Stunt Rally DVD-ROM With HQ Videos
noghiri and one other reacted to ZANTHERA for a topic
I'm not sure if this is known but I spotted this DVD-ROM version of Stunt Rally on eBay recently and was curious as to why it was a DVD-ROM and not a CD-ROM so I bought it. It turns out it has a load of video content that features a behind the scenes look at the games development, the UK advert for the game, plus adverts for three different LEGOLAND theme parks as well as a Rock Raiders set/game advert. What I was really hoping to be on the disc turned out to indeed be present, there is a full PAL DVD quality version of the games 3D animated intro. It's 720 x 576 at 25fps which beats the hell out of the tiny 320 x 240 at 15fps version seen on start up. There are even snippets of Glacier's outro in the behind the scenes video in this same quality but sadly not all of the outro videos used throughout the game are present. The ones seen in game are however much better quality, they are 25fps and have much higher bit rate audio than the outros from a later re-release I have from Focus which came bundled with Island Xtreme Stunts, I have seen these higher quality outro videos in playthroughs so it's not surprising they are there, but this does tell us they for some reason skimped on the quality for the re-releases. Below are comparisons between the two, it seems they didn't render the final sequence with anti aliasing so there are some jaggies here and there but it's definitely not an upscale, there is way too much detail that can be seen. The pictures go AVI then DVD but then again it's rather obvious which is which, the DVD version does seem to have an overall different coloration to it and seems a bit green at times, I'm going to work on it to see if I can get the colors more consistent and match real element colors better.2 points -

The game may be close but I've still got a few more videos to upload... Got the Mad Creator's Tower uploaded, gonna upload as much of the Underworld as I could play through tonight (first five levels including first boss beaten, couldn't get past the sixth). Also, here's the Underworld cutscene text, mostly ripped from the game data... Boy this game had some silly tryhard-y writing lol: And the flavor text displayed while playing through the Underworld levels: I also noticed what appear to be weird level names, interlaced with some of the names of the earlier levels in the game: After that it just seemed to be the rest of the normal level names in order, at a glance. Dunno what to make of it. Upcoming content? Old scrapped content? Who knows. Much of the text in the game is encoded kinda awkwardly and takes a little fixing, which isn't hard, but does make it slightly time consuming to dig through with a hex editor... There could be more weird unused stuff. Edit: Underworld uploaded2 points -

So, uh, you know how Funcom worked with LEGO to make LMO? Before this, they pitched two apps to LEGO; Brickizen and Fish Adventure (technically Fishtank) http://i.imgur.com/Ay1uq3m.png And, you know, the logical thing to do when you're pitching apps to a company is to put them on a public github. https://github.com/epsilone/LEGO-Funcom https://github.com/epsilone/FishAdventure https://github.com/GordieRoss/BrickizensDemo Brickizens is essentially that LEGO Fusion Town Manager app in a really really early state. (also oh lord the animations are bad) I'll try to take some pictures of them soon, haven't had much time to mess with it yet. (quick edit: thanks to someone on Skype for telling me about these!)1 point -

I played it on an emulator on PC (tapping a glass screen is for noobs), and you can just let the game auto-move and auto-attack if your team's power is sufficiently high compared to the enemies in the level, but the first few times you play a level (generally until you've gone up a few XP levels) you really need to carefully choose which characters to assemble into a team, in which order and with which strategy to approach each enemy in a group (some spawn enemies, some are melee, some are ranged, some will charge and require you to dodge), and it's essential to build the various small builds around each level, which is the one thing the game won't automatically do for you - these restore health, establish a shield or distract / attack enemies. So actually a fair amount of engagement for a casual mobile title, at least in my experience - not sure how easy or fun it would be on a small screen with a fat finger, but on a nice PC screen with a keyboard and mouse, it's definitely not a mindless tap-to-win title, unless you're replaying earlier levels to grind for XP (in which case I am thankful for auto-play). I suspect it looks easier than it is in Terrev's videos because he's a fairly high level and has well-upgraded characters; getting to that point does require a fair amount of grind, and even a few challenging fights.1 point -

Oh hey. Surprise, I'm still here. So yeah, I'll be frank, I've been gone, uh, quite a while. I've mentioned it to Xir, but the long and short of it is hat my real life unfortunately got in the way of this (and a bunch of other stuff) for me. Originally I didn't want to keep posting updates on how I basically didn't have time to do anything, as I felt that that would be frustrating, but seeing as how you've all gotten more-or-less complete radio silence from me from an inordinate amount of time, in hindsight, I probably should't have just stopped posting. So, uh. Believe it or not, I'm still willing to do some work on this. I know I wasn't the only one doing anything, and it's not even my mod to begin with, but really don't like breaking promises that I make, and it's been bugging me a bit in the back of my head for a while now, so here I am. I know it's just a mod that we're working on in our free time for fun, but I still don't wanna disappoint anyone, especially since many of you have contributed voiceovers to this. Unfortunately, I'm still very busy, and probably will be for about the next 2 months or so. But hey, if everything goes right, I'll finally have time to finish up my work on this then, and hey, I'll have my Master's Degree too, so that's nice. I really don't want this to turn into another thing where I post an update then promptly vanish from RRU for an ungodly amount of time, so I'll try and keep in touch, even if my schedule is a bit of a nightmare right now. As I said before. thanks for not keelhauling me, and sorry I've been gone for so long.1 point -
HTML5 Rock Raiders Remake
ch4rl1e97 reacted to risingstar64 for a topic
Hey guys, once the site went down over the summer, I decided to put this project on hiatus so that I could focus on other things. I'm glad to see the forum is fully back online again! While I don't have time to commit to the remake right now, I certainly wouldn't call it dead. My hope is to find time around the beginning of summer to make a concentrated push and get the project to a fully playable state. Of course, the project is and will remain open source, so its not going anywhere @RackoverThe level data was taken directly from the game, but I precompiled it first into a format that can be read by the browser. You can locate the level files in the 'levels' subdirectory (https://github.com/rystills/rock-raiders-remake/tree/master/levels). Each level is broken down into multiple map files, with prefixes corresponding to the type of data represented by that map (ie 01, Info_01, High_01, etc.. all describe level 1).1 point -
