Rock Raiders: Baz's Mod longplay/walkthrough
Sadie Meowsalot and 5 others reacted to Lair for a topic
After my 11 hour Rock Raiders walkthrough, I said I'd never upload another video that monstrous. I lied. It took over a week and I ended up with over 25 hours of footage to upload, but I have created the first video evidence of 100% completion of Baz's Mod, almost 8 years after it first came out (or 6 years after the version I'm playing here I guess). This was my first time playing most of these levels too - took me long enough to finally get to it. Up through Lava Laughter, I absolutely loved this mod. It felt like I was playing the original game again, but this time there were brand new places to explore, and actual challenges and puzzles. The original maps were all fantastic, definitely some of my favorite levels. But from Air Raiders onward, for the most part the tediousness found in the later levels of the original game came back, even worse than it ever was there at some points - I'm sorry but your version of Hot Stuff is one of the most unpleasantly frustrating maps I've ever played. Thankfully Rocky Horror was extremely satisfying the whole way through. Surprisingly, I only had to redo levels because of the AI bugging out or the game crashing, closest I came to actual failure was on the first bonus level where the air supply almost ran out before I could build a Support Station. The spawn cooldown time for monster emerges being lowered to 10-30 seconds was pretty fun, but they still felt pathetic - I think I only got swarmed two or three times. They still have health decay for some reason, still move too slow, and even with the weaker handheld guns they still go down too easy, except with the mounted lasers which take them down too easy. The lasers were perfectly fine for mining tho, surprisingly - this was how they should've been in the original game. The bats just aren't fun. They should always be disabled and just act like scenery. And then there was the AI... good god, the game completely broke down on Water Works and Hot Stuff, doing weird s*** I'd only seen in tutorial levels when you disabled nerps halfway through. The sad fact is, no matter how good your mod is, this game's engine is super-unstable. Really hope some of you remake guys do something great. But I don't mean to sound overly cynical. It was a good mod, especially for its time. I enjoyed most of it, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I guess the above critique isn't really for Baz - hell I don't know if he'll ever even read it - but more for anyone else who wants to make stuff with this game. But then again, unless one of those remakes happens, I guess I'm about three years too late for that. As for why I made this monstrous 25 hour walkthrough? Honestly I don't know, I guess I just love torturing myself for the sake of archiving and hoping at least one person will enjoy what I do lmao6 points -

Skateboard Speed Modifier
Quisoves Potoo and one other reacted to Fluffy Cupcake for a topic
I dunno about you, but I've heard a few complaints around about the uselessness of the skateboard and how its speed is the same as running; so what better way to solve that issue than to modify the speed of the skateboard! This mod changes the skateboard speed from 0.75 to 1.15, but you can easily change it to whatever you want! (just be sure to reverse the endian [aka DCBA]) Mod Download: http://oresome.rockraidersunited.com/download/491 To be used with @Jeff's mod manager. This mod is compatible with the two English versions and the Spanish. Want it in your alternate game release? Drop a reply! Technical Stuff: Default Speed: 0.75 [40 3F] Addresses in .exe: English Type 1: 3EB031 English Type 2: 3EAFF1 Spanish: 8B0F22 points -
Ice Planet Pathfinder

This vehicle is a spiritual successor to the Satellite Plow. It comes equipped with the latest in tracking technology, equipped with multiple sensors, antennae, a plow, and a large radar dish in the back. It fulfills all the roles of its predecessor, but is more advanced. Here is the side. You can see the hinge gives the front a nice aesthetic, allows more visibility for the driver, and makes for a more compact vehicle. The back. There is a lot of equipment back here. Here is the front. I must say the plow looks very good. Top. From this angle you can get an idea of how much larger it is than the aforementioned Satellite Plow. Here are some of the details on the back. You can see we have a few sensors here, a pair of skis, and two tool racks. Closeup of the hinge that makes that steep angle possible. Sorry, I just think it's one of my more creative ideas. I know I could have very easily called it the Satellite Plow V2, and I may do that later, but I think Pathfinder sounds cooler. Thank you very much for visiting.2 points -

Avant Gardens gameplay part 2 - lcdr & humanoid's server project
Lind Whisperer reacted to lcdr for a topic
We're continuing where we left off, with the main questline after having completed survival. Featured in this video are mostly free-to-play missions, which have the additional complication that their scripts have been removed from the client, so replicating the behavior is more difficult than usual. As mentioned last time, Movement AI is not implemented, as it's too complex to justify a prioritization over other features. Other than that the implementation is moving along pretty well, with functionality almost indistinguishable from the original server.1 point -

Tutorial Levels?
sheepandshepherd reacted to aidenpons for a topic
While I know this topic is fairly old, I have a habit of screwing around with Drilling with Vehicles with NoNerps (hit F12) The game does not like this map at all. It also has a habit of shooting RRs all the way up the air, glitching up in some shaky fashion after they finish clearing rubble. They go into the.... floor? ceiling? wall? One Rock Raider is being pointed at by the arrow. He's stuck in the ground. The second is selected and stuck in the... wall? One RR is in the middle of going flying far above the screen. He stays in the same spot if you view him on the minimap. I have also managed to replicate the very rare bug whereby something zooms from its spot to the end of the cavern, hits the wall, and warps back. However this is absurdly rare. I managed to catch one LRR in the act and found that he was lying horizontally - he was going in the direction of his head (so along the ground). Unfortunately there are no screenshots of that . To get the LRR carrying another RR, it has something to do with finishing shoveling. For the second, just teleport some LRRs in and teleport out the Small Digger. Then tell them to go shoveling. (Bonus points - spot the change in models from low to high poly. One SS is a couple of years old, the others didn't exist ten minutes ago )1 point -

Rock Raiders: Baz's Mod longplay/walkthrough
Lair reacted to lol username for a topic
Geez, this is impressive, not just getting all the footage but getting it uploaded so quickly too. For comparison, my nearly 40 hour long LU playthrough (which actually had more gameplay done off-camera to allow for showing alternate faction's versions of things on-camera) was recorded over 3 months, and uploaded over the course of nearly two years. You just tore through this and the vanilla LRR walkthrough in no time, comparatively. Well, I was using a codec for a long time that made the files huge and limited how fast I could do it (it was like 2 GB for a 10-15 minute part, you can tell when I fixed it by when the parts suddenly became an hour long each)... But still, wow haha. Good work.1 point -
LEGO Universe closure and subscription numbers
Vic Rattlehead reacted to lol username for a topic
There's one particular post from Lunibook that I feel is worth calling special attention to, posted by WBL member Flambridge on late Saturday, November 5, 2011, the day after the closure was announced: It all speaks for itself, though there's one thing I wanna discuss. According to this, LU had 2 million players, only 100,000 of which were paying subscribers. The 2 million figure is backed up by the official press release announcing the closure: There's one other number for paying subscribers I've seen floating around the internet though, 38,000. The source for that seems to be Brick by Brick by David Robertson, which has a whole chapter on the development of LU. I own a copy, here's the relevant part: It seems they meant a few months before the closure was announced (to both the players and developers) on November 4th, 2011, not a few months before the servers shut down (Midnight of January 30, 2012)... There'd have been no cautious optimism at that point, nor a staff to be even be optimistic, besides the few left to maintain the servers. So the 38,000 number probably comes from around the time F2P was launched in August 2011, maybe slightly before. F2P would have then been responsible for the rise from 38,000 subscribers to 100,000 subscribers + 1.9 million F2P players in the few months until it was axed on that morning in early November.1 point -
