That's great bartvbl, hopefully we'll get you in this time!

I should note, please everyone who is taking part let me know your time zone in UTC. This is compulsory to participate, I need to know what your time zone is so I can set a time for the round!

I am UTC+1 (normally UTC, but +1 until the clocks go back).

Yes, my evil plan is taking shape! UHC will be brought back to life! *sadistic evil laughter* :P

Alright, thanks everyone, here's the updated list. As daylight savings ends tomorrow I'll use standard UTC times (which I assume you've all provided).

Currently that's eight members, which allows for 4 teams of 2, or 2 teams of 4.

EDIT: Updated, currently nine members which allows for 3 teams of 3.

Just paying a small visit to RRU actually, it's been a while, but this caught my interest again. I got a week off soon, so perhaps I can join the upcoming event. Anyway, count me in. (UTC+1)

On this frightful day, at 6pm UTC, eight adventurers joined in what was one of the hardest-fought rounds of UHC yet. Paired up, four teams of two were sent out around the small world to plunder its resources, tech up and eventually kill off all opponents. They were...

TEAM 1 - Ã…ngry HÃ¥mbørgers frøm spÃ¥ce, who jumped into lava

TEAM 2 - Sonic Blasters

TEAM 3 Obsidian Raiders

TEAM 4 - Void Exceptions

The match managed to last four hours (including a fifteen minute starting delay, apologies for that on my part)! The first member to be slain, unfortunately, was MaelstromIslander. Soon after, Ben24x7 received a divine calling and had to leave the world, leaving teams 2 and 3 with just one member left each. It wasn't long before I headed over to a rather conspicuous wooden house on the hillside, sneaked downstairs and found its occupant - The Ace Railgun - evading zombies within. After a short battle, Ace emerged victorious, vanquishing the Obsidian Raiders. Later on, Ace was herself claimed by falling into lava, wiping out the Sonic Blasters too!

After this, the two remaining teams continued to mine for a long time, the Void Exceptions even managing to acquire the coveted diamonds hidden deep below the surface. It wasn't until the end drew near that bartvbl was caught by surprise and slain by his opponents, leaving his team mate all on his own. After a good effort, Arthuriel too fell victim to the sword, destroying the Ã…ngry HÃ¥mbørgers frøm spÃ¥ce, who jumped into lava.

This left the Void Exceptions - with both Antillies and RR Rocks still alive and kicking - the victors! Congratulations, Team 4 won New UHC: Round 1!

Well done to all who took part, it was truly an excellent game, and it sounded like you all enjoyed yourselves! My apologies to those who couldn't make it to the match, too, hopefully you can make it to Round 2. :)

EDIT: bartvbl has uploaded a video showing the best part of his team's experience during the map. Watch it here!

I think you'll find it good to hear that I may be getting some new internet service sometime in the future.

This service includes:

250GB per month

Should I run over (highly doubt it) if I pay $10, I'll get 50GB more until the next month

Varying speeds depending on location (probably 18MB/s, compared to my 1MB/s)

And the best part: Absolutely 100% NO SATELLITE LATENCY! :D

Which means I can do so many more things like:

Kill something in Minecraft without 2 second delay upon hits (I die before they do)

Place something in Minecraft without 2 second delay between each block (precision builds are annoying (block placement sound doesn't play til 2 seconds later))

Play GMod Multiplayer (I can't even move)

Play UHC Minecraft (I'll stand a better chance now)

Play any online game (YAY)

etc...

But anyway, there's no set date or time on when we're going to be getting this, just that we've looked into it and it seems much more reasonable than what we have now.

Just thought I'd share the news that I'd soon be able to be on the server more and have a go at UHC sometime.

Sound like a good round. Can't wait to hear the next one. (Oh and JJ, would I be able to spectate next round? I'd probably still be on the old internet, but I could still watch and see how it works.)

I knew that wooden building wasn't a decoy! :P

Anyways, sounded like a good match... ...oh, and congrats Void Exceptions.

I look forward to UHC next week (unless there is a delay, meaning that it would be the week after)

Drill Master, that sounds great! I'm looking forward to seeing you on the server soon. :)

Ben24x7, yes you were right. :P I had a great time playing with you, by the way. Good game all.

As for the next round of UHC... I was planning on hosting one this coming Saturday, however in my current physical condition, yesterday's round was quite a drain and not something I can cope with regularly. For that reason, I'm sorry to say, I think UHC would have to be hosted on a monthly or every-other-month basis. Alternatively, I'm more than happy to let any of the mods set it up instead - I can give a set of clear instructions no the process.

That said, I'm not objected to small bouts of Minecraft, I can handle that. It was proposed by a few members before UHC started yesterday that we have other game modes, too. Things like Capture the Flag, Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. These I can see being run from start to finish in around 15-30mins, and as a result I have no problem with hosting them weekly.

