy - so even hardcore lego fans can play it guilt free. I've played through the majority of the game and I enjoyed it, been meaning to go back and finish. The writing and voice acting and world is all really well done (especially for 1999) and there's a lot of charm to it. It's also surprisingly dark in tone at points; it doesn't shy away from mentions of death and stuff, feels akin to the 80s LEGO Pirates audio dramas in that regard. The coolest part about the game though are the time travel mechanics and how damn well they work with the story and world. You play a knight who's sent back in time 200 years by a villain, and your goal is to return to your own time and defeat the villain who sent you back. And while the game is technically linear, the trip you take through time and the world is by all means not - you can use sundials to switch between eras at pretty much any time (once you've played enough to visit more than one). Kings rise and fall, you see first hand the effects they're having/had on the kingdom, characters age, die, their children grow up, the world evolves interestingly and sometimes dramatically, and it all makes it surprisingly rich for a "kids game". There's a lot of other little things I really liked about it but I won't go on. If there's one thing that stands out as a flaw it's that the control scheme feels dated, but I wouldn't say it's outright bad or hard to control, just takes getting used to. Itsa good game. Play it. ... Oh! And a PS2 version was released 3 years later, in 2002. From what I've heard there's some differences between the versions though I'm not sure how much. One last thing: The game's manual is available here, and it's actually got some cool story-related stuff in it. There's also this. I'm not sure I can recommend that one.6 points -

GOTTA (LE)GO FAST

Whilst looking about the internet for things, I came across this rather daft-looking mod for Sonic Generations that got the Sonic character models from LEGO Dimensions and slapped 'em in Generations. So I downloaded it, booted up the game and my sides were immediately sent into literal orbit. (got a lotta screenshots to post, so I'mma put 'em all in spoiler tags for your viewing pleasure) lego sonic as you truly imagined it3 points -

[Fix] Low Framerate On Windows 8
Jeff and one other reacted to lol username for a topic
This is a bit of a side note, but for people who might wonder why the windowed mode screenshot shows 207 FPS, while the final screenshot in your post shows 60: LEGO Island 2 is normally capped at 60 FPS. Windowed mode (which is also tied to a bunch of developer mode options) disables the cap, but many things in the game are directly tied to the framerate instead of the passage of time, and break horribly when the framerate gets too high (for example: the physics in Desert Speedster become so broken it's unplayable). Then there's the biplane game, which doesn't even work properly at 60 FPS - it's most playable around 30-40. Island Xtreme Stunts has the same problems, but doesn't have a framerate cap and is thus usually broken by default on modern computers, so you have to find other ways of locking it to make the game work properly (like forcing vsync on in your graphics control panel).2 points -

Non c'est pas mal! Actual quality in a modern LEGO game. From Megablocks. Who'da thunk? I honestly wish this had been released. I have no idea if it would have justified its existence, what with being based off of a series of video games, but it would have given TT a run for their criminally easy money, and I think we can all agree that would have been a good thing.2 points -
Widescreen Hack + High Resolution
skyboxeye reacted to Jeff for a topic
I struck gold in the youtube comments section. For years I've been looking for a "Beginner's Guide to Widescreen Hacking" and I finally found it. Youtube user AuToMaNiAk005 wrote a very nice explanation on how he hacks games. You should read the whole thing, paste it into a text file and keep it forever. I've tried hacking a few games with this information, but the only success I've had so far was with Lego Island 2. Like most widescreen hacks, it's not perfect. Some objects will disappear on the edges and the HUD is stretched. And sometimes you'll find weird stuff, like a Brickster-Bot that has been creeping in the main menu the entire time. This also solves another problem I've had: Every time I start the game it runs at 640 x 480. The game seems to always start with the lowest supported resolution. But if you replace every possible resolution with just the one you want, it will start up with that one instead. If anyone is interested, here are the offsets that I found: Both English Versions: - 640 at 0x529D, 480 at 0x52A4 - 800 at 0x52B2, 600 at 0x52B9 - 1024 at 0x52C7, 768 at 0x52CE - 1280 at 0x52DC, 1024 at 0x52E3 - FOV at 0xA495 Note that matching width and height values are 7 bytes apart. Two pairs of resolutions are 21 bytes apart (the difference between 640 location and the 800 location) Spanish Version: - 640 at 0x52FD, 480 at 0x5304 - (I didn't write down the rest. See the note above.) - FOV at 0xA765 I've updated the LI2 Mod Manager tool with a built-in custom resolution setting. (And built-in load time fix, and no intro videos hack.) So far it works with both English versions and a Spanish version. If it does not work for you, send me a message and I'll look into it. I want to make it compatible with every version.1 point -
[Fix] Low Framerate On Windows 8
lol username reacted to Jeff for a topic
...and Windows 10 maybe? I still use 8.1. I noticed something strange with Lego Island 2. Here is my framerate in fullscreen mode ...and this is my framerate with the windowed mode mod. So what gives? My computer is clearly fast enough for this old game. As it turns out this is a common issue that began with Windows 8. Games that use old versions of DirectX (7 and lower, I think) got the shaft when it came to backwards compatibility. Fullscreen mode wrecks the framerate on them. Fortunately it is possible to fix! (Spoilered for lots of images) Notes: - I wrote this on the pcgamingwiki page first. I thought it might be helpful to post it here too. - I can't remember exactly how I learned this. Probably from here, under the troubleshooting heading.1 point -
LEGO Creator Activity Book

Anybody here happen to have a copy of this? https://www.amazon.com/Creator-Official-Activity-Bradygames-Strategy/dp/1566868351 http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?B=bcreator&lang=Eng#T=S&O={} I've been curious about it for... geez, 8 years or so now, but never strongly enough to order a copy. You can get it for under $5 on Amazon though, and that's counting shipping as some sellers have it listed for a penny. ... Oh! I just noticed it was written by Jeff James - he did a lot of stuff at LEGO/LEGO Media, from 1998 to 2005 it looks like. In 1999 he answered a fan's question about scrapped shortcuts in Knightmare-Athon in LEGO Racers (obviously long before anybody on BZPower, and later RRU, started searching for them): http://www.neoseeker.com/legoracers/faqs/26681-lego-racers.html1 point -
