Darn, that PM was deleted along with all in my inbox.

Anyway, they were against it.

The main reason being the load it would add onto the server.

There is one point to Sonic arguement: There will be more data in every tile and as a result, the old map will need to be converted. The question is: Will it be converted automaticly or will you have to convert it yourself? I say you and not we because I don't have MC.

The funny thing is that java doesn't use that much idle cpu. Its either disk usage, or the other processes. The skysim server has 8 cores. It's not like the cpu is being strained, its that mysqld uses a lot more cpu time (and disk io).

Could I have the map file before we change to a new map?

You will have to ask Anon about that.

I need the IRC link, and instructions to get there.

My suggestion was, after PAX (which is when the Adventure Update will be playtested, and then tweaked afterward.) around 4 days afterward for example. We change the MOTD to say that anything after that date will NOT be saved. Mouse then puts the file up for download, and I copy and paste buildings and bases and the spawn into a certain area, decreasing mapsize dramstically, for this exapmle, Let's say 8 Chunks wide, by 71 long. Pretending this is the length and widths to keep Hedgehog lake and Icewater(After moving the spawn over so that the track is a simple straight line). Then I'll move all the bases I can find so this area. The rest will then be deleted. I'll make backup to the save and test the map in 1.7 if it works, then I'll give the backup to Anon to put on the server.

If that doesn't work, I'll wait for 1.8, do the same thing in the OLD MAP, then spawn a new map in SSP. Walk around a bit. Then copy and paste to the new map, and roll it out just in time for Bukket to start working.

Thoughts?

Also: i rather just get a new map. But people have issues with wasting their life building digital files and start crying when said digital files get deleted.

come on guys. Get Anon to put the file up and let's build a new city. I'm getting Annoyed how b****y people get when losing Minecraft work. Goodness, go build models if you want to preserve your creations.

The one thing I hate is the fact that new maps are made at random, if we knew the seed for the current map, we could simply create a new version of this map after 1.8, and it will contain all the new features that will be in 1.8.

I know it will contain all the new features and programing because I made a 404 map before the update with the dead saplings, and then sonic made one later on after that update, and the map featured dead saplings.

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Anon had to use a random seed, or else everything would workout just great!

I know it will contain all the new features and programing because I made a 404 map before the update with the dead saplings, and then sonic made one later on after that update, and the map featured dead saplings.

Just because Anon used a random seed, doesn't mean he can't find out what seed the map is using.

He should find out what the seed was and just use that to make a new map after 1.8, then we can just do everything over the way we already have.

1. I don't agree with you here. I don't like the idea of you poking around the map. It's nothing personal but I wouldn't trust anyone who could passably mess with the map in an unfair way.

2. I agree with you here. I think that Anon should upload the map here for all you people who want to stay in 1.7 after 1.8.

3. I agree with you. I mean I got mad when my house and stuff was exploded but that is understandable but if people want to build their own things and not get mad at people not liking it then they should get a single player map and shut the f*** up about it.


On an unrelated note. As the new owner of the RRU City project (because Tauka doesn't play the server much anymore.) then how do you feel about working together when we get a new 1.8 map? I have lots of plans we can use to make a main RRU City at the spawn point and then we can build a strait track (to the North I guess) from there to a new better organized Icewater and Spleef arena that we would build after the RRU City is up and running (No offense but me starting a city and then you going to a random snow biom that we can't build a strait track to sounds like a crazy unprepared thing to do on a new map with all these new geographical features.)

Ideas I have had so far:

Build RRU city around the spawn area so:

We can build a wall around so mobs can't get in.

New players and people who respawn without a bed will be safe when they show up.

We will be able to store all extra/donated/not needed blocks/items here. It can be a comunity exchange center and allow new players and players who die to get some starting items.

It can be the center of the one giant minecart system that will inevitably be built.

It will keep people from moving the spawn point to seemingly random locations.

Other reason that I can't think of but are really good reason why we should do this.

Just because Anon used a random seed, doesn't mean he can't find out what seed the map is using.