Would anyone be interested in short games of Capture the Flag, Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch? Approximate rules would be as follows:

  • Capture the Flag: Either each team gets a banner, or a banner is placed in the middle. Capture the flag and bring it to your base to score a point - each team can have a mod to add the points to their teams. Killing a player is the only way to get the flag off them!
  • Deathmatch: A simple free-for-all, kill your opponents to score points.
  • Team Deathmatch: As above, but in teams. This would be suited to custom maps with things like castles on opposing sides (as would Capture the Flag, too).

In all three cases, there are two ways we could play:

  • Stone Age: Start completely from scratch, with or without a base depending on the map. Although collecting resources won't score points for your team, it will be required in order to build weapons and construct outposts, barriers and other field items.
  • Gladiator: Have a complete armoury at your disposal. Armour stands complete with suits of iron armour, weapons rooms full of swords, bows and arrows, and tool sheds with all the tools you need. Miners will still be required to build field objects, but in this mode teams can be expected to fight right from the start.

And finally, as well as there being teams (except for Deathmatch), of course scores would be tracked for individual players to find out the MVP and so on.

Would anyone be interested in these game modes? As I said, they'd be short games lasting up to 30 minutes.

I like the sound of those minigames, JJ. I would also think that having UHC in a monthly pattern is much better, otherwise we'll just get bored of it. If we do these gamemodes, I would be willing to make some of the maps, if that is alright with you.

I too have some ideas for maps for these gamemodes that I can work on, seeing as how I probably can't participate in them atm due to internet. Making some of the maps would give a sense of involvement with the games until I can actually play them.

As for the games themselves, it sounds like an awesome idea, and I can't wait to see them in action.

Yes, that'd be great! MaelstromIslander has also sourced some maps himself, but I'm all up for using maps that members have made themselves here - in fact I promote that those who are willing do so, it'd give a much more RRU-y vibe to the matches. Just, you know, don't build a secret tunnel into the opponent's lair filled with TNT and such. ;)

That sounds awesome, DM, I liked your work on the arena on the old server. :)

I guess the size of the maps needs to be kept somewhat small so that players are forced into engagement (remember that in 1.8 small world borders can now be set, if you'd like to make a map then please use one), but also large enough that players can collect resources without fear of being sniped or attacked too often.

MaelstromIslander

You forgot Investigation in the list of gamemodes, JJ. :P

I also thought about it and i'm going to be making Off-Tropic and Castle Bobenstein myself. That floating island map i have no idea what to do for. Ship battle will remain as a sourced map.

Also, new map idea: Sewer Depths. (CTF map)

CtF or Deathmatch on sectional LEGO Island. :af:

These games sound good, but for the stone age one, would the resources be rigged to be found faster? And/or will there be a set time limit? Because the game might take a while otherwise.

I mentioned that as an idea, not as something ready yet. That game mode is in it's concept stage, there are a few things needed to be sorted out though.

Alrighty, let me know how it goes Mael! :)

1) YES. SO MUCH YES. Everyone support or you're banned from the server.*

2) That's a good point. Yeah, it'd probably be a good idea to increase resources, either that or it really would be Stone Age. There would definitely be a time limit, just as most (particularly FPS) multiplayer games have a time limit, so if the worlds were left unmodified then it would promote players to choose between collecting resources and scoring points with minimum tools.

I'm really sorry but I don't actually remember what this was, anyway. If you did want to play it, could you give me an idea of the basic concept?

*No, I'm not serious.

EDIT: I'll be making a separate topic for games discussion, including UHC. I think this thread should remain dedicated to the standard server so as to avoid confusion, and we can use a separate thread to discuss games.

The basic concept is you get a Magnifying Glass (Which is a renamed Tripwire Hook) and do some searching, look for clues, etc, in a large Mansion map.

Like I said, I am experimenting with this concept, and I can tell it will require a HECK of a ton of command blocks :P

Before I read your reply Ben, when I saw it say just investigation, the Mafia game in Minecraft came to mind.

These topics will be on the RRUCraft Forum riiiiiight? ;P

I'll make the topics on both, probably. Many members of UHC don't have accounts on the RRUCraft Forum, and it'd be unfair of me to force that upon them.

Speaking of the forum, I was thinking of changing its provider anyway... The admin interface is nasty.

Say, JJ, would it be at all possible that the minigames could run with mods? Specifically Flan's Mod? I ask because not only does Flan's mod add firearms, but It also adds many blocks and functionallities for CTF / deathmatch / conquest gamemodes. I also finished a map using it, so maybe this could be an idea.

That mod does look very good and definitely suitable, RR Rocks, thanks for suggesting it! The only problem is that it requires Forge, which I think means everyone requires a client version too? Put simply, I'm all up for using it so long as others are too. :)

I think that mods are easy enought to install these days, so that anyone could do it, as long as they are willing to use modded minecraft. I could provide a complete set of installers for the mods, along with instructions on how to install them, if such things are nessesary.
