Mafia: The Game

Roles have been sent out. The game will begin as soon as I have received the selections of non-generic players.

An epidemic. You never thought you would have to deal with this. Yet here you are, on your first day in the lab no less.

You work for a pharmaceutical manufacturer- that's what you were told at least. The diseases, held in glass tubes lining the walls- they're just specimens meant for study. We're developing medicine to protect people from them, of course. No evil ulterior motives at all.

But you're beginning to suspect that's not the case. Something went wrong- or right, depending on your outlook- and some of the diseases escaped. The entire facility is on lockdown, and you find yourself quarantined in a room with 5 other people you don't know, almost all of them new recruits. One of is one of the doctors of the facility, sent to train the newbies- but you don't know which one. And one of them might have other plans besides finding a job...

An accident, they called it. But you know better. Someone did this. You don't just put all of the world's deadliest microorganisms in the same place and not expect someone to come looking to cash in on that. Steal the virus, sell it to the highest bidder- you've seen this plot in many a film before. You know what happens next.

The thief will want to cover their tracks.

Hey everyone, I guess I should introduce myself. The name's Humphrey, Humphrey Jefferson. I never wanted to be in this job in the first place - I always dreamed of becoming another House from that TV series. But alas my parents pushed me in this direction. And now look at what they've got me into! Pah.

*Ahem*

So who's the fellow next to me?

My name is Matthew Parker, and i, unlike you, Humphrey, was enthusiastic to be a part of the lab. But i didn't think i'd get trapped in a box with someone running around with a rampant disease. Worst case scenario we could be stuck in here for the rest of our lives, but i have my doubts. The thief is probably going to kill us before age does.

Oh hold yer whesht, ol' Parker, I, David Smith, can conclude that one of us should survive, at least.

Actually, screw conclusions, I didn't put SI2O radioactive chemicals in the mix, whoever survives should die of...   ...well, radioactivity.

Wait, is Jimbob playing or isn't he?

Hello, y'all, my name is Ernest Hashbaz. You've probably seen me around the place. This is a labor of love for me. I was inspired to join this establishment by my mentor, the late, great J.W. Wells. He was like a father to me, which was fortunate, seeing as my pa met his untimely end at the talons of a flock of Haast's eagles, when I was only four.

That's all for now. Pardon my awkwardness. I am slow of tongue, and well... I'm not necessarily a person-person. If you need me, I'll be tending to my pet Echidna.

He wasn't on the list, so i didn't include him when I sent out roles. Was he supposed to be? Sorry.

Well he can be an... NPC this round I guess.

As the recruits introduce themselves to each other, one remains silent. When he does finally open his mouth to speak, the only thing that comes out is blood. And so Xiron becomes the first victim.

The other recruits are shocked by this turn of events- they thought they'd be safe in here. They were wrong.

As they carefully dispose of Xiron's body so as to keep the disease ffrom spreading, they begin to question just who might be responsible for this outbreak...

I frequently engage in past-life regression, and I'm afraid, Mr. Parker, that suspicion falls squarely on your shoulders.

Last night, I had a vision, of men, us, but not us, in some hostile clime in the days of yore. They were besieged by green-skinned hob-goblins, who sought to plunder willy-nilly their small fort. But these were not their greatest enemy. No, one of their own sought their blood. That same soul has recently shuffled off his mortal coil, as he did so then, when a great eye, fell and eldritch, saw him to an end.

Now, he whom we called Xiron, was a decidedly unsuccessful killer. I find it hard to believe that any of us, save he who perished at Xiron's hand, and thus knew not of his murderers speedy demise, would consider him the greatest threat. I suspect that Mr. Parker has exacted his revenge, post mortem, post vitam.

I barely have no idea what you just said there. Either you're accusing me as the murderer, or Xiron was going to murder someone but he immediately blurbed blood out of his mouth and spontaneously died. If the former is correct, in my defense, I just want to get out of here without being slaughtered by a virus. After seeing the side-effects, I don't think I want to open my eyes again.

However, I think Ben might be the thief. His knowledge of the virus seems suspicious... Very suspicious... Especially how the first time he even said something was him defending himself.

It's like this-Xiron killed you. You weren't really paying attention to what happened afterwards. The mana-memory of Xiron's incompetence being fresh on our souls, this makes you the likeliest candidate for the murderer.

Well, this "vision" is just a dream and could've been anything. But then again, whatever you people do to kill me, I'll bet its better than dying from that virus.

Wow. Did I ever predict correctly to myself that I would die first. Why? It was an easy choice. No one would think to accuse me as the mafia as I was it last round that was just so recent, no point of a useless player around who obviously isn't it, right? ;P

It could also be Maelstrom's revenge from last round. *helps Quis' planted idea to grow*

What are you, a god? Your 4th wall breakage, it huuuuuuuuuurts!

My case is different, I'm a ghost. :P

Ernest Hashbaz, Matthew Parker, the two of you could be the murder, I don't know, I'm not a calculative detective, and of course in this case, only one of you can we kill off. As much as I'd like to accuse him, I'm giving Matthew Parker (Maelstromislander) a chance as someone of nearly the same name was in a case like this ended up being killed first, I don't want to repeat said events again.

Ernest Hashbaz (Quisoves Potoo) mentioned something about wars with goblins and a murder under the name "Xiron", but, personally, there is no belief, nor proof, that goblins exsist, and, judging by his occasional spastic shudder, Mr Hashbaz probably has a mental disorder, although I am not sure what, I mean, do I look like I biologist?

So, with the unessessary sentance about insignificant accusations, I point to Mr Hashbaz.

So you let a probable suspect off the immediate hook because you feel bad for him, and instead try to kill the person who gave a reasoned argument for his guilt? Well, I suppose you've made yourself a less likely suspect, by standing out in such a cockamamie fashion.

Also, I should like to point out that if I were the killer, trying to get Parkerstrom lynched in such a fashion would be foolish. Once he was found innocent, folks would begin to suspect that the killing was designed to frame Mael, and my survival would be considerably harder.

And you're calling me crazy?

I'm in if you need an extra player.

I did sign up, I was asked to as the game was running short on players. That's okay though, I can drop out as I wasn't sent a role and that's been made clear already. :)

No, don't do that. Maybe we should have it by default people are innocent, instead of an NPC.

I vote Ben.

Why, pray tell?

Likely for the reasons i provided. But on the other hand, Smith's actions are very much that of an innocent, so what i said before is invalid.

The reason you provided was an in-story reason. Granted, the killer's roleplaying might be influenced by his role, but that's rather shaky ground.

I suppose that the killer might have been thinking that, but I wouldn't count on it. Being Mafia last round does nothing to prevent you from being Mafia the next. Besides, if every Mafia killed the previous round's Mafia, that would be rather predictable.

What are you, a god? Your 4th wall breakage, it huuuuuuuuuurts!

Being dead, as Parker's prior incarnation was, does tend to prevent one from paying attention.

Incorrect. Because 1. I'm completely over that. Its just water under the bridge now. And 2. I wasn't mad at you, i was actually mad at the game itself.

And 1 was obvious. I know i hold grudges but nothing stupid like that. I mean, immediately after i made that hate post i regretted it, and wasn't angry anymore.

Because it's what mafias do. Vote people named Ben without a sound reason. It's what I did last round!

I can confirm this to be true, it even says so in the rules;

3. Blame Ben, he deserves to be blamed

Well no one specifically finalized their votes but since there doesn't seem to be any conflict, I'll just accept the votes that have been placed as final. We good?