He should find out what the seed was and just use that to make a new map after 1.8, then we can just do everything over the way we already have.

Shut up about the seed already. It doesn't matter at all you dork. The random seeds are made using the time on your computer at that very moment. And can just make a map at another time like he did before or he can use the same thing from now and every new map onward which I recommend being "MC.RRU-Stuff.org" because we will all know what the seed is because it is what you use to get onto the server in the first place.

So....

After 1.8, I'd like to be the plumber of icewater. I'm tired of all the littering, and a sewage system would fix this perfectly. Have a sewage line running from every building to one central sewage system that carries the junk to a treatment place (pretty much just a pit that people can grab garbage from if they want).

All in favor of a sewage system say aye, all who appose say nay.

I think that icewater is haunted, I'm still shaking after what I saw. Seriously, I'm not making this up.

I was working on my building, finishing some stuff up, when I look out my window and see someone with a default skin way in the distance. The only people on were me an oboeshoes, and it was mid day, so it wasn't a zombie. At first I thought it was oboeshoes, so I went down my stairs to great him. As I started going down the stairs, the figure walked away into the fog on the edge of the map (I use the normal render distance because far makes my computer lag). I tried to follow, but when I got to the spot he was at, there was nobody there.

I'm not making this up, honestly.

Anyways, have you heard of the Voxelbox? Maybe you should do something like what thaty did and make special items, textures, plugins, etc. for the sever upon the update. (We are programmers, right?)

Perhaps when Notch say "Removed Herobrine" in the updates as a joke then he is actually saying that he has added Herobrine into the game and is telling everyone that he is just joking around or Anon installed a new plugin that adds Herobrine into the game.

I'm making my own city in LDD, by the way. It has 10100 elements already and I still have to add two 1500+ models. I don't think I will be able to have it in just one file.

And you can't make plugins for updates that haven't come out yet and we do not own Minecraft. We are not even modding Minecraft. We cannot program things for Minecraft. Minecraft is still being worked by the people making it. you don't have any idea how Minecraft works because you don't own it so leave this topic before someone else realizes you are posting useless misinformed information.

Why are you nervous? I've shown restraint being Mayor of Icewater. I'm not going to destroy anyone's creations. Worse case scenario is that H2's mines get cut off a bit. But there will be more. If we keep the survival mode i might give myself some gold and iron so that I don't have to keep asking Anon or Acmex everytime i want to build a railway.

I've asked to be a moderator, and I've already been declined. I don't care really, I just want access to iron and gold without upturning half the earth.

We're not getting a sewer. Littering isn't that bad. Lighting is more of a problem, creeper bombings have caused termentus damage, so I was forced to implement Law #4.

Sonic, I'm not co-operating with you. People keep forgetting the point of Icewater: A community city that allows for those who want to build in a community to do just that, while being far away enough to require a railroad. A city at spawn is a bad idea, it gives new players a feeling of vastness and a lack of place in this new world, and will more likely to move off to a small corner of a map. Having an optional city that can be joined if you WANT is how i run the city. While you more or less have a dictatorship on the verge of totalitarianism. While mine is more of a capitalist monarchy. i do my best to serve the people, I don't ask for taxes, and i try not to tell people what they can or cannot build so long as it isn't completely unnecessary (sewer, for example), height limit not withstanding. If you don't like it, and what to change one of the FOUR laws we have, all of which are common sense, then ask. I'll consider it.

On the topic of the height limit: It's so that we don't have little houses in vallys of incredibly tall buildings. Come on people, sky scraper next to Warguys house? What the crap?

Acmex is the Chief of building commissions if he'd long on once in a while. But that just it. Minecraft is a HOBBY. Guys, chillax. If we get a new map, we get a new map. I'll walk in the compass directions, find another tundra, and set up a new city. Get a railroad up within a few days, and let you do what you want to do. If you want to go set up your own city, do it. I'll love to see another city I can run my railroad too. But at the moment, I'm the mayor of Icewater, and they way it's been so far is how it's going to work.

You don't know what the game is, you most likely have n idea what Minecraft is, so please, GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS TOPIC!
