snooks
Hey guys, So I installed RR on my windows xp VM that I created using parallels. Unfortunatley, when I run RR standard, no matter what compatibility/256colors/800x600 modes I try, the same thing always happens: Screen goes black, I can hear sounds, but nothing happens. The thing I have found is that when I hit the home button repeatedly the game flashes on the screen, and I can actually see the graphics and stuff moving. Of course, i can't use the menu at all because when I click on a menu option it selects the game and the screen freezes again. Anyone running xp via parallels/had this problem before? Would love some input, thanks!
JrMasterModelBuilder
I don't find virtual machines very good for 3D applications, but perhaps this will help: http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v5/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/22986.htm Aslo, make sure you give the VM as much video memory as possible. snooks
made the changes, gave the VM 1gb of memory (despite parallels throwing up at least 3 windows begging me not to) and still at a black screen with the sound working. You said you don't like VMs for 3d applications, any other ideas? Crossover didn't work for me
TheDoctor
The only way we've ever found to reliably run LRR outside of Windows... is to run it in a Windows VM. VirtualBox and a Windows ISO should do it for you.
snooks
alright I'll try that and report back. Is virtualbox free?
Lair
It's free but the OS isn't if it's Windows.
snooks
nah I have a legal XP VM i created a few days ago from my old home edition disks so that shouldn't be a problem Edit: Confused actually, do I use the OS X virtualbox or virtualbox through windows xp via parallels?
